<a href="/acts/10-6.htm">6</a>he is staying<MG3579> with a tanner<MG1038> named Simon<MG4613>, whose<MG3739> house<MG3614> is by the sea<MG2281>.” <a href="/acts/10-7.htm">7</a>When<MG5613> the angel<MG32a> who *spoke<MG2980> to him left<MG565>, he summoned<MG5455> two<MG1417> of his <a href="#fn">[c]</a>servants<MG3610b> and a devout<MG2152> soldier<MG4757> from his personal<MG4342> attendants<MG4342>, <a href="/acts/10-8.htm">8</a>and after he had explained<MG1834> everything<MG537a> to them, he sent<MG649> them to Joppa<MG2445>. <a href="/acts/10-9.htm">9</a>On the next<MG1887> day<MG1887>, as they were on their way<MG3596> and approaching<MG1448> the city<MG4172>, Peter<MG4074> went<MG305> up<MG305> on the <a href="#fn">[d]</a>housetop<MG1430> about<MG4012> <a href="#fn">[e]</a>the sixth<MG1623> hour<MG5610> to pray<MG4336>. <a href="/acts/10-10.htm">10</a>But he became<MG1096> hungry<MG4361> and wanted<MG2309> to eat<MG1089>; but while they were making<MG3903> preparations<MG3903>, he fell<MG1096> into a trance<MG1611>; <a href="/acts/10-11.htm">11</a>and he *saw<MG2334> the sky<MG3772> opened<MG455> up<MG455>, and an <a href="#fn">[f]</a>object<MG4632> like<MG5613> a great<MG3173> sheet<MG3607> coming<MG2597> down<MG2597>, lowered<MG2524> by four<MG5064> corners<MG746> to the ground<MG1093>, <a href="/acts/10-12.htm">12</a>and on it were all<MG3956> kinds of four-footed<MG5074> animals<MG5074> and <a href="#fn">[g]</a>crawling<MG2062> creatures<MG2062> of the earth<MG1093> and birds<MG4071> of the sky<MG3772>. <a href="/acts/10-13.htm">13</a>A voice<MG5456> came<MG1096> to him, “Get<MG450> up<MG450>, Peter<MG4074>, <a href="#fn">[h]</a>kill<MG2380> and eat<MG2068>!” <a href="/acts/10-14.htm">14</a>But Peter<MG4074> said<MG3004>, “By no<MG3365> means<MG3365>, Lord<MG2962>, for I have never<MG3763> eaten<MG2068> anything<MG3956> <a href="#fn">[i]</a>unholy<MG2839> and unclean<MG169>.” <a href="/acts/10-15.htm">15</a>Again<MG3825> a voice<MG5456> came to him a second<MG1208> time<MG1208>, “What<MG3739> God<MG2316> has cleansed<MG2511>, no<MG3361> longer <a href="#fn">[j]</a>consider<MG2840> unholy<MG2839>.” <a href="/acts/10-16.htm">16</a>This<MG3778> happened<MG1096> three<MG5151> times<MG5151>, and immediately<MG2117> the <a href="#fn">[k]</a>object<MG4632> was taken<MG353> up<MG353> into the sky<MG3772>. <a href="/acts/10-17.htm">17</a>Now<MG1161> while<MG5613> Peter<MG4074> was greatly<MG1280> perplexed<MG1280> in <a href="#fn">[l]</a>mind<MG1438> as to what<MG5101> the vision<MG3705> which<MG3739> he had seen<MG3708> might <a href="#fn">[m]</a>mean, behold<MG2400>, the men<MG435> who had been sent<MG649> by Cornelius<MG2883> had asked<MG1331> directions<MG1331> to Simon’s<MG4613> house<MG3614>, and they appeared<MG2186> at the gate<MG4440>; <a href="/acts/10-18.htm">18</a>and calling<MG5455> out, they were asking<MG4441> whether<MG1487> Simon<MG4613>, who was also called<MG1941> Peter<MG4074>, was staying<MG3579> there<MG1759a>. <a href="/acts/10-19.htm">19</a>While Peter<MG4074> was reflecting<MG1327a> on the vision<MG3705>, the Spirit<MG4151> said<MG3004> to him, “Behold<MG2400>, <a href="#fn">[n]</a>three<MG5140> men<MG435> are looking<MG2212> for<MG2212> you. <a href="/acts/10-20.htm">20</a>But get<MG450> up<MG450>, go<MG2597> downstairs<MG2597> and accompany<MG4198, 4862> them <a href="#fn">[o]</a>without<MG3367> misgivings<MG1252>, for I have sent<MG649> them Myself<MG1473>.” <a href="/acts/10-21.htm">21</a>Peter<MG4074> went<MG2597> down<MG2597> to the men<MG435> and said<MG3004>, “Behold<MG2400>, I am<MG1510> the one you are looking<MG2212> for<MG2212>; what<MG5101> is the reason<MG156> for which<MG3739> you have come<MG3918b>?” <a href="/acts/10-22.htm">22</a>They