And the sons of Daran were Asshurim, Letushim, and Ammim. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Haphar, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Kenturah. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>And Abraham gave everything that he had to Isaac. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>But to the sons of his concubine, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac, his son, eastward to the east country, while he was still alive.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, a hundred and seventy-five years. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>Then Abraham became sick, and died in a good old age, an old man satisfied with his days; and was gathered to his people. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the double cave, (Machpelah) which is in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>The field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth, as a possession for a burial ground. There was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And it came to pass after the death of Abraham that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well of Khaya-khezan (The Well of The Living One who saw me).<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's maid, bore to Abraham; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the first-born of Ishmael, Nebioth, and Kedar, Arbal, and Mibsam, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>Mishma, Romah, Massa, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>Hadar, Tema, Nator, Naphish, and Kedem. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names by their villages and by their sheepfolds, twelve princes according to their nations. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, a hundred and thirty-seven years; and he became sick and died; and was gathered to his people. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And they dwelt from Havilah as far as Shud, which extends from the border of Egypt to the gateway of Assyria; he dwelt adjacent to the lands of all his brethren.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>These are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begot Isaac; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Padan-aram, the sister of Laban, the Aramean (Syrian). <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>And Isaac prayed before the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD answered him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>And the children struggled together within her womb; and she said, If it is to be like this, why do I live? So she went to enquire of the LORD.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>And the LORD said to her, Two peoples are in your womb, and two nations shall be separated from your body; and the one nation shall be stronger than the other nation; and the elder shall serve the younger.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>And the first came out red, all covered with ringlets of hair; and they called his name Esau. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>And after him his brother came forth, and his hand held Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob; and Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah bore them.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>And the boys grew up; and Esau became an expert hunter, a man of outdoor life; but Jacob was a simple man, living in a tent. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>And Isaac was fond of Esau, because he ate of Esau's game; but Rebekah was fond of Jacob.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>And Jacob cooked pottage, and behold, his brother Esau came in from the field, and he was very hungry; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>And Esau said to Jacob, Give me some of that pottage, for I am famished; that is why he was called Edom. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>And Jacob said, Sell me this day your birthright. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point of death; and what profit shall a birthright be to me? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>And Jacob said to him, Swear to me this day; and he swore to him; and he sold his birthright to Jacob. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/25-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage; and he ate, and drank, and rose up and went his way; thus Esau despised his birthright.<p><br /></div></div><div id="botbox"><div class="padbot"><div align="center">Holy Bible From The Ancient Eastern Texts: Aramaic Of The Peshitta by George M.
