For all<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712> are holy<MH6918>, every<MH3605> one<MH3605> of them, and the LORD<MH3068> is in their midst<MH8432>; so why<MH4069> do you exalt<MH5375> yourselves above<MH5921> the assembly<MH6951> of the LORD<MH3068>?” <a href="/numbers/16-4.htm">4</a>When Moses<MH4872> heard<MH8085> this, he fell<MH5307> on his face<MH6440>; <a href="/numbers/16-5.htm">5</a>and he spoke<MH1696> to Korah<MH7141> and all<MH3605> his group<MH5712>, saying<MH559>, “Tomorrow<MH1242> morning<MH1242> the LORD<MH3068> will make known<MH3045> who<MH834> is His, and who is holy<MH6918>, and will bring<MH7126> that one near<MH7126> to Himself; indeed, the one whom<MH834> He will choose<MH977>, He will bring<MH7126> near<MH7126> to Himself. <a href="/numbers/16-6.htm">6</a>Do<MH6213a> this<MH2088>: take<MH3947> censers<MH4289> for yourselves, Korah<MH7141> and <a href="#fn">[d]</a>your whole<MH3605> group<MH5712>, <a href="/numbers/16-7.htm">7</a>and put<MH5414> fire<MH784> in them, and place<MH7760> incense<MH7004> upon them in the presence<MH6440> of the LORD<MH3068> tomorrow<MH4279>; and the man<MH376> whom<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> chooses<MH977> shall be the one<MH6918> who<MH1931> is holy<MH6918>. <a href="#fn">[e]</a>You have gone far<MH7227a> enough<MH7227a>, you sons<MH1121> of Levi<MH3878>!” <a href="/numbers/16-8.htm">8</a>Then Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to Korah<MH7141>, “Hear<MH8085> now<MH4994>, you sons<MH1121> of Levi<MH3878>: <a href="/numbers/16-9.htm">9</a>Is it too<MH4480> small<MH4592> an honor for you that the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> has singled<MH914> you out<MH914> from the congregation<MH5712> of Israel<MH3478>, to bring<MH7126> you near<MH7126> to Himself, to perform<MH5647> the service<MH5656> of the tabernacle<MH4908> of the LORD<MH3068>, and to stand<MH5975> before<MH6440> the congregation<MH5712> to minister<MH8334> to them; <a href="/numbers/16-10.htm">10</a>and that He has brought<MH7126> you near<MH7126>, Korah, and all<MH3605> your brothers<MH251>, sons<MH1121> of Levi<MH3878>, with you? But are you seeking<MH1245> the priesthood<MH3550> as<MH1571> well<MH1571>? <a href="/numbers/16-11.htm">11</a>Therefore<MH3651> you and your whole<MH3605> group<MH5712> are the ones gathered<MH3259> together against<MH5921> the LORD<MH3068>; but as for Aaron<MH175>, <a href="#fn">[f]</a>who<MH4100> is he, that you grumble<MH3885b> against<MH5921> him?” <a href="/numbers/16-12.htm">12</a>Then Moses<MH4872> sent<MH7971> <a href="#fn">[g]</a>a summons<MH7121> to Dathan<MH1885> and Abiram<MH48>, the sons<MH1121> of Eliab<MH446>; but they said<MH559>, “We will not come<MH5927> up<MH5927>. <a href="/numbers/16-13.htm">13</a>Is it <a href="#fn">[h]</a>not enough<MH4592> that you have brought<MH5927> us up<MH5927> out of a land<MH776> flowing<MH2100> with milk<MH2461> and honey<MH1706> to have us die<MH4191> in the wilderness<MH4057b>, but you would also<MH1571> appoint<MH8323> yourself as<MH8323> master<MH8323> over<MH5921> us? <a href="/numbers/16-14.htm">14</a>Indeed<MH637>, you have not brought<MH935> us into a land<MH776> flowing<MH2100> with milk<MH2461> and honey<MH1706>, nor<MH3808> have you given<MH5414> us an inheritance<MH5159> of fields<MH7704> and vineyards<MH3754>. Would you gouge<MH5365> out<MH5365> the eyes<MH5869> of <a href="#fn">[i]</a>these<MH1992a> men<MH376>? We will not come<MH5927> up<MH5927>!” <a href="/numbers/16-15.htm">15</a>Then Moses<MH4872> became<MH2734> very<MH3966> angry<MH2734> and said<MH559> to the LORD<MH3068>, “Pay<MH6437> no<MH408> attention<MH6437> to their offering<MH4503>! I have not taken<MH5375> a single<MH259> donkey<MH2543> from them, nor<MH3808> have I done<MH7489a> harm<MH7489a> to any<MH259> of them.” <a href="/numbers/16-16.htm">16</a>Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to Korah<MH7141>, “You and all<MH3605> your group<MH5712> be present<MH1961> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> tomorrow<MH4279>, you and they along with Aaron<MH175>. <a href="/numbers/16-17.htm">17</a>And each<MH376> of you take<MH3947> his censer<MH4289> and put<MH5414> incense<MH7004> on <a href="#fn">[j]</a>it, and each<MH376> of you bring<MH7126> his censer<MH4289> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>, 250<MH3967, 2572> censers<MH4289>; also you and Aaron<MH175> shall each<MH376> bring his censer<MH4289>.” <a href="/numbers/16-18.htm">18</a>So