said<MG3004>, “Cornelius<MG2883>, a centurion<MG1543>, a righteous<MG1342> and God-fearing<MG2316> man<MG435> well<MG3140> spoken<MG3140> of by the entire<MG3650> nation<MG1484> of the Jews<MG2453>, was divinely directed<MG5537> by a holy<MG40> angel<MG32a> to send<MG3343> for you to come to his house<MG3624> and hear<MG191> <a href="#fn">[p]</a>a message<MG4487> from you.” <a href="/acts/10-23.htm">23</a>So<MG3767> he invited<MG1528> them in<MG1528> and gave<MG3579> them lodging<MG3579>. Peter in Caesarea Now on the next<MG1887> day<MG1887> he got<MG450> ready<MG450> and went<MG1831> away<MG1831> with them, and some<MG5100> of the brothers<MG80> from Joppa<MG2445> accompanied<MG4905> him. <a href="/acts/10-24.htm">24</a>On the following<MG1887> day<MG1887> he entered<MG1525> Caesarea<MG2542>. Now<MG1161> Cornelius<MG2883> was expecting<MG4327> them and had called<MG4779> together<MG4779> his relatives<MG4773a> and close<MG316> friends<MG5384>. <a href="/acts/10-25.htm">25</a>When<MG5613> Peter<MG4074> entered<MG1525>, Cornelius<MG2883> met<MG4876> him, and fell<MG4098> at his feet<MG4228> and <a href="#fn">[q]</a>worshiped<MG4352> him. <a href="/acts/10-26.htm">26</a>But Peter<MG4074> helped<MG1453> him up<MG1453>, saying<MG3004>, “Stand<MG450> up<MG450>; I, too<MG2532>, am<MG1510> just<MG846> a man<MG444>.” <a href="/acts/10-27.htm">27</a>As he talked<MG4926> with him, he entered<MG1525> and *found<MG2147> many<MG4183> people<MG4183> assembled<MG4905>. <a href="/acts/10-28.htm">28</a>And he said<MG5346> to them, “You yourselves<MG4771> know<MG1987> that it is forbidden<MG111> for a Jewish<MG2453> man<MG435> to associate<MG2853> with<MG2853> or<MG2228> visit<MG4334> a <a href="#fn">[r]</a>foreigner<MG246>; and yet God<MG2316> has shown<MG1166> me that I am not to call<MG3004> any<MG3367> person<MG444> <a href="#fn">[s]</a>unholy<MG2839> or<MG2228> unclean<MG169>. <a href="/acts/10-29.htm">29</a>That is why<MG1352> I came<MG2064> without<MG369> even<MG2532> raising<MG369> any<MG369> objection<MG369> when I was sent<MG3343> for<MG3343>. So<MG3767> I ask<MG4441>, for what<MG5101> reason<MG3056> did you send<MG3343> for<MG3343> me?” <a href="/acts/10-30.htm">30</a>Cornelius<MG2883> said<MG5346>, “Four<MG5067a> days<MG2250> ago<MG575> to this<MG3778> hour<MG5610>, I was praying<MG4336> in my house<MG3624> during the <a href="#fn">[t]</a>ninth<MG1729a> hour<MG1729a>; and behold<MG2400>, a man<MG435> stood<MG2476> before<MG1799> me in shining<MG2986> clothing<MG2066>, <a href="/acts/10-31.htm">31</a>and he *said<MG5346>, ‘Cornelius<MG2883>, your prayer<MG4335> has been heard<MG1522> and your charitable<MG1654> gifts<MG1654> have been remembered<MG3403> before<MG1799> God<MG2316>. <a href="/acts/10-32.htm">32</a>Therefore<MG3767> send<MG3992> some men to Joppa<MG2445> and invite<MG3333> Simon<MG4613>, who<MG3739> is also called<MG1941> Peter<MG4074>, to come to you; he is staying<MG3579> at the house<MG3614> of Simon<MG4613> the tanner<MG1038>, by the sea<MG2281>.’ <a href="/acts/10-33.htm">33</a>So<MG3767> I sent<MG3992> men to you immediately<MG1824>, and you have <a href="#fn">[u]</a>been kind<MG2573> enough<MG2573> to come<MG3854>. Now<MG3568> then<MG3767>, we are all<MG3956> here<MG3918b> present<MG3918b> before<MG1799> God<MG2316> to hear<MG191> everything<MG3956> that you have been commanded<MG4367> by the Lord<MG2962>.” Gentiles Hear Good News<a href="/acts/10-34.htm">34</a>Opening<MG455> his mouth<MG4750>, Peter<MG4074> said<MG3004>: “I most<MG225> certainly<MG1909, 225> understand<MG2638> now that God<MG2316> is not one<MG4381> to<MG4381> show<MG4381> partiality<MG4381>, <a href="/acts/10-35.htm">35</a>but in every<MG3956> nation<MG1484> the one who <a href="#fn">[v]</a>fears<MG5399> Him and <a