So<MG3767> Jesus<MG2424>, tired<MG2872> from His journey<MG3597>, was just<MG3779> sitting<MG2516> by the well<MG4077>. It was about<MG5613> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>the sixth<MG1623> hour<MG5610>. <p class="hdg">The Woman of Samaria</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>A woman<MG1135> of Samaria<MG4540> *came<MG2064> to draw<MG501> water<MG5204>. Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to her, “Give<MG1325> Me a drink<MG4095>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For His disciples<MG3101> had gone<MG565> away<MG565> to the city<MG4172> to buy<MG59> food<MG5160>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>So<MG3767> the Samaritan<MG4542> woman<MG1135> *said<MG3004> to Him, “How<MG4459> <i>is it that</i> You, <i>though</i> You are a Jew<MG2453>, are asking<MG154> me for a drink<MG4095>, <i>though</i> I am<MG1510> a Samaritan<MG4542> woman<MG1135>?” (For Jews<MG2453> do<MG4798> not associate<MG4798> with<MG4798> Samaritans<MG4541>.) <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> replied<MG611, 3004> to her, “If<MG1487> you knew<MG3609a> the gift<MG1431> of God<MG2316>, and who<MG5101> it is who is saying<MG3004> to you, ‘Give<MG1325> Me a drink<MG4095>,’ you would have asked<MG154> Him, and He would have given<MG1325> you living<MG2198> water<MG5204>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>She *said<MG3004> to Him, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>Sir<MG2962>, You have<MG2192> no<MG3777> bucket<MG502> and the well<MG5421> is deep<MG901>; where<MG4159> then<MG3767> do You get<MG2192> <i>this</i> living<MG2198> water? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>You are not greater<MG3173> than our father<MG3962> Jacob<MG2384>, are You, who<MG3739> gave<MG1325> us the well<MG5421> and drank<MG4095> of it himself<MG846>, and his sons<MG5207> and his cattle<MG2353>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to her, “Everyone<MG3956> who drinks<MG4095> of this<MG3778> water<MG5204> will be<MG1372> thirsty<MG1372> again<MG3825>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>but whoever<MG3739, 302> drinks<MG4095> of the water<MG5204> that I will give<MG1325> him shall never<MG3756, 3361> be<MG1372> thirsty<MG1372>; but the water<MG5204> that I will give<MG1325> him will become<MG1096> in him a fountain<MG4077> of water<MG5204> springing<MG242> up<MG242> to eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>The woman<MG1135> *said<MG3004> to Him, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Sir<MG2962>, give<MG1325> me this<MG3778> water<MG5204> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> I will not be thirsty<MG1372>, nor<MG3366> come<MG1330> <i>all the way</i> here<MG1759a> to draw<MG501> <i>water.</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>He *said<MG3004> to her, “Go<MG5217>, call<MG5455> your husband<MG435> and come<MG2064> here<MG1759a>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>The woman<MG1135> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to Him, “I have<MG2192> no<MG3756> husband<MG435>.” Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to her, “You have correctly<MG2573> said<MG3004>, ‘I have<MG2192> no<MG3756> husband<MG435>’; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>for you have<MG2192> had<MG2192> five<MG4002> husbands<MG435>, and the one whom<MG3739> you now<MG3568> have<MG2192> is not your husband<MG435>; this<MG3778> <i>which</i> you have said<MG3004> <i>is</i> true<MG227>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>The woman<MG1135> *said<MG3004> to Him, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Sir<MG2962>, I perceive<MG2334> that You are a prophet<MG4396>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Our fathers<MG3962> worshiped<MG4352> on this<MG3778> mountain<MG3735>, and <i>yet</i> you <i>Jews</i> say<MG3004> that in Jerusalem<MG2414> is the place<MG5117> where<MG3699> one must<MG1163> worship<MG4352>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to her, “Believe<MG4100> Me, woman<MG1135>, that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>a time<MG5610> is coming<MG2064> when<MG3753> you will worship<MG4352> the Father<MG3962> neither<MG3777> on this<MG3778> mountain<MG3735> nor<MG3777> in Jerusalem<MG2414>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>You <i>Samaritans</i> worship<MG4352> what<MG3739> you do not know<MG3609a>; we worship<MG4352> what<MG3739> we do know<MG3609a>, because<MG3754> salvation<MG4991> is from the Jews<MG2453>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>a time<MG5610> is coming<MG2064>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>even now<MG3568> has arrived<MG1510>, when<MG3753> the true<MG228> worshipers<MG4353> will worship<MG4352> the Father<MG3962> in spirit<MG4151> and truth<MG225>; for such<MG5108> people<MG5108> the Father<MG3962> seeks<MG2212> <i>to be</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>His worshipers<MG4352>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>God<MG2316> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>spirit<MG4151>, and those<MG3588> who worship<MG4352> Him must<MG1163> worship<MG4352> in spirit<MG4151> and truth<MG225>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>The woman<MG1135> *said<MG3004> to Him, “I know<MG3609a> that Messiah<MG3323> is coming<MG2064> (He who is called<MG3004> Christ<MG5547>); when<MG3752> that<MG1565> One<MG1565> comes<MG2064>, He will declare<MG312> all<MG537a> things<MG537a> to us.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to her, “I am <i>He,</i> the One speaking<MG2980> to you.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And at this<MG3778> point<MG1909> His disciples<MG3101> came<MG2064>, and they were amazed<MG2296> that He had been speaking<MG2980> with a woman<MG1135>, yet<MG3305> no<MG3762> one<MG3762> said<MG3004>, “What<MG5101> are You seeking<MG2212>?” or<MG2228>, “Why<MG5101> are You speaking<MG2980> with her?