During his short stay in the library he was accompanied by general director Tomáš Foltýn. They took a tour of the Klementinum´s Baroque Library and historical corridors along Křižovnická Street. However, the President spent most of his time in the Manuscripts and Early Printed Books Department, where around twenty rare historical documents from historical and Slavonic Library collections were prepared for him. The President is a collector of early prints with considerable expert knowledge, therefore the discussion about the exhibited documents with Tomáš Klimek, Director of Historical and Music Collections, and Lukáš Babka, Director of the Slavonic Library, was extremely cordial, natural and interesting, and Mr. Nausėda finally spent at the Klementinum more time than planned.

Photo: M. Its main objective is to help preserve Tibetan as a living language. The dictionary was launched by His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Main Tibetan Temple in Dharamsala on 27 May, 2022.

After the adjustment and cataloguing process, estimated to take about two weeks, the Tibetan donation will be placed in the Scholars´ Reading Room. It opens up the specific issue of its production with several insights from different viewpoints. The introductory essay briefly introduces the collection of the Music Department of the National Library in which the music in question is housed and its origins. The chapter entitled The Musical Life of 19th Century Prague as Reflected in the Locally Published Sheet Music presents the music repertoire that can be found in the period sheet music in confrontation with the knowledge of music historiography, while the associated text reveals how some educated musicians and culturally aware individuals of the 19th century viewed the composition of the printed repertoire. The other chapters deal with bibliological aspects and endeavour to cast light on the secrets of the used music-printing techniques, which developed rapidly during the period in question based on a wide range of experiments. These chapters will also acquaint the reader with the individuals who created and distributed the local sheet music, i.e. Prague’s book merchants, publishers, engravers, lithographers and printers. The treatises have been supplemented with reproductions of the sheet music and references to specific pieces of printed music, usually presented with more detailed comments in the final section of the publication, i.e. the catalogue of the exhibited sheet music.

National Library of the Czech Republic, Prague 2022, 1st edition, 107 p., 332 CZK
ISBN 978-80-7050-763-6

Where to buy or order >>

<dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
<dc:rights></dc:rights>
<dc:type>News Item</dc:type>

Book World Prague 2022

Join the National Library exhibition at the International Book Fair and Literary Festival Book World Prague 2022, June 9-12, 2022, Prague Exhibition Grounds - Holešovice.

International Book Fair and Literary Festival

9-12 June, 2022
Prague Exhibition Grounds - Holešovice

Guest of Honour: Italy

Motto: "We live for books.
