In the different medical images analysis, it is difficult to choose an optimal bins size number for calculating the probability distributions in MI. As the result, this paper presents a new adaptive bins number selection approach that named a hybrid EMPCA-Scott approach. This work combines an expectation maximization principal component analysis (EMPCA) and the modified Scott’s rule. The proposed approach solves the binning problem from the various intensity values in medical images. Experimental results of this work show the lower registration errors compared to other adaptive binning approaches. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mutual%20information" title="mutual information">mutual information</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EMPCA" title=" EMPCA"> EMPCA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Scott" title=" Scott"> Scott</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=probability%20distributions" title=" probability distributions"> probability distributions</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57641/hybrid-empca-scott-approach-for-estimating-probability-distributions-of-mutual-information" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57641.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">249</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">190</span> The Process of Sanctification: A Bourdieusian Approach to the Declension of Power in New England Puritan Clergy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=W.%20Scott%20Jackson">W. Historian Perry Miller argued that an overall declension in Puritan culture occurred during this period. However, that notion has been dispelled. There is a resurging field exploring declension in areas outside of Miller’s scope of Puritan culture. I determine that colonial New England existed as a functional theocracy by using Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of symbolic capital to explain clerical power through symbolic and religious misdirection and conversion. I explore civil and economic power struggles in colonial New England during the decades following the Great Migration to establish that Puritan culture did not largely decline. Instead, it was the Puritan clergy’s power that waned during this period. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bourdieu" title="Bourdieu">Bourdieu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Historical%20Sociology" title=" Historical Sociology"> Historical Sociology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Symbolic%20Capital" title=" Symbolic Capital"> Symbolic Capital</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Puritan" title=" Puritan"> Puritan</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120623/the-process-of-sanctification-a-bourdieusian-approach-to-the-declension-of-power-in-new-england-puritan-clergy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120623.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">140</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">189</span> Mirrors and Lenses: Multiple Views on Recognition in Holocaust Literature</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kirsten%20A.%20Bartels">Kirsten A. The paper explores three facets of the parallels of recognition found specifically between Livia Bitton-Jackson’s memoir of her experience during the Holocaust as an inmate in Auschwitz, I Have Lived a Thousand Years (1999) and Morris Glietzman series of Holocaust fiction. While Bitton-Jackson reflects on her past and Glietzman designs a fictive character, both are judicious with what they are willing to impart, only providing information about their appearance or themselves when it impacts others or when it serves a necessary purpose to the story. Another similarity lies in another critical aspect of many works of Holocaust literature – the idea of being ‘representatively Jewish’. The authors come to this idea from different angles, perhaps best explained as the difference between showing and telling, for Bitton-Jackson provides personal details, and Gleitzman constructed Felix arguably with this idea in mind. Interwoven through their journeys is a shift in perspectives on being recognized -- from wanting to be seen as individuals to being seen as Jew. With this, being Jewish takes on different meaning, both youths struggle with being labeled as something they do not truly understand, and may have not truly identified with, from a label, to a death warrant. With survivor literature viewed as the most credible and worthwhile type of Holocaust literature and Holocaust fiction is often seen as the least (with children’s and young-adult being the lowest form) the similarities in approaches to telling the stories may go overlooked or be undervalued. This paper serves as an exploration in the some of parallel messages shared between the two. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=holocaust%20fiction" title="holocaust fiction">holocaust fiction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Holocaust%20literature" title=" Holocaust literature"> Holocaust literature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=representatively%20Jewish" title=" representatively Jewish"> representatively Jewish</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=survivor%20literature" title=" survivor literature"> survivor literature</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81304/mirrors-and-lenses-multiple-views-on-recognition-in-holocaust-literature" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81304.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">168</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">188</span> Uruguayan vs. British Press Coverage of a Political Kidnapping</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luisa%20Peirano">Luisa Peirano</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> What began as a middle-class insurgent political movement whose slogan was 'Words divide us. Action unites us!' ultimately mutated into an underground terrorist group that staged a series of armed robberies, kidnappings and even executions in the 1960s and early 1970s. One of the most memorable was the kidnapping of the British ambassador, Sir Geoffrey Jackson, in January 1971, who was held captive for eight months. The episode, which triggered a massive government response and resulted in the capture of the Tupamaros leaders, continued to have political repercussions decades later when Tupamaros leaders emerged from prison to re-enter mainstream Uruguayan politics. The kidnapping and its aftermath attracted intense media coverage in Uruguay and Britain, coverage that affected public opinion profoundly. The treatment by the Uruguayan and British medias’ diverged, however. Uruguayan newspapers focused on political issues, mirrored the positions of various political parties, and showed the larger context of social, cultural and political forces that rocked Latin America in the 1960s and early 1970s. By contrast, the British press limited its attention mainly to the human drama. On the 30th anniversary of Sir Geoffrey Jackson's death, this study compares over one hundred major newspaper articles and suggests some reasons for the differences between Uruguayan and British media treatment in terms of the volume, content, and perspective as well in the effect on readers. The differences have persisted and continue to matter in present day coverage of terrorism and its victims. