You say you have little control over your government well whose fault is that? It’s not like the situation we had under Saddam when to even be suspected of being an opponent meant death. I lost plenty of my family that way.

YOU on the other hand have the chance to change your government without being dragged off to die horribly in one of Saddam’s torture chambers. If you’re not happy with your government then you should stop using your government as an excuse and go do it.

Yes it is very wrong to murder indiscriminately I am glad to see you agree that it is just as wrong when it is done by Americans or by you British. You might like to note that your American friends’ soldiers with lots of help from your British soldiers are the ones who have done the most killing – especially of civilians since the Americans with eager assistance from your government and your soldiers started their illegal and savage war against my country and my people.

You say that being British you have a multi-culture of friends of all religious beliefs. I am happy for you, what went wrong with you

You disgusting little hypocrite. We had a tolerant multi-ethnic multi-cultural society for centuries longer than Britain has had. We lived peacefully side by with each other Sunni and Shia, and with the other religions such as Christians. We went to each others’ homes, we went to their shops and they went to ours, there were lots of marriages between the various kinds of Muslim and between Christians and Muslims. One of my parents was Sunni and the other Shia, my husband was Sunni I am Shia. That we lived together peacably was true under the Ottomans, it was true under the British Occupation, it was true under the Republic, it was true under Saddam, then you Brits and your American buddies came along and deliberately wrecked every part of our society. You disgusting little hypocrite your government and army together with your American buddies deliberately cynically viciously tried the old British favourite of “divide and rule” by fomenting sectarianism and war.

Your British soldiers and their big brothers in the American Army wiped out more civilians than all the terrorists combined and then you have the effrontery to come this site whose team members, Muslim and Christian alike risk their lives every day to try undo a little of the evil that your country and your soldiers did. You come here flaunting your thinly concealed bigotry and racism and try smear all Muslims. Go burn in hell you worthless little hypocrite.

Maryam

Alli on October 9th, 2010 2:40 am:

Maryam, you have no room to talk, I can not change what the government in America does or has done and neither can you so we all feel bad for this poor boy and no one thinks of the families they are hurting when they do stuff like this. Then there are the numerous threats by death squads, ditto assassination attempts, ditto having my home firebombed repeatedly and members of my family killed. From the information you provided, I assume you are either a doctor, nurse or hold some position in the medical or emergency department. I am an American. I understand, (only to a degree that is allowed by my minimal exposure that is marginal in comparison to yours) how you are hurting in your country. I too, wish we nor any other would have gotten involved in any political situation away from our borders. Like you, I want a sovereign nation, without outside forces or influence. However, I do not think you or I will ever again see this. This world is changing and I personally do not believe it to be for the better. The position was to bring liberty to your country. I always thought this was so very strange as you can not liberate someone else. Isn’t that the whole point? When you liberate someone on their behalf, all that happens is that masters change. People have to liberate themselves. It is impossible to allow natural evolution in any country, person, company or anything to occur with outside involvement. Believe me when I tell you that the American people want all of our troupes home. I agree that we should have never been there in the first place. If your country had issues, they were your issues. Now you have the whole world’s issues. I feel for you and your country. I pray for peace daily. I will continue and now add a prayer of protection for you and your life’s work. If we had more “you” and less politicians, we would be way better off. All of us. And as for the religious reasoning – what ever! I have read portions of all the religious texts and non would agree with what is going on. It is a shame. Be careful, and keep your head down and your eyes up. I feel for this little boy and his family. I have many friends over there in the military, and they love the people there, hate the reason they are there. You came here, of all places, making accusations of hypocrisy and immaturity against somebody who rightly told a bigot where to get off.

Did you actually bother to read the offensive pack of lies that Maryam was responding to? Among them this:

stop trying to pass the blame, and covering up the fact that you are violent terrorists,

Are you aware of the fact that you have publicly made a fool of yourself? The people who write here risk there lives everyday in the service of others. They know from personal experience what it is like to live with death threats not only from the invaders and their death squads but also from vicious fanatics. They go ahead giving help where it is desperately needed anyway. Why do they do this? They do it because they take their principles seriously and because they love their people and detest bigots. They don’t put up with the sort of condescending bigotry written by "john bull" because they see very clearly how fundamentally wrong and uncivilised it is. They also see what it leads to.

Maryam was quite right to respond as she did. Her response was correct as to tone, manner, and terms used. Bigots, by their bigotry forfeit the right to respect.

As to the special pleading you’ve engaged in, nobody expects you to be able to do anything concrete but you could at least make an effort to comprehend what you have read and to refrain from being damned rude to people who risk everything everyday to mitigate what should be unthinkable horrors inflicted upon innocent people.

markfromireland

markfromireland on December 1st, 2010 3:51 pm:

Maryam is a paediatric oncologist.

mfi

Bella Lynch on December 19th, 2010 5:41 am:

I am american, and I feel really bad for this little boy. I know it’s a far stretch, but if only the crazy government people all over the world would just stop this, the world would finally be a good place to live on.

Sometimes I wish there was no government and that people would just BEHAVE. It’s STUPID. How did the world get this way?

Bella Lynch on December 19th, 2010 5:45 am:

It is Korean, not Koran…

Mohammed Ibn Laith on December 19th, 2010 10:13 am:

A spelling mistake that is easy to make :-) In this case however Koran is correct — see this from the Merriam Webster dictionary:

Koran – Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

Definition of KORAN
: the book composed of sacred writings accepted by Muslims as revelations made to Muhammad by Allah through the angel Gabriel
— Ko·ran·ic also Qu·ran·ic or Qur·’an·ic \kə-ˈra-nik\ adjective

Variants of KORAN
Ko·ran also Qur·an or Qur·’an \kə-ˈran, -ˈrän; ku̇-\
Origin of KORAN
Arabic qur’ān
First Known Use: circa 1615

Mohammed Ibn Laith on December 19th, 2010 10:24 am:

Yes it is the government and the very big companies that sell weapons and the shareholders of those companies.

And yes if people (including those in government and the big companies) would just, as you say, behave the world would be a much better place.

As to your son let us both pray that he never knows misfortune such as this boy has.

May your son and his children all grow in peace and may they learn to love justice.

Mohammed Ibn Laith

Laura on December 20th, 2010 6:27 am:

Amen.

And may our most fervent prayers be found inside the work we do to make it so.

Laura on December 20th, 2010 6:28 am:

(And I take the Guides as a model of this work.)

Mohammed Ibn Laith on December 20th, 2010 6:38 pm:

Ameen.

lauragurl on January 25th, 2011 3:15 am:

I cant express in words the saddness this picture brings me.
