This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: “Woe<MH1945> to Nebo<MH5015a>, for it has been destroyed<MH7703>; <t>Kiriathaim<MH7156> has been put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954>, it has been captured<MH3920>; <t>The high<MH4869> stronghold<MH4869> has been put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954> and <a href="#fn">[a]</a>shattered<MH2865>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-2.htm">2</a>“There<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> longer<MH5750> praise<MH8416> for Moab<MH4124>; <t>In Heshbon<MH2809> they have devised<MH2803> disaster<MH7463a> against<MH5921> her: ‘Come<MH1980> and let’s cut<MH3772> her off<MH3772> from being a nation<MH1471>!’ <t>You too<MH1571>, <a href="#fn">[b]</a>Madmen<MH4086>, will be silenced<MH1826a>; <t>The sword<MH2719> will follow<MH310, 1980> you. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-3.htm">3</a>“The sound<MH6963> of an outcry<MH6818> from Horonaim<MH2773>, <t>‘Devastation<MH7701> and great<MH1419> destruction<MH7667>!’ <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-4.htm">4</a>“Moab<MH4124> is broken<MH7665>, <t>Her little<MH6810> ones<MH6810> have sounded<MH8085> out<MH8085> a cry<MH2201> of distress. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-5.htm">5</a>“For they will go<MH5927> up<MH5927> by the ascent<MH4608> of Luhith<MH3872> <t>With continual<MH1065> weeping<MH1065>; <t>For at the descent<MH4174> of Horonaim<MH2773> <t>They have heard<MH8085> the <a href="#fn">[c]</a>anguished<MH6862b> cry<MH6818> of destruction<MH7667>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-6.htm">6</a>“Flee<MH5127>, save<MH4422> yourselves<MH5315>, <t>So that you may be like a juniper<MH6176> in the wilderness<MH4057b>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-7.htm">7</a>“For because<MH3282> of your trust<MH982> in your own achievements<MH4639> and treasures<MH214>, <t>You yourself<MH855b> will also<MH1571> be captured<MH3920>; <t>And Chemosh<MH3645> will go<MH3318> off<MH3318> into exile<MH1473> <t>Together<MH3164a> with his priests<MH3548> and his leaders<MH8269>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-8.htm">8</a>“A destroyer<MH7703> will come<MH935> to every<MH3605> city<MH5892b>, <t>So that no<MH3808> city<MH5892b> will escape<MH4422>; <t>The valley<MH6010> also will be ruined<MH6> <t>And the plateau<MH4334> will be destroyed<MH8045>, <t>As the LORD<MH3068> has said<MH559>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-9.htm">9</a>“Give<MH5414> <a href="#fn">[d]</a>wings<MH6731a> to Moab<MH4124>, <t>For she will <a href="#fn">[e]</a>flee<MH3318> away<MH3318>; <t>And her cities<MH5892b> will become<MH1961> a desolation<MH8047>, <t>Without<MH369> inhabitants<MH3427> in them. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-10.htm">10</a>“Cursed<MH779> is the one who does<MH6213a> the LORD’S<MH3068> work<MH4399> negligently<MH7423b>, <t>And cursed<MH779> is the one who restrains<MH4513> his sword<MH2719> from blood<MH1818>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-11.htm">11</a>“Moab<MH4124> has been<MH7599> at<MH7599> ease<MH7599> since<MH4480> his youth<MH5271>; <t>He has also been<MH8252> peaceful<MH8252>, like wine on <a href="#fn">[f]</a>its dregs<MH8105>, <t>And he has not been poured<MH7385a> from vessel<MH3627> to vessel<MH3627>, <t>Nor<MH3808> has he gone<MH1980> into exile<MH1473>. <t>Therefore<MH5921, 3651> <a href="#fn">[g]</a>he retains<MH5975> his flavor<MH2940>, <t>And his aroma<MH7381b> has not changed<MH4171>. <A><a href="/jeremiah/48-12.htm">12</a>Therefore<MH3651> behold<MH2009>, the days<MH3117> are coming<MH935>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “when I will send<MH7971> to him those who tip<MH6808> vessels, and they will tip<MH6808> him over<MH6808>, and they will pour<MH7385a> out<MH7385a> his vessels<MH3627> and smash<MH5310a> <a href="#fn">[h]</a>his jars<MH5035a>. <a href="/jeremiah/48-13.htm">13</a>And Moab<MH4124> will be<MH954> ashamed<MH954> of Chemosh<MH3645>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> was<MH954> ashamed<MH954> of Bethel<MH1008>, their confidence<MH4009>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-14.htm">14</a>“How<MH349> can