He will come, and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.<Fr><p> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>Did ye never read the Scripture, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same became the head of a corner;<Fr><p> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><FR>this was from the Lord, and is marvelous in our eyes?"<Fr><p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And they were seeking to lay hold of Him; and they feared the multitude; for they knew that He spake the parable against them; and, leaving Him, they went away.<p> <A name="14"></a><p class="hdg">Paying Taxes to Caesar<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/22.htm#15">Matthew 22:15&#8211;22</a>; <a href ="../luke/20.htm#19">Luke 20:19&#8211;26</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And they send to Him some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, that they may entrap Him in speech. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And, coming, they say to Him, "Teacher, we know that Thou art true, and carest not for any one; for Thou lookest not into the face of men, but in truth teachest the way of God. Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Shall we give, or shall we not give?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, <FR>"Why are ye tempting Me? Bring Me a denary, that I may see it."<Fr> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And they brought it. And He saith to them, <FR>"Whose is this image and inscription?"<Fr> And they said to Him, "Caesar's." <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And Jesus said to them, <FR>"Render to Caesar the things of Caesar, and to God the things of God."<Fr> And they wondered exceedingly at Him.<p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">The Sadducees and the Resurrection<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/22.htm#23">Matthew 22:23&#8211;33</a>; <a href ="../luke/20.htm#27">Luke 20:27&#8211;40</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And there come to Him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and they were asking Him, saying, <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>"Teacher, Moses wrote to us, 'If any man's brother die, and leave a wife behind, and leave no child, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.' <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>There were seven brothers; and the first took a wife; and, dying, left no seed. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And the second took her, and died, leaving no seed; and the third likewise. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And the seven left no seed. Last of all the woman also died. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>In the resurrection whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her as a wife." <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, <FR>"<i>Is it</i> not on this account that ye err, because ye know not the Scriptures, nor the power of God?<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span><FR>For, when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels in Heaven.<Fr> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span><FR>But, concerning the dead, that they are raised, did ye not read in the book of Moses, at the 'Bush,' how God spake to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?'<Fr> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span><FR>He is not the God of the dead, but of the living: ye do greatly err."<Fr><p> <A name="29"></a><p class="hdg">The Greatest Commandment<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/22.htm#34">Matthew 22:34&#8211;40</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And one of the scribes, coming near, hearing them discussing together, knowing that He answered them well, asked Him, "What commandment is first of all?" <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Jesus answered, <FR>"The first is, 'Hear, O Israel; the Lord is our God, the Lord is One;<Fr> <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span><FR>and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your mind and with all your strength.'<Fr> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/12-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span><FR>A second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
