class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The paper describes the history and the stylistic choices adopted in the construction of Palazzo Ronzani in Bologna, which was the first building to rise after the heavy demolitions carried out in the historical center of the city at the beginning of the twentieth century. In 1910, the local administration adopted a detailed plan to change the aspect of the city, as it was already happening in the main European capitals. In this context, starting from 1911, the architect and scenographer Gualtiero Pontoni designed for Alessandro Ronzani -the owner of a well-known Bolognese beer company- his Palazzo, which is listed among the first multifunctional buildings in Bologna, containing offices, commercial activities, and entertainment spaces. In an area of about 2000 m², the architect was able to propose a theatre with a capacity of 2000 seats at the basement, shops, a cafè-chantant and a restaurant on the ground floor, clubs, studios and commercial stores on the mezzanine and the first plan, and a hotel on the upper floors. The whole core of the building, at the underground levels, consisted of a reinforced concrete frame (one of the first examples of this type of construction in the city), which allowed the hall to have a free span of 11 x 12 meters, and a height of about 9 meters. Used until 2007 as a cinema, the hall has remained then in disuse for almost 10 years, but now an important functional restoration project with a strong architectural and scenographic value is taking place. It will bring the spaces back to the original geometries, in a historical and artistic condition inspired by the styles of the early Twentieth century. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Modernissimo" title="Modernissimo">Modernissimo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Palazzo%20Ronzani" title=" Palazzo Ronzani"> Palazzo Ronzani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liberty" title=" liberty"> liberty</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bologna" title=" Bologna"> Bologna</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109407/theatrical-architecture-in-bologna-at-the-beginning-of-the-twentieth-century-the-renaissance-of-modernissimo-cinema" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109407.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">120</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">119</span> Seizure Effects of FP Bearings on the Seismic Reliability of Base-Isolated Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paolo%20Castaldo">Paolo Castaldo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Palazzo"> Bruno Palazzo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laura%20Lodato"> Laura Lodato</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study deals with the seizure effects of friction pendulum (FP) bearings on the seismic reliability of a 3D base-isolated nonlinear structural system, designed according to Italian seismic code (NTC08). The isolated system consists in a 3D reinforced concrete superstructure, a r.c. substructure and the FP devices, described by employing a velocity dependent model. The seismic input uncertainty is considered as a random variable relevant to the problem, by employing a set of natural seismic records selected in compliance with L’Aquila (Italy) seismic hazard as provided from NTC08. Several non-linear dynamic analyses considering the three components of each ground motion have been performed with the aim to evaluate the seismic reliability of the superstructure, substructure, and isolation level, also taking into account the seizure event of the isolation devices. Finally, a design solution aimed at increasing the seismic robustness of the base-isolated systems with FPS is analyzed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FP%20devices" title="FP devices">FP devices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seismic%20reliability" title=" seismic reliability"> seismic reliability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seismic%20robustness" title=" seismic robustness"> seismic robustness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seizure" title=" seizure"> seizure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55083/seizure-effects-of-fp-bearings-on-the-seismic-reliability-of-base-isolated-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55083.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">412</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">118</span> Technoscience in the Information Society</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20P.%20Moiseeva">A. The combination of European modernist ideas with American musical culture, which differed in many ways from European musical culture, led to unique results. During the 1920s and even more so in the 1930s, members of the Austrian-German artistic intelligentsia, particularly those of Jewish origin who felt insecure in their homeland, began to look for a safer place. The United States has become such a place for many, and many of them chose the second largest metropolis—Los Angeles. The most notable figure in this group was the modernist composer Arnold Schoenberg. Other famous musicians were conductors Otto Klemperer and Bruno Walter. The study focused on how these people acclimated to a city whose culture and business revolved around film production; what place the conductors Klemperer and Walter occupied in the city, state, and country; how Schoenberg, whose musical style was little understood by the American public, was able to realize himself; what path he took when he was accepted to two universities as a professor of counterpoint and composition; and whether he revised his own views on the development of Western music. Another aspect was the study of how the composer’s memory was preserved in the universities where he taught. The study is based primarily on materials found in four libraries of two universities located in Los Angeles, UCLA and USC, during my tenure as a visiting scholar at USC Thornton School of Music (August 2023), to be completed during my upcoming visit there in August-September 2024, as well as on interviews with people active in efforts to keep Schoenberg’s memory alive on the USC Campus. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=los%20angeles" title="los angeles">los angeles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=filmmaking" title=" filmmaking"> filmmaking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immigrant%20musicians" title=" immigrant musicians"> immigrant musicians</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=arnold%20schoenberg" title=" arnold schoenberg"> arnold schoenberg</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=otto%20klemperer" title=" otto klemperer"> otto klemperer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bruno%20walter" title=" bruno walter"> bruno walter</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/187905/music-of-a-film-city-interwar-europe-in-los-angeles-1930s" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/187905.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">26</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">116</span> The &#039;Cornaro Family Tree&#039; as a Tool for Identifying Cornaro Family Portraits</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rachel%20Healy">Rachel Healy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper builds on the speaker’s recent identification of an early sixteenth-century painting in the National Gallery of Ireland as containing rare portraits of Giorgio Cornaro (brother of Caterina, Queen of Cyprus) and his son Cardinal Francesco. It resolves similar long-standing confusion regarding the identities of sitters in related works by Titian, Raphael and Bernini, in works such as the Cornaro Triple Portrait in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, Man with a Falcon in The Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha, Head of a Cardinal, Wilton House, Wiltshire and The Cornaro Chapel, Santa Maria della Vittoria, Rome, by using an overlooked seventeenth-century painted Cornaro family tree, from Palazzo Corner-Mocenigo, as a tool for identifying these and other sitters in disputed portraits of one of Renaissance Venice’s wealthiest and most influential patrician families. In so doing, it will cast new light on Titian’s development as a portraitist and the extent to which important paintings commissioned by the Cornaro survived fires at two family palaces in Venice in the 1530s. It will also showcase the associations Raphael had with the Cornaro cardinal and will present new evidence relating to the likenesses Bernini fashioned for the Cornaro Chapel in 1647-52. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Venice" title="Venice">Venice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=portraits" title=" portraits"> portraits</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=titian" title=" titian"> titian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genealogy" title=" genealogy"> genealogy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bernini" title=" Bernini"> Bernini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=family%20tree" title=" family tree"> family tree</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raphael" title=" Raphael"> Raphael</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=venetian%20family" title=" venetian family"> venetian family</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cornaro" title=" cornaro"> cornaro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sixteenth%20century%20Venice" title=" sixteenth century Venice"> sixteenth century Venice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=portraiture" title=" portraiture"> portraiture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169066/the-cornaro-family-tree-as-a-tool-for-identifying-cornaro-family-portraits" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169066.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">270</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">115</span> Numerical Methodology to Support the Development of a Double Chamber Syringe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Louren%C3%A7o%20Bastos">Lourenço Bastos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Filipa%20Carneiro"> Filipa Carneiro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Vale"> Bruno Vale</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rita%20Marques%20Joana%20Silva"> Rita Marques Joana Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ricardo%20Freitas"> Ricardo Freitas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%82ngelo%20Marques"> Ângelo Marques</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Cortez"> Sara Cortez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alberta%20Coelho"> Alberta Coelho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pedro%20Parreira"> Pedro Parreira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liliana%20Sousa"> Liliana Sousa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anabela%20Salgueiro"> Anabela Salgueiro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Silva"> Bruno Silva</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The process of flushing is considered to be an adequate technique to reduce the risk of infection during the clinical practice of venous catheterization. Nonetheless, there is still a lack of adhesion to this method, in part due to the complexity of this procedure. The project SeringaDuo aimed to develop an innovative double-chamber syringe for intravenous sequential administration of drugs and serums. This device served the purpose of improving the adherence to the practice, through the reduction of manipulations needed, which also improves patient safety, and though the promotion of flushing practice by health professionals, by simplifying this task. To assist on the development of this innovative syringe, a numerical methodology was developed and validated in order to predict the syringe’s mechanical and flow behavior during the fluids’ loading and administration phases, as well as to allow the material behavior evaluation during its production. For this, three commercial numerical simulation software was used, namely ABAQUS, ANSYS/FLUENT, and MOLDFLOW. This methodology aimed to evaluate the concepts feasibility and to optimize the geometries of the syringe’s components, creating this way an iterative process for product development based on numerical simulations, validated by the production of prototypes. Through this methodology, it was possible to achieve a final design that fulfils all the characteristics and specifications defined. This iterative process based on numerical simulations is a powerful tool for product development that allows obtaining fast and accurate results without the strict need for prototypes. An iterative process can be implemented, consisting of consecutive constructions and evaluations of new concepts, to obtain an optimized solution, which fulfils all the predefined specifications and requirements. