application, we encourage you to follow the steps in the order presented below.</p> <div class="alert alert-info"><p>Please ensure that you follow the steps to the end, including designating your documents (step 8) and selecting the <strong>Submit my application</strong> button (step 9). As indicated at step 10, once you have successfully submitted your application, you will receive an email acknowledging the reception of your application. Also, if you select <strong>My opportunities</strong> on the sidebar menu, you should see the opportunity you applied for and the date that it was submitted. Also, your answers will not be saved if you don’t continue. Therefore, it is important that you complete the questionnaire and have all the required documents ready before you select the <strong>Continue</strong> button.</p> </div> </td> </tr><tr><td class="text-right">7</td> <td><p>Upload the required documents.</p> <p>To upload a document, select the <strong>Choose File</strong> button, find your document and select the <strong>Open</strong> button. Our discontinued application form has been partially replaced by a cover letter. If you submitted an application in our previous system and it is still valid (2-year retention period), you do not need to provide a cover letter. If you need to update your application form and you did not keep a copy, please <a href="/en/privy-council/corporate/contact-us.html#sen" target="_blank">contact us</a>.</p> </div> <p>The following six documents are required to submit an application:</p> <ul type="circle"> <li>Curriculum vitae</li> <li>Cover letter</li> <li>Reference letter 1</li> <li>Reference letter 2</li> <li>Reference letter 3</li> <li>Background check consent form</li> </ul> <p><strong>Curriculum vitae (CV)</strong></p> <p>The CV should include dates and indicate your academic qualifications and employment history. It should also indicate any professional affiliations, major achievements, distinctions and awards you have received for at least the last 10 years. The CV must be up to 1,500 words, and no attachments or other supplementary documentation are to be submitted. You may use your own CV or create one with our <a href="#cvform-modal" aria-controls="centred-popup-modal" class="wb-lbx lbx-modal" role="button">template</a>.</p> <section id="cvform-modal" class="mfp-hide modal-dialog modal-content overlay-def no-print"> <header class="modal-header"> <h2 class="modal-title">Before you download the CV template...</h2> </header> <div class="modal-body"> <p>You need Adobe Reader 10 or higher to use our PDF forms. Make sure you download the file to your computer then open it from that location with the Adobe Reader software. The use of tablets or smart phones is not recommended.</p> <p>If you have Adobe Reader installed on your computer and are ready to fill this form with Adobe Reader:</p> <a href="/content/dam/pco-bcp/images/sps/iasba/CV-eng.pdf" download><button class="btn btn-success">Download CV template</button></a> </div> </section> <p><strong>Cover letter</strong></p> <p>Your cover letter must be up to 1,500 words and must include two sections:</p> <ol type="i"> <li>a personal statement to describe how you meet the <a href="/en/campaign/independent-advisory-board-for-senate-appointments/assessment-criteria.html" target="_blank">knowledge, personal qualities and qualifications related to the role of the Senate</a>, using specific examples to highlight your skills and experience.</li> <li>a non-partisanship statement to demonstrate your ability to bring a perspective and contribution to the work of the Senate that would be independent and non-partisan.</li> </ol> <p><strong>Reference letters (3)</strong></p> <p>You are required to provide three reference letters from individuals attesting to your suitability for a Senate appointment. You are encouraged to identify referees from your province or territory. The referee can provide the letter as an individual or on behalf of an organization, must have known you for a minimum of five years and cannot be a close family member.</p> <p>We suggest sending the <a href="#reference-modal" aria-controls="centred-popup-modal" class="wb-lbx lbx-modal" role="button">template</a> to your referees so they know what information the Advisory Board is looking for. However, they may write their own letter. A reference letter must be up to 1000 words. Referees may be contacted during the course of the process; therefore, their contact information must be included.
