investigated using submerge fermentation by Aspergillus niger in Kilka fish oil as main substrate. The Taguchi method with an L9 orthogonal array design was used to investigate the effect of parameters and their levels on lipase productivity. The optimum conditions for Kilka fish oil concentration, incubation temperature and pH were obtained 3 gr./ml 35°C and 7, respectively. The amount of lipase activity in optimum condition was obtained 4.59IU/ml. By comparing this amount with the amount of productivity in the olive oil medium based on the cost of each medium, it was that using Kilka fish oil is 84% economical. Therefore Kilka fish oil can be used as an economical and suitable substrate in the lipase production and industrial usages. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lipase" title="lipase">lipase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aspergillus%20niger" title=" Aspergillus niger"> Aspergillus niger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kilka%20fish%20oil" title=" Kilka fish oil"> Kilka fish oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=submerge%20fermentation%20method" title=" submerge fermentation method "> submerge fermentation method </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9065/using-submerge-fermentation-method-to-production-of-extracellular-lipase-by-aspergillus-niger" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9065.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">447</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">34</span> Urea Amperometric Biosensor Based on Entrapment Immobilization of Urease onto a Nanostructured Polypyrrol and Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamide%20Amani">Hamide Amani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afshin%20FarahBakhsh"> Afshin FarahBakhsh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iman%20Farahbakhsh"> Iman Farahbakhsh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, an amprometric biosensor based on surface modified polypyrrole (PPy) has been developed for the quantitative estimation of urea in aqueous solutions. The incorporation of urease (Urs) into a bipolymeric substrate consisting of PPy was performed by entrapment to the polymeric matrix, PPy acts as amperometric transducer in these biosensors. To increase the membrane conductivity, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were added to the PPy solution. The entrapped MWCNT in PPy film and the bipolymer layers were prepared for construction of Pt/PPy/MWCNT/Urs. Two different configurations of working electrodes were evaluated to investigate the potential use of the modified membranes in biosensors. The evaluation of two different configurations of working electrodes suggested that the second configuration, which was composed of an electrode-mediator-(pyrrole and multi-walled carbon nanotube) structure and enzyme, is the best candidate for biosensor applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urea%20biosensor" title="urea biosensor">urea biosensor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polypyrrole" title=" polypyrrole"> polypyrrole</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-walled%20carbon%20nanotube" title=" multi-walled carbon nanotube"> multi-walled carbon nanotube</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urease" title=" urease"> urease</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86192/urea-amperometric-biosensor-based-on-entrapment-immobilization-of-urease-onto-a-nanostructured-polypyrrol-and-multi-walled-carbon-nanotube" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86192.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">329</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">33</span> Different Methods of Fe3O4 Nano Particles Synthesis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arezoo%20Hakimi">Arezoo Hakimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afshin%20Farahbakhsh"> Afshin Farahbakhsh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Herein, we comparison synthesized Fe3O4 using, hydrothermal method, Mechanochemical processes and solvent thermal method. In this paper, several methods of bioemulsifer synthesis and purification by Bacillus licheniformis strains (namely ACO1, PTCC 1595 and ACO4) were investigated. Strains were grown in nutrient broth with different conditions in order to get maximum production of bioemulsifer. The purification of bio emulsifier and the quality evaluation of the product was done by adding sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) (98%), Ethanol or HCl to the solution followed by centrifuging. To determine the optimal conditions yielding the highest bioemulsifier production, the effect of various carbon and nitrogen sources, temperature, NaCl concentration, pH, O₂ levels, incubation time are indispensable and all of them were highly effective in bioemulsifiers production. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biosurfactant" title="biosurfactant">biosurfactant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioemulsifier" title=" bioemulsifier"> bioemulsifier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=purification" title=" purification"> purification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20tension" title=" surface tension"> surface tension</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interfacial%20tension" title=" interfacial tension"> interfacial tension</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49047/different-methods-of-producing-bioemulsifier-by-bacillus-licheniformis-strains" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49047.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">271</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Constructing the Density of States from the Parallel Wang Landau Algorithm Overlapping Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20S.%20Kussainov">Arman S. The Ising and Pott models were used as the examples of the two-dimensional spin lattices to construct their densities of states. Sampled energy space was distributed between the individual walkers with certain overlaps. This was made to include the latest development of the algorithm as the density of states replica exchange technique. Several factors of immediate importance for the seamless stitching process have being considered. They have excellent features like high activity, specificity and selectivity, and can catalyze under mild and environment friendly conditions. Epoxy-activated supports are almost-ideal ones to perform very easy immobilization of proteins and enzymes at both laboratory and industrial scale. The activated epoxy supports (chitosan/alginate, Eupergit C) may be very suitable to achieve the multipoint covalent attachment of proteins and enzymes, therefore, to stabilize their three-dimensional structure. The enzyme is firstly covalently immobilized under conditions pH 7.0 and 10.0. The remaining groups of the support are blocked to stop additional interaction between the enzyme and support by mercaptoethanol or Triton X-100. The results show support allowed obtaining biocatalysts with high immobilized protein amount and hydrolytic activity. The immobilization of lipases on epoxy support may be considered as attractive tool for obtaining highly active biocatalysts to be used in both aqueous and anhydrous aqueous media. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immobilization%20of%20enzymes" title="immobilization of enzymes">immobilization of enzymes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=epoxy%20supports" title=" epoxy supports"> epoxy supports</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=enzyme%20multipoint%20covalent%20attachment" title=" enzyme multipoint covalent attachment"> enzyme multipoint covalent attachment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microbial%20lipases" title=" microbial lipases"> microbial lipases</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9260/immobilization-of-enzymes-and-proteins-on-epoxy-activated-supports" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9260.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">388</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> Functionalized DOX Nanocapsules by Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for Targeted Drug Delivery</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afsaneh%20Ghorbanzadeh">Afsaneh Ghorbanzadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afshin%20Farahbakhsh"> Afshin Farahbakhsh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zakieh%20Bayat"> Zakieh Bayat</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The drug capsulation was used for release and targeted delivery in determined time, place and temperature or pH. The DOX nanocapsules were used to reduce and to minimize the unwanted side effects of drug. In this paper, the encapsulation methods of doxorubicin (DOX) and the labeling it by the magnetic core of iron (Fe3O4) has been studied. The Fe3O4 was conjugated with DOX via hydrazine bond. The solution was capsuled by the sensitive polymer of heat or pH such as chitosan-g-poly (N-isopropylacrylamide-co-N,N-dimethylacrylamide), dextran-g-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-N,N-dimethylacrylamide) and mPEG-G2.5 PAMAM by hydrazine bond. The drug release was very slow at temperatures lower than 380°C. There was a rapid and controlled drug release at temperatures higher than 380°C. According to experiments, the use mPEG-G2.5PAMAM is the best method of DOX nanocapsules synthesis, because in this method, the drug delivery time to certain place is lower than other methods and the percentage of released drug is higher. Generally, extraction of anthocyanins takes place at low temperatures (below 30 °C), preferably under vacuum (to minimize degradation) and in an acidic environment. In order to extract anthocyanins, the dried petals were added to 30 ml of acidic ethanol (pH=2). Amount of petals, extraction time, temperature, and ethanol percentage which were selected. Total anthocyanin content was a function of both variables of ethanol percent and extraction time.To prepare SW with pH of 3.5, different concentrations of 100, 400, 700, 1,000, and 2,000 ppm of sodium metabisulfite were added to aqueous sodium citrate. At this selected concentration, different extraction times of 20, 40, 60, 120, 180 min were tested to determine the optimum extraction time. When the extraction time was extended from 20 to 60 min, the total recovered anthocyanins of sulfur method changed from 650 to 710 mg/100 g. In the EW method Cellubrix and Pectinex enzymes were added separately to the buffer solution at different concentrations of 1%, 2.5%, 5%, 7%, 10%, and 12.5% and held for 2 hours reaction time at an ambient temperature of 40 °C. Koch), in different growth stages, a greenhouse experiment as a split plot in a completely randomized design in three replications was conducted. One month after treatments, all plants were harvested and growth parameters were determined. The data were analyzed with computer. The results showed that the herbicide applications with and without nitrogen additive caused significant reductions in growth parameters of wild barley at 2-4 leaf stage. However, the plants were not killed by this herbicide. Plants were killed completely due to applications of the two other herbicides i.e. Apirus and Total at 2-4 leaf. There was no significant difference between the effect of these two herbicides. There was no significant difference between the highest rate of each herbicide used alone and that of the lowest rate with nitrogenous additive. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=growth%20stage" title="growth stage">growth stage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=herbicide" title=" herbicide"> herbicide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nitrogen" title=" nitrogen"> nitrogen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wild%20barley" title=" wild barley"> wild barley</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55036/efficacy-of-three-different-herbicides-to-the-control-of-wild-barley-hordeum-spontaneum-c-koch-in-relation-to-plant-growth-stage-and-nitrogen-fertilizer-additive" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55036.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">260</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> The Methods of Immobilization of Laccase for Direct Transfer in an Enzymatic Fuel Cell</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afshin%20Farahbakhsh">Afshin Farahbakhsh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hoda%20Khodadadi"> Hoda Khodadadi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we compare five methods of biological fuel cell fabrication by combining a Shewanella oneidensis microbial anode and a laccase-modified air-breathing cathode. Hormozgan province, located in the south, has the Persian Gulf on the western half and the Gulf of Oman towards the east and its ports through history-initiated business, hosted alliances and built strategic partnerships. The province was commonly accessed by foreign travellers and had a long history dating back to ancient times. The natives of this land have a rich cultural inheritance. Their tradition of pottery is one of the oldest known crafts, which still survives in the region and, in particular, the Minab area. Here some potters still continue to make use of ancient methods of pottery, which are not practiced anymore in other parts of Iran. Hokmi and Shahwar are the two villages in Minab, which have small settlements of a few potter families. This paper focuses primarily on the traditional water pot known as Jahle being made by the potters here. The aim of the research was to look deeper into the method and material, form and style, decoration, baking process, and use of Jahle to preserve the knowledge before the tradition dies out and also to understand the scope of continuing the ancient traditional practices in contemporary times. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Minab" title="Minab">Minab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=native%20pottery" title=" native pottery"> native pottery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iran" title=" Iran"> Iran</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jahle" title=" Jahle"> Jahle</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161212/native-pottery-of-minab-in-iran" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161212.