Therefore, when modal identification analysis is carried out the quality in the identification of the modes will highly influence the damage detection results. It is also widely recognized that the usefulness of the measured data used for modal identification and damage detection is significantly influenced by the number and locations of sensors. The objective of this study is the numerical implementation of two widely known optimum sensor placement methods in beam-like structures.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Optimum%20sensor%20placement" title="Optimum sensor placement">Optimum sensor placement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=structural%20damage%0D%0Adetection" title=" structural damage detection"> structural damage detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=modal%20identification" title=" modal identification"> modal identification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=beam-like%20structures." title=" beam-like structures."> beam-like structures.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/structural-damage-detection-using-sensors-optimally-located" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/9999581.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">2292</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Design, Development and Evaluation of a Portable Recording System to Capture Dynamic Presentations Using the Teacher麓s Tablet PC</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Enrique%20Barra">Enrique Barra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Abel%20Carril"> Abel Carril</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Aldo%20Gordillo"> Aldo Gordillo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Joaqu%C3%ADn%20Salvach%C3%BAa"> Joaqu铆n Salvach煤a</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Juan%20Quemada"> Juan Quemada</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p class="Abstract" style="text-indent:10.2pt"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">C</span>omputers and multimedia equipment have improved a lot in the last years. In particular, two main problems that it possesses: the apparition of spurious patterns in the learning phase, implying the well-known effect of storing the opposite pattern, and the problem of its reduced capacity, meaning that it is not possible to store a great amount of patterns without increasing the error probability in the retrieving phase. In this paper, a method to avoid spurious patterns is presented and studied, and an explanation of the previously mentioned effect is given. Another technique to increase the capacity of a network is proposed here, based on the idea of using several reference points when storing patterns. It is studied in depth, and an explicit formula for the capacity of the network with this technique is provided.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Associative%20memory" title="Associative memory">Associative memory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Hopfield%20network" title=" Hopfield network"> Hopfield network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=network%20capacity" title=" network capacity"> network capacity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=spurious%20patterns." title=" spurious patterns."> spurious patterns.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/hopfield-network-as-associative-memory-with-multiple-reference-points" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6850.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">1108</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">10</span> Application of Sensory Thermography on Workers of a Wireless Industry in Mexico</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Claudia%20Camargo">Claudia Camargo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Enrique%20J.%20de%20la%20Vega"> Enrique J. de la Vega</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Jes%C3%BAs%20E.%20Olgu%C3%ADn"> Jes煤s E. Although usually referred to as &rdquo;lotteries&rdquo;, there is evidence that some national teams and clubs consistently perform better than others. The outcomes are therefore not explained just by mere luck, and therefore there are ways to improve the average performance of players, naturally at the expense of some sort of effort. In this article we study the payoff of player performance improvements in terms of the performance of the team as a whole. To do so we develop an analytical model with static individual performances, as well as Monte Carlo models that take into account the known influence of partial score and round number on individual performances. We find that within a range of usual values, the team performance improves above 70% faster than individual performances do. Using these models, we also estimate that the new ABBA penalty shootout ordering under test reduces almost all the known bias in favor of the first-shooting team under the current ABAB system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Football" title="Football">Football</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=penalty%20shootouts" title=" penalty shootouts"> penalty shootouts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Montecarlo%20simulation" title=" Montecarlo simulation"> Montecarlo simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=ABBA." title=" ABBA."> ABBA.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/modeling-football-penalty-shootouts-how-improving-individual-performance-affects-team-performance-and-the-fairness-of-the-abab-sequence" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10010389.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">856</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> Availability of Sports Facilities does not explain the Association between Economic Environment and Physical Inactivity in a Southern European city</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Cruz%20Pascual">Cruz Pascual</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Enrique%20Regidor"> Enrique Regidor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Paloma%20Ortega"> Paloma Ortega</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=David%20Mart%C3%ADnez"> David Mart铆nez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Paloma%20Astasio"> Paloma Astasio</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper evaluates the association between economic environment in the districts of Madrid (Spain) and physical inactivity, using income per capita as indicator of economic environment. The analysis included 6,601 individuals aged 16 to 74 years. The measure of association estimated was the prevalence odds ratio for physical inactivity by income per capita. After adjusting for sex, age, and individual socioeconomic characteristics, people living in the districts with the lowest per capita income had an odds ratio for physical inactivity 1.58 times higher (95% confidence interval 1.35 to 1.85) than those living in districts with the highest per capita income. Additional adjustment for the availability of sports facilities in each district did not decrease the magnitude of the association. These findings show that the widely believed assumption that the availability of sports and recreational facilities, as a possible explanation for the relation between economic environment and physical inactivity, cannot be considered a universal observation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Economic%20environment" title="Economic environment">Economic environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=physical%20inactivity" title=" physical inactivity"> physical inactivity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=sports%0D%0Afacilities" title=" sports facilities"> sports facilities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=districts" title=" districts"> districts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Madrid" title=" Madrid"> Madrid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Spain" title=" Spain"> Spain</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/availability-of-sports-facilities-does-not-explain-the-association-between-economic-environment-and-physical-inactivity-in-a-southern-european-city" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/2302.