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>So<MG3767> the woman<MG1135> left<MG863> her waterpot<MG5201> and went<MG565> into the city<MG4172>, and *said<MG3004> to the people<MG444>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>“Come<MG1205>, see<MG3708> a man<MG444> who<MG3739> told<MG3004> me all<MG3956> the things<MG3956> that I have done<MG4160>; this<MG3778> is not the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>Christ<MG5547>, is He?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>They left<MG1831> the city<MG4172> and were coming<MG2064> to Him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Meanwhile<MG1722, 3342> the disciples<MG3101> were urging<MG2065> Him, saying<MG3004>, “Rabbi<MG4461>, eat<MG2068> <i>something.</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>But He said<MG3004> to them, “I have<MG2192> food<MG1035> to eat<MG2068> that you do not know<MG3609a> about<MG3609a>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>So<MG3767> the disciples<MG3101> were saying<MG3004> to one<MG240> another<MG240>, “No<MG3361> one<MG5100> brought<MG5342> Him <i>anything</i> to eat<MG2068>, did he?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to them, “My food<MG1033> is to do<MG4160> the will<MG2307> of Him who sent<MG3992> Me, and to accomplish<MG5048> His work<MG2041>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Do you not say<MG3004>, ‘There are still<MG2089> four<MG5072> months<MG5072>, and <i>then</i> comes<MG2064> the harvest<MG2326>’? Behold<MG2400>, I tell<MG3004> you, raise<MG1869> your eyes<MG3788> and observe<MG2300> the fields<MG5561>, that they are white<MG3022> for harvest<MG2326>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Already<MG2235> the one who reaps<MG2325> is receiving<MG2983> wages<MG3408> and is gathering<MG4863> fruit<MG2590> for eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> the one who sows<MG4687> and the one who reaps<MG2325> may rejoice<MG5463> together<MG3674>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>For in this<MG3778> <i>case</i> the saying<MG3056> is true<MG228>: ‘One<MG243> sows<MG4687> and another<MG243> reaps<MG2325>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>I sent<MG649> you to reap<MG2325> that for which<MG3739> you have not labored<MG2872>; others<MG243> have labored<MG2872>, and you have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>come<MG1525> into<MG1525> their labor<MG2873>.” <p class="hdg">The Samaritans</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> from that city<MG4172> many<MG4183> of the Samaritans<MG4541> believed<MG4100> in Him because<MG1223> of the word<MG3056> of the woman<MG1135> who testified<MG3140>, “He told<MG3004> me all<MG3956> the things<MG3956> that I have done<MG4160>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>So<MG3767> when<MG5613> the Samaritans<MG4541> came<MG2064> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Jesus, they were asking<MG2065> Him to stay<MG3306> with them; and He stayed<MG3306> there<MG1563> two<MG1417> days<MG2250>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>Many<MG4183> more<MG4183> believed<MG4100> because<MG1223> of His word<MG3056>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>and they were saying<MG3004> to the woman<MG1135>, “<i>It is</i> no<MG3765> longer<MG3765> because<MG1223> of what<MG2981> you said<MG2981> <i>that</i> we believe<MG4100>, for we have heard<MG191> for ourselves<MG846> and know<MG3609a> that this<MG3778> One<MG3778> truly<MG230> is the Savior<MG4990> of the world<MG2889>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>And after<MG3326> the two<MG1417> days<MG2250>, He departed<MG1831> from<MG1564> there<MG1564> for Galilee<MG1056>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>For Jesus<MG2424> Himself<MG846> testified<MG3140> that a prophet<MG4396> has<MG2192> no<MG3756> honor<MG5092> in his own<MG2398> country<MG3968>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>So<MG3767> when<MG3753> He came<MG2064> to Galilee<MG1056>, the Galileans<MG1057> received<MG1209> Him, <i>only because</i> they had seen<MG3708> all<MG3956> the things<MG3956> that He did<MG4160> in Jerusalem<MG2414> at the feast<MG1859>; for they themselves<MG846> also<MG2532> went<MG2064> to the feast<MG1859>. <p class="hdg">Healing an Official’s Son</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> He came<MG2064> again<MG3825> to Cana<MG2580> of Galilee<MG1056>, where<MG3699> He had made<MG4160> the water<MG5204> <i>into</i> wine<MG3631>. And there was a royal<MG937> official<MG937> whose<MG3739> son<MG5207> was sick<MG770> at Capernaum<MG2746b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>When he heard<MG191> that Jesus<MG2424> had<MG2240> come<MG2240> from Judea<MG2449> into Galilee<MG1056>, he went<MG565> to Him and <i>began</i> asking<MG2065> <i>Him</i> to come<MG2597> down<MG2597> and heal<MG2390> his son<MG5207>; for he was<MG3195> at<MG3195> the<MG3195> point<MG3195> of<MG3195> death<MG599>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>Then<MG3767> Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to him, “Unless<MG1437, 3361> you <i>people</i> see<MG3708> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>signs<MG4592> and wonders<MG5059>, you <i>simply</i> will not believe<MG4100>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>The royal<MG937> official<MG937> *said<MG3004> to Him, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Sir<MG2962>, come<MG2597> down<MG2597> before<MG4250> my child<MG3813> dies<MG599>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to him, “Go<MG4198>; your son<MG5207> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>is<MG2198> alive<MG2198>.” The man<MG444> believed<MG4100> the word<MG3056> that Jesus<MG2424> spoke<MG3004> to him and went<MG4198> <i>home.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span>And as he was now<MG2235> going<MG2597> down<MG2597>, his slaves<MG1401> met<MG5221> him, saying<MG3004> that his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>son<MG3816> was<MG2198> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>alive<MG2198>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>So<MG3767> he inquired<MG4441> of them the hour<MG5610> when<MG1722, 3739> he began to get<MG2192> better<MG2866>.