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">108</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">22</span> Safety Approach Highway Alignment Optimization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyed%20Abbas%20Tabatabaei">Seyed Abbas Tabatabaei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marjan%20Naderan%20Tahan"> Marjan Naderan Tahan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Kadkhodai"> Arman Kadkhodai</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An efficient optimization approach, called feasible gate (FG), is developed to enhance the computation efficiency and solution quality of the previously developed highway alignment optimization (HAO) model. This approach seeks to realistically represent various user preferences and environmentally sensitive areas and consider them along with geometric design constraints in the optimization process. This is done by avoiding the generation of infeasible solutions that violate various constraints and thus focusing the search on the feasible solutions. The proposed method is simple, but improves significantly the model’s computation time and solution quality. On the other, highway alignment optimization through Feasible Gates, eventuates only economic model by considering minimum design constrains includes minimum reduce of circular curves, minimum length of vertical curves and road maximum gradient. This modelling can reduce passenger comfort and road safety. In most of highway optimization models, by adding penalty function for each constraint, final result handles to satisfy minimum constraint. The load analysis has been conducted to determine the static and dynamic loads at the critical conditions. The inertial forces due to the velocity increment and road bump have been considered in load evaluation. The form of loading of the present machine is hauling and/or conveying the mineral machines on the mini ramp. Several stages of these forms of loading, from the initial touch of the tow and carried machine to the final position, have been assessed to determine the critical state. The stress analysis has been performed by the ANSYS software. Several geometries for the main load-carrying elements have been analyzed to have the optimum design by the minimum weight of the structure. Finally, a structure with a total weight of 38 tons has been designed with a static load-carrying capacity of 80 tons by considering the 40 tons additional capacity for dynamic effects. The stress analysis for 120 tons load gives the minimum safety factor of 1.18. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20design" title="mechanical design">mechanical design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress%20analysis" title=" stress analysis"> stress analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tow%20structure" title=" tow structure"> tow structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20load" title=" dynamic load"> dynamic load</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=static%20load" title=" static load"> static load</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149887/design-of-structure-for-a-heavy-duty-mineral-tow-machine-by-evaluating-the-dynamic-and-static-loads" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149887.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">108</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">20</span> Thymoquinone Prevented the Development of Symptoms in Animal Model of Parkinson’s Disease</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kambiz%20Hassanzadeh">Kambiz Hassanzadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyedeh%20Shohreh%20Ebrahimi"> Seyedeh Shohreh Ebrahimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shahrbanoo%20Oryan"> Shahrbanoo Oryan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Rahimmi"> Arman Rahimmi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Esmael%20Izadpanah"> Esmael Izadpanah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Parkinson’s disease is one of the most prevalent neurodegenerative diseases which occurs in elderly. There are convincing evidences that oxidative stress has an important role in both the initiation and progression of Parkinson’s disease. Thymoquinone (TQ) is shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in invitro and invivo studies. It is well documented that TQ acts as a free radical scavenger and prevents the cell damage. Therefore this study aimed to evaluate the effect of TQ on motor and non-motor symptoms in animal model of Parkinson’s disease. Male Wistar rats (10-12 months) received rotenone (1mg/kg/day, sc) to induce Parkinson’s disease model. Pretreatment with TQ (7.5 and 15 mg/kg/day, po) was administered one hour before the rotenone injection. Three motor tests (rotarod, rearing and bar tests) and two non-motor tests (forced swimming and elevated plus maze) were performed for behavioral assessment. Our results indicated that TQ significantly ameliorated the rotenone-induced motor dysfunction in rotarod and rearing tests also it could prevent the non-motor dysfunctions in forced swimming and elevated plus maze tests. In conclusion we found that TQ delayed the Parkinson's disease induction by rotenone and this effect might be related to its proved antioxidant effect. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Parkinson%27s%20disease" title="Parkinson's disease">Parkinson's disease</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thymoquinone" title=" thymoquinone"> thymoquinone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=motor%20and%20non-motor%20symptoms" title=" motor and non-motor symptoms"> motor and non-motor symptoms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neurodegenerative%20disease" title=" neurodegenerative disease"> neurodegenerative disease</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18856/thymoquinone-prevented-the-development-of-symptoms-in-animal-model-of-parkinsons-disease" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18856.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">547</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19</span> Chairussyuhur Arman, Totti Tjiptosumirat, Muhammad Gunawan, Mastur, Joko Priyono, Baiq Tri Ratna Erawati</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20M.%20Giannakou">Maria M. While the need for these networks is unquestionable, there are serious concerns about the risk these lifeline networks pose to the people, to their habitat and to the critical infrastructures, especially in view of natural disasters such as earthquakes. This work presents an Integrated Pipeline Risk Management methodology (IPRM) for assessing the hazard associated with a natural gas pipeline failure due to natural or manmade disasters. IPRM aims to optimize the allocation of the available resources to countermeasures in order to minimize the impacts of pipeline failure to humans, the environment, the infrastructure and the economic activity. A proposed knapsack mathematical programming formulation is introduced that optimally selects the proper mitigation policies based on the estimated cost – benefit ratios. The proposed model is demonstrated with a small numerical example. The vulnerability analysis of these pipelines and the quantification of consequences from such failures can be useful for natural gas industries on deciding which mitigation measures to implement on the existing pipeline networks with the minimum cost in an acceptable level of hazard. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cost%20benefit%20analysis" title="cost benefit analysis">cost benefit analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knapsack%20problem" title=" knapsack problem"> knapsack problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20gas%20distribution%20network" title=" natural gas distribution network"> natural gas distribution network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=risk%20management" title=" risk management"> risk management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=risk%20mitigation" title=" risk mitigation"> risk mitigation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37784/chairussyuhur-arman-totti-tjiptosumirat-muhammad-gunawan-mastur-joko-priyono-baiq-tri-ratna-erawati" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37784.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">295</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> The Use of Building Energy Simulation Software in Case Studies: A Literature Review</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Ameen">Arman Ameen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mathias%20Cehlin"> Mathias Cehlin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The use of Building Energy Simulation (BES) software has increased in the last two decades, parallel to the development of increased computing power and easy to use software applications. This type of software is primarily used to simulate the energy use and the indoor environment for a building. The rapid development of these types of software has raised their level of user-friendliness, better parameter input options and the increased possibility of analysis, both for a single building component or an entire building. This, in turn, has led to many researchers utilizing BES software in their research in various degrees. The aim of this paper is to carry out a literature review concerning the use of the BES software IDA Indoor Climate and Energy (IDA ICE) in the scientific community. The focus of this paper will be specifically the use of the software for whole building energy simulation, number and types of articles and publications dates, the area of application, types of parameters used, the location of the studied building, type of building, type of analysis and solution methodology. Another aspect that is examined, which is of great interest, is the method of validations regarding the simulation results. The results show that there is an upgoing trend in the use of IDA ICE and that researchers use the software in their research in various degrees depending on case and aim of their research. The satisfactory level of validation of the simulations carried out in these articles varies depending on the type of article and type of analysis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20simulation" title="building simulation">building simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IDA%20ICE" title=" IDA ICE"> IDA ICE</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=literature%20review" title=" literature review"> literature review</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=validation" title=" validation"> validation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96357/the-use-of-building-energy-simulation-software-in-case-studies-a-literature-review" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96357.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">136</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">17</span> Experiments with Saggar Application in Traditional Indian Pottery</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Ovla">Arman Ovla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Satyaki%20Roy"> Satyaki Roy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shatrupa%20T.%20Roy"> Shatrupa T. The practice of crafts like pottery and terracotta has a long-standing history. Some of the oldest specimens of fine pottery were excavated from the ancient sites of Indus-valley settlements dating back to 4000 years. There are so many techniques and styles which have developed through time. Pottery with red clay and low firing is one of the oldest branches of ceramic which is still being made in India in large quantities. This study is based on field research carried out in two large pottery clusters. The traditional potters of Pahari in Rajasthan and Nizamabad in Uttar Pradesh are baking pots with the help of saggar containers and creating products quite different from others. The potters of Prajapati community residing in both places have been engaged in the art of making pottery for ages. The knowledge of pottery and associated skills are passed on from one generation to the next. They use only the local material available in their vicinity and adapt the design and decorations to create an identity that is deeply rooted in their origins. For the purpose of this research, pure qualitative research methodology was followed with field visits and data collection from Pahari and Nizamabad. Observations and notes made from non-intrusive techniques and direct interview methods of existing potters residing in the region. This paper on Saggar pottery describes the tools and techniques, methods and materials, the firing process, and indigenous stylistic attributes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saggar" title="Saggar">Saggar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smoke%20firing" title=" smoke firing"> smoke firing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=black%20pottery" title=" black pottery"> black pottery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nizamabad" title=" Nizamabad"> Nizamabad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pahari" title=" Pahari"> Pahari</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161210/experiments-with-saggar-application-in-traditional-indian-pottery" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161210.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">78</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16</span> Hydrological Evaluation of Satellite Precipitation Products Using IHACRES Rainfall-Runoff Model over a Basin in Iran</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahmoud%20Zakeri%20Niri">Mahmoud Zakeri Niri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saber%20Moazami"> Saber Moazami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Abdollahipour"> Arman Abdollahipour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hossein%20Ghalkhani"> Hossein Ghalkhani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objective of this research is to hydrological evaluation of four widely-used satellite precipitation products named PERSIANN, TMPA-3B42V7, TMPA-3B42RT, and CMORPH over Zarinehrood basin in Iran. For this aim, at first, daily streamflow of Sarough-cahy river of Zarinehrood basin was simulated using IHACRES rainfall-runoff model with daily rain gauge and temperature as input data from 1988 to 2008. Then, the model was calibrated in two different periods through comparison the simulated discharge with the observed one at hydrometric stations. Moreover, in order to evaluate the performance of satellite precipitation products in streamflow simulation, the calibrated model was validated using daily satellite rainfall estimates from the period of 2003 to 2008. The obtained results indicated that TMPA-3B42V7 with CC of 0.69, RMSE of 5.93 mm/day, MAE of 4.76 mm/day, and RBias of -5.39% performs better simulation of streamflow than those PERSIANN and CMORPH over the study area. It is noteworthy that in Iran, the availability of ground measuring station data is very limited because of the sparse density of hydro-meteorological networks. On the other hand, large spatial and temporal variability of precipitations and lack of a reliable and extensive observing system are the most important challenges to rainfall analysis, flood prediction, and other hydrological applications in this country. