In this work, terry and fleece fabrics were developed by varying the fiber content and areal density of fabrics. Further, the thermo-physical properties, including air permeability, water vapor permeability, and thermal resistance, of the developed fabrics were analyzed before and after washing. The multi-response optimization of thermo-physiological comfort properties was done by using principal component analysis (PCA) and Taguchi signal to noise ratio (PCA-S/N ratio) for optimal properties. It was found that the selected parameters resulted in a significant effect on thermo-physiological comfort properties of knitted fabrics. The PCA analysis showed that before wash, 100% cotton fabric with an aerial weight of 220 g.m⁻² gave optimum values of thermo-physiological comfort. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermo-physiological%20comfort" title="thermo-physiological comfort">thermo-physiological comfort</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fleece%20knitted%20fabric" title=" fleece knitted fabric"> fleece knitted fabric</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20permeability" title=" air permeability"> air permeability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20vapor%20transmission" title=" water vapor transmission"> water vapor transmission</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cotton%2Fpolyester" title=" cotton/polyester"> cotton/polyester</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147190/investigation-of-comfort-properties-of-knitted-fabrics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147190.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">117</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> The Effect of Dopamine D2 Receptor TAQ A1 Allele on Sprinter and Endurance Athlete </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%96znur%20%C3%96zge%20%C3%96zcan">Öznur Özge Özcan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Canan%20Sercan"> Canan Sercan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamza%20Kulaks%C4%B1z"> Hamza Kulaksız</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mesut%20Karahan"> Mesut Karahan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Korkut%20Ulucan"> Korkut Ulucan </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Genetic structure is very important to understand the brain dopamine system which is related to athletic performance. Hopefully, there will be enough studies about athletics performance in the terms of addiction-related genetic markers in the future. In the present study, we intended to investigate the Receptor-2 Gene (<em>DRD2</em>) rs1800497, which is related to brain dopaminergic system. 10 sprinter and 10 endurance athletes were enrolled in the study. Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction method was used for genotyping. According to results, A1A1, A1A2 and A2A2 genotypes in athletes were 0 (%0), 3 (%15) and 17 (%85). A1A1 genotype was not found and A2 allele was counted as the dominating allele in our cohort. These findings show that dopaminergic mechanism effects on sport genetic may be explained by the polygenic and multifactorial view. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=addiction" title="addiction">addiction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=athletic%20performance" title=" athletic performance"> athletic performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genotype" title=" genotype"> genotype</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sport%20genetics" title=" sport genetics"> sport genetics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88795/the-effect-of-dopamine-d2-receptor-taq-a1-allele-on-sprinter-and-endurance-athlete" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88795.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">213</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13</span> Synthesis of Cationic Bleach Activator for Textile Industry</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pelin%20Altay">Pelin Altay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20El-Shafei"> Ahmed El-Shafei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peter%20J.%20Hauser"> Peter J. Activated bleach systems have the potential to produce more efficient bleaching through increased oxidation rates with reducing energy cost, saving time and causing less fiber damage as compared to conventional hot peroxide bleaching. In this study, a cationic bleach activator was synthesized using caprolactam as a leaving group and triethylamine as a cationic group to establish an activated peroxide system for low temperature bleaching. Cationic bleach activator was characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR and mass spectrometry. The bleaching performance of the prototype cationic bleach activator was evaluated and optimizing the bleach recipe was performed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bleach%20activator" title="bleach activator">bleach activator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cotton%20bleaching" title=" cotton bleaching"> cotton bleaching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrogen%20peroxide%20bleaching" title=" hydrogen peroxide bleaching"> hydrogen peroxide bleaching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low%20temperature%20bleaching" title=" low temperature bleaching"> low temperature bleaching</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56078/synthesis-of-cationic-bleach-activator-for-textile-industry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56078.