do not be<MH3372a> afraid<MH3372a> to go<MH3381> down<MH3381> to Egypt<MH4714>, for I will make<MH7760> you into a great<MH1419> nation<MH1471> there<MH8033>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>I will go<MH3381> down<MH3381> with you to Egypt<MH4714>, and I will also<MH1571> assuredly<MH5927> bring<MH5927> you up<MH5927> again<MH3254>; and Joseph<MH3130> will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>close<MH7896, 3027> your eyes<MH5869>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then Jacob<MH3290> left<MH6965, 4480> Beersheba<MH884>, and the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> carried<MH5375> their father<MH1> Jacob<MH3290> and their little<MH2945> ones<MH2945> and their wives<MH802> in the wagons<MH5699> which<MH834> Pharaoh<MH6547> had sent<MH7971> to carry<MH5375> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>They also took<MH3947> their livestock<MH4735> and their possessions<MH7399>, which<MH834> they had acquired<MH7408> in the land<MH776> of Canaan<MH3667a>, and came<MH935> to Egypt<MH4714>, Jacob<MH3290> and all<MH3605> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>descendants<MH2233> with him: <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>his sons<MH1121> and his grandsons<MH1121> with him, his daughters<MH1323> and his granddaughters<MH1323, 1121>, and all<MH3605> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>descendants<MH2233> he brought<MH935> with him to Egypt<MH4714>. <p class="hdg">Those Who Came to Egypt</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now these<MH428> are the names<MH8034> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> who went<MH935> to Egypt<MH4714>, Jacob<MH3290> and his sons<MH1121>: Reuben<MH7205>, Jacob’s<MH3290> firstborn<MH1060>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Reuben<MH7205>: Hanoch<MH2585>, Pallu<MH6396>, Hezron<MH2696>, and Carmi<MH3756>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Simeon<MH8095>: <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Jemuel<MH3223>, Jamin<MH3226>, Ohad<MH161>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Jachin<MH3199>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>Zohar<MH6714>, and Shaul<MH7586> the son<MH1121> of a Canaanite<MH3669a> woman. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Levi<MH3878>: <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>Gershon<MH1648>, Kohath<MH6955>, and Merari<MH4847>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Judah<MH3063>: Er<MH6147>, Onan<MH209>, Shelah<MH7956>, Perez<MH6557>, and Zerah<MH2226> (but Er<MH6147> and Onan<MH209> died<MH4191> in the land<MH776> of Canaan<MH3667a>). And the sons<MH1121> of Perez<MH6557> were Hezron<MH2696> and Hamul<MH2538>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Issachar<MH3485>: Tola<MH8439a>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Puvvah<MH6312>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>Iob<MH3102>, and Shimron<MH8110b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Zebulun<MH2074>: Sered<MH5624>, Elon<MH356>, and Jahleel<MH3177>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>These<MH428> are the sons<MH1121> of Leah<MH3812>, whom<MH834> she bore<MH3205> to Jacob<MH3290> in Paddan-aram<MH6307>, with his daughter<MH1323> Dinah<MH1783>; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>all<MH3605> his sons<MH1121> and his daughters<MH1323> <i>numbered</i> thirty-three<MH7970, 7969>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Gad<MH1410>: <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>Ziphion<MH6837>, Haggi<MH2291>, Shuni<MH7764>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Ezbon<MH675>, Eri<MH6179>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>Arodi<MH722>, and Areli<MH692>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Asher<MH836>: Imnah<MH3232>, Ishvah<MH3438>, Ishvi<MH3440>, Beriah<MH1283>, and their sister<MH269> Serah<MH8294>. And the sons<MH1121> of Beriah<MH1283>: Heber<MH2268> and Malchiel<MH4439>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>These<MH428> are the sons<MH1121> of Zilpah<MH2153>, whom<MH834> Laban<MH3837a> gave<MH5414> to his daughter<MH1323> Leah<MH3812>; and she bore<MH3205> to Jacob<MH3290> these<MH428> sixteen<MH8337a, 6240> persons<MH5315>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>The sons<MH1121> of Jacob’s<MH3290> wife<MH802> Rachel<MH7354>: Joseph<MH3130> and Benjamin<MH1144>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Now to Joseph<MH3130> in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714> were born<MH3205> Manasseh<MH4519> and Ephraim<MH669>, whom<MH834> Asenath<MH621>, the daughter<MH1323> of Potiphera<MH6319>, priest<MH3548> of On<MH204>, bore<MH3205> to him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Benjamin<MH1144>: Bela<MH1106a>, Becher<MH1071>, Ashbel<MH788>, Gera<MH1617>, Naaman<MH5283>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Ehi<MH278>, Rosh<MH7220a>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>Muppim<MH4649>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>Huppim<MH2650>, and Ard<MH714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>These<MH428> are the sons<MH1121> of Rachel<MH7354>, who<MH834> were born<MH3205> to Jacob<MH3290>; <i>there were</i> fourteen<MH702, 6240> persons<MH5315> in all<MH3605>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Dan<MH1835>: <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>Hushim<MH2366b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Naphtali<MH5321>: <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>Jahzeel<MH3183>, Guni<MH1476>, Jezer<MH3337>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>Shillem<MH8006>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/46-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>These<MH428> are the sons<MH1121> of Bilhah<MH1090a>, whom<MH834> Laban<MH3837a> gave<MH5414> to his daughter<MH1323> Rachel<MH7354>, and she bore<MH3205> these<MH428> to Jacob<MH3290>;