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Venous%20catheterization" title="Venous catheterization">Venous catheterization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flushing" title=" flushing"> flushing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=syringe" title=" syringe"> syringe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=numerical%20simulation" title=" numerical simulation"> numerical simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122369/numerical-methodology-to-support-the-development-of-a-double-chamber-syringe" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122369.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">167</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">114</span> Approximating a Funicular Shape with a Translational Surface, Example of a Glass Canopy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rapha%C3%ABl%20Menard">Raphaël Menard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Etienne%20Fayette"> Etienne Fayette</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paul%20Azzopardi"> Paul Azzopardi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents the method to generate the geometry of an actual glass canopy project in Rennes, France, by architect Bruno Gaudin, with aim to achieve the best structural efficiency possible using only quadrangle meshing. The procedure is then applied to the steady 2&ndash;D compressible Euler and incompressible Navier&ndash;Stokes flow equations. Finally, the results are compared with sensitivities obtained by finite differences and theoretical values for validation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adjoint%20method" title="adjoint method">adjoint method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aerodynamics" title=" aerodynamics"> aerodynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensitivity%20theory" title=" sensitivity theory"> sensitivity theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-geometric%20sensitivities" title=" non-geometric sensitivities"> non-geometric sensitivities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42509/non-geometric-sensitivities-using-the-adjoint-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42509.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">547</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">112</span> Building Information Management in Context of Urban Spaces, Analysis of Current Use and Possibilities</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lucie%20Jirotkov%C3%A1">Lucie Jirotková</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniel%20Macek"> Daniel Macek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrea%20Palazzo"> Andrea Palazzo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Veronika%20Malinov%C3%A1"> Veronika Malinová</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Currently, the implementation of 3D models in the construction industry is gaining popularity. Countries around the world are developing their own modelling standards and implement the use of 3D models into their individual permitting processes. Another theme that needs to be addressed are public building spaces and their subsequent maintenance, where the usage of BIM methodology is directly offered. The significant benefit of the implementation of Building Information Management is the information transfer. The 3D model contains not only the spatial representation of the item shapes but also various parameters that are assigned to the individual elements, which are easily traceable, mainly because they are all stored in one place in the BIM model. However, it is important to keep the data in the models up to date to achieve useability of the model throughout the life cycle of the building. It is now becoming standard practice to use BIM models in the construction of buildings, however, the building environment is very often neglected. Especially in large-scale development projects, the public space of buildings is often forwarded to municipalities, which obtains the ownership and are in charge of its maintenance. A 3D model of the building surroundings would include both the above-ground visible elements of the development as well as the underground parts, such as the technological facilities of water features, electricity lines for public lighting, etc. The paper shows the possibilities of a model in the field of information for the handover of premises, the following maintenance and decision making. The attributes and spatial representation of the individual elements make the model a reliable foundation for the creation of "Smart Cities". The paper analyses the current use of the BIM methodology and presents the state-of-the-art possibilities of development. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BIM%20model" title="BIM model">BIM model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20space" title=" urban space"> urban space</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BIM%20methodology" title=" BIM methodology"> BIM methodology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=facility%20management" title=" facility management"> facility management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144091/building-information-management-in-context-of-urban-spaces-analysis-of-current-use-and-possibilities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144091.