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">270</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Natural Radioactivity in Foods Consumed in Turkey</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=E.%20Kam">E. For this purpose, 48 different foods samples were collected from different land parcels throughout the country. All samples were analyzed to designate both gross alpha and gross beta radioactivities and the radionuclides&rsquo; concentrations. The gross alpha radioactivities were measured as below 1 Bq kg<sup>-1</sup> in most of the samples, some of them being due to the detection limit of the counting system. The gross beta radioactivity levels ranged from 1.8 Bq kg<sup>-1</sup> to 453 Bq kg<sup>-1</sup>, larger levels being observed in leguminous seeds while the highest level being in haricot bean. The concentrations of natural radionuclides in the foodstuffs were investigated by the method of gamma spectroscopy. High levels of <sup>40</sup>K were measured in all the samples, the highest activities being again in leguminous seeds. Low concentrations of <sup>238</sup>U and <sup>226</sup>Ra were found in some of the samples, which are comparable to the reported results in the literature. Based on the activity concentrations obtained in this study, average annual effective dose equivalents for the radionuclides <sup>226</sup>Ra, <sup>238</sup>U, and <sup>40</sup>K were calculated as 77.416 &micro;Sv y<sup>-1</sup>, 0.978 &micro;Sv y<sup>-1</sup>, and 140.55 &micro;Sv y<sup>-1</sup>, respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=foods" title="foods">foods</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radioactivity" title=" radioactivity"> radioactivity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gross%20alpha" title=" gross alpha"> gross alpha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gross%20beta" title=" gross beta"> gross beta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=annual%20equivalent%20dose" title=" annual equivalent dose"> annual equivalent dose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Turkey" title=" Turkey"> Turkey</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52059/natural-radioactivity-in-foods-consumed-in-turkey" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52059.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">454</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11</span> Optimum Design of Alkali Activated Slag Concretes for Low Chloride Ion Permeability and Water Absorption Capacity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M%C3%BCzeyyen%20Bal%C3%A7ikanli">Müzeyyen Balçikanli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erdo%C4%9Fan%20%C3%96zbay"> Erdoğan Özbay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hakan%20Tacettin%20T%C3%BCrker"> Hakan Tacettin Türker</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Okan%20Karahan"> Okan Karahan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cengiz%20Duran%20Ati%C5%9F"> Cengiz Duran Atiş</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this research, effect of curing time (TC), curing temperature (CT), sodium concentration (SC) and silicate modules (SM) on the compressive strength, chloride ion permeability, and water absorption capacity of alkali activated slag (AAS) concretes were investigated. For maximization of compressive strength while for minimization of chloride ion permeability and water absorption capacity of AAS concretes, best possible combination of CT, CTime, SC and SM were determined. An experimental program was conducted by using the central composite design method. Alkali solution-slag ratio was kept constant at 0.53 in all mixture. The effects of the independent parameters were characterized and analyzed by using statistically significant quadratic regression models on the measured properties (dependent parameters). The proposed regression models are valid for AAS concretes with the SC from 0.1% to 7.5%, SM from 0.4 to 3.2, CT from 20 &deg;C to 94 &deg;C and TC from 1.2 hours to 25 hours. The results of test and analysis indicate that the most effective parameter for the compressive strength, chloride ion permeability and water absorption capacity is the sodium concentration. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alkali%20activation" title="alkali activation">alkali activation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=slag" title=" slag"> slag</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rapid%20chloride%20permeability" title=" rapid chloride permeability"> rapid chloride permeability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20absorption%20capacity" title=" water absorption capacity"> water absorption capacity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54620/optimum-design-of-alkali-activated-slag-concretes-for-low-chloride-ion-permeability-and-water-absorption-capacity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54620.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">311</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">10</span> Urban Regeneration of Historic Paths: A Case Study of Kom El Dekka Historic Path</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20R.