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=British%20Ambassador" title="British Ambassador">British Ambassador</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Churchill%20Archives%20Centre" title=" Churchill Archives Centre"> Churchill Archives Centre</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sir%20Geoffrey%20Jackson" title=" Sir Geoffrey Jackson"> Sir Geoffrey Jackson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=political%20kidnapping" title=" political kidnapping"> political kidnapping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Latin%20America%20in%20the%201960%27s" title=" Latin America in the 1960&#039;s"> Latin America in the 1960&#039;s</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tupamaro%20guerrillas" title=" Tupamaro guerrillas"> Tupamaro guerrillas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Uruguay" title=" Uruguay"> Uruguay</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88026/uruguayan-vs-british-press-coverage-of-a-political-kidnapping" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88026.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">202</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">187</span> Pressure-Robust Approximation for the Rotational Fluid Flow Problems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Medine%20Demir">Medine Demir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Volker%20John"> Volker John</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fluid equations in a rotating frame of reference have a broad class of important applications in meteorology and oceanography, especially in the large-scale flows considered in ocean and atmosphere, as well as many physical and industrial applications. The Coriolis and the centripetal forces, resulting from the rotation of the earth, play a crucial role in such systems. For such applications it may be required to solve the system in complex three-dimensional geometries. In recent years, the Navier--Stokes equations in a rotating frame have been investigated in a number of papers using the classical inf-sup stable mixed methods, like Taylor-Hood pairs, to contribute to the analysis and the accurate and efficient numerical simulation. Numerical analysis reveals that these classical methods introduce a pressure-dependent contribution in the velocity error bounds that is proportional to some inverse power of the viscosity. Hence, these methods are optimally convergent but small velocity errors might not be achieved for complicated pressures and small viscosity coefficients. Several approaches have been proposed for improving the pressure-robustness of pairs of finite element spaces. In this contribution, a pressure-robust space discretization of the incompressible Navier--Stokes equations in a rotating frame of reference is considered. The discretization employs divergence-free, $H^1$-conforming mixed finite element methods like Scott--Vogelius pairs. However, this approach might come with a modification of the meshes, like the use of barycentric-refined grids in case of Scott--Vogelius pairs. However, this strategy requires the finite element code to have control on the mesh generator which is not realistic in many engineering applications and might also be in conflict with the solver for the linear system. An error estimate for the velocity is derived that tracks the dependency of the error bound on the coefficients of the problem, in particular on the angular velocity. Numerical examples illustrate the theoretical results. The idea of pressure-robust method could be cast on different types of flow problems which would be considered as future studies. As another future research direction, to avoid a modification of the mesh, one may use a very simple parameter-dependent modification of the Scott-Vogelius element, the pressure-wired Stokes element, such that the inf-sup constant is independent of nearly-singular vertices. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=navier-stokes%20equations%20in%20a%20rotating%20frame%20of%20refence" title="navier-stokes equations in a rotating frame of refence">navier-stokes equations in a rotating frame of refence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coriolis%20force" title=" coriolis force"> coriolis force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pressure-robust%20error%20estimate" title=" pressure-robust error estimate"> pressure-robust error estimate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scott-vogelius%20pairs%20of%20finite%20element%20spaces" title=" scott-vogelius pairs of finite element spaces"> scott-vogelius pairs of finite element spaces</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/182176/pressure-robust-approximation-for-the-rotational-fluid-flow-problems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/182176.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">65</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">186</span> Regained Oral Tradition and Identity Construction in House Made of Dawn</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yi%20Hu">Yi Hu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> House Made of Dawn is famous novelist N. Scott Momaday’s Pulitzer-winning novel in 1968. The novel tells a story of the struggling life of an Indian named Abel, following the pattern of leaving home, coming home, leaving again, and returning home at the closure of the story. It touches upon the theme of the relationship between Indianness, identity, and tradition. Abel’s confusion over his identity and his constant struggle and exploration of his identity are pivoted on the tradition of oral literature in the form of story-telling. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the important role of oral tradition in constructing Abel’s Indian cultural identity. The significance of the research lies in two aspects: first of all, the research aims to provide an enlightening perspective for Momaday’s House Made of Dawn in order to gain a better understanding of the novel. Secondly, by emphasizing the importance of traditional culture in identity construction, the research hopes to provide some referential value for people who suffer from identity predicament in modern society. Finally, the paper draws a conclusion that alienation from traditional tribal culture will result in a serious physical and psychological crisis for Indian people. Indian people should adhere to their traditional culture in order to construct their unique cultural identity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=House%20Made%20of%20Dawn" title="House Made of Dawn">House Made of Dawn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=identity" title=" identity"> identity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=N.Scott.Momaday" title=" N.Scott.Momaday"> N.Scott.Momaday</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oral%20tradition" title=" oral tradition"> oral tradition</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141648/regained-oral-tradition-and-identity-construction-in-house-made-of-dawn" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141648.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">225</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">185</span> The Domino Principle of Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization: The Gays Are Next!</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alan%20Berman">Alan Berman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mark%20Brady"> Mark Brady</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The phenomenon of homophobia and transphobia in the United States detrimentally impacts the health, wellbeing, and dignity of school students who identify with the LGBTQ+ community. These negative impacts also compromise the participation of LGBTQ+ individuals in the wider life of educational domains and endanger the potential economic, social and cultural contribution this community can make to American society. The recent 6:3 majority decision of the US Supreme Court in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization expressly overruled the 1973 decision in Roe v Wade and the 1992 Planned Parenthood v Casey decision. This study will canvass the bases upon which the court in Dobbs overruled longstanding precedent established in Roe and Casey. It will examine the potential implications for the LGBTQ community of the result in Dobbs. The potential far-reaching consequences of this case are foreshadowed in a concurring opinion by Justice Clarence Thomas, suggesting the Court should revisit all substantive due process cases. This includes notably the Lawrence v Texas case (invalidating sodomy laws criminalizing same-sex relations) and the Obergefellcase (upholding same-sex marriage). Finally, the study will examine the likely impact of the uncertainty brought about by the decision in Doddsfor LGBTQ students in US educational institutions. The actions of several states post-Dobbs, reflects and exacerbates the problems facing LGBTQ+ students and uncovers and highlights societal homophobia and transphobia. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human%20rights" title="human rights">human rights</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LGBT%20rights" title=" LGBT rights"> LGBT rights</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=right%20to%20personal%20dignity%20and%20autonomy" title=" right to personal dignity and autonomy"> right to personal dignity and autonomy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=substantive%20due%20process%20rights" title=" substantive due process rights"> substantive due process rights</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156153/the-domino-principle-of-dobbs-v-jackson-womens-health-organization-the-gays-are-next" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156153.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">104</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">184</span> The Professor’s Bayonet: An Educational Podcast Splicing the Literary with Social Commentary and Theology</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jason%20Dew">Jason Dew</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Podcasts are increasingly sources of intellectual content for many who desire to broaden their worldview. Topics range from sports to folklore, entertainment to spirituality. The list from which to choose is large, demonstrating the public’s interest in this medium. While traditional classrooms continue to serve the curious and upward bound, podcasts also satisfy intellectual cravings, especially for those on the go. The paper will explore how the podcast, The Professor’s Bayonet, attempts to scratch these itches by offering 4-5 minute commentaries on literary works, both classic and contemporary, through the dual lenses of current trends in society and theology. The reason for this approach is borne out of the direction many students take in exchanges of ideas. They have a sincere interest in how the books that are covered are relevant to their lives, and their questions are probing to the extent that dips into theology are helpful. Cursory examinations of whatever topic just won’t suffice. Those in Generation Z, especially, are parched for real and true answers. The paper, therefore, will share some excerpts from a selection of episodes, explaining the reasons behind why certain works were showcased. In an episode entitled “The Possibility of Evil,” for example, Shirley Jackson’s 1965 short story of the same name is explored, focusing on why the protagonist, Adela Strangeworth, leaves nasty little notes in the mailboxes of those in her small community she deems deserving of a good tongue-lashing. There is a negative result and the opportunity to make the connection to social media and how millions of individuals are guilty of the very same thing Adela Strangeworth is guilty of, making Jackson’s work somewhat prophetic. Reasons for this behavior are explored, namely what it says about how we as a society have evolved both interpersonally and spiritually. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=podcast" title="podcast">podcast</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20commentary" title=" social commentary"> social commentary</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=theology" title=" theology"> theology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=literary" title=" literary"> literary</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186785/the-professors-bayonet-an-educational-podcast-splicing-the-literary-with-social-commentary-and-theology" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186785.