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">124</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">111</span> Impact of Design Choices on the Life Cycle Energy of Modern Buildings</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahsa%20Karimpour">Mahsa Karimpour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Martin%20Belusko"> Martin Belusko</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ke%20Xing"> Ke Xing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frank%20Bruno"> Frank Bruno</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Traditionally the embodied energy of design choices which reduce operational energy were assumed to have a negligible impact on the life cycle energy of buildings. The many advantages it promises make it one of the most interesting solutions for construction in terms of automation of building processes. The technology for 3D printing houses offers many application possibilities, from low-cost construction, to being considered by NASA for visionary projects as a good solution for building settlements on other planets. Another very important point is that clients, as architects, will no longer have many limits in design concerning ideas and creativity. The prices for real estate are constantly increasing and the lack of availability of construction materials as well as the speculation that has been created around it in 2021 is bringing prices to such a level that in the future real estate developers risk not being able to find customers for these ultra-expensive homes. Hence, this paper starts with the introduction of 3D printing, which now has the potential to gain an important position in the market, becoming a valid alternative to the classic construction process. This technology is not only beneficial from an economic point of view but it is also a great opportunity to have an impact on the environment by reducing CO2 emissions. Further on in the article we will also understand if, after the COP 26 (2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference), world governments could also push towards building technologies that reduce the waste materials that are needed to be disposed of and at the same time reduce emissions with the contribution of governmental funds. This paper will give us insight on the multiple benefits of 3D printing and emphasise the importance of finding new solutions for materials that can be used by the printer. Therefore, based on the type of material, it will be possible to understand the compatibility with current regulations and how the authorities will be inclined to support this technology. This will help to enable the rise and development of this technology in Europe and in the rest of the world on actual housing projects and not only on prototypes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=additive%20manufacturing" title="additive manufacturing">additive manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contour%20crafting" title=" contour crafting"> contour crafting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=development" title=" development"> development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=new%20regulation" title=" new regulation"> new regulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=printing%20material" title=" printing material"> printing material</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143982/construction-innovation-support-for-3d-printing-house" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143982.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">198</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">109</span> Sol-Gel Synthesis and Optical Characterisation of TiO2 Thin Films for Photovoltaic Application</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arabi%20Nour%20El%20Houda">Arabi Nour El Houda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iratni%20Aicha"> Iratni Aicha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Talaighil%20Razika"> Talaighil Razika</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Capoen"> Bruno Capoen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Bouazaoui"> Mohamed Bouazaoui</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> TiO2 thin films have been prepared by the sol-gel dip-coating technique in order to elaborate antireflective thin films for monocrystalline silicon (mono-Si). For example, in automatic audio classification (AC) tasks, musical information retrieval (MIR) subarea, is required a fast processing and a good success rate. However the mobile platform has limited computing power and the best AC tools are only available for desktop. To solve these problems the fast classifier suits, to mobile environments, the most widespread MIR technologies, seeking a balance in terms of speed and robustness. At the end we found that it is possible to enjoy the best of MIR for mobile environments. The basic objective of this work is the detection of damage in automotive gearbox. The detection methods used are the wavelet method, the bispectrum; advanced filtering techniques (selective filtering) of vibrational signals and mathematical morphology. Gearbox vibration tests were performed (gearboxes in good condition and with defects) of a production line of a large vehicle assembler. The vibration signals are obtained using five accelerometers in different positions of the sample. After hydrothermal and cation exchange procedures, the Mn residues transformed to a single phase, Mg-OMS-1. The raw material and the synthesis processes were analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The tunnel structure was synthesized hydrothermally at 180 °C for three days without impurities. According to the XRD analysis, the formation of crystalline Mg-OMS-1 was identified through reflections at 9.8º, 12º and 18º (2θ), as well as a thermal stability around 300 ºC. The SEM analysis indicated that the final product presents good crystallinity with a homogeneous size. In addition, an intense and diagnostic FTIR band was identified at 515 cm⁻¹ related to the MnO₆ octahedral stretching vibrations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mn%20residues" title="Mn residues ">Mn residues </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Octahedral%20Molecular%20Sieve" title=" Octahedral Molecular Sieve"> Octahedral Molecular Sieve</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Synthesis" title=" Synthesis"> Synthesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Characterization" title=" Characterization"> Characterization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76558/hydrothermal-synthesis-of-octahedral-molecular-sieve-from-mn-oxide-residues" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76558.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">191</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">100</span> Potential Biosorption of Rhodococcus erythropolis, an Isolated Strain from Sossego Copper Mine, Brazil </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcela%20dos%20P.%20G.