%20Ismail">Ahmed R. Every new development is tearing the old urban fabric and the socio-economic character of the historic paths. Furthermore, in some cases historic paths suffer from negligence and decay. Kom El Dekka historic path was one of those deteriorated paths in the city of Alexandria, Egypt, in spite of its high heritage and socio-economic value. Therefore, there was a need to develop urban regeneration strategies as a part of a wider sustainable development vision, to handle the situation and revitalize the path as a livable space in the heart of the city. This study aims to develop a comprehensive assessment methodology to evaluate the different values of the path and to create community-oriented and economic-based analysis methodology for its socio-economic values. These analysis and assessments provide strategies for any regeneration action plan for Kom El Dekka historic path. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=community-oriented" title="community-oriented">community-oriented</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic-based" title=" economic-based"> economic-based</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=syntactical%20analysis" title=" syntactical analysis"> syntactical analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20regeneration" title=" urban regeneration"> urban regeneration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37187/urban-regeneration-of-historic-paths-a-case-study-of-kom-el-dekka-historic-path" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37187.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">419</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9</span> A Polynomial Time Clustering Algorithm for Solving the Assignment Problem in the Vehicle Routing Problem</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lydia%20Wahid">Lydia Wahid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mona%20F.%20Ahmed"> Mona F. Each customer has a certain demand of goods. A central depot having a fleet of vehicles is responsible for supplying the customers with their demands. The problem is composed of two subproblems: The first subproblem is an assignment problem where the number of vehicles that will be used as well as the customers assigned to each vehicle are determined. The second subproblem is the routing problem in which for each vehicle having a number of customers assigned to it, the order of visits of the customers is determined. Optimal number of vehicles, as well as optimal total distance, should be achieved. In this paper, an approach for solving the first subproblem (the assignment problem) is presented. In the approach, a clustering algorithm is proposed for finding the optimal number of vehicles by grouping the customers into clusters where each cluster is visited by one vehicle. Finding the optimal number of clusters is NP-hard. This work presents a polynomial time clustering algorithm for finding the optimal number of clusters and solving the assignment problem. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vehicle%20routing%20problems" title="vehicle routing problems">vehicle routing problems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clustering%20algorithms" title=" clustering algorithms"> clustering algorithms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Clarke%20and%20Wright%20Saving%20Method" title=" Clarke and Wright Saving Method"> Clarke and Wright Saving Method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agglomerative%20hierarchical%20clustering" title=" agglomerative hierarchical clustering"> agglomerative hierarchical clustering</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85552/a-polynomial-time-clustering-algorithm-for-solving-the-assignment-problem-in-the-vehicle-routing-problem" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85552.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">393</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> Factors Affecting Residential Satisfaction in Low-Income Housing: Case Study of War College Housing in Gwarinpa Estate-Abuja, Nigeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdulmajeed%20Mustapha">Abdulmajeed Mustapha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Murat%20Sahin"> Murat Sahin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ebru%20Karahan"> Ebru Karahan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Low-income housing for poor people in urban areas is a global challenge, especially in developing countries. The quality of construction of mass housing is oftentimes compromised, thus resulting in a housing deficit, thereby affecting the residential satisfaction of users. This research analyses the various factors affecting residential satisfaction in War College Housing Estate, Abuja, Nigeria. These were investigated using parameters such as environmental characteristics and public amenities such as public benefits, safety/security, and sociodemographic characteristics. The study adopted a quantitative approach for the data gathering through literature reviews within the topic’s scope. The survey was conducted between April to May 2021 using a questionnaire form that was distributed to household members, onsite analysis within the selected housing project, and interviews with a few professionals within the field of this research. Data gathered from the survey and analysis on housing and sociodemographic characteristics, amongst others, were acquired through the means of interviews and site surveys of the selected Housing Estate. Findings from the various characteristics determining satisfaction revealed that residents had varying levels of satisfaction, ranging