In these games, the negotiation has two stages. In the first stage, players can only negotiate with others with whom they are compatible. In the second stage, the grand coalition will be formed. We introduce a value for these games. Given a game with a priori incompatibility (N,v,g), we consider the family of coalitions without incompatibility relations among their players. This family is a normal set system or coalition configuration Ig. Therefore, we can assign to each game with a priori incompatibilities (N,v,g) a game with coalition configuration (N,v, Ig). Now, in order to obtain a payoff vector for (N,v,g), it suffices to calculate a payoff vector for (N,v, Ig). To this end, we apply a value for games with coalition configuration. In our case, we will use the dual configuration value, which has been studied in the literature. With this method, we obtain a value for games with a priori incompatibilities, which is called the Owen value for a priori incompatibilities. We provide a characterization of this value. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cooperative%20game" title="cooperative game">cooperative game</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=game%20with%20coalition%20configuration" title=" game with coalition configuration"> game with coalition configuration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graph" title=" graph"> graph</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=independent%20set" title=" independent set"> independent set</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Owen%20value" title=" Owen value"> Owen value</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shapley%20value" title=" Shapley value"> Shapley value</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112957/an-owen-value-for-cooperative-games-with-pairwise-a-priori-incompatibilities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112957.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">131</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">587</span> Application of Digital Tools for Improving Learning</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20L.%20Jim%C3%A9nez">José L. Digital age students learn differently than their teachers did, so now the teacher should be constantly evolving their methods and teaching techniques to be more in touch with the student. In this paper a case study presents how were used some of these technologies by accompanying a classroom course, this in order to provide students with a different and innovative experience as their teacher usually presented the activities to develop. As students worked in the various activities, they increased their digital skills by employing unknown tools that helped them in their professional training. The twenty-first century teacher should consider the use of Information and Communication Technologies in the classroom thinking in skills that students of the digital age should possess. It also takes a brief look at the history of distance education and it is also highlighted the importance of integrating technology as part of the student's training. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20tools" title="digital tools">digital tools</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=on-line%20learning" title=" on-line learning"> on-line learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20networks" title=" social networks"> social networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology" title=" technology"> technology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17565/application-of-digital-tools-for-improving-learning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17565.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">403</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">586</span> Prevalence and Characteristics of Consumption of Nutraceuticals: The Case Study of Undergraduate Students of Medellin- Colombia, 2013</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gloria%20In%C3%A9s%20Mart%C3%ADnez%20Dom%C3%ADnguez">Gloria Inés Martínez Domínguez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lina%20Mar%C3%ADa%20Mart%C3%ADnez%20S%C3%A1nchez"> Lina María Martínez Sánchez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mar%C3%ADa%20de%20los%20%C3%81ngeles%20Rodr%C3%ADguez%20G%C3%A1zquez"> María de los Ángeles Rodríguez Gázquez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juan%20Guillermo%20Jim%C3%A9nez%20Jim%C3%A9nez"> Juan Guillermo Jiménez Jiménez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johan%20Sebasti%C3%A1n%20Lopera%20Valle"> Johan Sebastián Lopera Valle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Natalia%20Vargas%20Grisales"> Natalia Vargas Grisales</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Rojas%20Jim%C3%A9nez"> Sara Rojas Jiménez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alejandra%20Uribe%20Ocampo"> Alejandra Uribe Ocampo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Correa%20P%C3%A9rez"> Sara Correa Pérez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Natalia%20Perilla%20Hern%C3%A1ndez"> Natalia Perilla Hernández</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juan%20Sebasti%C3%A1n%20Mar%C3%ADn%20C%C3%A1rdenas"> Juan Sebastián Marín Cárdenas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The relationship between diet and chronic or degenerative diseases has led to the development of functional foods such as nutraceuticals. In the last two decades, the mounting concern of greenhouse gas emissions and the need for an efficient passive ventilation system have driven the development of new alternative passive technologies such as ventilated facades, trombe walls or solar chimneys. The objective of the study is the assessment of PCM panels in an in situ solar chimney for the establishment of a numerical model. The PCM integrated solar chimney shows slight performance improvement in terms of mass flow rate and external temperature and outlet temperature difference. An increase of 11.3659 m3/h can be observed during low wind speed periods. Additionally, the surface temperature across the chimney goes beyond 45 °C and allows the activation of PCM panels. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20storage" title="energy storage">energy storage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20ventilation" title=" natural ventilation"> natural ventilation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phase%20changing%20materials" title=" phase changing materials"> phase changing materials</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20chimney" title=" solar chimney"> solar chimney</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20energy" title=" solar energy"> solar energy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75922/numerical-and-experimental-assessment-of-a-pcm-integrated-solar-chimney" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75922.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">368</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">584</span> Intermodal Strategies for Redistribution of Agrifood Products in the EU: The Case of Vegetable Supply Chain from Southeast of Spain</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juan%20C.%20P%C3%A9rez-Mesa">Juan C. Jiménez-Guerrero</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Environmental cost and transport congestion on roads resulting from product distribution in Europe have to lead to the creation of various programs and studies seeking to reduce these negative impacts. In this regard, apart from other institutions, the European Commission (EC) has designed plans in recent years promoting a more sustainable transportation model in an attempt to ultimately shift traffic from the road to the sea by using intermodality to achieve a model rebalancing. This issue proves especially relevant in supply chains from peripheral areas of the continent, where the supply of certain agrifood products is high. In such cases, the most difficult challenge is managing perishable goods. This study focuses on new approaches that strengthen the modal shift, as well as the reduction of externalities. This problem is analyzed by attempting to promote intermodal system (truck and short sea shipping) for transport, taking as point of reference highly perishable products (vegetables) exported from southeast Spain, which is the leading supplier to Europe. Methodologically, this paper seeks to contribute to the literature by proposing a different and complementary approach to establish a comparison between intermodal and the “only road” alternative. For this purpose, the multicriteria decision is utilized in a p-median model (P-M) adapted to the transport of perishables and to a means of shipping selection problem, which must consider different variables: transit cost, including externalities, time, and frequency (including agile response time). This scheme avoids bias in decision-making processes. By observing the results, it can be seen that the influence of the externalities as drivers of the modal shift is reduced when transit time is introduced as a decision variable. These findings confirm that the general strategies, those of the EC, based on environmental benefits lose their capacity for implementation when they are applied to complex circumstances. In general, the different estimations reveal that, in the case of perishables, intermodality would be a secondary and viable option only for very specific destinations (for example, Hamburg and nearby locations, the area of influence of London, Paris, and the Netherlands). Based on this framework, the general outlook on this subject should be modified. Perhaps the government should promote specific business strategies based on new trends in the supply chain, not only on the reduction of externalities, and find new approaches that strengthen the modal shift. A possible option is to redefine ports, conceptualizing them as digitalized redistribution and coordination centers and not only as areas of cargo exchange. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20externalities" title="environmental externalities">environmental externalities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intermodal%20transport" title=" intermodal transport"> intermodal transport</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=perishable%20food" title=" perishable food"> perishable food</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transit%20time" title=" transit time"> transit time</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148707/intermodal-strategies-for-redistribution-of-agrifood-products-in-the-eu-the-case-of-vegetable-supply-chain-from-southeast-of-spain" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148707.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">98</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">583</span> Relocation of the Air Quality Monitoring Stations Network for Aburrá Valley Based on Local Climatic Zones</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carmen%20E.%20Zapata">Carmen E. These modifications provoke changes in the temperature distribution known as “the heat island effect”. According to this phenomenon, we have the need to conceive the urban planning based on climatological patterns that will assure its sustainable functioning, including the particularities of the climate variability. In the present study, it is identified the Local Climate Zones (LCZ) in the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley (Colombia) with the objective of relocate the air quality monitoring stations as a partial solution to the problem of how to measure representative air quality levels in a city for a local scale, but with instruments that measure in the microscale. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20quality" title="air quality">air quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=monitoring" title=" monitoring"> monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=local%20climatic%20zones" title=" local climatic zones"> local climatic zones</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=valley" title=" valley"> valley</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=monitoring%20stations" title=" monitoring stations"> monitoring stations</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49614/relocation-of-the-air-quality-monitoring-stations-network-for-aburra-valley-based-on-local-climatic-zones" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49614.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">272</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">582</span> Jurisprudencial Analysis of Torture in Spain and in the European Human Rights System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mar%C3%ADa%20Jos%C3%A9%20Ben%C3%ADtez%20Jim%C3%A9nez">María José Benítez Jiménez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Article 3 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (E.C.H.R.) proclaims that no one may be subjected to torture, punishment or degrading treatment. The legislative correlate in Spain is embodied in Article 15 of the Spanish Constitution, and there must be an overlapping interpretation of both precepts on the ideal plane. While it is true that there are not many cases in which the European Court of Human Rights (E.C.t.H.R. (The Strasbourg Court)) has sanctioned Spain for its failure to investigate complaints of torture, it must be emphasized that the tendency to violate Article 3 of the Convention appears to be on the rise, being necessary to know possible factors that may be affecting it. This paper addresses the analysis of sentences that directly or indirectly reveal the violation of Article 3 of the European Convention. To carry out the analysis, sentences of the Strasbourg Court have been consulted from 2012 to 2016, being able to address any previous sentences to this period if it provided justified information necessary for the study. After the review it becomes clear that there are two key groups of subjects that request a response to the Strasbourg Court on the understanding that they have been tortured or degradingly treated. These are: immigrants and terrorists. Both phenomena, immigration and terrorism, respond to patterns that have mutated in recent years, and it is important for this study to know if national regulations begin to be dysfunctional. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=E.C.H.R." title="E.C.H.R.">E.C.H.R.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=E.C.t.H.R.%20sentences" title=" E.C.t.H.R. sentences"> E.C.t.H.R. sentences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Spanish%20Constitution" title=" Spanish Constitution"> Spanish Constitution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=torture" title=" torture"> torture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84824/jurisprudencial-analysis-of-torture-in-spain-and-in-the-european-human-rights-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84824.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">160</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">581</span> Education for Sustainability Using PBL on an Engineering Course at the National University of Colombia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hern%C3%A1n%20G.%20Cort%C3%A9s-Mora">Hernán G. Firstly, we present a literature review on the education for sustainability field, emphasizing the skills and knowledge areas required for its development, as well as the commitment of the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and other engineering faculties of the country, regarding education for sustainability. This article covers the general aspects of the course, describes how students team were formed, and how their experience was during the first semester of 2017. During this period two groups of students decided to develop their course project aiming to solve a problem regarding a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works with head-of-household mothers in a low-income neighborhood in Bogota (Colombia). Subsequently, we show how sustainability is involved in the course, how tools are provided to students, and how activities are developed as to strengthen their abilities, which allows them to incorporate sustainability in their projects while also working on the methodology used to develop said projects. Finally, we introduce the results obtained by the students who sent the prototypes of their projects to the community they were working on and the conclusions reached by them regarding the course experience. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability" title="sustainability">sustainability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=project-based%20learning" title=" project-based learning"> project-based learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=engineering%20%20education" title=" engineering education"> engineering education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher%20education%20for%20sustainability" title=" higher education for sustainability"> higher education for sustainability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69628/education-for-sustainability-using-pbl-on-an-engineering-course-at-the-national-university-of-colombia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69628.