<A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And he said unto them, Lo! as you are at the entrance of the city, there will a man meet you, carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house whither he is going. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And say to the master of that family, The teacher saith to thee, Where is the dining-room, in which I can eat the passover with my disciples? <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And he will shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And they going away, found it just as he had told them: and they made ready the passover.<p> <A name="15"></a><p class="hdg">The Last Supper<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#20">Matthew 26:20–30</a>; <a href ="../mark/14.htm#17">Mark 14:17–26</a>; <a href ="../1_corinthians/11.htm#17">1 Corinthians 11:17–34</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And he said unto them, With earnest desire have I longed to eat this passover with you before I suffer: <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>for I tell you, that I will no more ever eat of it, until it shall be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And taking the cup, after having given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide among yourselves: <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>for I say unto you, that I shall no more drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God come. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And taking a loaf, he gave thanks, and brake, and gave it to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: do this in remembrance of me. <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And the cup in like manner, after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But lo! the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me at the table. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And the Son of man indeed goeth, as is decreed: but wo to that man by whom he is betrayed! <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And they began to question among themselves, who it could possibly be of them who should do this thing.<CM><p> <A name="25"></a><p class="hdg">Who Is the Greatest?<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Now it came to pass, that there was also a contention among them, even which of them should be accounted to be the greatest. <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they who exercise authority over them are called benefactors. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But ye shall not act thus: but the superior among you, let him be as the junior; and he that presideth, as he that serveth. <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>For which is the greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that waits? is not he that sitteth at table? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.<p> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Ye are they who have continued with me during my trials. <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And I appoint you, as my Father hath appointed me, a kingdom; <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and be seated on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.<CM><p> <A name="32"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#31">Matthew 26:31–35</a>; <a href ="../mark/14.htm#27">Mark 14:27–31</a>; <a href ="../john/13.htm#36">John 13:36–38</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, lo! Satan hath earnestly sought you, that he might sift you as wheat: <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith may not fail: and when thou art returned, stablish thy brethren. <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Then he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, to prison, and to death! <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before thou shalt thrice deny having known me.<CM><p> <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, or scrip, or sandals, lacked ye any thing? But Peter followed at a distance. <A name="56"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-55.htm"><b>55</b></a></span>And as they had lighted a fire in the middle of the hall, and had seated themselves in a company, Peter sat down in the midst of them. <A name="57"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-56.htm"><b>56</b></a></span>But a certain maid-servant who sat at the fire, eyeing him, and looking at him stedfastly, said, This man was also with him. <A name="58"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-57.htm"><b>57</b></a></span>But he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. <A name="59"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-58.htm"><b>58</b></a></span>And after a little while another seeing him, said, Surely thou art one of them. Then said Peter, Man, I am not. <A name="60"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-59.htm"><b>59</b></a></span>And at about an hour?s distance, another person strongly asserted, saying, Of a certainty this fellow was also with him: for he too is a Galilean. <A name="61"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-60.htm"><b>60</b></a></span>And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And instantly, while he was yet speaking, the cock crew. <A name="62"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-61.htm"><b>61</b></a></span>And the Lord, turning round, looked upon Peter.