from a scale of satisfied to dissatisfied. It is recommended that the government come up with policies that will not only make the environment clean and safe but also make sure that the needs of the people who live there are taken into account. This will help the people who live there be more satisfied with their homes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=residential%20satisfaction" title="residential satisfaction">residential satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neighborhood%20satisfaction" title=" neighborhood satisfaction"> neighborhood satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low-income%20housing" title=" low-income housing"> low-income housing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=socio-demographic%20characteristics" title=" socio-demographic characteristics"> socio-demographic characteristics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nigeria" title=" Nigeria"> Nigeria</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150708/factors-affecting-residential-satisfaction-in-low-income-housing-case-study-of-war-college-housing-in-gwarinpa-estate-abuja-nigeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150708.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">96</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">7</span> The Low-Cost Design and 3D Printing of Structural Knee Orthotics for Athletic Knee Injury Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexander%20Hendricks">Alexander Hendricks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sean%20Nevin"> Sean Nevin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Clayton%20Wikoff"> Clayton Wikoff</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Melissa%20Dougherty"> Melissa Dougherty</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jacob%20Orlita"> Jacob Orlita</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rafiqul%20Noorani"> Rafiqul Noorani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Knee orthotics play an important role in aiding in the recovery of those with knee injuries, especially athletes. However, structural knee orthotics is often very expensive, ranging between $300 and $800. The primary reason for this project was to answer the question: can 3D printed orthotics represent a viable and cost-effective alternative to present structural knee orthotics? The primary objective for this research project was to design a knee orthotic for athletes with knee injuries for a low-cost under $100 and evaluate its effectiveness. The initial design for the orthotic was done in SolidWorks, a computer-aided design (CAD) software available at Loyola Marymount University. After this design was completed, finite element analysis (FEA) was utilized to understand how normal stresses placed upon the knee affected the orthotic. The knee orthotic was then adjusted and redesigned to meet a specified factor-of-safety of 3.25 based on the data gathered during FEA and literature sources. Once the FEA was completed and the orthotic was redesigned based from the data gathered, the next step was to move on to 3D-printing the first design of the knee brace. Subsequently, physical therapy movement trials were used to evaluate physical performance. Using the data from these movement trials, the CAD design of the brace was refined to accommodate the design requirements. The final goal of this research means to explore the possibility of replacing high-cost, outsourced knee orthotics with a readily available low-cost alternative. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20printing" title="3D printing">3D printing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knee%20orthotics" title=" knee orthotics"> knee orthotics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20analysis" title=" finite element analysis"> finite element analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20for%20additive%20manufacturing" title=" design for additive manufacturing"> design for additive manufacturing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97973/the-low-cost-design-and-3d-printing-of-structural-knee-orthotics-for-athletic-knee-injury-patients" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97973.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">181</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Web-Based Learning in Nursing: The Sample of Delivery Lesson Program</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Merve%20Kadio%C4%9Flu">Merve Kadioğlu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nevin%20H.%20%C5%9Eahin"> Nevin H. Patients with spontaneous SAH (as shown by CT or lumbar puncture) undergo investigations to identify or exclude an underlying structural cause, typically cerebral aneurysm. However in 10 - 20% of cases, no structural cause is found. This includes more than one imaging modality (intracranial MRA, CTA, 4DCTA and/or DSA) and in some spinal MRI. Objective: To determine; 1) If an underlying structural or vascular cause can be identified in non-aneurysmal SAH patients by comparing different imaging modalities at presentation and at follow-up. 2) If MRI spine in patients with non-aneurysmal SAH reveals an underlying SAH cause. 