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">352</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">580</span> Digitalization in Aggregate Quarries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Eugenio%20Ortiz">José Eugenio Ortiz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pierre%20Plaza"> Pierre Plaza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Josefa%20Herrero"> Josefa Herrero</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iv%C3%A1n%20Cabria"> Iván Cabria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Luis%20Blanco"> José Luis Blanco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Javier%20Gavilanes"> Javier Gavilanes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Ignacio%20Escavy"> José Ignacio Escavy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ignacio%20L%C3%B3pez-Cilla"> Ignacio López-Cilla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Virginia%20Yag%C3%BCe"> Virginia Yagüe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=C%C3%A9sar%20P%C3%A9rez"> César Pérez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Rodr%C3%ADguez"> Silvia Rodríguez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jorge%20Rico"> Jorge Rico</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Serrano"> Cecilia Serrano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jes%C3%BAs%20Bernat"> Jesús Bernat</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The development of Artificial Intelligence services in mining processes, specifically in aggregate quarries, is facilitating automation and improving numerous aspects of operations. The methodology used in this study has been a collection of information through Spanish official statistics from 2004 to 2016: population, police, judicial and penitentiary data from Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice and statistics National Institute. The data provided show that women victims and aggressors who come into contact with criminal intervention bodies for filing a complaint or having been reported, respectively, show a very high percentage, usually well above 50%, only primary studies or even that. Their employment situation is also precarious, in a percentage that could also be around 70%. The percentage distribution of these two variables is clearly above that which occurs in the whole of the Spanish population, in a particularly marked way as regards the employment situation. Immigrants triple, as victims or as aggressors of gender violence, the percentages of the Spanish population in terms of their contact with the organs of criminal intervention. Also the rate of foreign inmates in prisons for violence against the female couple doubles that of Spanish inmates. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inmigrants" title="inmigrants">inmigrants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intimate%20partner%20violence" title=" intimate partner violence"> intimate partner violence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Spain" title=" Spain"> Spain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sociodemographic%20characteristics" title=" sociodemographic characteristics"> sociodemographic characteristics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85163/study-on-the-characteristics-of-victims-and-victimizers-of-intimate-partner-violence-in-spain-and-its-impact-on-criminal-intervention" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85163.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">201</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">578</span> Out of Pocket Costs for Patients with Tuberculosis in Colombia: Evidence from Three Metropolitan Areas</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jose%20Hernandez">Jose Hernandez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lina%20Mart%C3%ADnez"> Lina Martínez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gustavo%20Gonzalez"> Gustavo Gonzalez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carlos%20L%C3%A1zaro"> Carlos Lázaro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Diana%20Castrillon"> Diana Castrillon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jonathan%20Cardona"> Jonathan Cardona</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laura%20Mej%C3%ADa"> Laura Mejía</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yina%20Sanchez"> Yina Sanchez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luisa%20Ochoa"> Luisa Ochoa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Evert%20Jimenez"> Evert Jimenez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Objectives: Economic analyses of tuberculosis control interventions are usually focused on the payer’s perspective. To assess the overall economic impact of the disease, out-of-pocket and indirect costs are also required. This research is aimed to estimate overall economic impact under DOTS-strategy (Directly Observed Therapy Short Course). Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 91 adult tuberculosis patients in treatment for at least two months was conducted from the society perspective. A standardized questionnaire was used in three different cities of Colombia: Medellin (poverty is 17.7%), Monteria (poverty is 36.9%) and Quibdó (poverty is 51.2%). Costs were converted to 2013 USD and categorized into two periods: diagnostics phase and treatment. Results: The median cost during diagnostics was 13$ (±SD 9.5). The median monthly patient out-of-pocket costs during treatment were 32$ (±SD 6.8), equivalent to 17% of patient’s median monthly income, estimated in 186$ (±SD 23). Costs recorded in Medellin were 47$ in Monteria was 18$ and in Quibdó was 13$. Conclusion: Patient costs under DOTS strategy are high even when services are provided free of charge. The creation or strengthening of community-based treatment supervisors could greatly impact costs of tuberculosis and lower drop-outs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tuberculosis" title="tuberculosis">tuberculosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=costs%20and%20cost%20analysis" title=" costs and cost analysis"> costs and cost analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20promotion" title=" health promotion"> health promotion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Colombia" title=" Colombia"> Colombia</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5825/out-of-pocket-costs-for-patients-with-tuberculosis-in-colombia-evidence-from-three-metropolitan-areas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5825.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">367</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">577</span> Antimicrobial Activity of Functionalized Alpaca Fabrics with Silver Nanoparticles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gina%20Zavaleta-Espejo">Gina Zavaleta-Espejo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Segundo%20R.%20J%C3%A1uregui-Rosas"> Segundo R. It has many special characteristics such as antiallergic, soft, hygroscopic, among others. In this sense, the research aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of alpaca fabrics functionalized with silver nanoparticles on the bacteria Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. For the functionalization of the fabrics, AgNO3 and different concentrations of trisodium citrate (TSC) 2, 6, and 10 mg. Tissue characterization was performed using Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The determination of the antimicrobial activity of the alpaca tissues was made by the Kirby-Bauer method with alpaca tissue discs functionalized with silver nanoparticles, an experimental design was made in completely randomized blocks with three treatments and a negative control with three repetitions. The results showed that inhibition halos were formed for both bacteria, therefore, the functionalized tissues have a high antimicrobial activity, whose mechanism of action is attributed to the free radicals (ROS) generated by the nanoparticles that cause oxidative damage to the bacteria. proteins and lipids of the bacterial cell wall. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antimicrobial" title="antimicrobial">antimicrobial</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=animal%20fibers" title=" animal fibers"> animal fibers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fabrics" title=" fabrics"> fabrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=functionalization" title=" functionalization"> functionalization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trisodium%20citrate" title=" trisodium citrate"> trisodium citrate</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149105/antimicrobial-activity-of-functionalized-alpaca-fabrics-with-silver-nanoparticles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149105.