Interviews</h2><p>We are pleased to share with the DHQ community a series of interviews with journal founders, Julia Flanders, Melissa Terras, John Walsh, and Wendell Piez, discussing the journal鈥檚 creation, evolution, and their insights into the field of Digital Humanities.</p><p>You can now listen to all <a href="https://vimeo.com/user2840159" shape="rect">Founder Interviews available here</a></p><h2>Calls for Editors</h2><p>DHQ is recruiting for some new editorial positions in spring 2024 with the following calls for participation:</p><ul><li><a href="#accessibility" shape="rect">Accessibility Editor</a></li><li><a href="#book_reviews" shape="rect">Book and Tool Reviews Editor</a></li><li><a href="#languages" shape="rect">Languages Editor</a></li></ul><p>Please see the individual calls (listed below) for details about the specific roles and responsibilities of each position. All of these are volunteer positions within the DHQ editorial team, for an initial (renewable) term of three years. We typically have more than one editor in each role, so you would be working as part of a team.</p><p>If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions, please submit a one-page statement describing your interest in the position and your vision for how you would contribute to DHQ鈥檚 mission, along with a copy of your CV, <strong>by June 15, 2024</strong> (note new date). We are especially interested in recruiting a diverse editorial team, and in candidates who can contribute a global perspective on the DH field. We encourage applications from people working in all different capacities including staff, students, and faculty, within and outside the academy. Statements and CVs can be uploaded via <a href="https://forms.gle/1vU86wV9wu55pv9N9" shape="rect">Google form</a>. We鈥檒l follow up with candidates to schedule a short interview via Zoom.</p><h3 id="accessibility">Accessibility Editor</h3><p>The DHQ Web Accessibility Editor is a volunteer position within the DHQ editorial team, with responsibility for leading DHQ鈥檚 efforts to make the journal鈥檚 online presence accessible. DHQ鈥檚 articles are expressed in TEI/XML and published on the web using open-source XML tools. In the coming year, DHQ will be undertaking a comprehensive accessibility audit and update. The Accessibility Editors would lead this effort, working as part of the journal鈥檚 Collaborative Development team, and would have ongoing responsibility for ensuring that the journal follows best practices for accessibility as those evolve. Training or certification in web accessibility would be welcome but are not essential; we welcome all contributions of effort. </p><p>Responsibilities include:</p><ul><li>Serve as a source of expertise on accessibility within the journal鈥檚 editorial team, and contribute to strategic DHQ鈥檚 planning in this area</li><li>Develop policies and practices to improve accessibility, as part of the journal鈥檚 editorial workflow </li><li>Work with the production and development teams to make changes necessary to the journal鈥檚 XML data and publication systems to improve accessibility</li><li>Serve as a point of contact for questions about accessibility of DHQ articles and data</li></ul><h3 id="book_reviews">Book and Tool Reviews Editor</h3><p>The DHQ Book and Tool Reviews Editor is a volunteer position within the DHQ editorial team, with responsibility for recruiting and editing book and tool reviews to be published in DHQ. This position is part of a growing team of review editors focused on developing DHQ鈥檚 approaches to reviewing books and tools, recruiting new reviewers, and expanding DHQ鈥檚 review coverage of digital humanities books and tools.</p><p>Responsibilities include:</p><ul><li>Identify books and tools for review that are relevant to DHQ鈥檚 readership</li><li>Recruit reviewers and provide guidance on reviewing books and tools for DHQ</li><li>Develop and maintain review guidelines</li><li>Edit reviews and provide feedback to the review authors</li><li>Contribute to DHQ鈥檚 strategic planning to ensure that the journal鈥檚 coverage of books and tools is aligned with the journal鈥檚 mission and audience</li></ul><h3 id="languages">Languages Editor</h3><p>The DHQ Languages Editor is a volunteer position within the DHQ editorial team, with responsibility for overseeing DHQ鈥檚 handling of languages and translation activities. DHQ uses English as its core language, but authors submit articles in languages other than English and our readership spans a very wide range of languages. The journal also publishes special issues in other languages, and receives requests for permission to translate articles into other languages.