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">48</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">183</span> Water Management of Erdenet Mining Company</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=K.%20H.%20Oyuntungalag">K. Initial phases relate to field programs and desktop studies intended to build the data and knowledge base, including the design of water management infrastructure and development during these initial phases. Such a model is essential to demonstrate that the water management plan (WMP) will provide adequate water for the mine operations and sufficient capacity for anticipated flows and volumes, and minimize environmental impacts on the receiving environment. The water and mass balance model must cover the whole mine life cycle, from the start of mine development to a date sufficiently far in the future where the reclaimed landscape is considered self- sustaining following complete closure of the mine (i.e., post- closure). The model simulates the movement of water within the components of the water management infrastructure and project operating areas, and calculates chemical loadings to each mine component. At Erdenet Mining company an initial water balance model reflecting the tailings dam, groundwater seepage and mine process water was developed in collaboration with Dr. Scott Kenner (visiting Fulbright scholar). From this preliminary study the following recommendations were made: 1. Develop a detailed groundwater model to simulate seepage from the tailings dam, 2. Establish an evaporation pan for improving evapotranspiration estimates, and 3. Measure changes in storage of water within the tailings dam and other water storage components within the mine processing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=evapotranspiration" title="evapotranspiration ">evapotranspiration </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=monitoring%20program" title=" monitoring program"> monitoring program</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erdenet%20mining" title=" Erdenet mining"> Erdenet mining</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tailings%20dam" title=" tailings dam"> tailings dam</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20522/water-management-of-erdenet-mining-company" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20522.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">477</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">182</span> Connecting MRI Physics to Glioma Microenvironment: Comparing Simulated T2-Weighted MRI Models of Fixed and Expanding Extracellular Space</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pamela%20R.%20%20Jackson">Pamela R. This hyperintensity corresponds with vasogenic edema, however there are likely many infiltrating tumor cells within the hyperintensity as well. While MRIs do not directly indicate tumor cells, MRIs do reflect the microenvironmental water abnormalities caused by the presence of tumor cells and edema. The inherent heterogeneity and resulting MRI features of GBMs complicate assessing disease response. To understand how hyperintensity on T2/FLAIR MRI may correlate with edema in the extracellular space (ECS), a multi-compartmental MRI signal equation which takes into account tissue compartments and their associated volumes with input coming from a mathematical model of glioma growth that incorporates edema formation was explored. The reasonableness of two possible extracellular space schema was evaluated by varying the T2 of the edema compartment and calculating the possible resulting T2s in tumor and peripheral edema. In the mathematical model, gliomas were comprised of vasculature and three tumor cellular phenotypes: normoxic, hypoxic, and necrotic. Edema was characterized as fluid leaking from abnormal tumor vessels. Spatial maps of tumor cell density and edema for virtual tumors were simulated with different rates of proliferation and invasion and various ECS expansion schemes. These spatial maps were then passed into a multi-compartmental MRI signal model for generating simulated T2/FLAIR MR images. Individual compartments’ T2 values in the signal equation were either from literature or estimated and the T2 for edema specifically was varied over a wide range (200 ms – 9200 ms). T2 maps were calculated from simulated images. T2 values based on simulated images were evaluated for regions of interest (ROIs) in normal appearing white matter, tumor, and peripheral edema. The ROI T2 values were compared to T2 values reported in literature. The expanding scheme of extracellular space is had T2 values similar to the literature calculated values. The static scheme of extracellular space had a much lower T2 values and no matter what T2 was associated with edema, the intensities did not come close to literature values. Expanding the extracellular space is necessary to achieve simulated edema intensities commiserate with acquired MRIs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=extracellular%20space" title="extracellular space">extracellular space</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=glioblastoma%20multiforme" title=" glioblastoma multiforme"> glioblastoma multiforme</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnetic%20resonance%20imaging" title=" magnetic resonance imaging"> magnetic resonance imaging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematical%20modeling" title=" mathematical modeling"> mathematical modeling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67871/connecting-mri-physics-to-glioma-microenvironment-comparing-simulated-t2-weighted-mri-models-of-fixed-and-expanding-extracellular-space" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67871.