3)The functional outcome at discharge. Results: We performed a retrospective analysis of all non-traumatic SAH patients admitted to the Walton centre from January 2009 to December 2015. There were 1457 patients with non-traumatic SAH admitted to the Walton centre of whom 21.8% (n=300) patients were diagnosed with non-aneurysmal SAH. Males were 65.6% and females were 43.3%. The presenting symptoms were sudden onset headache (93.6%), the focal neurological deficit (12%), loss of consciousness (10.6%) and others (6%). About 285 patients received 2 modalities of imaging (CTA & DSA), 192 received 3 modalities of imaging (CTA, MRA & DSA) and 137 received MRI spine (51/137 whole spine). The modified Rankin Score at discharge were: mRS 0 = 292 (97.33%), mRS 1-2 = 6, mRS 6 = 1 (cardiac arrest in IHD patient) and unknown in 1. Follow-up imaging at 3 to 6 months in 190 (63.3%) patients did not identify an underlying cause. Conclusion: This retrospective analysis concludes that non-aneurysmal SAH has a good functional outcome. A single imaging modality (CTA (4DCTA) or MRA or DSA) was adequate to exclude an underlying cause of SAH and a delayed imaging failed to identify a cause. Routinely performing MRI spine in this group of patients appears not to be necessary according to this evidence. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stroke" title="stroke">stroke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-aneurysmal%20subarachnoid%20haemorrhage" title=" non-aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage"> non-aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neuroimaging" title=" neuroimaging"> neuroimaging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modified%20rankin%20score" title=" modified rankin score"> modified rankin score</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52339/clinical-and-radiological-outcome-in-300-patients-with-non-aneurysmal-sah" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52339.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">268</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Nutritional Supplement Usage among Disabled Athletes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aylin%20Hasbay%20B%C3%BCy%C3%BCkkarag%C3%B6z">Aylin Hasbay Büyükkaragöz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zehra%20B%C3%BCy%C3%BCktuncer"> Zehra Büyüktuncer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tu%C4%9F%C3%A7e%20Nur%20Balc%C4%B1"> Tuğçe Nur Balcı</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nevin%20Ergun"> Nevin Ergun</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: Nutritional supplement usage is widespread among athletes all over the world. However, the usage among disabled athletes is not well-known. This study aimed to evaluate dietary supplement use in disabled athletes, their motivation for consuming supplements, sources of information, and their side effect. Methods: A total of 75 Turkish National Team's disabled athletes (38 female, 37 male) from 5 sport branches (soccer, weight lifting, shooting, table tennis and basketball), aged 13- 55 years, were participated in the study. Nutritional supplement usage was inquired using a questionnaire by a dietitian at their preparation camps. Results: A total of 22.7% of the athletes (18.4% and 27% of, respectively females and males) used some type of dietary supplements. Protein (35.3%), amino acid (29.4%), carnitine (29.4%), creatine (23.5%) and glucosamine (23.5%) were mostly preferred nutritional supplements by all athletes. The most common supplements use was obtained among weightlifters (71.4%), followed by the athletes of soccer (23.5%), table tennis (15.4%), and basketball (6.7%). No nutritional supplement usage was observed among shooters. Total of 41.2% consumers declared more than one reason for taking nutritional supplements. The main motivation for supplement usage was improving athletic performance (63.5%). Other reasons were weight loss, weight gain, muscle development, health protection and nutritional support. Athletes were more likely to get recommendation about nutritional supplement usage from team coaches (48.9%). Of 35.6% athletes reported that they made their own decision about using supplements. Other information sources were health professional, family member, friend and sale manager of sport retail store. Only 3 of 17 athletes reported side effects which were increased urine output, weight gain, loss of appetite and intestinal gas. Conclusions: Nutritional supplement usage was not common among disabled athletes. However, getting information from incompetent sources is disquieting. Considering their health problems, accurate information from competent sources should be provided to disabled athletes. Moreover, long term effects of nutritional supplements among disabled athletes should be examined in further studies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disabled%20athletes" title="disabled athletes">disabled athletes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ergogenic%20aid" title=" ergogenic aid"> ergogenic aid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nutritional%20supplement" title=" nutritional supplement"> nutritional supplement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vitamin%20supplementation" title=" vitamin supplementation"> vitamin supplementation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44115/nutritional-supplement-usage-among-disabled-athletes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44115.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">324</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Risk of Disrupted Eating Attitudes in Disabled Athletes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zehra%20Buyuktuncer">Zehra Buyuktuncer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aylin%20H.