%20Baltazar">Marcela dos P. The nature and potential long-term effects of this phenomenon have been widely studied within the framework of the EU funded project &lsquo;Digital Do It Yourself&rsquo;, in which the authors have created and experimented a specific Digital Do It Yourself (DiDIY) co-design process. The phenomenon was first studied through a literature research to understand its multiple dimensions and complexity. Therefore, co-design workshops were used to investigate the phenomenon by involving people to achieve a complete understanding of the DiDIY practices and its enabling factors. These analyses allowed the definition of the DiDIY fundamental factors that were then translated into a design tool. The objective of the tool is to shape design concepts by transferring these factors into different environments to achieve innovation. The aim of this paper is to present the &lsquo;DiDIY Factor Stimuli&rsquo; tool, describing the research path and the findings behind it. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=co-design%20process" title="co-design process">co-design process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20DIY" title=" digital DIY"> digital DIY</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=innovation" title=" innovation"> innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=toolkit" title=" toolkit"> toolkit</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100399/transferring-of-digital-diy-potentialities-through-a-co-design-tool" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100399.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">177</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">97</span> Production of Polyurethane Foams from Bark Wastes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lu%C3%ADsa%20P.%20Cruz-Lopes">Luísa P. The aim of this work was to use biopolyols from liquefied Pseudotsuga (<em>Pseudotsuga menziesii</em>) and Turkey oak (<em>Quercus cerris</em>) barks for the production of polyurethane foams and optimize the process. Liquefaction was done with glycerol catalyzed by KOH. Foams were produced following different formulations and using biopolyols from both barks. Subsequently, the foams were characterized according to their mechanical properties and the reaction of the foam formation was monitored by FTIR-ATR. The results show that it is possible to produce polyurethane foams using bio-based polyols and the liquefaction conditions are very important because they influence the characteristics of biopolyols and, consequently the characteristics of the foams. However, the process has to be further optimized so that it can obtain better quality foams. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bio-based%20polyol" title="Bio-based polyol">Bio-based polyol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20tests" title=" mechanical tests"> mechanical tests</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyurethane%20foam" title=" polyurethane foam"> polyurethane foam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pseudotsuga%20bark" title=" Pseudotsuga bark"> Pseudotsuga bark</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=renewable%20resources" title=" renewable resources"> renewable resources</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Turkey%20oak%20bark" title=" Turkey oak bark"> Turkey oak bark</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51260/production-of-polyurethane-foams-from-bark-wastes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51260.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">345</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">96</span> Dewatering Agents for Granular Bauxite</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Diniz%20Fecchio">Bruno Diniz Fecchio</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Operations have been demanding increasingly challenging operational targets for the dewatering process, requiring lower humidity for concentrates. Chemical dewatering agents are able to improve solid/liquid separation processes, allowing operations to deal with increased complexity caused by either mineralogical changes or seasonal events that present operations with challenging moisture requirements for transportation and downstream steps. These chemicals reduce water retention by reducing the capillary pressure of the mineral and contributing to improved water drainage. This current study addresses the reagent effects on pile dewatering for Bauxite. Such chemicals were able to decrease the moisture of granulated Bauxite (particle size of 5 – 50 mm). The results of the laboratory scale tests and industrial trials presented the obtention of up to 11% relative moisture reduction, which reinforced the strong interaction between dewatering agents and the particle surface of granulated Bauxite. In this work grape stalks and olive cake were used as lignocellulosic adsorbents for wastewater containing lead treatment. To attain a better knowledge of the factors that could influence the quality of the treated wastewater, a chemical characterization of the materials used in the treatment was done. To access the ecotoxicological safety of the treated wastewater, several tests were performed. The results of the toxicity test show that the samples leachate has a mild effect on the living models tested. The tests performed in lemna and bacteria were the most sensible to toxicity effects of the samples. XRD investigation of the structural TiO2 films with increasing the temperature calcination, reveals that rutile phase will appear for the high temperature (>1000°C). However, the addition of SiO2 relate the densification of TiO2 films. Ellipsometric and UV-visible measure show that the refractive index grow with increasing temperature, against the film thickness decreases. On the other hand, the addition of SiO2 decreases the refractive index and increases the TiO2 film thickness. Finally, the hydrophilicity is assisted by contact angle measurement. It is found that addition of 50% of SiO2 to TiO2 is most effective for reducing the contact angle of water. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physical%20properties" title="physical properties">physical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sol" title=" sol"> sol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gel" title=" gel"> gel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TiO2%2FSiO2%20composite%20films" title=" TiO2/SiO2 composite films"> TiO2/SiO2 composite films</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24780/the-effect-of-the-calcination-temperature-and-sio2-addition-on-the-physical-properties-of-sol-gel-tio2-thin-films" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24780.