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">137</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">576</span> Technology in the Calculation of People Health Level: Design of a Computational Tool</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Herrero%20Ja%C3%A9n">Sara Herrero Jaén</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Mar%C3%ADa%20Santamar%C3%ADa%20Garc%C3%ADa"> José María Santamaría García</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mar%C3%ADa%20Lourdes%20Jim%C3%A9nez%20Rodr%C3%ADguez"> María Lourdes Jiménez Rodríguez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jorge%20Luis%20G%C3%B3mez%20Gonz%C3%A1lez"> Jorge Luis Gómez González</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adriana%20Cercas%20Duque"> Adriana Cercas Duque</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexandra%20Gonz%C3%A1lez%20Aguna"> Alexandra González Aguna</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Health concept has evolved throughout history. The health level is determined by the own individual perception. It is a dynamic process over time so that you can see variations from one moment to the next. In this way, knowing the health of the patients you care for, will facilitate decision making in the treatment of care. Objective: To design a technological tool that calculates the people health level in a sequential way over time. Material and Methods: Deductive methodology through text analysis, extraction and logical knowledge formalization and education with expert group. Studying time: September 2015- actually. Results: A computational tool for the use of health personnel has been designed. It has 11 variables. Each variable can be given a value from 1 to 5, with 1 being the minimum value and 5 being the maximum value. By adding the result of the 11 variables we obtain a magnitude in a certain time, the health level of the person. The health calculator allows to represent people health level at a time, establishing temporal cuts being useful to determine the evolution of the individual over time. Conclusion: The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) allow training and help in various disciplinary areas. It is important to highlight their relevance in the field of health. Based on the health formalization, care acts can be directed towards some of the propositional elements of the concept above. The care acts will modify the people health level. The health calculator allows the prioritization and prediction of different strategies of health care in hospital units. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=calculator" title="calculator">calculator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=care" title=" care"> care</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eHealth" title=" eHealth"> eHealth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health" title=" health"> health</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82489/technology-in-the-calculation-of-people-health-level-design-of-a-computational-tool" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82489.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">264</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">575</span> Prevalence of Human Papillomavirus in Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions and Cervical Cancer in Women of the North of Chihuahua, Mexico</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Estefania%20Ponce-Amaya">Estefania Ponce-Amaya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Lidia%20Arellano-Ortiz"> Ana Lidia Arellano-Ortiz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Diaz-Hernandez"> Cecilia Diaz-Hernandez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jose%20Alberto%20Lopez-Diaz"> Jose Alberto Lopez-Diaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Antonio%20De%20La%20Mora-Covarrubias"> Antonio De La Mora-Covarrubias</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudia%20Lucia%20Vargas-Requena"> Claudia Lucia Vargas-Requena</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mauricio%20Salcedo-Vargas"> Mauricio Salcedo-Vargas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Florinda%20Jimenez-Vega"> Florinda Jimenez-Vega </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cervical Cancer (CC) is the second leading cause of death among women worldwide and it had been associated with a persistent infection of human papillomavirus (HPV). The goal of the current study was to identify the prevalence of HPV infection in women with abnormal Pap smear who were attended at Dysplasia Clinic of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Methods: Cervical samples from 146 patients, who attended the Colposcopy Clinic at Sanitary Jurisdiction II of Cd Juarez, were collected for histopathology and molecular study. DNA was isolated for the HPV detection by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) using MY09/011 and GP5/6 primers. The associated risk factors were assessed by a questionnaire. The statistical analysis was performed by ANOVA, using EpiINFO V7 software. Results: HPV infection was present in 142 patients (97.3 %). The prevalence of HPV infection was distributed in a 96% of all evaluated groups, low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL), high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HISIL) and CC. We found a statistical significance (α = <0.05) between gestation and number of births as risk factors. The median values showed an ascending tend according with the lesion progression. However, CC showed a statistically significant difference with respect to the pre-carcinogenic stages. Conclusions: In these Mexican patients exists a high prevalence of HPV infection, and for that reason, we are studying the most prevalent HPV genotypes in this population. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cervical%20cancer" title="cervical cancer">cervical cancer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HPV" title=" HPV"> HPV</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=prevalence%20hpv" title=" prevalence hpv"> prevalence hpv</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=squamous%20intraepithelial%20lesion" title=" squamous intraepithelial lesion"> squamous intraepithelial lesion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79528/prevalence-of-human-papillomavirus-in-squamous-intraepithelial-lesions-and-cervical-cancer-in-women-of-the-north-of-chihuahua-mexico" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79528.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">320</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">574</span> Using Data from Foursquare Web Service to Represent the Commercial Activity of a City</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taras%20Agryzkov">Taras Agryzkov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Almudena%20Nolasco-Cirugeda"> Almudena Nolasco-Cirugeda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jose%20L.%20Oliver"> Jose L. The obtained visualisation provides information about activity patterns in the city of Murcia according to the people`s interests and preferences and, moreover, interesting facts about certain characteristics of the town itself. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20networks" title="social networks">social networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spatial%20analysis" title=" spatial analysis"> spatial analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20visualization" title=" data visualization"> data visualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geocomputation" title=" geocomputation"> geocomputation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Foursquare" title=" Foursquare"> Foursquare</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19260/using-data-from-foursquare-web-service-to-represent-the-commercial-activity-of-a-city" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19260.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">426</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">573</span> The Right to Family Reunification of Immigrants in Spain</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mar%C3%ADa%20Jos%C3%A9%20Benitez%20Jimenez">María José Benitez Jimenez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study seeks to make clear the importance of family reunification in order to establish consolidated habits of coexistence of immigrants, directly favoring the relationship of the family nucleus and indirectly the social integration of foreigners. In addition to the theoretical analysis of the subject, information has been reviewed by the National Institute of Statistics and Reports of Spanish organizations that compile data on immigrants and specifically on family reunification. The Spanish regulations on foreigners include the right of foreigners legally residing in Spain to regroup their families. The general conditions required to exercise this right are having legally resided in Spain for one year and having obtained authorization to reside for one more year. There are exceptions to the requirement of having resided for one year in our country. Article 39 of the Spanish Constitution, although it does not express what is to be understood as a family, does refer to the fact that ‘the public authorities ensure the social, economic and legal protection of the family’. Therefore for the Spanish State, the family institution, in a broad sense, enjoys a privileged treatment that is revealed in the Supreme Norm and that reflects the interest of our society to address the relationships that subjects have in their immediate environment. Although we are aware of the reluctant position of the Spanish Constitutional Court to consider as a fundamental right the right to family life despite being enshrined in Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, it is questionable whether access to authorization for family reunification should be more uniform in terms of requirements related to nationality, employment or training of applicants in order to have an egalitarian character. The requirement of having resided one year in Spain to be able to request successful family reunification seems dispensable because if foreigners can obviate this requirement by having a certain status, its abolition would be feasible by equating all situations and benefiting foreigners in general. The achievement of this proposal would help to strengthen the family life of immigrants from the beginning of their life in Spain. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=family" title="family">family</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immigrants" title=" immigrants"> immigrants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20integration" title=" social integration"> social integration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reunification" title=" reunification"> reunification</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85200/the-right-to-family-reunification-of-immigrants-in-spain" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85200.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">349</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">572</span> Clinical and Epidemiological Profile in Patients with Preeclampsia in a Private Institution in Medellin, Colombia 2015</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Camilo%20Andr%C3%A9s%20Agudelo%20V%C3%A9lez">Camilo Andrés Agudelo Vélez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lina%20Mar%C3%ADa%20Mart%C3%ADnez%20S%C3%A1nchez"> Lina María Martínez Sánchez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isabel%20Cristina%20Ortiz%20Trujillo"> Isabel Cristina Ortiz Trujillo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Evert%20Armando%20Jim%C3%A9nez%20Cotes"> Evert Armando Jiménez Cotes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Natalia%20Perilla%20Hern%C3%A1ndez"> Natalia Perilla Hernández</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mar%C3%ADa%20de%20los%20%C3%81ngeles%20Rodr%C3%ADguez%20G%C3%A1zquez"> María de los Ángeles Rodríguez Gázquez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniel%20Duque%20Restrepo"> Daniel Duque Restrepo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Felipe%20Hern%C3%A1ndez%20Restrepo"> Felipe Hernández Restrepo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dayana%20Andrea%20Quintero%20Moreno"> Dayana Andrea Quintero Moreno</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juan%20Jos%C3%A9%20Builes%20G%C3%B3mez"> Juan José Builes Gómez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Camilo%20Ruiz%20Mej%C3%ADa"> Camilo Ruiz Mejía</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Lucia%20Arango%20G%C3%B3mez"> Ana Lucia Arango Gómez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Preeclampsia is a clinical complication during pregnancy with high incidence in Colombia; therefore, it is important to evaluate the influence of external conditions and medical interventions, in order to promote measures that encourage improvements in the quality of life. Objective: Determine clinical and sociodemographic variables in women with preeclampsia. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 50 patients with the diagnosis of preeclampsia, from a private institution in Medellin, during 2015. We used the software SPSS ver.20 for statistical analysis. For the qualitative variables, we calculated the mean and standard deviation, while, for ordinal and nominal levels of quantitative variables, ratios were estimated. Results: The average age was 26.8±5.9 years. The predominant characteristics were socioeconomic stratum 2 (48%), students (55%), mixed race (46%) and middle school as level of education (38%). As for clinical features, 72% of the cases were mild preeclampsia, and 22% were severe forms. The most common clinical manifestations were edema (46%), headache (62%), and proteinuria (55%). As for the Gyneco-obstetric history, 8% reported previous episodes of this disease and it was the first pregnancy for 60% of the patients. Conclusions: Preeclampsia is a frequent condition in young women; on the other hand, headache and edema were the most common reasons for consultation, therefore, doctors need to be aware of these symptoms in pregnant women. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pre-eclampsia" title="pre-eclampsia">pre-eclampsia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hypertension" title=" hypertension"> hypertension</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pregnancy%20complications" title=" pregnancy complications"> pregnancy complications</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pregnancy" title=" pregnancy"> pregnancy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=abdominal" title=" abdominal"> abdominal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=edema" title=" edema"> edema</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46372/clinical-and-epidemiological-profile-in-patients-with-preeclampsia-in-a-private-institution-in-medellin-colombia-2015" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46372.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">364</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">571</span> Supply Chain Collaboration Comparison Practices between Developed and Developing Countries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Jose%20Granero%20Paris">Maria Jose Granero Paris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Isabel%20Jimenez%20Zarco"> Ana Isabel Jimenez Zarco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Agustin%20Pablo%20Alvarez%20Herranz"> Agustin Pablo Alvarez Herranz </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the industrial sector the collaboration along the supply chain is key especially in order to develop product, production methods or process innovations. The access to resources and knowledge not being available inside the company, the achievement of cost competitive solutions, the reduction of the time required to innovate are some of the benefits linked with the collaboration with suppliers. The big industrial manufacturers have a long tradition to collaborate with their suppliers to develop new products in the developed countries. Since they have increased their global supply chains and global sourcing activities, the objective of the research is to analyse if the same best practices, way of working, experiences, information technology tools, governance methodologies are applied when collaborating with suppliers in the developed world or in developing countries. Most of the current research focuses to analyse the Supply Chain Collaboration in the developed countries and in recent years the number of publications related to the Supply Chain Collaboration in developing countries has increased, but there is still a lack of research comparing both and analysing the similarities, differences and key success factors among the Supply Chain Collaboration practices in developed and developing countries. With this gap in mind, the research under preparation will focus on the following goals: -Identify the most important elements required for a successful supply chain collaboration in the developed and developing countries. -Set up the optimal governance framework to manage the supply chain collaboration in the developed and developing countries. -Define some recommendations about required improvements in the current supply chain collaboration business relationship practices in place. Following the case methodology we will analyze the way manufacturers and suppliers collaborate in the development of new products, production methods or process innovations and in the set up of new global supply chains in two industries with different level of technology intensity and collaboration history being the automotive and aerospace industries. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=global%20supply%20chain%20networks" title="global supply chain networks">global supply chain networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Supply%20Chain%20Collaboration" title=" Supply Chain Collaboration"> Supply Chain Collaboration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=supply%20chain%20governance" title=" supply chain governance"> supply chain governance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=supply%20chain%20performance" title=" supply chain performance"> supply chain performance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16130/supply-chain-collaboration-comparison-practices-between-developed-and-developing-countries" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16130.