%20B%C3%BCy%C3%BCkkarag%C3%B6z"> Aylin H. High prevalence of eating disorders among female athletes has been already reported. However, the risk of disordered eating among disabled athletes is not known. A better knowledge of the different eating behaviors and their prevalence in disabled athletes would be helpful to understand interactions between eating and health. This study aimed to examine the cognitive restraint, uncontrolled eating and emotional eating behaviors in a disabled athlete population. Method: A total of 70 disabled Turkish national athletes (33 female, 37 male) from 5 sport branches (soccer, weight lifting, shooting, table tennis and basketball) were involved in the study. The cognitive restraint, uncontrolled eating and emotional eating behaviors were assessed using the revised version of Three Factor Eating Questionnaire-R18 (TFEQ-R18). The questionnaires were conducted by dietitian during the preparation camps of athletes. Body weight, height and waist circumference (WC) were measured; and body composition was analyzed by bioelectrical impedance analysis method. Results: The TFEQ scales showed a cognitive dietary restraint score of 13.9±4.2, uncontrolled eating score of 17.7±5.8 and emotional eating score of 4.9±2.5. The mean score of total TFEQ-R18 was 36.5±8.62. Neither total TFEQ-R18 score nor subscale scores differed significantly by gender or sport branches (p>0.05, for each). The scores were also similar in BMI groups (n=63; p>0.05). Total TFEQ, uncontrolled eating and emotional eating scores were significantly higher among the athletes with congenital disabilities compared to the scores of the athletes with acquired disabilities (p<0.05, for each). Moreover, the cognitive dietary restraint score was significantly high in athletes who would like to lose weight (p=0.009). Conclusion: Disabled athletes might have a risk of disordered eating. The different eating behaviors among disabled athletes should be assessed using validated tools to develop personalized nutritional strategies for those athletes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disabled%20athletes" title="disabled athletes">disabled athletes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eating%20behaviour" title=" eating behaviour"> eating behaviour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=three-factor%20eating%20questionnaire-r18" title=" three-factor eating questionnaire-r18"> three-factor eating questionnaire-r18</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=body%20composition" title=" body composition"> body composition</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44114/risk-of-disrupted-eating-attitudes-in-disabled-athletes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44114.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">335</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> MARISTEM: A COST Action Focused on Stem Cells of Aquatic Invertebrates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arzu%20Karahan">Arzu Karahan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Loriano%20Ballarin"> Loriano Ballarin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Baruch%20Rinkevich"> Baruch Rinkevich</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Marine invertebrates, the highly diverse phyla of multicellular organisms, represent phenomena that are either not found or highly restricted in the vertebrates. These include phenomena like budding, fission, a fusion of ramets, and high regeneration power, such as the ability to create whole new organisms from either tiny parental fragment, many of which are controlled by totipotent, pluripotent, and multipotent stem cells. Thus, there is very much that can be learned from these organisms on the practical and evolutionary levels, further resembling Darwin's words, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change”. The ‘stem cell’ notion highlights a cell that has the ability to continuously divide and differentiate into various progenitors and daughter cells. In vertebrates, adult stem cells are rare cells defined as lineage-restricted (multipotent at best) with tissue or organ-specific activities that are located in defined niches and further regulate the machinery of homeostasis, repair, and regeneration. They are usually categorized by their morphology, tissue of origin, plasticity, and potency. The above description not always holds when comparing the vertebrates with marine invertebrates’ stem cells that display wider ranges of plasticity and diversity at the taxonomic and the cellular levels. While marine/aquatic invertebrates stem cells (MISC) have recently raised more scientific interest, the know-how is still behind the attraction they deserve. MISC, not only are highly potent but, in many cases, are abundant (e.g., 1/3 of the entire animal cells), do not locate in permanent niches, participates in delayed-aging and whole-body regeneration phenomena, the knowledge of which can be clinically relevant. Moreover, they have massive hidden potential for the discovery of new bioactive molecules that can be used for human health (antitumor, antimicrobial) and biotechnology. The MARISTEM COST action (Stem Cells of Marine/Aquatic Invertebrates: From Basic Research to Innovative Applications) aims to connect the European fragmented MISC community. Under this scientific umbrella, the action conceptualizes the idea for adult stem cells that do not share many properties with the vertebrates’ stem cells, organizes meetings, summer schools, and workshops, stimulating young researchers, supplying technical and adviser support via short-term scientific studies, making new bridges between the MISC community and biomedical disciplines. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aquatic%2Fmarine%20invertebrates" title="aquatic/marine invertebrates">aquatic/marine invertebrates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adult%20stem%20cell" title=" adult stem cell"> adult stem cell</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regeneration" title=" regeneration"> regeneration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20cultures" title=" cell cultures"> cell cultures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioactive%20molecules" title=" bioactive molecules"> bioactive molecules</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143573/maristem-a-cost-action-focused-on-stem-cells-of-aquatic-invertebrates" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143573.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Lifespan Assessment of the Fish Crossing System of Itaipu Power Plant (Brazil/Paraguay) Based on the Reaching of Its Sedimentological Equilibrium Computed by 3D Modeling and Churchill Trapping Efficiency</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anderson%20Braga%20Mendes">Anderson Braga Mendes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wallington%20Felipe%20de%20Almeida"> Wallington Felipe de Almeida</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cicero%20Medeiros%20da%20Silva"> Cicero Medeiros da Silva</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study aimed to assess the lifespan of the fish transposition system of the Itaipu Power Plant (Brazil/Paraguay) by using 3D hydrodynamic modeling and Churchill trapping effiency in order to identify the sedimentological equilibrium configuration in the main pond of the Piracema Channel, which is part of a 10 km hydraulic circuit that enables fish migration from downstream to upstream (and vice-versa) the Itaipu Dam, overcoming a 120 m water drop. For that, bottom data from 2002 (its opening year) and 2015 were collected and analyzed, besides bed material at 12 stations to the purpose of identifying their granulometric profiles. The Shields and Yalin and Karahan diagrams for initiation of motion of bed material were used to determine the critical bed shear stress for the sedimentological equilibrium state based on the sort of sediment (grain size) to be found at the bottom once the balance is reached. Such granulometry was inferred by analyzing the grosser material (fine and medium sands) which inflows the pond and deposits in its backwater zone, being adopted a range of diameters within the upper and lower limits of that sand stratification. The software Delft 3D was used in an attempt to compute the bed shear stress at every station under analysis. By modifying the input bathymetry of the main pond of the Piracema Channel so as to the computed bed shear stress at each station fell within the intervals of acceptable critical stresses simultaneously, it was possible to foresee the bed configuration of the main pond when the sedimentological equilibrium is reached. Under such condition, 97% of the whole pond capacity will be silted, and a shallow water course with depths ranging from 0.2 m to 1.5 m will be formed; in 2002, depths ranged from 2 m to 10 m. Out of that water path, the new bottom will be practically flat and covered by a layer of water 0.05 m thick. Thus, in the future the main pond of the Piracema Channel will lack its purpose of providing a resting place for migrating fish species, added to the fact that it may become an insurmountable barrier for medium and large sized specimens. Everything considered, it was estimated that its lifespan, from the year of its opening to the moment of the sedimentological equilibrium configuration, will be approximately 95 years–almost half of the computed lifespan of Itaipu Power Plant itself. However, it is worth mentioning that drawbacks concerning the silting in the main pond will start being noticed much earlier than such time interval owing to the reasons previously mentioned. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20hydrodynamic%20modeling" title="3D hydrodynamic modeling">3D hydrodynamic modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Churchill%20trapping%20efficiency" title=" Churchill trapping efficiency"> Churchill trapping efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fish%20crossing%20system" title=" fish crossing system"> fish crossing system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Itaipu%20power%20plant" title=" Itaipu power plant"> Itaipu power plant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lifespan" title=" lifespan"> lifespan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sedimentological%20equilibrium" title=" sedimentological equilibrium"> sedimentological equilibrium</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58862/lifespan-assessment-of-the-fish-crossing-system-of-itaipu-power-plant-brazilparaguay-based-on-the-reaching-of-its-sedimentological-equilibrium-computed-by-3d-modeling-and-churchill-trapping-efficiency" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58862.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">233</span> </span> </div> </div> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
