Thus, the development models of apparel producers must focus on the integration of environmental aspects, based on sustainable growth. Conventional textile production is one of the most polluting industries on the planet. The World Bank estimates that the textile industry is responsible for as much as 20 percent of industrial pollution in our rivers and land. Environmental impacts occur throughout the production chain and most attention is paid to water consumption, chemical use, and waste and green house gas emissions. The textile industry has taken several initiatives to reduce its environmental impact and improve economic conditions. Global awareness of the real price of clothing is growing and there are increasing numbers of cases of people experiencing health problems such as rashes, allergies, respiratory and concentration problems due to chemical sensitivities. There has been a growing concern over apparel brands in improving their environmental impact and the economic responsibility throughout their supply chains. The first objective of this study is to establish in what extent the implementation of an environmental management system has an impact on organisational variables. The second objective is to identify the influence factors for the environmental management performance. The results of the study represent the base of some recommendations for the Romanian textile organisations so that they obtain as many advantages as possible from their strategy of sustainable development. We have used the survey method. The textile and garment industries cause environmental damage at every stage of manufacturing, from the cultivation of raw materials through the disposal of finished goods. Chemical loading, high water consumption, high energy consumption, air pollution, solid waste, and odour creation are all key environmental concerns in the textile industry. To achieve sustainable production, it is necessary to examine the performance of the textile sector while considering the three elements of sustainability. To study and locate recent and related works, five keywords were used: environmental; sustainability; eco-design; manufacturer; supply chain management. Today, we face vast ecological challenges, and for much pollution and many environmental damages caused, the textile and fashion industry is responsible. This research paper aims to summarize the critical problems of the industry from the perspective of a producer, introducing the problem with which this producer faces and the innovative solutions they strive to solve the matter in an environmentally aware way in cooperation with researchers and students. The authors also introduce their participation in one international academic project in which their student group was involved with their Photobook Project.
