<span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>No<MG3780>, I tell<MG3004> you, but unless<MG1437, 3361> you repent<MG3340>, you will all<MG3956> likewise<MG5615> perish<MG622>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And He <i>began</i> telling<MG3004> this<MG3778> parable<MG3850b>: &#8220;A man<MG5100> had<MG2192> a fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808> which had been planted<MG5452> in his vineyard<MG290>; and he came<MG2064> looking<MG2212> for<MG2212> fruit<MG2590> on it and did not find<MG2147> <i>any.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And he said<MG3004> to the vineyard-keeper<MG289>, &#8216;Look<MG2400>! For three<MG5140> years<MG2094> I have come<MG2064> looking<MG2212> for<MG2212> fruit<MG2590> on this<MG3778> fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>without<MG2532, 3756> finding<MG2147> any. Cut<MG1581> it down<MG1581>! Why<MG2444> does it even<MG2532> use<MG2673> up<MG2673> the ground<MG1093>?&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>But he answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to him, &#8216;Sir<MG2962>, leave<MG863> it alone<MG863> for this<MG3778> year<MG2094> too<MG2532>, until<MG2193> I dig<MG4626> around<MG4012> it and put<MG906> in fertilizer<MG2874b>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>and if<MG2579> it bears<MG4160> fruit<MG2590> next<MG1519, 3195> <i>year, fine;</i> but if<MG1487> not, cut<MG1581> it down<MG1581>.&#8217;&#8221; <p class="hdg">Healing on the Sabbath</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> <i>Jesus</i> was teaching<MG1321> in one<MG1520> of the synagogues<MG4864> on the Sabbath<MG4521>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>there<MG2400> was a woman<MG1135> who for eighteen<MG1178a> years<MG2094> had had<MG2192> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>sickness<MG769> caused by a spirit<MG4151>; and she was bent<MG4794> over<MG4794> double<MG4794>, and could<MG1410> not straighten<MG352b> up<MG352b> at<MG3838> all<MG3838>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>When Jesus<MG2424> saw<MG3708> her, He called<MG4377> her over<MG4377> and said<MG3004> to her, &#8220;Woman<MG1135>, you are freed<MG630> from your sickness<MG769>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And He laid<MG2007> His hands<MG5495> on<MG2007> her; and immediately<MG3916> she stood<MG461> up<MG461> straight<MG461> again<MG461>, and <i>began</i> glorifying<MG1392> God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But the synagogue<MG752> leader<MG752>, indignant<MG23> because<MG3754> Jesus<MG2424> had healed<MG2323> on the Sabbath<MG4521>, <i>began</i> saying<MG3004> to the crowd<MG3793> in<MG611> response<MG611>, &#8220;There are six<MG1803> days<MG2250> during<MG1722> which<MG3739> work<MG2038b> should<MG1163> be done<MG2038b>; so<MG3767> come<MG2064> during<MG1722> them and get<MG2323> healed<MG2323>, and not on the Sabbath<MG4521> day<MG2250>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But the Lord<MG2962> answered<MG611> him and said<MG3004>, &#8220;You hypocrites<MG5273>, does each<MG1538> of you on the Sabbath<MG4521> not untie<MG3089> his ox<MG1016> or<MG2228> donkey<MG3688> from the stall<MG5336> and lead<MG520> it away<MG520> to water<MG4222> <i>it?</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And this<MG3778> woman<MG3778>, a daughter<MG2364> of Abraham<MG11> as she is, whom<MG3739> Satan<MG4567> has bound<MG1210> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>eighteen<MG1176, 3638> long<MG2400> years<MG2094>, should<MG1163> she not have been released<MG3089> from this<MG3778> restraint<MG1199> on the Sabbath<MG4521> day<MG2250>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And as He said<MG3004> this<MG3778>, all<MG3956> His opponents<MG480> were being <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>humiliated<MG2617b>; and the entire<MG3956> crowd<MG3793> was rejoicing<MG5463> over<MG1909> all<MG3956> the glorious<MG1741> things<MG1741> being<MG1096> done<MG1096> by Him. <p class="hdg">Parables of Mustard Seed and Leaven</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>So<MG3767> He was saying<MG3004>, &#8220;What<MG5101> is the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> like<MG3664>, and to what<MG5101> shall I compare<MG3666> it? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>It is like<MG3664> a mustard<MG4615> seed<MG2848>, which<MG3739> a man<MG444> took<MG2983> and threw<MG906> into his own<MG1438> garden<MG2779>; and it grew<MG837> and became<MG1096> a tree<MG1186>, and the birds<MG4071> of the sky<MG3772> nested<MG2681> in its branches<MG2798>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And again<MG3825> He said<MG3004>, &#8220;To what<MG5101> shall I compare<MG3666> the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>It is like<MG3664> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>leaven<MG2219>, which<MG3739> a woman<MG1135> took<MG2983> and hid<MG2928> in three<MG5140> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>sata<MG4568> of flour<MG224> until<MG2193> it was all<MG3650> leavened<MG2220>.&#8221; <p class="hdg">Teaching in the Villages</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And He was passing<MG1279> through<MG1279> one city<MG4172> and village<MG2968> after<MG2596> another<MG2596>, teaching<MG1321>, and proceeding<MG4160> on His way<MG4197> to Jerusalem<MG2414>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And someone<MG5100> said<MG3004> to Him, &#8220;Lord<MG2962>, are there <i>just</i> a few<MG3641> who are being saved<MG4982>?&#8221; And He said<MG3004> to them, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>&#8220;Strive<MG75> to enter<MG1525> through<MG1223> the narrow<MG4728> door<MG2374>; for many<MG4183>, I tell<MG3004> you, will seek<MG2212> to enter<MG1525> and will not be<MG2480> able<MG2480>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Once<MG575, 3739> the head<MG3617> of<MG3617> the<MG3617> house<MG3617> gets<MG1453> up<MG1453> and shuts<MG608> the door<MG2374>, and you begin<MG757> standing<MG2476> outside<MG1854> and knocking<MG2925> on the door<MG2374>, saying<MG3004>, &#8216;Lord<MG2962>, open<MG455> up<MG455> to us!&#8217; and He <i>then</i> will answer<MG611> and say<MG3004> to you, &#8216;I do not know<MG3609a> where<MG4159> you are from.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> you will begin<MG757> saying<MG3004>, &#8216;We ate<MG2068> and drank<MG4095> in<MG1799> Your presence<MG1799>, and You taught<MG1321> in our streets<MG4116>!&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And <i>yet</i> He will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>say<MG3004>, &#8216;I do not know<MG3609a> where<MG4159> you are from; LEAVE<MG868> ME, ALL<MG3956> YOU <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>EVILDOERS<MG2040, 93>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>In that place<MG1563> there<MG1510> will be weeping<MG2805> and gnashing<MG1030> of teeth<MG3599> when<MG3752> you see<MG3708> Abraham<MG11>, Isaac<MG2464>, Jacob<MG2384>, and all<MG3956> the prophets<MG4396> in the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>, but yourselves<MG4771> being thrown<MG1544b> out<MG1544b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And they will come<MG2240> from east<MG395> and west<MG1424>, and from north<MG1005> and south<MG3558>, and will recline<MG347> <i>at the table</i> in the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And behold<MG2400>, <i>some</i> are last<MG2078> who<MG3739> will be first<MG4413>, and <i>some</i> are first<MG4413> who<MG3739> will be last<MG2078>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>At that very<MG846> time<MG5610> some<MG5100> Pharisees<MG5330> approached<MG4334>, saying<MG3004> to Him, &#8220;Go<MG1831> away<MG1831> and leave<MG4198, 1782> this<MG1782> place<MG1782>, because<MG3754> Herod<MG2264> wants<MG2309> to kill<MG615> You.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;Go<MG4198> and tell<MG3004> that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>fox<MG258>, &#8216;Behold<MG2400>, I am casting<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> demons<MG1140> and performing<MG658> healings<MG2392> today<MG4594> and tomorrow<MG839>, and on the third<MG5154> <i>day</i> I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>reach<MG5048> My goal<MG5048>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Nevertheless<MG4133> I must<MG1163> go<MG4198> on My journey<MG4198> today<MG4594> and tomorrow<MG839> and the next<MG2192> <i>day;</i> for it cannot<MG1735, 3756> be<MG1735> that a prophet<MG4396> would perish<MG622> outside<MG1854> Jerusalem<MG2419>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>Jerusalem<MG2419>, Jerusalem<MG2419>, the <i>city</i> that kills<MG615> the prophets<MG4396> and stones<MG3036> those<MG3588> who have been sent<MG649> to her!