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrological%20evaluation" title="hydrological evaluation">hydrological evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IHACRES" title=" IHACRES"> IHACRES</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=satellite%20precipitation%20product" title=" satellite precipitation product"> satellite precipitation product</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=streamflow%20simulation" title=" streamflow simulation"> streamflow simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40319/hydrological-evaluation-of-satellite-precipitation-products-using-ihacres-rainfall-runoff-model-over-a-basin-in-iran" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40319.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">241</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15</span> Effects of Particle Size Distribution on Mechanical Strength and Physical Properties in Engineered Quartz Stone</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Esra%20Arici">Esra Arici</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Duygu%20Olmez"> Duygu Olmez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Murat%20Ozkan"> Murat Ozkan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurcan%20Topcu"> Nurcan Topcu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Furkan%20Capraz"> Furkan Capraz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gokhan%20Deniz"> Gokhan Deniz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Altinyay"> Arman Altinyay</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Engineered quartz stone is a composite material comprising approximately 90 wt.% fine quartz aggregate with a variety of particle size ranges and `10 wt.% unsaturated polyester resin (UPR). In this study, the objective is to investigate the influence of particle size distribution on mechanical strength and physical properties of the engineered stone slabs. For this purpose, granular quartz with two particle size ranges of 63-200 µm and 100-300 µm were used individually and mixed with a difference in ratios of mixing. The void volume of each granular packing was measured in order to define the amount of filler; quartz powder with the size of less than 38 µm, and UPR required filling inter-particle spaces. Test slabs were prepared using vibration-compression under vacuum. The study reports that both impact strength and flexural strength of samples increased as the mix ratio of the particle size range of 63-200 µm increased. On the other hand, the values of water absorption rate, apparent density and abrasion resistance were not affected by the particle size distribution owing to vacuum compaction. It is found that increasing the mix ratio of the particle size range of 63-200 µm caused the higher porosity. This led to increasing in the amount of the binder paste needed. It is also observed that homogeneity in the slabs was improved with the particle size range of 63-200 µm. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=engineered%20quartz%20stone" title="engineered quartz stone">engineered quartz stone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fine%20quartz%20aggregate" title=" fine quartz aggregate"> fine quartz aggregate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=granular%20packing" title=" granular packing"> granular packing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20strength" title=" mechanical strength"> mechanical strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20size%20distribution" title=" particle size distribution"> particle size distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physical%20properties." title=" physical properties."> physical properties.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/110565/effects-of-particle-size-distribution-on-mechanical-strength-and-physical-properties-in-engineered-quartz-stone" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/110565.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">147</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> Views and Experiences of Medical Students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences on Facilitators and Inhibitators of Quality of Education in the Clinical Education System in 2021</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hossein%20Ghaedamini">Hossein Ghaedamini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salman%20Farahbakhsh"> Salman Farahbakhsh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alireza%20Amirbeigi"> Alireza Amirbeigi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zahra%20Saghafi"> Zahra Saghafi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salman%20Daneshi"> Salman Daneshi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alireza%20Ghaedamini"> Alireza Ghaedamini</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Assessing the challenges of clinical education of medical students is one of the most important and sensitive parts of medical education. The experiment was carried out at District AI Station. Four pluriparous cows and four nulliparous heifers were used in this study and they were housed in free stall barns. The heifers fed with corn silage supplemented with UMMB, while the cows fed with green fodder. All animals were given 500 mg cloprostenolum i.m. injections PGF2α twice, 11 days apart, to synchronize the occurrence of estrus. Estrus was detected by visual observation twice a day and determined if all cattle accepted mount from other females. All animals were inseminated twice with Bali sexed-semen at 72 and 76 h after observed oestrus. Results suggested that the percentage of calving rate either for pluriparous cows or nulliparous heifers were recorded to be 75 percent. One cow and one heifer did not produce calves because of embryonic lost. Regardless the sex of calves, the mean of birth weight of calves in cows was higher than that of heifers (18.50 ± 2.60 kg vs 13.83 ± 5.20 kg). One female calf from heifer with lower birth weight (8.0 kg) was dead one day after born. In pluriparous group, two cows delivered male calves and the other delivered female calf. Conversely in nulliparous group, two heifers delivered female calves and the other male calf. It is concluded that under the conditions of this preliminary trials, the sex ratio between pluriparous and nulliparous groups was found to be 50:50 (male:female). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20insemination" title="artificial insemination">artificial insemination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bali%20cattle" title=" bali cattle"> bali cattle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=calves" title=" calves"> calves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sexed%20sperm" title=" sexed sperm"> sexed sperm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40944/artificial-insemination-of-bali-cattle-with-frozen-thawed-sexed-sperm-under-district-ai-station-conditions-in-lombok-a-preliminary-trial" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40944.