(Photo courtesy Forest Park Medical Center at Frisco)</p></div> <p>Forest Park Medical Center of Frisco filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in federal court on Tuesday.</p> <p>The medical center, which opened in Frisco Square in July 2012, is part of the Dallas-based Forest Park Medical Center network of physician-owned facilities. It owes more than $14 million to creditors, according to several media reports.</p> <p>According to court documents, the hospital was based on an out-of-network model that relied on higher reimbursement rates for its operations. But that model has not generated enough revenue to sustain operations, documents say. The Victorian-themed Eyellusions Exhibit will now open at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 26. The one-of-a-kind exhibit focuses on the neuroscience behind mind-bending illusions and ambiguous phenomena. Among the installations are: the Zoetrope, an 8-foot wide pre-film animation device where 12 wooden horse sculptures appear to be running; the Alice in Wonderland Ames room, where guests can look big or small depending on their position in the room; time machine, where guests disappear using a pepper’s ghost effect; a vintage-looking theater with a stage, where magicians can perform; and a Victorian version of the infamous black and blue (or white and gold) dress that changes color with the light intensity. It’s worth noting that about 4,000 seats in the south end zone will be unavailable for the next two seasons because of construction, according to the team’s news release. Much of the construction relates to improvements requested for the annual NCAA Division I Championship football game, such as bigger locker rooms, more concession stands, more restrooms, a bigger press room and a team store. Officials also hope to build a space for the National Soccer Hall of Fame to be located on a new second level to be constructed at that south end zone. The Hall of Fame details are still being worked out. No word on when it might become official. (Ron Baselice/The DallasMorning News)</p></div> <p>One of the most painful processes for any school district is redrawing attendance zones for high schools as neighborhoods — and sometimes even siblings – get split up and sent to different schools.</p> <p>Next month Frisco ISD will begin what is sure to be another heated high school rezoning process for the third consecutive year.</p> <p>The booming Collin County school district is on track to open <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150924163313/http://www.dallasnews.com/news/community-news/frisco/headlines/20140928-frisco-isd-is-racing-to-keep-up-with-its-growth.ece">four high schools in four years</a> to keep up with the growth.</p> <p>First it was <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150924163313/http://friscoblog.dallasnews.com/2014/08/five-new-schools-open-in-frisco-today.html/">Independence High in 2014</a> and <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150924163313/http://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/headlines/20150824-careful-planning-pays-off-at-friscos-new-reedy-high-school.ece">then Reedy</a> this year.</p> <p>The attendance zones that will be redrawn this time are for the new <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150924163313/http://friscoblog.dallasnews.com/2015/02/friscos-lebanon-high-gets-new-name-sort-of.html/">Lebanon Trail</a> opening next year adjacent to the school district’s administration building. It will relieve Liberty, Independence and Centennial.</p> <p>Then <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150924163313/http://friscoblog.dallasnews.com/2015/08/frisco-isd-prepares-for-high-school-no-10-outlines-discipline-coordinator-duties.html/">Memorial High</a> will open in 2017.</p> <p>Frisco adds anywhere from 2,500 to 3,500 students and opens on average three new campuses annually.</p> <p>And though many know that the area is just about bursting at the seams, not every family moving into the district knows exactly what that means. So Thursday, the Frisco school district is having a rezoning forum for the public.</p> <p>Officials are expected to go over the district’s growth and commitment to small schools, which is driving the need to rezone so often, and then explain the process of drawing new attendance boundaries.</p> <p>The district will be rezoning for Lebanon trail as well as the new Nelson Middle in the northeast area of the district as well as for Miller and Vaughn elementary schools.</p> <p>The forum begins at 6:30 p.m. at the school district’s administration building, 5515 Ohio Drive.</p> <p>The first drafts of the attendance zones are expected to be presented at the Oct. 19 board meeting. (Courtesy Verona Villa)</p></div> <p>Developers and city leaders broke ground Friday on a 16,000-square-foot, Tuscan-style luxury event and meeting space in Frisco called Verona Villa.</p> <p>The project will be built on three acres at the northwest corner of Stonebrook and Dallas parkways. The site will have landscaped gardens and two rooms inside that are adaptable for dining, receptions, meetings and conferences. The improvements approved Tuesday are meant to accommodate the NCAA Division I Championship football game and increase the variety of events at the complex. Visit www.dallasnews.com for the story.</p> <p><strong>Also approved on Tuesday were two separate agreements</strong> to authorize the issuance of Certificates of Obligation bonds – a little more than $9 million to fund improvements for the Northeast Community Park and $20,740,000 for the planned conference center at the Omni Frisco hotel coming to The Star in Frisco.</p> <p><strong>The fiscal year 2016 budgets for the city,</strong> the Frisco Economic Development Corp. and the Frisco Community Development Corp. were approved Tuesday along with the city’s property tax rate of 46 cents per $100 valuation.</p> <p><strong>The council also OK’d economic incentives for three Walmart Supercenters</strong> planned to be built in the city. They gave the go-ahead for a zoning change to allow a mixed use development on 32.6 acres at Frisco and Main streets. The department’s monthly report states 65 percent of the motor vehicle burglaries in August in the city involved unlocked cars or cars whose entry was unknown.
