<p>Librarians without Borders<sup style="font-size: 9px;"> SM</sup> was established in November 2005 to provide training in the field of information retrieval and library information assistance to people anywhere in the world, namely training in the use of computers used for library research and general training on how to effectively conduct research using a library. The initiative also helps provide medical information for healthcare personnel responding to epidemics and natural and man-made disasters anywhere in the world.</p> <ul><li> MLA believes that key elements in improved health for all peoples are the ability of each nation to strengthen and build health sciences information capacity through qualified health sciences librarians, implementation of supporting technological infrastructure, and access to quality information. </li> <li>MLA supports capacity building programs at the association, section, chapter, and individual member areas. </li> <li>MLA believes that building capacity will be most effective and long-lasting when partnerships are created with groups sharing similar goals, particularly partnerships with international agencies where shared goals intersect with available expertise and infrastructure. </li> </ul> <p>MLA works with the association's <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20080527083327/http://ics.mlanet.org/">International Cooperation Section (ICS)</a> on the Librarians without Borders<span style="font-weight: bold"><sup style="font-size: 9px"> SM</sup></span> initiative.