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">311</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Texture Characterization and Mineralogical Composition of the 1982-1983 Second Phase Galunggung Eruption, West Java Regency, Indonesia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Hanif%20Irsyada">M. This area is included in the Sunda Sunda arc formed by the tendency of the Australian oceanic plate to Eurasian continental plate. This research was conducted to determine the characteristics and document the mineralogical composition of the Galunggung eruption of the second phase 1982-1983. In fragment samples, petrographic analysis is carried out under a qualitative and quantitative polarizing microscope. This sample was obtained from the second phase eruption in the Cibanjanj formation. Based on the analysis results obtained filter texture characteristics, olivine parallel growth, lamellar structure, glass inclusion, plagioclase zonation and obtained special texture in the gabbroic cummulate. The mineral composition consists of phenocryst plagioclase (41vol%), pyroxene (26vol%), olivin (4vol%) and mineral opaque (29vol%). Microlite minerals consist of plagioclase (31.95vol%), pyroxene (12.09vol%), opaque minerals (55.96vol%). This research is expected to be developed by further researchers to be able to explain in more detail related to Galunggung mountain with 3 phases of eruption that are so intense. Also, it is expected to explain the structural characteristics and mineralogical composition that can be used to determine the origin of all the results of the Galunggung eruption 1982-1983. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Galunggung%20eruption" title="Galunggung eruption">Galunggung eruption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mineralogical%20composition" title=" mineralogical composition"> mineralogical composition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=texture%20characterization" title=" texture characterization"> texture characterization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gabbroic%20cumulate" title=" gabbroic cumulate"> gabbroic cumulate</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118356/texture-characterization-and-mineralogical-composition-of-the-1982-1983-second-phase-galunggung-eruption-west-java-regency-indonesia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118356.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">126</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11</span> Endoscopic Versus Open Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Postoperative Complications in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Kishan">Arman Kishan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mark%20Haft"> Mark Haft</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Steve%20Li"> Steve Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Duc%20Nguyen"> Duc Nguyen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dawn%20Laporte"> Dawn Laporte</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Objective: Patients with Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) often face higher postoperative complication rates. Limited data exist on outcomes in T2DM patients undergoing carpal tunnel release (CTR). This study aims to compare complication rates between endoscopic CTR (ECTR) and open CTR (OCTR) in patients with T2DM. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX database of 56741 patients with T2DM undergoing ECTR (N= 14,949) or OCTR (N= 41,792). Demographic data, medical comorbidities, and complication rates were analyzed. We used multivariable analysis to identify differences in postoperative complication rates between the two treatment methods in patients with T2DM. Results: Patients with T2DM undergoing ECTR had a significantly lower incidence of 90-day wound infection (p < 0.001), 90-day wound dehiscence (p < 0.001), and nerve injury (p < 0.001) when compared to patients who underwent OCTR. After matching, there was a significantly higher number of T2DM patients undergoing ECTR who had peripheral vascular disease (p = 0.045) and hypertension (p = 0.020) when compared to the OCTR group. These patients also had a lower incidence of fluid and electrolyte disorders (p = 0.002) and chronic blood loss anemia (p = 0.025). Conclusion: ECTR presents a superior choice for T2DM patients undergoing CTR, yielding significantly lower rates of wound infection, wound dehiscence, and nerve injury within 90 days post-surgery—reducing the risk by 31%, 48%, and 59%, respectively. These findings support the adoption of ECTR as the preferred method in this patient population, potentially leading to improved postoperative outcomes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=endoscopic%20treatment%20of%20carpal%20tunnel%20syndrome" title="endoscopic treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome">endoscopic treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=open%20treatment%20of%20carpal%20tunnel%20syndrome" title=" open treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome"> open treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carpal%20tunnel%20syndrome" title=" carpal tunnel syndrome"> carpal tunnel syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=postoperative%20complications%20in%20patients%20with%20diabetes%20mellitus" title=" postoperative complications in patients with diabetes mellitus"> postoperative complications in patients with diabetes mellitus</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170989/endoscopic-versus-open-treatment-of-carpal-tunnel-syndrome-postoperative-complications-in-patients-with-diabetes-mellitus" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170989.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">69</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">10</span> Landslide and Liquefaction Vulnerability Analysis Using Risk Assessment Analysis and Analytic Hierarchy Process Implication: Suitability of the New Capital of the Republic of Indonesia on Borneo Island </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rifaldy">Rifaldy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Misbahudin"> Misbahudin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khalid%20Rizky"> Khalid Rizky</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ricky%20Aryanto"> Ricky Aryanto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Alfiyan%20Bagus"> M. The parameters used in this analysis are the slope, land cover, lithology distribution, wetness index, earthquake data, peak ground acceleration. Weighted overlay was carried out from all these parameters using the percentage value obtained from the Analytical Hierarchy Process and confirmed its accuracy with a consistency ratio so that a percentage of the area obtained with different vulnerability classification values was obtained. Based on the analysis results obtained vulnerability classification from very high to low vulnerability. There are (0.15%) 918.40083 km² of highly vulnerable, medium (20.75%) 127,045,44815 km², low (56.54%) 346,175.886188 km², very low (22.56%) 138,127.484832 km². This research is expected to be able to map landslides and liquefaction disasters on the island of Kalimantan and provide consideration of the suitability of regional development of the new capital of the Republic of Indonesia. Also, this research is expected to provide input or can be applied to all regions that are analyzing the vulnerability of landslides and liquefaction or the suitability of the development of certain regions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analytic%20hierarchy%20process" title="analytic hierarchy process">analytic hierarchy process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Borneo%20Island" title=" Borneo Island"> Borneo Island</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=landslide%20and%20liquefaction" title=" landslide and liquefaction"> landslide and liquefaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vulnerability%20analysis" title=" vulnerability analysis "> vulnerability analysis </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118354/landslide-and-liquefaction-vulnerability-analysis-using-risk-assessment-analysis-and-analytic-hierarchy-process-implication-suitability-of-the-new-capital-of-the-republic-of-indonesia-on-borneo-island" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118354.