<a href="/luke/2-11.htm">11</a>for today<MG4594> in the city<MG4172> of David<MG1160b> there has been born<MG5088> for you a Savior<MG4990>, who<MG3739> is <a href="#fn">[h]</a>Christ<MG5547> the Lord<MG2962>. <a href="/luke/2-12.htm">12</a>And this<MG3778> will be a sign<MG4592> for you: you will find<MG2147> a baby<MG1025> wrapped<MG4683> in<MG4683> cloths<MG4683> and lying<MG2749> in a <a href="#fn">[i]</a>manger<MG5336>.” <a href="/luke/2-13.htm">13</a>And suddenly<MG1810> there appeared<MG1096> with the angel<MG32a> a multitude<MG4128> of the heavenly<MG3770> <a href="#fn">[j]</a>army<MG4756> of angels praising<MG134> God<MG2316> and saying<MG3004>, <poetry><a href="/luke/2-14.htm">14</a>“Glory<MG1391> to God<MG2316> in the highest<MG5310>, <t>And on earth<MG1093> peace<MG1515> among<MG1722> people<MG444> <a href="#fn">[k]</a>with whom He is pleased<MG2107>.” <a href="/luke/2-15.htm">15</a>When<MG5613> the angels<MG32a> had departed<MG565> from them into heaven<MG3772>, the shepherds<MG4166> began saying<MG2980> to one<MG240> another<MG240>, “Let’s go<MG1330> straight<MG1330> to Bethlehem<MG965>, then<MG1211>, and see<MG3708> this<MG3778> thing<MG4487> that has happened<MG1096>, which<MG3739> the Lord<MG2962> has made<MG1107> known<MG1107> to us.” <a href="/luke/2-16.htm">16</a>And they came<MG2064> in a hurry<MG4692> and found<MG429> their way<MG429> to<MG429> Mary<MG3137> and Joseph<MG2501>, and the baby<MG1025> as He lay<MG2749> in the <a href="#fn">[l]</a>manger<MG5336>. <a href="/luke/2-17.htm">17</a>When they had seen<MG3708> Him, they made<MG1107> known<MG1107> the statement<MG4487> which had been told<MG2980> them about<MG4012> this<MG3778> Child<MG3813>. <a href="/luke/2-18.htm">18</a>And all<MG3956> who heard<MG191> it were<MG2296> amazed<MG2296> about<MG4012> the things which were told<MG2980> them by the shepherds<MG4166>. <a href="/luke/2-19.htm">19</a>But Mary<MG3137> treasured<MG4933> all<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG4487>, pondering<MG4820> them in her heart<MG2588>. <a href="/luke/2-20.htm">20</a>And the shepherds<MG4166> went<MG5290> back<MG5290>, glorifying<MG1392> and praising<MG134> God<MG2316> for all<MG3956> that they had heard<MG191> and seen<MG3708>, just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> had been told<MG2980> them. Jesus Presented at the Temple<a href="/luke/2-21.htm">21</a>And when<MG3753> eight<MG3638> days<MG2250> were completed<MG4092a> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>so that it was time for His circumcision<MG4059>, He was also<MG2532> named<MG2564, 3686> Jesus<MG2424>, the name given<MG2564> by the angel<MG32a> before<MG4253> He was conceived<MG4815> in the womb<MG2836>. <a href="/luke/2-22.htm">22</a>And when<MG3753> the days<MG2250> for <a href="#fn">[n]</a>their purification<MG2512> according<MG2596> to the Law<MG3551> of Moses<MG3475> were completed<MG4092a>, they brought<MG321> Him up<MG321> to Jerusalem<MG2414> to present<MG3936> Him to the Lord<MG2962> <a href="/luke/2-23.htm">23</a>(as