href="#fn">[w]</a>does<MG2038b> what<MG1343> is<MG1343> right<MG1343> is acceptable<MG1184> to Him. <a href="/acts/10-36.htm">36</a>The word<MG3056> which<MG3739> He sent<MG649> to the sons<MG5207> of Israel<MG2474>, preaching<MG2097> <a href="#fn">[x]</a>peace<MG1515> through<MG1223> Jesus<MG2424> Christ<MG5547> (He is Lord<MG2962> of all<MG3956>)— <a href="/acts/10-37.htm">37</a>you yourselves<MG4771> know<MG3609a> the thing<MG4487> that happened<MG1096> throughout<MG2596, 3650> Judea<MG2449>, starting<MG757> from Galilee<MG1056>, after<MG3326> the baptism<MG908> which<MG3739> John<MG2491> proclaimed<MG2784>. <a href="/acts/10-38.htm">38</a><a href="#fn">[y]</a>You know of Jesus<MG2424> of Nazareth<MG3478>, how<MG5613> God<MG2316> anointed<MG5548> Him with the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> and with power<MG1411>, <a href="#fn">[z]</a>and how He went<MG1330> about<MG1330> doing<MG2109> good<MG2109> and healing<MG2390> all<MG3956> who were oppressed<MG2616a> by the devil<MG1228>, for God<MG2316> was with Him. <a href="/acts/10-39.htm">39</a>We are witnesses<MG3144> of all<MG3956> the things<MG3956> that He did<MG4160> both<MG5037> in the <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>country<MG5561> of the Jews<MG2453> and in Jerusalem<MG2419>. They also<MG2532> put<MG337> Him to<MG337> death<MG337> by hanging<MG2910> Him on <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>a cross<MG3586>. <a href="/acts/10-40.htm">40</a>God<MG2316> raised<MG1453> Him up<MG1453> on the third<MG5154> day<MG2250> and granted<MG1325> that He <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>be revealed<MG1717>, <a href="/acts/10-41.htm">41</a>not to all<MG3956> the people<MG2992>, but to witnesses<MG3144> who had been chosen<MG4401> beforehand<MG4401> by God<MG2316>, that is, to us who<MG3748> ate<MG4906> and drank<MG4844a> with Him after<MG3326> He arose<MG450> from the dead<MG3498>. <a href="/acts/10-42.htm">42</a>And He ordered<MG3853> us to <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>preach<MG2784> to the people<MG2992>, and to testify<MG1263> solemnly<MG1263> that this<MG3778> is the One who has been appointed<MG3724> by God<MG2316> as Judge<MG2923> of the living<MG2198> and the dead<MG3498>. <a href="/acts/10-43.htm">43</a>All<MG3956> the prophets<MG4396> testify<MG3140> of Him, that through<MG1223> His name<MG3686> everyone<MG3956> who believes<MG4100> in Him receives<MG2983> forgiveness<MG859> of sins<MG266>.” <a href="/acts/10-44.htm">44</a>While Peter<MG4074> was still<MG2089> speaking<MG2980> these<MG3778> words<MG4487>, the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> fell<MG1968> upon all<MG3956> those<MG3588> who were listening<MG191> to the <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>message<MG3056>. <a href="/acts/10-45.htm">45</a>All<MG3745> the <a href="#fn">[af]</a>Jewish<MG4061> believers<MG4103> who<MG3745> came<MG4905> with Peter<MG4074> were amazed<MG1839>, because<MG3754> the gift<MG1431> of the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> had also<MG2532> been poured<MG1632b> out<MG1632b> on the Gentiles<MG1484>. <a href="/acts/10-46.htm">46</a>For they were hearing<MG191> them speaking<MG2980> with tongues<MG1100> and exalting<MG3170> God<MG2316>. Then<MG5119> Peter<MG4074> responded<MG611>, <a href="/acts/10-47.htm">47</a>“Surely<MG3385> no<MG3385> one<MG5100> can<MG1410> refuse<MG2967> the water<MG5204> for these<MG3778> to be baptized<MG907>, who<MG3748> have received<MG2983> the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> just<MG5613, 2532> as<MG5613> we did, can he?” <a href="/acts/10-48.htm">48</a>And he ordered<MG4367> them to be baptized<MG907> in the name<MG3686> of Jesus<MG2424> Christ<MG5547>.
