Dwell in the land that I shall tell you: <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>Dwell in this land, and I shall be with you and I shall bless you, because to you and to your seed I shall give all these kingdoms, and I shall establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father; <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>And I shall multiply your seed as the stars of Heaven, and I shall give to your seed all these lands, and all of the nations of Earth shall be blessed by your seed; <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>For the sake of Abraham, who heard my voice and kept my observances and my commandments and my covenants and my laws.&#8221;<p> <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>And Isaaq settled down in Gadar: <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And the men of the place asked him about his wife and he said, &#8220;She is my sister&#8221;, because he was afraid to say, &#8220;She is my wife&#8221;, lest the men of the place would kill him, because Raphqa was beautiful in her appearance. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And it was that when the days grew long to him there, Abimelek the King of the Philistines looked out from a window and he saw Isaaq dancing with Raphqa his wife. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And Abimelek called to Isaaq and said to him, &#8220;Behold, she is your wife; how were you saying &#8216;she is my sister?&#8217;&#8221; Isaaq said to him, &#8220;Because I said, &#8216;Lest I shall die because of her.&#8217; <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>Abimelek said to him, &#8220;What is this that you have done to us, after a little time, one of the people would have been lying down with your wife and you would have been bringing sin upon us!&#8221; <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And Abimelek commanded all the people and said, &#8220;Whoever molests this man or his wife shall surely be killed.&#8221;<p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And Isaaq sowed in the land and he found in that year a hundredfold of barley and LORD JEHOVAH blessed him. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>And the man became great and he kept on going until he was very great: <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>And he had possessions of sheep and possessions of oxen and great estate, and the Philistines were jealous of him. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>And all the wells the workers of his father had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines polluted and filled them with dirt. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>And Abimelek said to Isaaq, &#8220;Go from our presence because you have become much stronger than we are.&#8221; <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>And Isaaq went on from there and he dwelt in the valley of Gadar and settled down there.<p> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And Isaaq returned and dug the wells of waters that the workers of his father had dug in the days of Abraham his father, and the Philistines polluted them after Abraham was dead, and he called them names according to the names that his father had called them. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>And the workers of Isaac dug in the valley and they found there a well of living waters. <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>And the herdsmen of Gadar contended with the herdsmen of Isaac and they said, &#8220;The waters are ours&#8221;, and he called the name of the well Asqa, because they disputed with him. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>And they dug another well and they contended also over it, and he called its name Satana. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>And he departed from there and they dug another well, and they did not contend over it and he called its name Rekhbuuth, and said, &#8220;Now LORD JEHOVAH has enlarged us and has increased us in the earth.&#8221;<p> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>And he went up from there to Beersheba.<p> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>And LORD JEHOVAH was revealed unto him in that night and he said to him, &#8220;I AM the God of Abraham your father; do not fear, because I am with you and I shall bless you, and I shall increase your seed because of Abraham my Servant.&#8221;<p> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>And he built there an altar and he called on the Name of LORD JEHOVAH, and he pitched his tent there and the workers of Isaac dug a well there.<p> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>And Abimelek came to him from Gadar, and Akhzwath his friend, and Phikal the Leader of his army. <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>And Isaaq said to them, &#8220;Why have you come to me? You have hated me and sent me from your presence.&#8221; <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>And they said to him, &#8220;Observing, we see that LORD JEHOVAH has been with you and we were saying that there should be an oath between us and you, and we will make a covenant with you; <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/26-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>That you will not do evil to us, just as we have not harmed you, and just as we have done right to you, and we sent you in peace.
