One of the risk factors of diabetes is an unhealthy diet which is consuming food that contains too much glucose, one of glucose sources presents in food containing carbohydrate. The purpose of this study is to identify the amount of glucose level in the consumed food. The authors use literature studies for this research method. For the results of this study, the authors expect diabetics to be more aware of diabetes by applying daily dietary regulation through D-Care. D-Care is an application that can enhance people awareness to diabetes in Indonesia. D-Care provides two menus; there are nutrition calculation and healthy food. Nutrition calculation menu is used for knowing estimated glucose intake level by calculating food that consumed each day. Whereas healthy food menu, it provides a combination of healthy food menu for diabetic. The conclusion is D-Care is useful to be used for reducing diabetes prevalence in Indonesia. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=D-Care" title="D-Care">D-Care</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diabetes" title=" diabetes"> diabetes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=awareness" title=" awareness"> awareness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=healthy%20food" title=" healthy food"> healthy food</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75889/d-care-diabetes-care-application-to-enhance-diabetic-awareness-to-diabetes-in-indonesia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75889.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">419</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> A Regional Innovation System Model Based on the Systems Thinking Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Samara%20E.">Samara E.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kilintzis%20P."> Kilintzis P.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katsoras%20E."> Katsoras E.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Martinidis%20G."> Martinidis G.</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Regions play an important role in the global economy by driving research and innovation policies through a major tool, the Regional Innovation System (RIS). A good accuracy is the basis of economic dispatch, unit commitment, and system reliability. A good load forecasting system fulfilled fast speed, automatic bad data detection, and ability to access the system automatically to get the needed data. In this paper, the formulation of the load forecasting is discussed and the solution is obtained by using artificial neural network method. A MATLAB environment has been used to solve the load forecasting schedule of Iraqi super grid network considering the daily load for three years. The development of Health Integrated Systems (HIS) is often seen as a crucial step in strengthening the integration of knowledge to help serve the information needs of health care users. As an emergent economy, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is regarded as a new arrival in the area of health information systems. As a new nation, there may be several challenges in terms of organisational climate and the sufficient skills and knowledge activities for effective use of HIS. In this regard, the lack of coordination, attitudes and practice of health-related systems can eventually result in unnecessary data and generally poor use of the system. This paper includes results from a qualitative preliminary study carried out from a case study investigation in a single large primary health care organisation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) comprising various health care users. The study explored health care user’s perceptions about health integration and the impact it has on their practice. The main sources of information were semi-structured interviews and non-obtrusive observations. The authors conclude by presenting various recommendations for the development of HIS and knowledge activities and areas for further study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20integrated%20systems" title="health integrated systems">health integrated systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge%20sharing" title=" knowledge sharing"> knowledge sharing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge%20activities" title=" knowledge activities"> knowledge activities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20information%20systems" title=" health information systems"> health information systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30947/integrating-knowledge-into-health-care-systems-a-case-study-investigation-on-uae-health-care" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30947.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">436</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9</span> CAM Use and Its Association with Quality of Life in a Sample of Lebanese Breast Cancer Patients: A Cross Sectional Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farah%20Naja">Farah Naja</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Romy%20Abi%20Fadel"> Romy Abi Fadel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasmin%20Aridi"> Yasmin Aridi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aya%20Zarif"> Aya Zarif</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dania%20Hariri"> Dania Hariri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Alameddine"> Mohammad Alameddine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anas%20Mugharbel"> Anas Mugharbel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maya%20Khalil"> Maya Khalil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zeina%20Nahleh"> Zeina