sans-serif;">Jian Kang is Professor of Acoustics at the Bartlett Faulty of Built Environemnt, University College London (UCL). He obtained his first degree and master degree from Tsinghua University, and his PhD from the University of Cambridge. He has worked in the field for 35+ years, with 80+ research projects, 800+ publications, 90+ engineering/consultancy projects, and 20+ patents. He is President-Elect of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV), and he also chairs the European Acoustics Association Technical Committee for Noise and the EU COST Action on Soundscape of European Cities and Landscapes. He is a Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, and a Member of Academia Europaea-The Academy of Europe.</span></span></p><p style="white-space: normal; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16px;"><strong>Speech Title:</strong></span> <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Green buildings – A sound perspective</span></span></p><p style="white-space: normal; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16px;"><strong>Abstract: </strong></span>Green buildings preserve precious natural resources and improve our quality of life. Acoustics deals with sound waves in gases, liquids, and solids and its application is present in almost all aspects of modern society, from both a physical and human perspective. It is, therefore, of great significance to consider how research of acoustics and its applications could become an integrated part of green buildings. In this talk, those are explored in terms of urban sound planning, building-envelop designs, environmental impact of acoustic materials and products, use of natural means for noise reduction, acoustic impacts of sustainable measures, and acoustic comfort. Professor Chen is the leader of Wind Power System Research program at the Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University. His present main current research interests are wind energy, power electronics, power system and modern energy systems. In these areas, he has led many international and national research projects and has supervised many PhDs, Postdoctoral researchers and visiting scholars. Dr Chen has more than 800 technical publications. He is a panel member and a review expert for many international funding organizations.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Dr Chen is a member of editor boards of many international journals, including Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, Subject Editor (wind turbine control) of IET Renewable Power Generation, etc. He is a Fellow of IET, a Chartered Engineer in the U.K., a Fellow of IEEE and a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences.</span></p><p style="white-space: normal; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>Speech Title:</strong></span> </span><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Renewable Energy in integrated Energy Systems</span></p><p style="white-space: normal; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>Abstract: </strong></span></span><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Renewable energy applications are in quick development and form a very important part of the Green Transition. It is expected the electricity will be the major format of future energy to supply the demands of the society. At present, the most significant increase of renewable power generation units are wind turbines and solar PV panels, which are from fluctuating energy sources and connected to the grids with power electronic converters. The new types of generation units are replacing the traditional fossil fuel based power generation, which would significantly change the characteristics of power systems and present many challenges.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The speech will brief the development status of renewable power generation technologies, discuss the impacts of power electronic interfaced renewable power plants on power systems, and the possible technical solutions, including the integrated multi-energy systems.</span></p><p style="white-space: normal;