it is written<MG1125> in the Law<MG3551> of the Lord<MG2962>: “EVERY<MG3956> FIRSTBORN MALE<MG733b> THAT OPENS<MG1272> THE WOMB<MG3388> SHALL BE CALLED<MG2564> HOLY<MG40> TO THE LORD<MG2962>”), <a href="/luke/2-24.htm">24</a>and to offer<MG1325> a sacrifice<MG2378> according<MG2596> to what has been stated<MG3004> in the Law<MG3551> of the Lord<MG2962>: “A PAIR<MG2201> OF TURTLEDOVES<MG5167> OR<MG2228> TWO<MG1417> YOUNG<MG3556b> DOVES<MG4058>.” <a href="/luke/2-25.htm">25</a>And there was a man<MG444> in Jerusalem<MG2419> whose<MG3739> name<MG3686> was Simeon<MG4826>; and this<MG3778> man<MG444> was righteous<MG1342> and devout<MG2126>, looking<MG4327> forward<MG4327> to<MG4327> the consolation<MG3874> of Israel<MG2474>; and the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> was upon him. <a href="/luke/2-26.htm">26</a>And it had been<MG1510> revealed<MG5537> to him by the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> that he would not see<MG3708> death<MG2288> before<MG4250> he had seen<MG3708> the Lord’s<MG2962> <a href="#fn">[o]</a>Christ<MG5547>. <a href="/luke/2-27.htm">27</a>And he came<MG2064> <a href="#fn">[p]</a>by the Spirit<MG4151> into the temple<MG2413>; and when<MG1722> the parents<MG1118> brought<MG1521> in<MG1521> the child<MG3813> Jesus<MG2424>, <a href="#fn">[q]</a>to carry<MG4160> out<MG4160> for Him the custom<MG1480> of the Law<MG3551>, <a href="/luke/2-28.htm">28</a>then<MG2532> he took<MG1209> Him in his arms<MG43>, and blessed<MG2127> God<MG2316>, and said<MG3004>, <poetry><a href="/luke/2-29.htm">29</a>“Now<MG3568>, Lord<MG1203>, You are letting<MG630> Your bond-servant<MG1401> depart<MG630> in peace<MG1515>, <t>According<MG2596> to Your word<MG4487>; <poetry><a href="/luke/2-30.htm">30</a>For my eyes<MG3788> have seen<MG3708> Your salvation<MG4992>, <poetry><a href="/luke/2-31.htm">31</a>Which<MG3739> You have prepared<MG2090> in the presence<MG4383> of all<MG3956> the peoples<MG2992>: <poetry><a href="/luke/2-32.htm">32</a>A light<MG5457> for revelation<MG602> <a href="#fn">[r]</a>for the Gentiles<MG1484>, <t>And the glory<MG1391> of Your people<MG2992> Israel<MG2474>.” <a href="/luke/2-33.htm">33</a>And His father<MG3962> and mother<MG3384> were<MG2296> amazed<MG2296> at the things which were being said<MG2980> about<MG4012> Him. <a href="/luke/2-34.htm">34</a>And Simeon<MG4826> blessed<MG2127> them and said<MG3004> to His mother<MG3384> Mary<MG3137>, “Behold<MG2400>, this<MG3778> Child is appointed<MG2749> for the fall<MG4431> and <a href="#fn">[s]</a>rise<MG386> of many<MG4183> in Israel<MG2474>, and as a sign<MG4592> to be <a href="#fn">[t]</a>opposed<MG483>— <a href="/luke/2-35.htm">35</a>and a sword<MG4501b> will pierce<MG1330> your own<MG846> soul<MG5590>—to<MG3704> the<MG3704> end<MG3704> that<MG3704> thoughts<MG1261> from many<MG4183> hearts<MG2588> may be revealed<MG601>.” <a href="/luke/2-36.htm">36</a>And there was a prophetess<MG4398>, <a href="#fn">[u]</a>Anna<MG451>, the daughter<MG2364> of Phanuel<MG5323>, of the tribe<MG5443> of