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">1849</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">7</span> CoSP2P: A Component-Based Service Model for Peer-to-Peer Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Candido%20Alcaide">Candido Alcaide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Manuel%20D%C4%B1az"> Manuel D谋az</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Luis%20Llopis"> Luis Llopis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Antonio%20Marquez"> Antonio Marquez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Bartolome%20Rubio"> Bartolome Rubio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Enrique%20Soler"> Enrique Soler</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p>The increasing complexity of software development based on peer to peer networks makes necessary the creation of new frameworks in order to simplify the developer-s task. Additionally, some applications, e.g. fire detection or security alarms may require real-time constraints and the high level definition of these features eases the application development. In this paper, a service model based on a component model with real-time features is proposed. The high-level model will abstract developers from implementation tasks, such as discovery, communication, security or real-time requirements. The model is oriented to deploy services on small mobile devices, such as sensors, mobile phones and PDAs, where the computation is light-weight. Services can be composed among them by means of the port concept to form complex ad-hoc systems and their implementation is carried out using a component language called UM-RTCOM. In order to apply our proposals a fire detection application is described.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Peer-to-peer" title="Peer-to-peer">Peer-to-peer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=mobile%20systems" title=" mobile systems"> mobile systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=real-time" title=" real-time"> real-time</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=service-oriented%20architecture." title=" service-oriented architecture."> service-oriented architecture.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/cosp2p-a-component-based-service-model-for-peer-to-peer-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/5028.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">1684</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Development of Equivalent Inelastic Springs to Model C-Devices</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Oday%20Al-Mamoori">Oday Al-Mamoori</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=J.%20Enrique%20Martinez-Rueda"> J. Studies have shown that C-devices made of mild steel can be successfully applied as integral parts of seismic retrofitting schemes. However, explicit modelling of these devices can become cumbersome, expensive and time consuming. The device under study in this article has been previously used in non-invasive dissipative bracing for seismic retrofitting. The device is cut from a mild steel plate and has an overall shape that resembles that of a rectangular portal frame with circular interior corner transitions to avoid stress concentration and to control the extension of the dissipative region of the device. A number of inelastic finite element (FE) analyses using either inelastic 2D plane stress elements or inelastic fibre frame elements are reported and used to calibrate a 1D equivalent inelastic spring model that effectively reproduces the cyclic response of the device. The more elaborate FE model accounts for the frictional forces developed between the steel plate and the bolts used to connect the C-device to structural members. FE results also allow the visualization of the inelastic regions of the device where energy dissipation is expected to occur. FE analysis results are in a good agreement with experimental observations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=C-device" title="C-device">C-device</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=equivalent%20nonlinear%20spring" title=" equivalent nonlinear spring"> equivalent nonlinear spring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=FE%20analyses" title=" FE analyses"> FE analyses</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=reversed%20cyclic%20tests." title=" reversed cyclic tests. It focuses on livestock ranches and photovoltaic water-pumptechnology as well as other water extraction methods. The methodology used are the Sustainable Livelihoods and the Appropriate Technology approaches. A household survey was applied in June of 2006 to 32 ranches in the municipality, of which 22 used PV pumps; and semi-structured interviews were conducted. Findings indicate that solar pumps have in fact helped people improve their quality of life by allowing them to pursue a different livelihood strategy and that improved access to water -not necessarily as more water but as less effort to extract and collect it- does not automatically imply overexploitation of the resource; consumption is based on basic needs as well as on storage and pumping capacity. Justification for such systems lies in the avoidance of logistical problems associated to fossil fuels, PV pumps proved to be the most beneficial when substituting gasoline or diesel equipment but of dubious advantage if intended to replace wind or gravity systems. Solar water pumping technology-s main obstacle to dissemination are high investment and repairs costs and it is therefore not suitable for all cases even when insolation rates and water availability are adequate. In cases where affordability is not an obstacle it has become an important asset that contributes &ndash;by means of reduced expenses, less effort and saved time- to the improvement of livestock, the main livelihood provider for these ranches.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Solar%20Pumps" title="Solar Pumps">Solar Pumps</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Water%20Security" title=" Water Security"> Water Security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Livestock%20Ranches" title=" Livestock Ranches"> Livestock Ranches</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Sustainable%20Livelihoods." title="Sustainable Livelihoods.">Sustainable Livelihoods.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/water-security-in-rural-areas-through-solar-energy-in-baja-california-sur-mexico" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/15732.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">1573</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Computer-Assisted Piston-Driven Ventilator for Total Liquid Breathing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Miguel%20A.%20G%C3%B3mez">Miguel A. The computerized system demonstrated its ability to monitor in vivo lung mechanics, providing valuable data for early decision-making.