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">235</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">181</span> Geometric Properties of Some q-Bessel Functions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C4%B0brahim%20Akta%C5%9F">İbrahim Aktaş</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%81rp%C3%A1d%20Baricz"> Árpád Baricz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, the radii of star likeness of the Jackson and Hahn-Exton q-Bessel functions are considered, and for each of them three different normalizations is applied. Approximately one-third of the route, along Hunter and Scott Streets, is subject to potential shallow underground mine workings. The extent of mining and seams mined is unclear. Convicts mined the Yard Seam and overlying Dudley (Dirty) Seam in Newcastle sometime between 1800 and 1830. The Australian Agricultural Company mined the Yard Seam from about 1831 to the 1860s in the alignment area. The Yard Seam was about 3 feet (0.9m) thick, and therefore, known as the Yard Seam. Mine maps do not exist for the workings in the area of interest and it was unclear if both or just one seam was mined. Information from 1830s geological mapping and other data showing shaft locations were used along Scott Street and information from the 1908 Royal Commission was used along Hunter Street to develop an investigation program. In addition, mining was encountered for several sites to the south of the alignment at depths of about 7 m to 25 m. Based on the anticipated depths of mining, it was considered prudent to assess the potential for sinkhole development on the proposed alignment and realigned underground utilities and to obtain approval for the work from Subsidence Advisory NSW (SA NSW). The assessment consisted of a desktop study, followed by a subsurface investigation. Four boreholes were drilled along Scott Street and three boreholes were drilled along Hunter Street using HQ coring techniques in the rock. The placement of boreholes was complicated by the presence of utilities in the roadway and traffic constraints. All the boreholes encountered the Yard Seam, with conditions varying from unmined coal to an open void, indicating the presence of mining. The geotechnical information obtained from the boreholes was expanded by using various downhole techniques including; borehole camera, borehole sonar, and downhole geophysical logging. The camera provided views of the rock and helped to explain zones of no recovery. In addition, timber props within the void were observed. Borehole sonar was performed in the void and provided an indication of room size as well as the presence of timber props within the room. Downhole geophysical logging was performed in the boreholes to measure density, natural gamma, and borehole deviation. The data helped confirm that all the mining was in the Yard Seam and that the overlying Dudley Seam had been eroded in the past over much of the alignment. In summary, the assessment allowed the potential for sinkhole subsidence to be assessed and a mitigation approach developed to allow conditional approval by SA NSW. It also confirmed the presence of mining in the Yard Seam, the depth to the seam and mining conditions, and indicated that subsidence did not appear to have occurred in the past. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=downhole%20investigation%20techniques" title="downhole investigation techniques">downhole investigation techniques</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drilling" title=" drilling"> drilling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mine%20subsidence" title=" mine subsidence"> mine subsidence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=yard%20seam" title=" yard seam"> yard seam</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88140/investigation-of-yard-seam-workings-for-the-proposed-newcastle-light-rail-project" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88140.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">314</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">178</span> Analysis of Ferroresonant Overvoltages in Cable-fed Transformers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=George%20Eduful">George Eduful</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ebenezer%20A.%20Jackson"> Ebenezer A. These overvoltages impose stress on insulations of transformers and cables and subsequently result in system failures. Undertaking Basic Multiple Regression Analysis (BMR) on the results obtained, a statistical model was obtained in terms of cable length and transformer capacity. The Chief Justice, whether intended or not, vested such power in the supreme judicial institution via the case of Marbury v. Madison. Such power, nevertheless, had not been exercised for many years, till the Dred Scott case. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Judiciary%20Acts%201789" title="Judiciary Acts 1789">Judiciary Acts 1789</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=1801" title=" 1801"> 1801</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chief%20justice" title=" chief justice"> chief justice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=associate%20justice" title=" associate justice"> associate justice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=justice%20of%20peace" title=" justice of peace"> justice of peace</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=review%20of%0D%0Aconstitutionality%20of%20acts" title=" review of constitutionality of acts"> review of constitutionality of acts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jay%20court" title=" Jay court"> Jay court</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ellsworth%20court" title=" Ellsworth court"> Ellsworth court</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marshall%20court" title=" Marshall court"> Marshall court</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47492/crystallization-of-the-us-supreme-courts-role-as-an-arbiter-of-constitutionality-of-laws" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47492.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">303</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">174</span> Corporate Social Media: Understanding the Impact of Service Quality and Social Value on Customer Behavior</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Regina%20Connolly">Regina Connolly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Murray%20Scott"> Murray Scott</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=William%20DeLone"> William DeLone</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Social media are revolutionary technologies that are transforming the way we communicate, the way we collaborate and the way we influence. Companies are making major investments in platforms such as Facebook and Twitter because they realize that social media are an influential force on customer perceptions and behavior. However, to date there is little guidance on what constitutes an effective deployment of social media and there is no empirical evidence that social medial investments are yielding positive returns. This research develops and validates the components of an effective corporate social media platform in order to examine the impact of effective social media on customer intentions and behavior. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=service%20quality" title="service quality">service quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20value" title=" social value"> social value</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20media" title=" social media"> social media</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IS%20success" title=" IS success"> IS success</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Web%202.0" title=" Web 2.0"> Web 2.0</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=customer%20behaviour" title=" customer behaviour"> customer behaviour</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20593/corporate-social-media-understanding-the-impact-of-service-quality-and-social-value-on-customer-behavior" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20593.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">559</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">173</span> The Relationship between Organizational Climate with Job Burnout and Job Satisfaction in Employees of Tehran Electric Company</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zeinab%20Amini%20Moghaddam">Zeinab Amini Moghaddam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alireza%20Dehkhodania"> Alireza Dehkhodania</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nowadays, organizations have found a high status in the cultural and social structures of societies. Similar problems arise at the bilateral level, as in the case of trade talks between the United States and the Dominican Republic. The study explores the determinant of agricultural industry competitiveness in the 21st century, particularly in the case of U.S. and Dominican agriculture in each other&rsquo;s market. Complementing existing scholarship on industry competitiveness, the study argues that trade rules that are established under preferential access programs and trade agreements play a significant role in shaping an industry&rsquo;s ability to compete. The final analysis is used to offer recommendations to the same sector in Cuba. Cuba currently relies heavily on U.S. food imports and is experiencing the gradual opening of trade with the United States. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agriculture" title="agriculture">agriculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bargaining" title=" bargaining"> bargaining</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=competitiveness" title=" competitiveness"> competitiveness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dominican%20Republic" title=" Dominican Republic"> Dominican Republic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DR-CAFTA" title=" DR-CAFTA"> DR-CAFTA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=free%20trade%20agreement" title=" free trade agreement"> free trade agreement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=institutions" title=" institutions"> institutions</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/53065/agriculture-in-the-dominican-republic-competitiveness-in-a-new-trade-regime-and-lessons-for-cuba" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/53065.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">281</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">171</span> Aliasing Free and Additive Error in Spectra for Alpha Stable Signals</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=R.%20Sabre">R. The objective of this paper is to estimate this error from discrete observations of the signal. For that, we propose a method based on the smoothing of the observations via Jackson polynomial kernel and taking into account the width of the interval where the spectral density is non-zero. This technique allows avoiding the &ldquo;Aliasing phenomenon&rdquo; encountered when the estimation is made from the discrete observations of a process with continuous time. We have studied the convergence rate of the estimator and have shown that the convergence rate improves in the case where the spectral density is zero at the origin. Thus, we set up an estimator of the additive error that can be subtracted for approaching the original signal without error. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20density" title="spectral density">spectral density</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stable%20processes" title=" stable processes"> stable processes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aliasing" title=" aliasing"> aliasing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non%20parametric" title=" non parametric"> non parametric</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/110786/aliasing-free-and-additive-error-in-spectra-for-alpha-stable-signals" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/110786.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">129</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">170</span> The Process of Critical Care Nursing Resilience in Workplace Adversity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jennifer%20Jackson">Jennifer Jackson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Critical care nurses are at risk for burnout when confronted with sustained workplace adversity, which stems from a variety of social, structural, and environmental factors. In this work the chemical structure of oleic acid chains was modified by homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis in order to produce esters. The homogeneous epoxidation was carried out at H2O2 to oleic acid unsaturation molar ratio of 20:1. The reaction temperature was 338 K and reaction time 16 h. Formic acid was used as catalyst. For heterogeneous catalysis reaction temperature was 343 K and reaction time 24 h. The esters production was carried out by heterogeneous catalysis of the epoxidized oleic acid and butanol using Mg/SBA-15 as catalyst. The resulting products were confirmed by NMR (1H and 13C) and FTIR spectroscopy. The products were characterized before and after each reaction. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and BET surface areas. The results were satisfactory for the bioproducts formed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acid%20oleic" title="acid oleic">acid oleic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioproduct" title=" bioproduct"> bioproduct</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=esters" title=" esters"> esters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=epoxidation" title=" epoxidation"> epoxidation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51353/evaluation-of-esters-production-by-oleic-acid-epoxidation-reaction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51353.