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">603</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">570</span> The Importance of Mental Health Literacy: Interventions in a Psychiatry Service of Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes, Portugal</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mariana%20Mangas">Mariana Mangas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yaroslava%20Martins"> Yaroslava Martins</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Charraz"> Ana Charraz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Matos%20Pires"> Ana Matos Pires</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Health literacy empowers people of knowledge, motivation and skills to access, understand, evaluate and mobilize information relating to health. Although the benefits of public knowledge of physical disease are widely accepted, knowledge about mental disorder has been compatibly neglected. Nowadays there is considerably evidence that literacy is of great importance for the promotion of health and prevention of mental illness. Objective: Disclosure the concept and importance of mental health literacy and introduce the literacy program of Psychiatry Service of Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes. Methodology: A search was conducted on PubMed, using keywords “literacy” and “mental health”. A description of mental health literacy interventions implemented on Psychiatry Service of Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes was performed, namely, psychoeducation programs for depression and bipolar disorder. Results and discussion: Health literacy enables patient to be able to actively participate in his treatment. The improving of mental health literacy can promote early identification of mental disorders, improve treatment results, increase the use of health services and allow the community to take action to achieve better mental health. Psychoeducation is very useful in improving the course of disease and in reducing the number of episodes and hospitalizations. Bipolar patients who received psychoeducation and pharmacotherapy have no relapses during the program and last year. Conclusion: Mental health literacy is not simply a matter of having knowledge, rather, it is knowledge linked to action which can benefit mental health. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mental%20health" title="mental health">mental health</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=literacy" title=" literacy"> literacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=psychoeducation" title=" psychoeducation"> psychoeducation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge" title=" knowledge"> knowledge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=empowerment" title=" empowerment"> empowerment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58750/the-importance-of-mental-health-literacy-interventions-in-a-psychiatry-service-of-hospital-jose-joaquim-fernandes-portugal" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58750.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">547</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">569</span> A Topological Study of an Urban Street Network and Its Use in Heritage Areas</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jose%20L.%20Oliver">Jose L. In the last decades, we find different kinds of approaches in the discipline of Architecture and Urbanism based in the so-called Sciences of Complexity. In this context, this paper uses mathematics from the Network Theory. Hence, it proposes a methodology based in obtaining information from a graph, which is created from a network of urban streets. Then, it is used an algorithm that establishes a ranking of importance of the nodes of that network, from its topological point of view. The results are applied to a heritage area in a particular city, confronting the data obtained from the mathematical model, with the ones from the field work in the case study. As a result of this process, we may conclude the necessity of implementing some actions in the area, and where those actions would be more effective for the whole heritage site. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graphs" title="graphs">graphs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heritage%20cities" title=" heritage cities"> heritage cities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spatial%20analysis" title=" spatial analysis"> spatial analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20networks" title=" urban networks"> urban networks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67220/a-topological-study-of-an-urban-street-network-and-its-use-in-heritage-areas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67220.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">397</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">568</span> Approach Based on Fuzzy C-Means for Band Selection in Hyperspectral Images</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Diego%20Saqui">Diego Saqui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20H.%20Saito"> José H. A problem in the use of these images is the high volume of data to be processed, stored and transferred. Dimensionality reduction techniques can be used to reduce the volume of data. In this paper, an approach to band selection based on clustering algorithms is presented. This approach allows to reduce the volume of data. The proposed structure is based on Fuzzy C-Means (or K-Means) and NWHFC algorithms. New attributes in relation to other studies in the literature, such as kurtosis and low correlation, are also considered. A comparison of the results of the approach using the Fuzzy C-Means and K-Means with different attributes is performed. The use of both algorithms show similar good results but, particularly when used attributes variance and kurtosis in the clustering process, however applicable in hyperspectral images. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=band%20selection" title="band selection">band selection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20c-means" title=" fuzzy c-means"> fuzzy c-means</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=k-means" title=" k-means"> k-means</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hyperspectral%20image" title=" hyperspectral image"> hyperspectral image</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50614/approach-based-on-fuzzy-c-means-for-band-selection-in-hyperspectral-images" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50614.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">408</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">567</span> Gender Differences in the Impact and Subjective Interpretation of Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T.%20Borja-Alvarez">T. This has resulted in less research looking at the particular context in which this abuse takes place for boys and the impact this abuse may have on male survivors. The aim of this study is to examine the sex and age of the perpetrators of child sexual abuse and explore gender differences in the impact along with the subjective interpretation that survivors attribute to these experiences. The data for this study was obtained from Ecuadorian university students (M = 230, F = 293) who reported sexual abuse using the ISPCAN Child Abuse Screening Tool Retrospective version (ICAST-R). Participants completed Horowitz's Impact of Event Scale (IES) and were also requested to choose among neutral, positive, and negative adjectives to describe these experiences. The results indicate that in the case of males, perpetrators were both males (adults =27%, peers =20%, relatives =10.3%, cousins =7.4%) and young females (girlfriends or ex-girlfriends =25.6%, neighborhood =20.7%, school =16.7%, cousins =15.3%, strangers =12.8%). In contrast, almost all females reported that adult males were the perpetrators (relatives =29.6%, neighborhood =11.9%, strangers =19.9%, family friends =9.7%). Regarding the impact of these events, significant gender differences emerged. More females (50%) than males (20%) presented symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Gender differences also surfaced in the way survivors interpret their experiences. Almost half of the male participants selected the word “consensual” followed by the words “normal”, “helped me to mature”, “shameful”, “confusing”, and “traumatic”. In contrast, almost all females chose the word “non-consensual” followed by the words “shameful”, “traumatic”, “scary”, and “confusing”. In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that young females and adult males were the most common perpetrators of sexually abused boys whereas adult males were the most common perpetrators of sexually abused girls. The impact and the subjective interpretation of these experiences were more negative for girls than for boys. The factors that account for the gender differences in the impact and the interpretation of these experiences need further exploration. It is likely that the cultural expectations of sexual behaviors for boys and girls in Latin American societies may partially explain the differential impact in the way these childhood sexual abuse experiences are interpreted in adulthood. In Ecuador, as is the case in other Latin American countries, the machismo culture not only accepts but encourages early sexual behaviors in boys and negatively judges premature sexual behavior in females. The result of these different sexual expectations may be that sexually abused boys may re-define these experiences as “consensual” and “normal” in adulthood, even though these were not consensual at the time of occurrence. Future studies are needed to more deeply understand the different contexts of sexual abuse for boys and girls in order to analyze the long-term impact of these experiences. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=abuse" title="abuse">abuse</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=child" title=" child"> child</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20differences" title=" gender differences"> gender differences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sexual" title=" sexual"> sexual</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145551/gender-differences-in-the-impact-and-subjective-interpretation-of-childhood-sexual-abuse-survivors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145551.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">104</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">566</span> Farming Production in Brazil: Innovation and Land-Sparing Effect</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isabela%20Romanha%20de%20Alcantara">Isabela Romanha de Alcantara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jose%20Eustaquio%20Ribeiro%20Vieira%20Filho"> Jose Eustaquio Ribeiro Vieira Filho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jose%20Garcia%20Gasques"> Jose Garcia Gasques</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Innovation and technology can be determinant factors to ensure agricultural and sustainable growth, as well as productivity gains. Technical change has contributed considerably to supply agricultural expansion in Brazil. This agricultural growth could be achieved by incorporating more land or capital. If capital is the main source of agricultural growth, it is possible to increase production per unit of land. The objective of this paper is to estimate: 1) total factor productivity (TFP), which is measured in terms of the rate of output per unit of input; and 2) the land-saving effect (LSE) that is the amount of land required in the case that yield rate is constant over time. According to this study, from 1990 to 2019, it appears that 87 percent of Brazilian agriculture product growth comes from the gains of productivity; the rest of 13 percent comes from input growth. In the same period, the total LSE was roughly 400 Mha, which corresponds to 47 percent of the national territory. These effects reflect the greater efficiency of using productive factors, whose technical change has allowed an increase in agricultural production based on productivity gains. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agriculture" title="agriculture">agriculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=land-saving%20effect" title=" land-saving effect"> land-saving effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=livestock" title=" livestock"> livestock</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=productivity" title=" productivity"> productivity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137802/farming-production-in-brazil-innovation-and-land-sparing-effect" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137802.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">231</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">565</span> Association of Dietary Intake with the Nutrition Knowledge, Food Label Use, and Food Preferences of Adults in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan, Philippines</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Barby%20Jennette%20A.%20Florano">Barby Jennette A. The aim of this study was to investigate whether nutrition knowledge, food label use, and food preference are associated with the dietary intake in a sample of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan (SJDM) adults. A sample of 148 adults, with a mean age of 20 years, completed a validated questionnaire related to their demographic, dietary intake, nutrition knowledge, food label use and food preference. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and there was no association between dietary intake and nutrition knowledge. However, there were positive relationships between dietary intake and food label use (r=0.1276, p<0.10), and dietary intake and food preference (r=0.1070, p<0.10). SJDM adults who use food label and have extensive food preference had better diet quality. This finding magnifies the role of nutrition education as a potential tool in health campaigns to promote healthy eating patterns and reading food labels among students and adults. Results of this study can give information for the design of future nutrition education intervention studies to assess the efficacy of nutrition knowledge and food label use among a similar sample population. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dietary%20intake" title="dietary intake">dietary intake</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nutrition%20knowledge" title=" nutrition knowledge"> nutrition knowledge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=food%20preference" title=" food preference"> food preference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=food%20label%20use" title=" food label use"> food label use</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/175413/association-of-dietary-intake-with-the-nutrition-knowledge-food-label-use-and-food-preferences-of-adults-in-san-jose-del-monte-city-bulacan-philippines" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/175413.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">91</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">564</span> Development of Technologies for the Treatment of Nutritional Problems in Primary Care</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marta%20Fern%C3%A1ndez%20Batalla">Marta Fernández Batalla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Mar%C3%ADa%20Santamar%C3%ADa%20Garc%C3%ADa"> José María Santamaría García</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Lourdes%20Jim%C3%A9nez%20Rodr%C3%ADguez"> Maria Lourdes Jiménez Rodríguez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Roberto%20Barchino%20Plata"> Roberto Barchino Plata</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adriana%20Cercas%20Duque"> Adriana Cercas Duque</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Enrique%20Monsalvo%20San%20Macario"> Enrique Monsalvo San Macario</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Primary Care Nursing is taking more autonomy in clinical decisions. One of the most frequent therapies to solve is related to the problems of maintaining a sufficient supply of food. Nursing diagnoses related to food are addressed by the nurse-family and community as the first responsible. Objectives and interventions are set according to each patient. To improve the goal setting and the treatment of these care problems, a technological tool is developed to help nurses. Objective: To evaluate the computational tool developed to support the clinical decision in feeding problems. Material and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out at the Meco Health Center, Madrid, Spain. The study population consisted of four specialist nurses in primary care. These nurses tested the tool on 30 people with ‘need for nutritional therapy’. Subsequently, the usability of the tool and the satisfaction of the professional were sought. Results: A simple and convenient computational tool is designed for use. It has 3 main entrance fields: age, size, sex. The tool returns the following information: BMI (Body Mass Index) and caloric consumed by the person. The next step is the caloric calculation depending on the activity. It is possible to propose a goal of BMI or weight to achieve. With this, the amount of calories to be consumed is proposed. After using the tool, it was determined that the tool calculated the BMI and calories correctly (in 100% of clinical cases). satisfaction on nutritional assessment was ‘satisfactory’ or ‘very satisfactory’, linked to the speed of operations. As a point of improvement, the options of ‘stress factor’ linked to weekly physical activity. Conclusion: Based on the results, it is clear that the computational tools of decision support are useful in the clinic. Nurses are not only consumers of computational tools, but can develop their own tools. These technological solutions improve the effectiveness of nutrition assessment and intervention. We are currently working on improvements such as the calculation of protein percentages as a function of protein percentages as a function of stress parameters. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feeding%20behavior%20health" title="feeding behavior health">feeding behavior health</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nutrition%20therapy" title=" nutrition therapy"> nutrition therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=primary%20care%20nursing" title=" primary care nursing"> primary care nursing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20assessment" title=" technology assessment"> technology assessment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82491/development-of-technologies-for-the-treatment-of-nutritional-problems-in-primary-care" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82491.