Nahleh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arafat%20Tfayli"> Arafat Tfayli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objective of this study is to assess the prevalence and determinants of CAM use among breast cancer patients in Beirut, Lebanon. On that day, Saudi Arabia announced the decree on allowing Saudi women to drive. With the advent of vision 2030 and its goal to empower women and increase their participation in Saudi society, we see how Saudis’ Twitter users deliberate the 2017 decree from different social, cultural, religious, economic and political factors. This topic bridges social media 'Twitter,' gender and social-cultural studies to offer insights into how Saudis’ tweets reflect a broader discourse on Saudi women in the age of social media. The present study aims to explore the meanings and themes that emerge by Saudis’ Twitter users in response to the 2017 royal decree on women driving. The sample used in the current study involves (n= 1000) tweets that were collected from Sep 2017 to March 2019 to account for the Saudis’ tweets before and after implementing the decree. The paper uses semantic and thematic network analysis methods to examine the Saudis’ Twitter discourse on the women driving issue. The paper argues that Twitter as a platform has mediated the discourse of women driving among the Saudi community and facilitated social changes. Finally, framing theory (Goffman, 1974) and Networked framing (Meraz & Papacharissi 2013) are both used to explain the tweets on the decree of allowing Saudi women to drive based on # Saudi women-driving-cars. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saudi%20Arabia" title="Saudi Arabia">Saudi Arabia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=women" title=" women"> women</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Twitter" title=" Twitter"> Twitter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semantic%20network%20analysis" title=" semantic network analysis"> semantic network analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=framing" title=" framing "> framing </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112269/semantic-network-analysis-of-the-saudi-women-driving-decree" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112269.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">155</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Forensic Soil Analysis: Tested Using a Simulated Crime Scene</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Samara%20A.%20Testoni">Samara A. The great variability expressed by soil physical, chemical, biological and mineralogical properties show soil traces as complex mixtures. Soils are continuous and variable, no two soil samples being indistinguishable, nevertheless, the complexity of soil characteristics can provide powerful evidence for comparative forensic purposes. This work aimed to establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for forensic soil analysis in Brazil. We carried out a simulated crime scene with double blind sampling to calibrate the sampling procedures. Samples were collected at a range of locations covering a range of soil types found in South of Brazil: Santa Candida and Boa Vista, neighbourhoods from Curitiba (State of Parana) and in Guarani and Guaraituba, neighbourhoods from Colombo (Curitiba Metropolitan Region). A previously validated sequential analyses of chemical, physical and mineralogical analyses was developed in around 2 g of soil. The suggested SOP and the sequential range of analyses were effective in grouping the samples from the same place and from the same parent material together, as well as successfully discriminated samples from different locations and originated from different rocks. In addition, modifications to the sample treatment and analytical protocol can be made depending on the context of the forensic work. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clay%20mineralogy" title="clay mineralogy">clay mineralogy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forensic%20soils%20analysis" title=" forensic soils analysis"> forensic soils analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sequential%20analyses" title=" sequential analyses"> sequential analyses</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=kaolinite" title=" kaolinite"> kaolinite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gibbsite" title=" gibbsite"> gibbsite</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/99458/a-standard-operating-procedure-sop-for-forensic-soil-analysis-tested-using-a-simulated-crime-scene" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/99458.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">255</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Viscoelastic Characterization of Gelatin/Cellulose Nanocrystals Aqueous Bionanocomposites</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liliane%20Samara%20Ferreira%20Leite">Liliane Samara Ferreira Leite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Francys%20Kley%20Vieira%20Moreira"> Francys Kley Vieira Moreira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luiz%20Henrique%20Capparelli%20Mattoso"> Luiz Henrique Capparelli Mattoso</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The increasing environmental concern regarding the plastic pollution worldwide has stimulated the development of low-cost biodegradable materials. Proteins are renewable feedstocks that could be used to produce biodegradable plastics. Gelatin, for example, is a cheap film-forming protein extracted from animal skin and connective tissues of Brazilian Livestock residues; thus it has a good potential in low-cost biodegradable plastic production. However, gelatin plastics are limited in terms of mechanical and barrier properties. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) are efficient nanofillers that have been used to extend physical properties of polymers. This work was aimed at evaluating the reinforcing efficiency of CNC on gelatin films. Specifically, we have employed the continuous casting as the processing method for obtaining the gelatin/CNC bionanocomposites. This required a first rheological study for assessing the effect of gelatin-CNC and CNC-CNC interactions on the colloidal state of the aqueous bionanocomposite formulations. CNC were isolated from eucalyptus pulp by sulfuric acid hydrolysis (65 wt%) at 55 °C for 30 min. Gelatin was solubilized in ultra-pure water at 85°C for 20 min and then mixed with glycerol at 20 wt.% and CNC at 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt% and 2.5 wt%. Rotational measurements were performed to determine linear viscosity (η) of bionanocomposite solutions, which increased with increasing CNC content. At 2.5 wt% CNC, η increased by 118% regarding the neat gelatin solution, which was ascribed to percolation CNC network formation. Storage modulus (G’) and loss modulus (G″) further determined by oscillatory tests revealed that a gel-like behavior was dominant in the bionanocomposite solutions (G’ > G’’) over a broad range of temperature (20 – 85 °C), particularly at 2.5 wt% CNC. These results confirm effective interactions in the aqueous gelatin-CNC bionanocomposites that could substantially increase the physical properties of the gelatin plastics. Tensile tests are underway to confirm this hypothesis. Salon activities involve use of several instruments including scissors, scalpels and razors, materials such as soaps, solutions, creams and gels on human skin and body. Besides, salon customers also use chair, bed and many other common shared utensils and appliances. These salons related activities create a suitable environment for the transmission of several diseases and pathogens including hepatitis B and C, scabies, tuberculosis, staphylococcus and MRSA etc. The transmission of these pathogens can be prevented by maintenance of adequate hygiene and standard preventive measures. Aim: To assess the customer’s level of knowledge about salon-acquired infections and practices taken to prevent their transmission. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 500 participants across the Emirates. Moreover, self-administered questionnaires (in English and Arabic) were distributed through convenience sampling methods between February and April 2017. Results: The study included 500 participants of which 250 were females. The mean age of the study population was 33 years (SD=4.77). The participants were from several nationalities including 325 Arabs (Non-GCC) (66.2%), 108 Non-Arabs (22%), and 59 Arabs (GCC) (11.8%). The majority of the participants 421 (84.4%) had required knowledge about salon-associated infections with a mean knowledge score of 6/10 (60%). However, when it comes down to preventive practices, only 73 of the 500 participants (14.6%) did carry their own equipment. Thus, there was insufficient correlation between the level of knowledge and preventive practices (p=0.139) of salon-associated infections. Conclusion: People’s knowledge about the salon-associated infections among UAE residents was good, but only a small number practically took the required preventative measures towards this issue. Therefore, a public awareness program is recommended to enhance the deficiencies in knowledge and practices to prevent salon-acquired infections among the users. Up to our knowledge, this is the first study of this kind in the UAE targeting the salon customers about this important issue. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=awareness" title="awareness">awareness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge" title=" knowledge"> knowledge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=practices" title=" practices"> practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=salon-associated%20infections" title=" salon-associated infections"> salon-associated infections</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81749/salon-associated-infections-customers-knowledge-and-practice-measures" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81749.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">203</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> The Effectiveness of E-Training on the Attitude and Skill Competencies of Vocational High School Teachers during Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sabli">Sabli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eddy%20Rismunandar"> Eddy Rismunandar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akhirudin"> Akhirudin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nana%20Halim"> Nana Halim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zulfikar"> Zulfikar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nining%20Dwirosanti"> Nining Dwirosanti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wila%20Ningsih"> Wila Ningsih</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pipih%20Siti%20Sofiah"> Pipih Siti Sofiah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Danik%20Dania%20Asadayanti"> Danik Dania Asadayanti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dewi%20Eka%20Arini%20Algozi"> Dewi Eka Arini Algozi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gita%20Mahardika%20Pamuji"> Gita Mahardika Pamuji</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ajun"> Ajun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mangasa%20Aritonang"> Mangasa Aritonang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nanang%20Rukmana"> Nanang Rukmana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arief%20Rachman%20Wonodhipo"> Arief Rachman Wonodhipo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Victor%20Imanuel%20Nahumury"> Victor Imanuel Nahumury</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lili%20Husada"> Lili Husada</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wawan%20Saepul%20Irwan"> Wawan Saepul Irwan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Al%20Mukhlas%20Fikri"> Al Mukhlas Fikri</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Covid-19 pandemic has widely impacted the lives. An adaptive strategy must be quickly formulated to maintain the quality of education, especially by vocational school which technical skill competencies are highly needed. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of e-training on the attitude and skill competencies of vocational high school teachers in Indonesia. A total of 720 Indonesian vocational high school teachers with various programs, including hospitality, administration, online business and marketing, culinary arts, fashion, cashier, tourism, haircut, and accounting participated e-training for a month. The training used electronic learning management system to provide materials (modules, presentation slides, and tutorial videos), tasks, and evaluations. Tutorial class was carried out by video conference meeting. Attitude and skill competencies were evaluated before and after the training. Meanwhile, the teachers also gave satisfactory feedback on the quality of the organizer and tutors. Data analysis used paired sample t-test and Anova with Tukey’s post hoc test. The results showed that e-training significantly increased the score of attitude and skill competencies of the teachers (p <0,05). Moreover, the remarkable increase was found among hospitality (57,5%), cashier (50,1%), and online business and marketing (48,7%) teachers. However, the effect among fashion, tourism and haircut teachers was less obvious. In addition, the satisfactory score on the quality of the organizer and tutors were 88,9 (very good), and 93,5 (excellence), respectively. The study concludes that a well-organized e-training could increase the attitude and skill competencies of Indonesian vocational high school teachers during Covid-19 pandemic. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=E-training" title="E-training">E-training</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=skill" title=" skill"> skill</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teacher" title=" teacher"> teacher</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vocational%20high%20school" title=" vocational high school"> vocational high school</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148856/the-effectiveness-of-e-training-on-the-attitude-and-skill-competencies-of-vocational-high-school-teachers-during-covid-19-pandemic-in-indonesia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148856.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">148</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> Decolonizing Print Culture and Bibliography Through Digital Visualizations of Artists’ Books at the University of Miami</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alejandra%20G.%20Barb%C3%B3n">Alejandra G. In an era of heightened awareness about the legacy of hiddenness across special and rare collections in libraries and archives, along with the need for inclusivity in academia, the University of Miami Libraries has embarked on an innovative project that intersects the realms of print culture, decolonization, and digital technology. This proposal presents an exciting initiative to revitalize the study of Artists’ Books collections by employing digital visual representations to decolonize bibliographic records of some of the most unique materials and foster a more holistic understanding of cultural heritage. Artists' Books, a dynamic and interdisciplinary art form, challenge conventional bibliographic classification systems, making them ripe for the exploration of alternative approaches. This project involves the creation of a digital platform that combines multimedia elements for digital representations, interactive information retrieval systems, innovative information architecture, trending bibliographic cataloging and metadata initiatives, and collaborative curation to transform how we engage with and understand these collections. By embracing the potential of technology, we aim to transcend traditional constraints and address the historical biases that have influenced bibliographic practices. In essence, this study showcases a groundbreaking endeavor at the University of Miami Libraries that seeks to not only enhance bibliographic practices but also confront the legacy of hiddenness across special and rare collections in libraries and archives while strengthening conventional bibliographic description. By embracing digital visualizations, we aim to provide new pathways for understanding Artists' Books collections in a manner that is more inclusive, dynamic, and forward-looking. This project exemplifies the University’s dedication to fostering critical engagement, embracing technological innovation, and promoting diverse and equitable classifications and representations of cultural heritage. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decolonizing%20bibliographic%20cataloging%20frameworks" title="decolonizing bibliographic cataloging frameworks">decolonizing bibliographic cataloging frameworks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20visualizations%20information%20architecture%20platforms" title=" digital visualizations information architecture platforms"> digital visualizations information architecture platforms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=collaborative%20curation%20and%20inclusivity%20for%20records%20management" title=" collaborative curation and inclusivity for records management"> collaborative curation and inclusivity for records management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=engagement%20and%20accessibility%20increasing%20interaction%20design%20and%20user%20experience" title=" engagement and accessibility increasing interaction design and user experience"> engagement and accessibility increasing interaction design and user experience</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171818/decolonizing-print-culture-and-bibliography-through-digital-visualizations-of-artists-books-at-the-university-of-miami" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171818.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">73</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Governance Challenges for the Management of Water Resources in Agriculture: The Italian Way</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Baralla">Silvia Baralla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raffaella%20Zucaro"> Raffaella Zucaro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Romina%20Lorenzetti"> Romina Lorenzetti</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Water management needs to cope with economic, societal, and environmental changes. This could be guaranteed through 'shifting from government to governance'. In the last decades, it was applied in Europe through and within important legislative pillars (Water Framework Directive and Common Agricultural Policy) and their measures focused on resilience and adaptation to climate change, with particular attention to the creation of synergies among policies and all the actors involved at different levels. Within the climate change context, the agricultural sector can play, through sustainable water management, a leading role for climate-resilient growth and environmental integrity. A recent analysis on the water management governance of different countries identified some common gaps dealing with administrative, policy, information, capacity building, funding, objective, and accountability. The ability of a country to fill these gaps is an essential requirement to make some of the changes requested by Europe, in particular the improvement of the agro-ecosystem resilience to the effect of climatic change, supporting green and digital transitions, and sustainable water use. This research aims to contribute in sharing examples of water governances and related advantages useful to fill the highlighted gaps. Italy has developed a strong and exhaustive model of water governance in order to react with strategic and synergic actions since it is one of the European countries most threatened by climate change and its extreme events (drought, floods). In particular, the Italian water governance model was able to overcome several gaps, specifically as concerns the water use in agriculture, adopting strategies as a systemic/integrated approach, the stakeholder engagement, capacity building, the improvement of planning and monitoring ability, and an adaptive/resilient strategy for funding activities. They were carried out, putting in place regulatory, structural, and management actions. Regulatory actions include both the institution of technical committees grouping together water decision-makers and the elaboration of operative manuals and guidelines by means of a participative and cross-cutting approach. Structural actions deal with the funding of interventions within European and national funds according to the principles of coherence and complementarity. Finally, management actions regard the introduction of operational tools to support decision-makers in order to improve planning and monitoring ability. In particular, two cross-functional and interoperable web databases were introduced: SIGRIAN (National Information System for Water Resources Management in Agriculture) and DANIA (National Database of Investments for Irrigation and the Environment). Their interconnection allows to support sustainable investments, taking into account the compliance about irrigation volumes quantified in SIGRIAN, ensuring a high level of attention on water saving, and monitoring the efficiency of funding. Main positive results from the Italian water governance model deal with a synergic and coordinated work at the national, regional, and local level among institutions, the transparency on water use in agriculture, a deeper understanding from the stakeholder side of the importance of their roles and of their own potential benefits and the capacity to guarantee continuity to this model, through a sensitization process and the combined use of management operational tools. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agricultural%20sustainability" title="agricultural sustainability">agricultural sustainability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=governance%20model" title=" governance model"> governance model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20management" title=" water management"> water management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20policies" title=" water policies"> water policies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129254/governance-challenges-for-the-management-of-water-resources-in-agriculture-the-italian-way" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129254.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">117</span> </span> </div> </div> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