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">356</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">168</span> Exploring Fear in Moral Life: Implications for Education</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liz%20Jackson">Liz Jackson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fear is usually considered as a basic emotion. In society, it is normally cast as undesirable, but also as partly unavoidable. Fear can be said to underlie courage or be required for courage, or it can be understood as its foil. Fear is not normally promoted (intentionally) in education, or treated as something that should be cultivated in schools or in society. However, fear is a basic, to some extent unavoidable emotion, related to truly fearsome things in the world. Fear is also understood to underlie anxiety. Fear is seen as basically disruptive to education, while from a psychological view it is an ordinary state. that cannot be avoided altogether. Despite calls to diminish this negative and mixed feeling in education and society, it can be regarded as socially and personally valuable, and psychologically functional in some situations. One should not take for granted the goodness of fear. However, it can be productive to explore its moral worth, and uses and abuses. Such uncomfortable feelings and experiences can be cultivated and explored via educational and other societal influences, in ways that can benefit a person and their relations with others in the world, while they can also be detrimental. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtue%20ethics" title="virtue ethics">virtue ethics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=philosophy%20of%20education" title=" philosophy of education"> philosophy of education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=moral%20philosophy" title=" moral philosophy"> moral philosophy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fear" title=" fear"> fear</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124684/exploring-fear-in-moral-life-implications-for-education" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124684.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">142</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">167</span> Effective Counseling Techniques Working with At-Risk Youth in Residential and Outpatient Settings</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20A.%20Scott">David A. Juvenile court systems and mental health agencies are examining alternative ways to deal with at-risk youth that will allow the adolescent to live within their home community. The previous trend that treatment away from home is more effective than treatment near one's community has shifted. Research now suggests that treatment be close to home for several reasons, such as increased treatment success, parental involvement, and reduced costs. Treatment options consist of a wide range of interventions, including outpatient, inpatient, and community-based services (therapeutic group homes, foster care and in-home preservation services). The juvenile justice system, families and other mental health agencies continue to seek the most effective treatment for at-risk youth in their communities. This research examines two possible treatment modalities, a multi-systemic outpatient program and a residential program. Research examining effective, evidence- based counseling will be discussed during this presentation. The presenter recently completed a three-year research grant examining effective treatment modalities for at-risk youth participating in a multi-systemic program. The presenter has also been involved in several research activities gathering data on effective techniques used in residential programs. The data and discussion will be broken down into two parts, each discussing one of the treatment modalities mentioned above. Data on the residential programs was collected on both a sample of 740 at- risk youth over a five-year period and also a sample of 63 participants during a one-year period residing in a residential programs. The effectiveness of these residential services was measured in three ways: services are evaluated by primary referral sources; follow-up data is obtained at various intervals after program participation to measure recidivism (what percentage got back into trouble with the Department of Juvenile Justice); and a more sensitive, "Offense Seriousness Score", has been computed and analyzed prior to, during and after treatment in the residential program. Data on the multi-systemic program was gathered over the past three years on 190 participants. Research will discuss pre and post test results, recidivism rates, academic performance, parental involvement, and effective counseling treatment modalities. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=at-risk%20youth" title="at-risk youth">at-risk youth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=group%20homes" title=" group homes"> group homes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=therapeutic%20group%20homes" title=" therapeutic group homes"> therapeutic group homes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recidivism%20rates" title=" recidivism rates"> recidivism rates</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168181/effective-counseling-techniques-working-with-at-risk-youth-in-residential-and-outpatient-settings" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168181.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">81</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">166</span> A Call for Transformative Learning Experiences to Facilitate Student Workforce Diversity Learning in the United States</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jeanetta%20D.