they took<MH3947>, each<MH376> one<MH376> his own censer<MH4289>, and put<MH5414> fire<MH784> on <a href="#fn">[k]</a>it, and placed<MH7760> incense<MH7004> on <a href="#fn">[l]</a>it; and they stood<MH5975> at the entrance<MH6607> of the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>, with Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>. <a href="/numbers/16-19.htm">19</a>So Korah<MH7141> assembled<MH6950> all<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712> against<MH5921> them at the entrance<MH6607> of the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>. And the glory<MH3519b> of the LORD<MH3068> appeared<MH7200> to all<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712>. <a href="/numbers/16-20.htm">20</a>Then the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>, saying<MH559>, <a href="/numbers/16-21.htm">21</a>“Separate<MH914> yourselves from among<MH8432> this<MH2088> congregation<MH5712>, so that I may consume<MH3615> them instantly<MH7281>.” <a href="/numbers/16-22.htm">22</a>But they fell<MH5307> on their faces<MH6440> and said<MH559>, “God<MH410>, the God<MH430> of the spirits<MH7307> of <a href="#fn">[m]</a>humanity<MH3605, 1320>, when one<MH259> person<MH376> sins<MH2398>, will You be<MH7107> angry<MH7107> with the entire<MH3605> congregation<MH5712>?” <a href="/numbers/16-23.htm">23</a>Then the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872>, saying<MH559>, <a href="/numbers/16-24.htm">24</a>“Speak<MH1696> to the congregation<MH5712>, saying<MH559>, ‘Get<MH5927> away<MH5927> from the areas around<MH5439> the <a href="#fn">[n]</a>tents<MH4908> of Korah<MH7141>, Dathan<MH1885>, and Abiram<MH48>.’” <a href="/numbers/16-25.htm">25</a>Then Moses<MH4872> arose<MH6965> and went<MH1980> to Dathan<MH1885> and Abiram<MH48>, with the elders<MH2205> of Israel<MH3478> following<MH1980, 310> him, <a href="/numbers/16-26.htm">26</a>and he spoke<MH1696> to the congregation<MH5712>, saying<MH559>, “Get<MH5493> away<MH5493> now<MH4994> from the tents<MH168> of these<MH428> wicked<MH7563> men<MH376>, and do not touch<MH5060> anything<MH3605> that belongs to them, or<MH6435> you will be swept<MH5595> away<MH5595> in all<MH3605> their sin<MH2403b>!” <a href="/numbers/16-27.htm">27</a>So they moved<MH5927> away<MH5927> from the areas around<MH5439> the <a href="#fn">[o]</a>tents<MH4908> of Korah<MH7141>, Dathan<MH1885>, and Abiram<MH48>; and Dathan<MH1885> and Abiram<MH48> came<MH3318> out<MH3318> and stood<MH5324> at the entrances<MH6607> of their tents<MH168>, along with their wives<MH802>, their sons<MH1121>, and their little<MH2945> ones<MH2945>. <a href="/numbers/16-28.htm">28</a>Then Moses<MH4872> said<MH559>, “By this<MH2088> you shall know<MH3045> that the LORD<MH3068> has sent<MH7971> me to do<MH6213a> all<MH3605> these<MH428> deeds<MH4639>; for it is not <a href="#fn">[p]</a>my doing<MH4480, 3820>. <a href="/numbers/16-29.htm">29</a>If<MH518> these<MH428> men<MH428> die<MH4191> <a href="#fn">[q]</a>the death<MH4194> of all<MH3605> mankind<MH120>, or <a href="#fn">[r]</a>if they suffer<MH6485> the fate<MH6486> of all<MH3605> mankind<MH120>, then the LORD<MH3068> has not sent<MH7971> me. <a href="/numbers/16-30.htm">30</a>But if<MH518> the LORD<MH3068> <a href="#fn">[s]</a>brings<MH1254a> about<MH1254a> an entirely<MH1278> new<MH1278> thing<MH1278> and the ground<MH127> opens<MH6475> its mouth<MH6310> and swallows<MH1104> them with everything<MH3605> that is theirs<MH1992a>, and they descend<MH3381> alive<MH2416a> into <a href="#fn">[t]</a>Sheol<MH7585>, then you will know<MH3045> that these<MH428> men<MH376> have been<MH5006> disrespectful<MH5006> to the LORD<MH3068>.” <a href="/numbers/16-31.htm">31</a>And as he finished<MH3615> speaking<MH1696> all<MH3605> these<MH428> words<MH1697>, the ground<MH127> that was under<MH8478> them split<MH1234> open<MH1234>; <a href="/numbers/16-32.htm">32</a>and the earth<MH776> opened<MH6605a> its mouth<MH6310> and swallowed<MH1104> them, their households<MH1004>, and all<MH3605> the people<MH120> who<MH834> belonged to Korah<MH7141> with all<MH3605> their possessions<MH7399>. <a href="/numbers/16-33.htm">33</a>So they and all<MH3605> that belonged to them went<MH3381> down<MH3381> alive<MH2416a> to <a href="#fn">[u]</a>Sheol<MH7585>; and the earth<MH776> closed<MH3680> over<MH5921> them, and they perished<MH6> from the midst<MH8432> of the assembly<MH6951>. <a href="/numbers/16-34.htm">34</a>Then all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> who<MH834> were