These domains have taken on a symbolic register so great that it is now commonplace for questions of gender and sexuality to be rhetorically front and center in seemingly unrelated geopolitical conflicts. While these contestations are not new, they are currently deployed in the political realm with heightened intensity.

Speakers include Sonia Corrêa, activist and researcher; Serena Dankwa, lecturer and postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Social Anthropology at the University of Basel in Switzerland; Alice Miller, professor in the practice, Yale School Public Health; and Rachel Spronk, professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. The conversation will be moderated by Graeme Reid, Jackson School research scholar and UN Independent Expert on Protection Against Violence and Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.

The discussion is sponsored by the Jackson School, with the support of The Edward J. and Dorothy Clarke Kempf Memorial Fund and the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale.

This event is open to the general public.

Contact:

Jackson School of Global Affairs

Open To:

Undergraduate, Faculty, Alumni, Yale Postdoctoral Trainees, General Public, Graduate And Professional, Spouses And Partners, Staff

203-432-6253

Admission:

Free

jackson.school@yale.edu

Cultivating Conversation Event:

Live concert of "Songs from Testimonies" featuring Zisl Slepovitch Ensemble & Sasha Lurje

Event time:

Thursday, January 23, 2025 - Removing the barrier between artist and audience, we seek to bring together an eclectic group of artists of all types. Each short 5-7 minute piece will be introduced with points of interest, personal anecdotes, cultural background, and relevance; following each performance, we will lead a small discussion, reacting to what we heard and felt. Discussion involvement is optional, and we will alternate spoken perspectives with a collection of perspectives written or drawn by audience members. No experience with classical music is necessary! This will be a meaningful experience for both classical music lovers and those who have never attended a classical music event, and is intended to be inclusive, exploratory, and is open to all. The event will be 60 minutes long and will offer refreshments during and after the event.

Contact:

(none)

Open To:

Undergraduate, Alumni, Cultivating Conversations, All Ages, General Public, Graduate And Professional, Spouses And Partners, Staff

Admission:

Free

Cultivating Conversation Event:

Saturday Introductory Tour of Beinecke Library

Event time:

Saturday, November 15, 2025 - 1:30pm to 2:15pm

Location:

Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library (BRBL) See map
121 Wall Street
New Haven, CT 06511

Event description:

An introductory tour of the Beinecke Library, its mission, history, architecture, collections, and services, led by a library staff or student guide.