%20Sims">Jeanetta D. Nevertheless, urban wetlands in Tanzania have been taken for granted; many have been converted into waste disposal areas and settlements despite their substantial role in climate-change flood attenuation and livelihood. This is due to the lacking informing assessments from a socio-economic perspective. This study assesses the contribution of urban wetlands to the livelihood of marginalised communities in Dar es Salaam City, Tanzania. Specifically, the study assesses the an extent and nature of change in wetlands in Dar es Salaam City for the past 30 years using the land-use land-cover change approach and the contribution of wetlands to livelihood using questionnaires. The results show that the loss of wetlands in Dar es Salaam is high to extent that will likely jeopardise their future contributions to livelihood. The results inform decision-makers on the importance of wise use of Urban Wetlands and conservation to improving livelihood for urban dwellers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wetlands" title="wetlands">wetlands</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tanzania" title=" tanzania"> tanzania</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dar%20es%20salaam" title=" dar es salaam"> dar es salaam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climate-change" title=" climate-change"> climate-change</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=and%20wetlands" title=" and wetlands"> and wetlands</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=livelihood" title=" livelihood"> livelihood</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143567/contribution-of-urban-wetlands-to-livelihood-in-tanzania" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143567.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">170</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">164</span> Global Collaboration During Global Crisis a Response to Rigorous Field Education in Social Work</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ruth%20Gerritsen-McKane">Ruth Gerritsen-McKane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mimi%20Sodhi"> Mimi Sodhi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lisa%20Gray"> Lisa Gray</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Donette%20Considine"> Donette Considine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Henry%20Kronner"> Henry Kronner</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tameca%20Harris-Jackson"> Tameca Harris-Jackson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> During these extraordinary times amid a global pandemic, political/civil unrest, and natural disasters, the need for appropriately trained professional social workers has never been stronger. Needs do not diminish but are heightened during such remarkable times. All too often, “developed” countries see the crisis in developing countries as uniquely theirs; 2020 has shown, there are no “others”; there is only us. Consequently, engaging in meaningful collaboration worldwide is essential! This presentation speaks to the fundamentals of global collaboration and, more importantly, how an in these trying times, the development of strong international partnerships can create opportunities for social work students across the planet to engage in meaningful field education opportunities. Accomplished by multiple modalities, a deeper understanding and response to social work students becoming formidable global citizens can be achieved. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=global%20citizens" title="global citizens">global citizens</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=global%20crisis" title=" global crisis"> global crisis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=global%20collaboration" title=" global collaboration"> global collaboration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modalities" title=" modalities"> modalities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134517/global-collaboration-during-global-crisis-a-response-to-rigorous-field-education-in-social-work" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134517.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">221</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">163</span> Gluteal Augmentation: A Historical Perspective on Society&#039;s Fascination with Buttock Size</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shane%20R.%20Jackson">Shane R. While many commentators attribute this rise in popularity with current societal trends towards public sharing of private life, the fascination with buttock size is in fact a much older human trait. By searching beyond medical literature and delving into historical sources, from ancient civilisations, through the Renaissance and Victorian eras to the ‘Instagram generation’ of the present day, this paper examines the differences – and similarities – in society’s ideal buttock shape and size. Furthermore, the ways in which these various cultures have altered their appearance to achieve this ideal are also examined, looking at the influence of the broader historical context. A deeper understanding of the historical, cultural and psychosocial factors that influence a patient’s desire for buttock augmentation allows the clinician to formulate a well-rounded surgical plan. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=augmentation" title="augmentation">augmentation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brazilian%20butt%20lift" title=" Brazilian butt lift"> Brazilian butt lift</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buttock" title=" buttock"> buttock</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fat%20graft" title=" fat graft"> fat graft</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gluteal" title=" gluteal"> gluteal</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124658/gluteal-augmentation-a-historical-perspective-on-societys-fascination-with-buttock-size" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124658.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">197</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">162</span> Identifying Chaotic Architecture: Origins of Nonlinear Design Theory</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammadsadegh%20Zanganehfar">Mohammadsadegh Zanganehfar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Since the modernism, movement, and appearance of modern architecture, an aggressive desire for a general design theory in the theoretical works of architects in the form of books and essays emerges. Since Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown’s published complexity and contradiction in architecture in 1966, the discourse of complexity and volumetric composition has been an important and controversial issue in the discipline. Ever since various theories and essays were involved in this discourse, this paper attempt to identify chaos theory as a scientific model of complexity and its relation to architecture design theory by conducting a qualitative analysis and multidisciplinary critical approach through architecture and basic sciences resources. As a result, we identify chaotic architecture as the correlation of chaos theory and architecture as an independent nonlinear design theory with specific characteristics and properties. <p
