And these were the days of the Unleavened (the paschal feast during the Passover week)- <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-4.htm#literal"><b>4</b></a></span>And having arrested, he put in prison, and handed him over to four sets of four soldiers to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-5.htm#literal"><b>5</b></a></span>Therefore Peter was kept (guarded) in the prison; however prayer was strenuously being made by the church to God concerning him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-6.htm#literal"><b>6</b></a></span>And when Herod was about to bring him forth, that night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers having been bound with two chains, and the guards before the door were watching (keeping, guarding) the prison. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-7.htm#literal"><b>7</b></a></span>And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by and a light shone in the cell. And having struck the side of Peter, he woke him up, saying, Rise up in haste (speed, quickness). And the chains fell off of his hands. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-8.htm#literal"><b>8</b></a></span>And the angel said to him, Gird yourself about (Pull your belt tight) and put on your sandals. And so he did. And he says to him, Wrap around you your cloak and follow me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-9.htm#literal"><b>9</b></a></span>And going out, he followed and did not know that what was happening through the angel was real (true); however he supposed he saw a vision. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-10.htm#literal"><b>10</b></a></span>And having passed through the first and second guard, they came upon the iron gate leading into the city, which opened of itself to them; and having gone out they went on through one street and the angel instantly departed from him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-11.htm#literal"><b>11</b></a></span>And Peter having come about to (in) himself, said, Now I truly know that the Lord has sent forth His angel and removed me from out of the hand of Herod and all the expectation of the people of the Jews. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-12.htm#literal"><b>12</b></a></span>And having considered it, he came upon the house of Mary the mother of John, who is also called Mark, where many were gathered together and praying. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-13.htm#literal"><b>13</b></a></span>And having knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer it (hypakousai-hearken, listen, complied to what was heard). <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-14.htm#literal"><b>14</b></a></span>And having recognized the voice of Peter, she did not open the gate from joy, however she ran it and reported that Peter was standing before the gate. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-15.htm#literal"><b>15</b></a></span>And they said to her, You are raving mad (latin-insanis-crazy like insane). However she kept emphatically insisting it to be so and they kept saying, It is his angel. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-16.htm#literal"><b>16</b></a></span>However Peter continued knocking; and having opened it they saw him and were astonished. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-17.htm#literal"><b>17</b></a></span>And having waved (made a sign, shaken the hand up and down) to them with the hand to be silent, he thoroughly related to them how the Lord had brought him from out of the prison. And he said, Report to James and to the brothers these things. And having gone out, he went unto another (different) place.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-18.htm#literal"><b>18</b></a></span>Now having come day, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers of what had become of Peter. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/12-19.htm#literal"><b>19</b></a></span>And Herod sought after him and did not find him, then having examined the guards, he commanded them to be led away [to death].