you say<MH559>, ‘We are warriors<MH1368>, <t>And men<MH376> competent<MH2428> for battle<MH4421>’? <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-15.htm">15</a>“Moab<MH4124> has been destroyed<MH7703> and <a href="#fn">[i]</a>men have gone<MH5927> up<MH5927> to <a href="#fn">[j]</a>his cities<MH5892b>; <t>His choicest<MH4005> <a href="#fn">[k]</a>young<MH970> men<MH970> have also gone<MH3381> down<MH3381> to the slaughter<MH2874>,” <t>Declares<MH5002> the King<MH4428>, whose name<MH8034> is the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-16.htm">16</a>“The disaster<MH343> of Moab<MH4124> will soon<MH7138> come<MH935>, <t>And his catastrophe<MH7463a> has hurried<MH3966> quickly<MH4116>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-17.htm">17</a>“Mourn<MH5110> for him, all<MH3605> you who live around<MH5439> him, <t>And all<MH3605> of you who know<MH3045> his name<MH8034>; <t>Say<MH559>, ‘How<MH351a> the mighty<MH5797> <a href="#fn">[l]</a>scepter<MH4294> has been broken<MH7665>, <t>A staff<MH4731> of splendor<MH8597>!’ <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-18.htm">18</a>“Come<MH3381> down<MH3381> from your glory<MH3519b> <t>And sit<MH3427> on the parched<MH6772> ground<MH6772>, <t>O daughter<MH1323> living<MH3427> in Dibon<MH1769>, <t>For the destroyer<MH7703> of Moab<MH4124> has come<MH5927> up<MH5927> against you, <t>He has ruined<MH7843> your strongholds<MH4013>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-19.htm">19</a>“Stand<MH5975> by the road<MH1870> and keep<MH6822> watch<MH6822>, <t>You inhabitant<MH3427> of Aroer<MH6177>; <t>Ask<MH7592> him who flees<MH5127> and her who escapes<MH4422> <t>And say<MH559>, ‘What<MH4100> has happened<MH1961>?’ <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/48-20.htm">20</a>“Moab<MH4124> has been put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954>, for it has been<MH2865> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>shattered<MH2865>. <t>Wail<MH3213> and cry<MH2199> out<MH2199>; <t>Declare<MH5046> by the Arnon<MH769> <t>That Moab<MH4124> has been destroyed<MH7703>. <a href="/jeremiah/48-21.htm">21</a>“Judgment<MH4941> has also come<MH935> upon the plain<MH776, 4334>, upon Holon<MH2473>, Jahzah<MH3096>, and against<MH5921> Mephaath<MH4158>, <a href="/jeremiah/48-22.htm">22</a>against<MH5921> Dibon<MH1769>, Nebo<MH5015a>, and Beth-diblathaim<MH1015>, <a href="/jeremiah/48-23.htm">23</a>against<MH5921> Kiriathaim<MH7156>, Beth-gamul<MH1014>, and Beth-meon<MH1010>, <a href="/jeremiah/48-24.htm">24</a>against<MH5921> Kerioth<MH7152>, Bozrah<MH1224a>, and all<MH3605> the cities<MH5892b> of the land<MH776> of Moab<MH4124>, far<MH7350> and near<MH7138>. <a href="/jeremiah/48-25.htm">25</a>The horn<MH7161> of Moab<MH4124> has been cut<MH1438> off<MH1438>, and his arm<MH2220> broken<MH7665>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <a href="/jeremiah/48-26.htm">26</a>“Make<MH7937> him drunk<MH7937>, for he has <a href="#fn">[n]</a>become<MH1431> arrogant<MH1431> toward<MH5921> the LORD<MH3068>; so Moab<MH4124> will <a href="#fn">[o]</a>vomit<MH5606>, and he also<MH1571> will become<MH1961> a laughingstock<MH7814>. <a href="/jeremiah/48-27.htm">27</a>Now was Israel<MH3478> not a laughingstock<MH7814> to you? Or<MH518> was he <a href="#fn">[p]</a>caught<MH4672> among thieves<MH1590>? Therefore<MH5921, 3651> they have lost<MH6> the abundance<MH3502> it produced<MH6213a>. <a href="/jeremiah/48-37.htm">37</a>For every<MH3605> head<MH7218> is shaved bald<MH7144>, and every<MH3605> beard<MH2206> cut<MH1639> short<MH1639>; there are gashes<MH1417> on all<MH3605> the hands<MH3027>, and sackcloth<MH8242> around<MH5921> the waists<MH4975>. <a href="/jeremiah/48-38.htm">38</a>On all<MH3605> the housetops<MH1406> of Moab<MH4124> and in its public<MH7339> squares<MH7339> <a href="#fn">[u]</a>there is mourning<MH4553> everywhere<MH3605>; for I have broken<MH7665> Moab<MH4124> like an undesirable<MH369, 2656> vessel<MH3627>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <a href="/jeremiah/48-39.htm">39</a>“How<MH349> <a href="#fn">[v]</a>shattered<MH2865> it is! How they have wailed<MH3213>! How<MH349> Moab<MH4124> has turned<MH6437> his back<MH6203>—he is<MH954> ashamed<MH954>!
