cellpadding="10"><tbody><tr><td valign="top"><h2>Honours and Medals</h2> <h3>Royal Medal</h3> <p>The <a href="https://royalsociety.org/awards/royal-medal/">Royal Medals</a> of the Royal Society, also known as the Queen's Medals, are awarded annually by the Sovereign on the recommendation of the Council of the Society. Three medals are awarded each year. One of the three for 1974 was awarded to Hoyle in recognition of his "distinguished contributions to theoretical physics and cosmology".
