dikembangkan oleh PT. Kompas Cyber Media sejak 22 Oktober 2008. Sebagai platform yang berbasiskan user-generated content seperti media sosial, setiap konten (artikel, foto, video, dan komentar) dibuat dan ditayangkan langsung oleh Pengguna Internet yang telah memiliki Akun Kompasiana (disebut Kompasianer).</p> <p>Di tahun pertama kehadirannya, Kompasiana dibangun sebagai blog jejaring internal untuk jurnalis dan karyawan Kompas Gramedia. Memasuki tahun 2009, produk ini bertransformasi menjadi platform blog untuk semua orang. Nama Kompasiana sendiri diambil dari nama kolom yang diisi oleh Pendiri Harian Kompas, PK Ojong.</p> <p>Pada tahun 2017, produk digital yang semula menyandang slogan “Sharing. Connecting” ini mengusung slogan baru: “Beyond Blogging”. “Lebih dari sekedar ngeblog” merupakan semangat dan tekad menghadirkan sesuatu yang lebih bermakna dan bernilai bagi pengguna maupun pengakses.</p> <p>Melalui slogan tersebut, masyarakat diharapkan lebih mudah mengenali Kompasiana sebagai produk media sosial buatan Indonesia, sekaligus mempertegas visi dan misi Kompasiana sebagai saluran opini dan gagasan yang mencerahkan dan memperkaya wawasan, serta menjadi saluran pemberdayaan kreator konten.</p> <p>Setiap konten yang dibuat Kompasianer dapat langsung tayang sehingga memberikan ruang kepada pengguna untuk turut berpartisipasi dalam pengelolaan melalui fitur pelaporan guna memastikan tidak ada konten yang melanggar Syarat dan Ketentuan.</p> <p>Sepanjang perjalanannya, Kompasiana pernah meraih tiga penghargaan, yakni Asian Digital Media Awards-2010 (Best in Digital Content – User Generated Content) WAN-IFRA, Kanal Blog Citizen Journalism Terbaik dari Pesta Blogger 2010 dan Marketeers Netizen Champion dari majalah Marketeers.</p> <p>Kompasiana juga telah menghubungkan banyak jenama dan lembaga untuk berinteraksi dengan komunitas Kompasianer melalui beragam kegiatan online dan offline.