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">493</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">93</span> Handling Complexity of a Complex System Design: Paradigm, Formalism and Transformations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hycham%20Aboutaleb">Hycham Aboutaleb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Monsuez"> Bruno Monsuez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Current systems' complexity has reached a degree that requires addressing conception and design issues while taking into account environmental, operational, social, legal, and financial aspects. Finally, a set of transformations are defined to handle the model complexity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higraph-based" title="higraph-based">higraph-based</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=formalism" title=" formalism"> formalism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=system%20engineering%20paradigm" title=" system engineering paradigm"> system engineering paradigm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modeling%20requirements" title=" modeling requirements"> modeling requirements</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graph-based%20transformations" title=" graph-based transformations"> graph-based transformations</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25766/handling-complexity-of-a-complex-system-design-paradigm-formalism-and-transformations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25766.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">403</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">92</span> Key Competences in Economics and Business Field: The Employers’ Side of the Story</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20%C5%A0krinjari%C4%87">Bruno Škrinjarić</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Rapid technological developments and increase in organizations&rsquo; interdependence on international scale are changing the traditional workplace paradigm. A key feature of knowledge based economy is that employers are looking for individuals that possess both specific academic skills and knowledge, and also capability to be proactive and respond to problems creatively and autonomously. The focus of this paper is workers with Economics and Business background and its goals are threefold: (1) to explore wide range of competences and identify which are the most important to employers; (2) to investigate the existence and magnitude of gap between required and possessed level of a certain competency; and (3) to inquire how this gap is connected with performance of a company. A study was conducted on a representative sample of Croatian enterprises during the spring of 2016. Results show that generic, rather than specific, competences are more important to employers and the gap between the relative importance of certain competence and its current representation in existing workforce is greater for generic competences than for specific. Finally, results do not support the hypothesis that this gap is correlated with firms&rsquo; performance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=competency%20gap" title="competency gap">competency gap</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=competency%20matching" title=" competency matching"> competency matching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=key%20competences" title=" key competences"> key competences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=firm%20performance" title=" firm performance"> firm performance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55993/key-competences-in-economics-and-business-field-the-employers-side-of-the-story" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55993.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">333</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">91</span> Genetic Algorithms for Feature Generation in the Context of Audio Classification</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20A.%20Menezes">José A. For instance, feature learning intends to learn the transformation of raw data into a useful representation to machine learning tasks. In automatic audio classification tasks, this is interesting since the audio, usually complex information, needs to be transformed into a computationally convenient input to process. Another technique tries to generate features by searching a feature space. Genetic algorithms, for instance, have being used to generate audio features by combining or modifying them. We find this approach particularly interesting and, despite the undeniable advances of feature learning approaches, we wanted to take a step forward in the use of genetic algorithms to find audio features, combining them with more conventional methods, like PCA, and inserting search control mechanisms, such as constraints over a confusion matrix. This work presents the results obtained on particular audio classification problems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feature%20generation" title="feature generation">feature generation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feature%20learning" title=" feature learning"> feature learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20algorithm" title=" genetic algorithm"> genetic algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=music%20information%20retrieval" title=" music information retrieval"> music information retrieval</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36638/genetic-algorithms-for-feature-generation-in-the-context-of-audio-classification" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36638.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">434</span> </span> </div> </div> <ul class="pagination"> <li class="page-item disabled"><span class="page-link">&lsaquo;</span></li> <li class="page-item active"><span class="page-link">1</span></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Palazzo&amp;page=2">2</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Palazzo&amp;page=3">3</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Palazzo&amp;page=4">4</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Palazzo&amp;page=2" rel="next">&rsaquo;</a></li> </ul> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