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">176</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9</span> Endoscopic Versus Open Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Postoperative Complications in Patients on Anticoagulation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Kishan">Arman Kishan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mark%20Haft"> Mark Haft</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kiyanna%20Thomas"> Kiyanna Thomas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Duc%20Nguyen"> Duc Nguyen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dawn%20Laporte"> Dawn Laporte</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Objective: Patients receiving anticoagulation therapy frequently experience increased rates of postoperative complications. Presently, limited data exist regarding the outcomes of patients undergoing carpal tunnel release surgery (CTR) while on anticoagulation. Our objective is to examine and compare the occurrence of complications in patients on anticoagulation who underwent either endoscopic CTR (ECTR) or open CTR (OCTR) for CTS. Methods: The Trinet X database was utilized to retrospectively identify patients who underwent OCTR or ECTR while concurrently on anticoagulation. Demographic data, medical comorbidities, and complication rates were analyzed. We used multivariable analysis to identify differences in postoperative complications, including wound infection within 90 days, wound dehiscence within 90 days, and intraoperative median nerve injury between the two surgical methods in patients on anticoagulation. Results: A total of 10,919 carpal tunnel syndrome patients on anticoagulation were included in the study, with 9082 and 1837 undergoing OCTR and ECTR, respectively. Among patients on anticoagulation, those undergoing ECTR exhibited a significantly lower occurrence of 90-day wound infection (p < 0.001) and nerve injury (p < 0.001) compared to those who underwent OCTR. However, there was no statistically significant difference in the risk of 90-day wound dehiscence between the two groups (p = 0.323). Conclusion: In prior studies, ECTR demonstrated reduced rates of postoperative complications compared to OCTR in the general population. Our study demonstrates that among patients on anticoagulation, those undergoing ECTR experienced a significantly lower incidence of 90-day wound infection and nerve injury, with risk reductions of 35% and 40%, respectively. These findings support using ECTR as a preferred surgical method for patients with CTS who are on anticoagulation therapy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=endoscopic%20treatment%20of%20carpal%20tunnel%20syndrome" title="endoscopic treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome">endoscopic treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=open%20treatment%20of%20carpal%20tunnel%20syndrome" title=" open treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome"> open treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=postoperative%20complications%20in%20patients%20on%20anticoagulation" title=" postoperative complications in patients on anticoagulation"> postoperative complications in patients on anticoagulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carpal%20tunnel%20syndrome" title=" carpal tunnel syndrome"> carpal tunnel syndrome</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170988/endoscopic-versus-open-treatment-of-carpal-tunnel-syndrome-postoperative-complications-in-patients-on-anticoagulation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170988.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">68</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> Geological Engineering Mapping Approach to Know Factor of Safety Distribution and Its Implication to Landslide Potential at Muria Mountain, Kudus, Central Java Province, Indonesia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sony%20Hartono">Sony Hartono</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azka%20Decana"> Azka Decana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vilia%20Yohana"> Vilia Yohana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Annisa%20Luthfianihuda"> Annisa Luthfianihuda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuni%20Faizah"> Yuni Faizah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tati%20Andriani"> Tati Andriani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dewi%20Kania"> Dewi Kania</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fachri%20Zulfiqar"> Fachri Zulfiqar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sugiar%20Yusup"> Sugiar Yusup</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Nugraha"> Arman Nugraha </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Landslide is a geological hazard that is quite common in some areas in Indonesia and have disadvantages impact for public around. Due to the high frequency of landslides in Indonesia, and extensive damage, landslides should be specifically noted. Landslides caused by a soil or rock unit that has been in a state of unstable slopes and not in ideal state again, so the value of ground resistance or the rock been passed by the value of the forces acting on the slope. Based on this fact, authors held a geological engineering mapping at Muria Mountain, Kudus, Central Java province which is known as an agriculture and religion tourism area. This geological engineering mapping is performed to determine landslides potential at Muria Mountain. Slopes stability will be illustrated by a number called the “factor of safety” where the number can describe how much potential a slope to fall. Slopes stability can be different depending on the physical and mechanical characteristics of the soil and slope conditions. Testing of physical and mechanical characteristics of the soil conducted in the geotechnical laboratory. The characteristics of the soil must be same when sampled as well as in the test laboratory. To meet that requirement, authors used "undisturb sample" method that will be guarantee sample will not be distracted by environtment influences. From laboratory tests on soil physical and mechanical properties obtained characteristics of the soil on a slope, and then inserted into a Geological Information Software that would generate a value of factor of safety and give a visualization slope form area of research. Then, as a result of the study, obtained a map of the ground movement distribution map and i is implications for landslides potential areas. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=factor%20of%20safety" title="factor of safety">factor of safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geological%20engineering%20mapping" title=" geological engineering mapping"> geological engineering mapping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=landslides" title=" landslides"> landslides</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=slope%20stability" title=" slope stability"> slope stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soil" title=" soil "> soil </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59885/geological-engineering-mapping-approach-to-know-factor-of-safety-distribution-and-its-implication-to-landslide-potential-at-muria-mountain-kudus-central-java-province-indonesia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59885.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">419</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">7</span> Experimental Study of Sand-Silt Mixtures with Torsional and Flexural Resonant Column Tests</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meghdad%20Payan">Meghdad Payan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kostas%20Senetakis"> Kostas Senetakis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Khoshghalb"> Arman Khoshghalb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nasser%20Khalili"> Nasser Khalili</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Dynamic properties of soils, especially at the range of very small strains, are of particular interest in geotechnical engineering practice for characterization of the behavior of geo-structures subjected to a variety of stress states. This study reports on the small-strain dynamic properties of sand-silt mixtures with particular emphasis on the effect of non-plastic fines content on the small strain shear modulus (Gmax), Young’s Modulus (Emax), material damping (Ds,min) and Poisson’s Ratio (v). Several clean sands with a wide range of grain size characteristics and particle shape are mixed with variable percentages of a silica non-plastic silt as fines content. Prepared specimens of sand-silt mixtures at different initial void ratios are subjected to sequential torsional and flexural resonant column tests with elastic dynamic properties measured along an isotropic stress path up to 800 kPa. It is shown that while at low percentages of fines content, there is a significant difference between the dynamic properties of the various samples due to the different characteristics of the sand portion of the mixtures, this variance diminishes as the fines content increases and the soil behavior becomes mainly silt-dominant, rendering no significant influence of sand properties on the elastic dynamic parameters. Indeed, beyond a specific portion of fines content, around 20% to 30% typically denoted as threshold fines content, silt is controlling the behavior of the mixture. Using the experimental results, new expressions for the prediction of small-strain dynamic properties of sand-silt mixtures are developed accounting for the percentage of silt and the characteristics of the sand portion. These expressions are general in nature and are capable of evaluating the elastic dynamic properties of sand-silt mixtures with any types of parent sand in the whole range of silt percentage. The inefficiency of skeleton void ratio concept in the estimation of small-strain stiffness of sand-silt mixtures is also illustrated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20ratio" title="damping ratio">damping ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Poisson%E2%80%99s%20ratio" title=" Poisson’s ratio"> Poisson’s ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resonant%20column" title=" resonant column"> resonant column</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sand-silt%20mixture" title=" sand-silt mixture"> sand-silt mixture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20modulus" title=" shear modulus"> shear modulus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Young%E2%80%99s%20modulus" title=" Young’s modulus"> Young’s modulus</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75420/experimental-study-of-sand-silt-mixtures-with-torsional-and-flexural-resonant-column-tests" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75420.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">250</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Numerical Investigation of Indoor Environmental Quality in a Room Heated with Impinging Jet Ventilation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mathias%20Cehlin">Mathias Cehlin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Ameen"> Arman Ameen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ulf%20Larsson"> Ulf Larsson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taghi%20Karimipanah"> Taghi Karimipanah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The indoor environmental quality (IEQ) is increasingly recognized as a significant factor influencing the overall level of building occupants’ health, comfort and productivity. An air-conditioning and ventilation system is normally used to create and maintain good thermal comfort and indoor air quality. Providing occupant thermal comfort and well-being with minimized use of energy is the main purpose of heating, ventilating and air conditioning system. Among different types of ventilation systems, the most widely known and used ventilation systems are mixing ventilation (MV) and displacement ventilation (DV). Impinging jet ventilation (IJV) is a promising ventilation strategy developed in the beginning of 2000s. IJV has the advantage of supplying air downwards close to the floor with high momentum and thereby delivering fresh air further out in the room compare to DV. Operating in cooling mode, IJV systems can have higher ventilation effectiveness and heat removal effectiveness compared to MV, and therefore a higher energy efficiency. However, how is the performance of IJV when operating in heating mode? This paper presents the function of IJV in a typical office room for winter conditions (heating mode). In this paper, a validated CFD model, which uses the v2-f model is used for the prediction of air flow pattern, thermal comfort and air change effectiveness. The office room under consideration has the dimensions 4.2×3.6×2.5m, which can be designed like a single-person or two-person office. A number of important factors influencing in the room with IJV are studied. The considered parameters are: heating demand, number of occupants and supplied air conditions. A total of 6 simulation cases are carried out to investigate the effects of the considered parameters. Heat load in the room is contributed by occupants, computer and lighting. The model consists of one external wall including a window. The interaction effects of heat sources, supply air flow and down draught from the window result in a complex flow phenomenon. Preliminary results indicate that IJV can be used for heating of a typical office room. The IEQ seems to be suitable in the occupied region for the studied cases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
