The annual business meeting will take place on Saturday night.”

Following the 2022 ATS Annual Meeting, a survey was circulated for ATS members’ input.

“We appreciate our members taking the time to complete the survey and are grateful for their insights,” says Wells. “We have incorporated several of the suggestions for this year’s meeting and are looking at ways to address other mentioned ideas.”

Registration for the ETS meetings is available here. https://www.etsjets.org/registration_landing

Hotel reservations can be made by visiting this site. https://www.etsjets.org/hotel_information

ATS Social Media Making an Impact

By Sarah Burton

The social media engagement on the Adventist Theological Society (ATS) platforms is steadily increasing. Currently, there are over 2,100 followers on Instagram and 2,456 followers on Facebook. We have reached over 5,700 people on Facebook in the last month. Our Twitter following and engagement are increasing as well.

As our follower numbers have increased, so has users’ engagement in our posts. Several highlighted articles have generated lively online conversations and earnest questions.

The series “Sanctuary Colors in Ancient Egypt,” adapted from an article by L. S. Baker, Jr., was very popular on Facebook and Instagram, with posts reaching over 600 people. Most recently, the series on “Systematics in Adventist Theology,” adapted from an article by Fernando Canale, has received significant attention on all three of the ATS social media platforms, with several posts reaching over 1,300 people on Facebook alone.

A recent poll of our followers showed that they enjoy our series posts, in which entire the JATS and Perspective Digest articles are adapted into short-form content. Some of our followers have indicated that they have read the full-length original because of our posts. Last month, at least 100 people used the link in our Instagram bio to access the highlighted articles.

We have adopted a more streamlined approach to Instagram and Facebook posts, in which we alternate between reels and posts. This seems to be effective in maintaining reader interest. We will continue to draw quotes from articles for the reels and clips from our “Life with God” podcast, recent ATS presentations, and the Adventist Theological Academy.

On Twitter, we alternate between threads (a series of connected tweets) and single tweets. We are also experimenting with “Threads,” a Twitter-like app connected with Instagram.

We continue to look for ways to increase our readership and to connect followers with the resources ATS offers. More importantly, we strive to encourage our followers in their relationship with Christ and lead them to study the Bible more deeply.

Life With God Produces New Episodes

“Thanks to a significant collaborative effort between the Adventist Theological Society, professors, student panelists, and myself, Life With God has continued to produce episodes for the past year,” says Adelina Alexe, Life with God host. “Four more seasons will be posted on the ATS YouTube channel on Wednesdays at 8 PM Eastern time starting with the Fall of 2023: “God Is Beauty” (Season 4), “God Is Freedom” (Season 5), “God Is Justice” (Season 6), and “God Us Truth” (Season 7). “

Each season has twelve episodes and includes conversations with experts in various fields, such as theology, the Old Testament, the New Testament, missiology, philosophy, church history, anthropology, leadership, arts, and sciences.

Season 3 – God Is Power was posted several months ago and offers profound insights into issues of power: What is power? What powers does God have, and how does He use them? What powers do we have, and how do we negotiate the use of power in an interdependent world? What powers do evil beings have, and how are they limited by an omnipotent and omnibenevolent God? These are only a few broad aspects covered in this season, alongside many other questions of power.

“In Life With God, our approach to the topic reflects two basic assumptions: (1) the Judeo-Christian biblical view that God is the first and ultimate reality, and (2) a biblically-reframed view of ideas as standards of excellence rooted in God. By rooting key ideas in God, we reframe our understanding of the concepts while deepening our knowledge of God as we learn to see Him as an archetype of these ideas,” says Alexe. “Because we are God’s creatures meant to reflect His image, the manifestations of ideas in God also become a tangible standard for us to emulate. The process of being involved in such a growing experience is both beautiful and challenging. The closer we observe God, the brighter and purer He appears to us, and the farther we see ourselves from this ideal. This has been our collective experience for the host and producer, the panelists, and even our guests. Thus, we grow in character by beholding the wonders of an amazing God, even while the ideal always remains a moving target for us.”

The participants involved in the project have experienced both spiritual growth and relationship growth. “As we have spent time together creating conversation and wrestling with many questions, we’ve been drawn closer to God and to each other, learning to appreciate the diversity of perspectives while focusing on the One from whom this diversity proceeds and who holds it all together,” says Alexe. “We hope that our viewers will find this space as helpful as we did and that their experience of God will also be enriching and transformative.

ATS MEMBERS IN THE NEWS

Bible Conferences Feature ATS Members

Pastors from across the Inter-European Division attended two Bible conferences at the Adventist University of France in Collonges-sous-Salève, France, and Friedensau Adventist University, Germany.

Several ATS members made presentations during the conferences. Each week, the podcast explores the past and the present of the Adventist missionary enterprise.

Mission in West Africa

In West Africa, the Adventist presence pre-dates the first missionaries sent by the Adventist Church. This episode explores how this came about and the early history of the Seventh-day Adventist mission in West Africa. It brings out the importance of literature in spreading the Adventist message where missionaries had not yet gone, and the crucial role of indigenous believers in propagating the three angels' messages, but it also highlights the self-sacrificial commitment of missionaries to the region, who regularly suffered serious illnesses for which there was then no cure, and had a high death toll.

https://adventistreview.tv/programs/mission150?cid=3168667&permalink=m150-ep11

Early Missionaries to the Caribbean: Living Sacrifices

This episode explores the early Adventist mission to the Caribbean.

https://adventistreview.tv/programs/mission150?cid=3170235&permalink=m150-ep12

Opening the Mission in South Africa

Mission to South Africa began with diamonds! This is a book of theology—an accessible, thoughtful study of the God who is with us.
