class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>To Timothy<MG5095>, <i>my</i> true<MG1103> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>son<MG5043> in <i>the</i> faith<MG4102>: Grace<MG5485>, mercy<MG1656>, <i>and</i> peace<MG1515> from God<MG2316> the Father<MG3962> and Christ<MG5547> Jesus<MG2424> our Lord<MG2962>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> I urged<MG3870> you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>upon my departure<MG4198> for Macedonia<MG3109>, to remain<MG4357> on at Ephesus<MG2181> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> you would instruct<MG3853> certain<MG5100> people<MG5100> not to teach<MG2085> strange<MG2085> doctrines<MG2085>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>nor<MG3366> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>pay<MG4337> attention<MG4337> to myths<MG3454> and endless<MG562> genealogies<MG1076>, which<MG3748> give<MG3930> rise<MG3930> to useless<MG1567b> speculation<MG1567b> rather<MG3123> than<MG2228> <i>advance</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>the plan<MG3622> of God<MG2316>, which is by faith<MG4102>, <i>so I urge you now.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>But the goal<MG5056> of our <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>instruction<MG3852> is love<MG26> from a pure<MG2513> heart<MG2588>, <i>from</i> a good<MG18> conscience<MG4893>, and <i>from</i> a sincere<MG505> faith<MG4102>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Some<MG5100> people<MG5100> have strayed<MG795> from these<MG3739> things<MG3739> and have turned<MG1624> aside<MG1624> to fruitless<MG3150> discussion<MG3150>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>wanting<MG2309> to be teachers<MG3547> of<MG3547> the<MG3547> Law<MG3547>, even though they do not understand<MG3539> either<MG3383> what<MG3739> they are saying<MG3004> or<MG3383> the matters about<MG4012> which<MG5101> they make<MG1226> confident<MG1226> assertions<MG1226>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>But we know<MG3609a> that the Law<MG3551> is good<MG2570>, if<MG1437> one<MG5100> uses<MG5530> it lawfully<MG3545>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>realizing<MG3609a> the fact<MG3778> that law<MG3551> is not made<MG2749> for a righteous<MG1342> person<MG1342> but for those who are lawless<MG459> and rebellious<MG506>, for the ungodly<MG765> and sinners<MG268>, for the unholy<MG462> and worldly<MG952>, for those<MG3970a> who<MG3970a> kill<MG3970a, 3389> their fathers<MG3970a> or<MG2532> mothers<MG3389>, for murderers<MG409>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>for the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>sexually<MG4205> immoral<MG4205>, homosexuals<MG733a>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>slave<MG405> traders<MG405>, liars<MG5583>, perjurers<MG1965>, and whatever<MG1487, 5100> else<MG2087> is contrary<MG480> to sound<MG5198> teaching<MG1319>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>according<MG2596> to the glorious<MG1391> gospel<MG2098> of the blessed<MG3107> God<MG2316>, with which<MG3739> I have been entrusted<MG4100>. <p class="hdg">Paul’s Testimony</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>I thank<MG5485> Christ<MG5547> Jesus<MG2424> our Lord<MG2962>, who has strengthened<MG1743> me, because<MG3754> He considered<MG2233> me faithful<MG4103>, putting<MG5087> me into service<MG1248>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/1-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>even though I was previously<MG4387> a blasphemer<MG989> and a persecutor<MG1376> and a violent<MG5197> aggressor<MG5197>.