Asher<MG768>. She was advanced<MG4260> in <a href="#fn">[v]</a>years<MG2250> and had lived<MG2198> with her husband<MG435> for seven<MG2033> years<MG2250> after<MG575> her <a href="#fn">[w]</a>marriage<MG3932>, <a href="/luke/2-37.htm">37</a>and then as a widow<MG5503> to the age<MG2094> of eighty-four<MG3589, 5064>. She did not leave<MG868> the temple<MG2413> grounds, serving<MG3000> night<MG3571> and day<MG2250> with fasts<MG3521> and prayers<MG1162>. <a href="/luke/2-38.htm">38</a>And at that very<MG846> <a href="#fn">[x]</a>moment<MG5610> she came<MG2186> up<MG2186> and began giving<MG437> thanks<MG437> to God<MG2316>, and continued to speak<MG2980> about<MG4012> Him to all<MG3956> those<MG3588> who were looking<MG4327> forward<MG4327> to<MG4327> the redemption<MG3085> of Jerusalem<MG2419>. Return to Nazareth<a href="/luke/2-39.htm">39</a>And when<MG5613> His parents had completed<MG5055> everything<MG3956> in<MG2596> accordance<MG2596> with<MG2596> the Law<MG3551> of the Lord<MG2962>, they returned<MG1994> to Galilee<MG1056>, to their own<MG1438> city<MG4172> of Nazareth<MG3478>. <a href="/luke/2-40.htm">40</a>Now<MG1161> the Child<MG3813> continued to grow<MG837> and to become<MG2901> strong<MG2901>, <a href="#fn">[y]</a>increasing<MG4137> in wisdom<MG4678>; and the favor<MG5485> of God<MG2316> was upon Him. Visit to Jerusalem<a href="/luke/2-41.htm">41</a>His parents<MG1118> went<MG4198> to Jerusalem<MG2419> every<MG2596> year<MG2094> at the Feast<MG1859> of the Passover<MG3957>. <a href="/luke/2-42.htm">42</a>And when<MG3753> He was<MG1096> twelve<MG1427> years<MG2094> old, they went<MG305> up<MG305> there according<MG2596> to the custom<MG1485> of the feast<MG1859>; <a href="/luke/2-43.htm">43</a>and as they were returning<MG5290>, after spending<MG5048> the<MG5048> full<MG5048> number<MG5048> of days<MG2250> required, the boy<MG3816> Jesus<MG2424> stayed<MG5278> behind<MG5278> in Jerusalem<MG2419>, but His parents<MG1118> were unaware<MG3756, 1097> of it. <a href="/luke/2-44.htm">44</a>Instead<MG1161>, they thought<MG3543> that He was somewhere in the caravan<MG4923>, and they went<MG2064> a day’s<MG2250> journey<MG3598>; and then they began looking<MG327> for Him among<MG1722> their relatives<MG4773a> and acquaintances<MG1110>. <a href="/luke/2-45.htm">45</a>And when they did not find<MG2147> Him, they returned<MG5290> to Jerusalem<MG2419>, looking<MG327> for Him. <a href="/luke/2-46.htm">46</a>Then<MG2532>, after<MG3326> three<MG5140> days<MG2250> they found<MG2147> Him in the temple<MG2413>, sitting<MG2516> in the midst<MG3319> of the teachers<MG1320>, both<MG2532> listening<MG191> to them and asking<MG1905> them questions<MG1905>. <a href="/luke/2-47.htm">47</a>And all<MG3956> who heard<MG191> Him were amazed<MG1839> at His understanding<MG4907> and His answers<MG612>. <a href="/luke/2-48.htm">48</a>When Joseph and Mary saw<MG3708> Him, they were bewildered<MG1605>; and His mother<MG3384> said<MG3004> to Him, “Son<MG5043>, why<MG5101> have You treated<MG4160> us this<MG3779> way<MG3779>?