around<MH5439> them fled<MH5127> at their <a href="#fn">[v]</a>outcry<MH6963>, for they said<MH559>, “The earth<MH776> might swallow<MH1104> us!” <a href="/numbers/16-35.htm">35</a>Fire<MH784> also came<MH3318> out<MH3318> from the LORD<MH3068> and consumed<MH398> the 250<MH3967, 2572> men<MH376> who were offering<MH7126> the incense<MH7004>. <a href="/numbers/16-36.htm">36</a><a href="#fn">[w]</a>Then the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872>, saying<MH559>, <a href="/numbers/16-37.htm">37</a>“Tell<MH559> Eleazar<MH499>, the son<MH1121> of Aaron<MH175> the priest<MH3548>, that he shall pick<MH7311> up<MH7311> the censers<MH4289> from the midst<MH996> of the burned<MH8316> area<MH8316>, because<MH3588> they are<MH6942> holy<MH6942>; and you are to scatter<MH2219> the <a href="#fn">[x]</a>burning<MH784> coals<MH784> further<MH1973> away<MH1973>. <a href="/numbers/16-38.htm">38</a>As for the censers<MH4289> of these<MH428> <a href="#fn">[y]</a>men<MH2400> who<MH2400> have sinned<MH2400> at the cost of their own lives<MH5315>, have them made<MH6213a> into hammered<MH7555> sheets<MH6341b> as plating<MH6826> for the altar<MH4196>, since<MH3588> they did present<MH7126> them before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> and they are<MH6942> holy<MH6942>; and they shall <a href="#fn">[z]</a>serve<MH1961> as a sign<MH226> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>.” <a href="/numbers/16-39.htm">39</a>So the priest<MH3548> Eleazar<MH499> took<MH3947> the bronze<MH5178> censers<MH4289> which<MH834> the men who were burned<MH8313> had offered<MH7126>, and they hammered<MH7554> them out<MH7554> as plating<MH6826> for the altar<MH4196>, <a href="/numbers/16-40.htm">40</a>as a reminder<MH2146> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> so<MH4616> that<MH4616> no<MH3808> <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>layman<MH376, 2114a>, anyone who<MH834> was not of the <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>descendants<MH2233> of Aaron<MH175>, would approach<MH7126> to burn<MH6999> incense<MH7004> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>; then he would not become<MH1961> like Korah<MH7141> and his group<MH5712>—just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had spoken<MH1696> to him <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>through<MH3027> Moses<MH4872>. Murmuring and Plague<a href="/numbers/16-41.htm">41</a>But on the next<MH4283> day<MH4283> all<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> grumbled<MH3885b> against<MH5921> Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>, saying<MH559>, “You are the ones who have caused<MH4191> the death<MH4191> of the LORD’S<MH3068> people<MH5971a>!” <a href="/numbers/16-42.htm">42</a>It came<MH1961> about<MH1961>, however, when the congregation<MH5712> had assembled<MH6950> against<MH5921> Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>, that they turned<MH6437> toward<MH413> the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>, and behold<MH2009>, the cloud<MH6051> covered<MH3680> it and the glory<MH3519b> of the LORD<MH3068> appeared<MH7200>. <a href="/numbers/16-43.htm">43</a>Then Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> came<MH935> to the front<MH6440> of the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>, <a href="/numbers/16-44.htm">44</a>and the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872>, saying<MH559>, <a href="/numbers/16-45.htm">45</a>“Get<MH7426a> away<MH7426a> from among<MH8432> this<MH2088> congregation<MH5712> so that I may consume<MH3615> them instantly<MH7281>.” Then they fell<MH5307> on their faces<MH6440>. <a href="/numbers/16-46.htm">46</a>And Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to Aaron<MH175>, “Take<MH3947> your censer<MH4289> and put<MH5414> fire<MH784> in it from the altar<MH4196>, and place<MH7760> incense<MH7004> on it; then bring<MH1980> it quickly<MH4120> to the congregation<MH5712> and make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for them, for wrath<MH7110a> has gone<MH3318> out<MH3318> from the LORD<MH3068>, the plague<MH5063> has begun<MH2490c>!” <a href="/numbers/16-47.htm">47</a>Then Aaron<MH175> took<MH3947> it just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> Moses<MH4872> had spoken<MH1696>, and he ran<MH7323> into the midst<MH8432> of the assembly<MH6951>; and behold<MH2009>, the plague<MH5063> had begun<MH2490c> among the people<MH5971a>.
