Yeah right. I don't really think it has anything to do with getting out of playing at the Marriott Center. Just a ploy to try and make the game attract more fans in a more centralized city to make more money. The only recent team I heard that fears other stadiums is BYU...afraid to go to Utah State...afraid of a 1 and 1...and that's probably why they agreed to play ESA next year. Great teams will play anyone, anywhere. </div> </div> <div class="comment"> <div class="commentName"> <b>DRM</b> | 1:13 a.m. Dec. 7, 2007 </div> <div class="commentText"> What's up with giving the students the worst seats in the house? Come on, if the tickets are included with the student pass, shouldn't they at least get seats comprable to those they'd have playing in the Marriot Center. Teams all over the country have been doing this kind of thing for years. It provides an opportunity for fans who cannot or will not travel to see a big game. Whatever the outcome of this game, this is a fastastic scheduling move by the schools involved. </div> </div> <div class="continue"> Comments continue below </div> <div id="ad_300" class="ad"> <div id="ad6Sp"></div> </div> <div class="comment"> <div class="commentName"> <b>t_stuke</b> | 5:10 a.m. Dec. 7, 2007 </div> <div class="commentText"> Like "this isn't a neutral court" said, BYU is too afraid to play USU in Logan. Right. That's why BYU has been able to schedule OK State, Mich State, and Stanford in Provo, right? The fact is that some home court advantages in college basketball are extremely daunting, even for the big-name programs. Utah State is one of them, frankly, which is why BYU has taken the same stance others take toward them. Whine about the bowl game, whine about the opponent, the TV network, the refs, the price of seats for the bowl game, and now the seats at the ESA for the upcoming basketball game. I think it's great to be a cougar fan!! Apparently wins are more important to BYU than traditions, since this is like the 3rd time since they traditionally started playing each other every year that they won't be playing. I also think it's terrible that we have to play at ESA next year, then in Logan the year after. Besides, it's just one game, and it's a preseason game. Most coaches I figure are probably more concerned with conference games, since that determines seeding and a better chance to get into the NCAA tourney. </div> </div> <div class="comment"> <div class="commentName"> <b>To Cougars1</b> | 7:44 a.m. Dec. 7, 2007 </div> <div class="commentText"> Why do you whine about the fans? The only thing you don't mention is that there are fans on all sides that are the same way. This season in football is a perfect example. BYU loses to UCLA and complain about being homered with bad calls and such. The more vocal Ute fans berated the BYU fans who complained, and over generalized BYU fans in saying that all BYU fans are like that. Fast forward to November, Utah fresh off it's loss to BYU does what? They complain about being homered by pro-BYU refs. The more vocal BYU fans berate the Ute fans and overgeneralize all Ute fans as being like that. It goes both ways. There are annoying fans on both sides of the football/basketball. What else can you expect from BYU? As a state school, USU does not have the resources to compete with BYU. The fact that they are competitive at all, particularly considering their success over the past decade, should be impressive. BYU's rival (singular) is the U of U, but BYU v USU is tradition (a Bronco buzz word). BYU should not be high and mighty regarding the Aggies. USU was hosed by BYU in scheduling this year. A neutral site game will eventually be good, but BYU wanted to replace a game to be played in Logan this year with a neutral site game. It had nothing to do with anyone being scared to play anywhere, it had EVERYTHING to do with money, and USU stood to lose more. BYU would have handled USU this year, hopefully the Aggies can turn things around and finish this year strong so the game at ESA next year will be good. USU is overachieving considering what it has to work with (basketball is competitive and football really should be FCS-formerly I-AA). The fact is that MOST sports fans around the nation view USU and BYU as being on the same level. That must be really disheartening to BYU fans and what is leading to the animosity and resentment. BYU fans would do well to check themselves before they act haughty...you may be labeled as hypocrites. I hear the same sort of complaints originating from Provo that I do from Logan, but I don't see USU looking down on other teams. They are scheduling UVSC..I mean UVU..regularly.