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">227</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">563</span> Ecosystem Services Assessment for Urban Nature-Based Solutions Implemented in the Public Space: Case Study of Alhambra Square in Bogotá, Colombia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Diego%20S%C3%A1nchez">Diego Sánchez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sandra%20M.%20Aguilar"> Sandra M. The urban renovation project on the Alhambra square includes Green Infrastructure (GI), like Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) and Urban Trees (UT), as ecosystem services (ES) boosters. This study analyzes 3 scenarios: (1) the initial situation without NbS, (2) the expected situation including NbS in the design and (3) the projection of the second one after 30 years, calculating the ecosystem services, the stormwater management benefits provided by SUDS and the cultural services. The obtained results contribute to the understanding of the urban NbS benefits in public spaces, providing valuable information to foster investment in sustainable projects and encouraging policy makers to integrate NbS in urban planning. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ecosystem%20services" title="ecosystem services">ecosystem services</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nature-based%20solutions" title=" nature-based solutions"> nature-based solutions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stormwater%20management" title=" stormwater management"> stormwater management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20urban%20drainage%20systems" title=" sustainable urban drainage systems"> sustainable urban drainage systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151635/ecosystem-services-assessment-for-urban-nature-based-solutions-implemented-in-the-public-space-case-study-of-alhambra-square-in-bogota-colombia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151635.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">158</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">562</span> Visualizing the Commercial Activity of a City by Analyzing the Data Information in Layers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taras%20Agryzkov">Taras Agryzkov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jose%20L.%20Oliver"> Jose L. As it is well known, the Theory of Architecture and Urbanism has been using for decades’ intellectual tools based on the ‘sciences of complexity’ as a strategy to propose theoretical approaches about cities and about architecture. In this sense, it is possible to find a vast literature in which for instance network theory is used as an instrument to understand very diverse questions about cities: from their commercial activity to their heritage condition. The contribution of this research consists in adding one step of complexity to this process: instead of working with one single primal graph as it is usually done, we will show how new network models arise from the consideration of two different primal graphs interacting in two layers. When we model an urban network through a mathematical structure like a graph, the city is usually represented by a set of nodes and edges that reproduce its topology, with the data generated or extracted from the city embedded in it. All this information is normally displayed in a single layer. Here, we propose to separate the information in two layers so that we can evaluate the interaction between them. Besides, both layers may be composed of structures that do not have to coincide: from this bi-layer system, groups of interactions emerge, suggesting reflections and in consequence, possible actions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graphs" title="graphs">graphs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematics" title=" mathematics"> mathematics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=networks" title=" networks"> networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20studies" title=" urban studies"> urban studies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97085/visualizing-the-commercial-activity-of-a-city-by-analyzing-the-data-information-in-layers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97085.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">180</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">561</span> Phage Capsid for Efficient Delivery of Cytotoxic Drugs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Simona%20Dostalova">Simona Dostalova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dita%20Munzova"> Dita Munzova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Maria%20Jimenez%20Jimenez"> Ana Maria Jimenez Jimenez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marketa%20Vaculovicova"> Marketa Vaculovicova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vojtech%20Adam"> Vojtech Adam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rene%20Kizek"> Rene Kizek</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The boom of nanomedicine in recent years has led to the development of numerous new nanomaterials that can be used as nanocarriers in the drug delivery. These nanocarriers can either be synthetic or natural-based. The disadvantage of many synthetic nanocarriers is their toxicity in patient’s body. Protein cages that can naturally be found in human body do not exhibit such disadvantage. However, the release of cargo from some protein cages in target cells can be problematic. As a special type of protein cages can serve the capsid of many viruses, including phage. Phages infect bacterial cells; therefore they are not harmful to human cells. The targeting of phage particles to cancer cells can be solved by producing of empty phage capsids during which the targeting moieties (e.g. peptides) can be cloned into genes of phage capsid to decorate its surface. Moreover, the produced capsids do not contain viral nucleic acid and are therefore not infectious to beneficial bacteria in the patient’s body. The protein cage composed of viral capsid is larger than other frequently used apoferritin cage but its size is still small enough to benefit from passive targeting by Enhanced Permeability and Retention effect. In this work, bacteriophage λ was used, both whole and its empty capsid for delivery of different cytotoxic drugs (cisplatin, carboplatin, oxaliplatin, etoposide and doxorubicin). Large quantities of phage λ were obtained from phage λ-producing strain of E. coli cultivated in medium with 0.2 % maltose. After killing of E. coli with chloroform and its removal by centrifugation, the phage was concentrated by ultracentrifugation at 130 000 g and 4 °C for 3 h. The encapsulation of the drugs was performed by infusion method and four different concentrations of the drugs were encapsulated (200; 100; 50; 25 µg/ml). Free molecules of drugs were removed by dialysis. The encapsulation was verified using spectrophotometric and electrochemical methods. The amount of encapsulated drug linearly increased with the amount of applied drug (determination coefficient R2=0.8013). 76% of applied drug was encapsulated in phage λ particles (concentration of 10 µg/ml), even with the highest applied concentration of drugs, 200 µg/ml. Only 1% of encapsulated drug was detected in phage DNA. Similar results were obtained with encapsulation in phage empty capsid. Therefore, it can be concluded that the encapsulation of drugs into phage particles is efficient and mostly occurs by interaction of drugs with protein capsid. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cytostatics" title="cytostatics">cytostatics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drug%20delivery" title=" drug delivery"> drug delivery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanocarriers" title=" nanocarriers"> nanocarriers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phage%20capsid" title=" phage capsid"> phage capsid</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24931/phage-capsid-for-efficient-delivery-of-cytotoxic-drugs" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24931.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">494</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">560</span> Health Status Monitoring of COVID-19 Patient's through Blood Tests and Naïve-Bayes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carlos%20Arias-Alcaide">Carlos Arias-Alcaide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cristina%20Soguero-Ruiz"> Cristina Soguero-Ruiz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paloma%20Santos-%C3%81lvarez"> Paloma Santos-Álvarez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adri%C3%A1n%20Garc%C3%ADa-Romero"> Adrián García-Romero</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Inmaculada%20Mora-Jim%C3%A9nez"> Inmaculada Mora-Jiménez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Analysing clinical data with computers in such a way that have an impact on the practitioners’ workflow is a challenge nowadays.