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Immature%20lamb" title="Immature lamb">Immature lamb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=perfluorocarbon" title=" perfluorocarbon"> perfluorocarbon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=pressure-limited" title=" pressure-limited"> pressure-limited</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=total%20liquid%20ventilation" title=" total liquid ventilation"> total liquid ventilation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=ventilator" title=" ventilator"> ventilator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=volume-controlled." title=" volume-controlled."> volume-controlled.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/computer-assisted-piston-driven-ventilator-for-total-liquid-breathing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/6290.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">1803</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> A Literature Review on the Effect of Industrial Clusters and the Absorptive Capacity on Innovation </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Enrique%20Claver%20Cort%C3%A9s">Enrique Claver Cort茅s</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Bartolom%C3%A9%20Marco%20Lajara"> Bartolom茅 Marco Lajara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Eduardo%20S%C3%A1nchez%20Garc%C3%ADa"> Eduardo S谩nchez Garc铆a</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Pedro%20Seva%20Larrosa"> Pedro Seva Larrosa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Encarnaci%C3%B3n%20Manresa%20Marhuenda"> Encarnaci贸n Manresa Marhuenda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Lorena%20Ruiz%20Fern%C3%A1ndez"> Lorena Ruiz Fern谩ndez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Esther%20Poveda%20Pareja"> Esther Poveda Pareja</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p>In recent decades, the analysis of the effects of clustering as an essential factor for the development of innovations and the competitiveness of enterprises has raised great interest in different areas. Nowadays, companies have access to almost all tangible and intangible resources located and/or developed in any country in the world. However, despite the obvious advantages that this situation entails for companies, their geographical location has shown itself, increasingly clearly, to be a fundamental factor that positively influences their innovative performance and competitiveness. Industrial clusters could represent a unique level of analysis, positioned between the individual company and the industry, which makes them an ideal unit of analysis to determine the effects derived from company membership of a cluster. Also, the absorptive capacity (hereinafter &#39;AC&#39;) can mediate the process of innovation development by companies located in a cluster. The transformation and exploitation of knowledge could have a mediating effect between knowledge acquisition and innovative performance. The main objective of this work is to determine the key factors that affect the degree of generation and use of knowledge from the environment by companies and, consequently, their innovative performance and competitiveness. The elements analyzed are the companies&#39; membership of a cluster and the AC. To this end, 30 most relevant papers published on this subject in the &quot;Web of Science&quot; database have been reviewed. Our findings show that, within a cluster, the knowledge coming from the companies&#39; environment can significantly influence their innovative performance and competitiveness, although in this relationship, the degree of access and exploitation of the companies to this knowledge plays a fundamental role, which depends on a series of elements both internal and external to the company.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Absorptive%20capacity" title="Absorptive capacity">Absorptive capacity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=clusters" title=" clusters"> clusters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=innovation" title=" innovation"> innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=knowledge." title=" knowledge."> knowledge.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/a-literature-review-on-the-effect-of-industrial-clusters-and-the-absorptive-capacity-on-innovation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10011302.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">897</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Simulation and Optimization of Mechanisms made of Micro-molded Components</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Albert%20Albers">Albert Albers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Pablo%20Enrique%20Leslabay"> Pablo Enrique Leslabay</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Institute of Product Development is dealing with the development, design and dimensioning of micro components and systems as a member of the Collaborative Research Centre 499 鈥淒esign, Production and Quality Assurance of Molded micro components made of Metallic and Ceramic Materials". Because of technological restrictions in the miniaturization of conventional manufacturing techniques, shape and material deviations cannot be scaled down in the same proportion as the micro parts, rendering components with relatively wide tolerance fields. Systems that include such components should be designed with this particularity in mind, often requiring large clearance. On the end, the output of such systems results variable and prone to dynamical instability. To save production time and resources, every study of these effects should happen early in the product development process and base on computer simulation to avoid costly prototypes. A suitable method is proposed here and exemplary applied to a micro technology demonstrator developed by the CRC499. It consists of a one stage planetary gear train in a sun-planet-ring configuration, with input through the sun gear and output through the carrier. The simulation procedure relies on ordinary Multi Body Simulation methods and subsequently adds other techniques to further investigate details of the system-s behavior and to predict its response. The selection of the relevant parameters and output functions followed the engineering standards for regular sized gear trains. The first step is to quantify the variability and to reveal the most critical points of the system, performed through a whole-mechanism Sensitivity Analysis. Due to the lack of previous knowledge about the system-s behavior, different DOE methods involving small and large amount of experiments were selected to perform the SA. In this particular case the parameter space can be divided into two well defined groups, one of them containing the gear-s profile information and the other the components- spatial location. This has been exploited to explore the different DOE techniques more promptly. A reduced set of parameters is derived for further investigation and to feed the final optimization process, whether as optimization parameters or as external perturbation collective. The 10 most relevant perturbation factors and 4 to 6 prospective variable parameters are considered in a new, simplified model. All of the parameters are affected by the mentioned production variability. The objective functions of interest are based on scalar output-s variability measures, so the problem becomes an optimization under robustness and reliability constrains. The study shows an initial step on the development path of a method to design and optimize complex micro mechanisms composed of wide tolerated elements accounting for the robustness and reliability of the systems- output. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Micro%20molded%20components" title="Micro molded components">Micro molded
