Para ello, se aplicó una metodología cuantitativa, descriptiva, no experimental, de donde se obtuvo 57 fuentes a través de la revisión literatura en fuentes académicas, principalmente, SCOPUS y fuentes estatales, las cuales permitieron un análisis bajo 6 temáticas resultantes de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible: económico, sanitario, educativo, de género, ambiental y social. En los casos donde no se realiza una correcta planificación estratégica del turismo se pueden generar graves impactos e incluso, poner en riesgo la integridad de los valoresuniversales excepcionales del sitio. El artículo tiene como objetivo establecer los principales retos que se presentan para lograr la gestión de turismo sostenible en el Sitio Patrimonio Mundial Binacional, Reservas de la Cordillera de Talamanca-PILA; sector Costa Rica. La información base del estudio es el resultado del proceso de Evaluación Ambiental Estratégica (EAE) realizado durante el año 2021 en dicho Sitio Patrimonio Mundial (SPM). La metodología de trabajo se basó en el análisis diagnóstico de las8 Áreas Silvestres Protegidas (ASP) que conforman el SPM, estas son Parque Nacional Barbilla, Parque Nacional Chirripó, Reserva Biológica Hitoy Cerere, Parque Internacional La Amistad, Zona protectora Las Tablas, Reserva Forestal RíoMacho, Parque Nacional Tapantí-Macizo de la Muerte. Durante el proceso proceso participativo del EAE se realizaron 55 entrevistas telefónicas, 23 entrevistas presenciales, 20 encuestas en línea, y 7 talleres (5 presenciales y 2 virtuales). En el tema de visitación, se realizóel análisis de datos del año 2011 al 2020. En ese periodo, el SPM aportó el 1,8 % del total de visitantes que ingresaron a las ASP en Costa Rica. Del total de visitantes al SPM un 86 % corresponde a residentes costarricenses. El Parque Nacional Tapantí y el Parque Nacional Chirripó concentran el 90 % de la visitación en el SPM. Los resultados muestran que el principal reto que enfrenta el SMP es la carencia de personal y los escasos recursos para inversión. Se considera que es necesario incorporar 16 personas al equipo de trabajo para lograr sobrepasar la crisis actual, también es necesario realizar los Planes de ordenamiento territorial en las zonas adyacentes al SPM y generar una visión de administración del SPM como unidad integrada con la Zona de Influencia Directa, área que fue definida en el EAE. Metodología: La investigación es de carácter descriptivo-explicativo, asimismo, se desarrolló en cuatro etapas: 1) Revisión Bibliográfica, 2) Se empleó el método observacional, mediante la aplicación de una ficha de observación, que permita recopilar información in situ, 3) Se usó el método analítico, a través de la aplicación de un cuestionario a los directivos de los establecimientos, 4) Procesamiento de información, se utilizó el programa estadístico SPSS 22, para posteriormente analizar los resultados obtenidos.
