the man and his household entered: <A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-2.htm#aramaic"><b>2</b></a></span>Rubil and Shemon and Levi and Yehuda. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>And Issakar and Zebulon and Benyamin. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>And Dan and Naphtali and Gad and Ashir. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>And all the souls that came out from the loins of Yaquuv were seventy souls, and Yoseph was in Egypt. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>And Yoseph died and all his brothers and all that generation. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And the sons of Israel increased and they had children, and they multiplied and they grew very strong, and the land was filled by them.<p> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And a new King arose over Egypt that had not known Yoseph. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are many and are mightier than we: <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>Grant that we will be wise concerning them before they are multiplied, lest we come to war and they are added also unto our haters, and they will fight with us and they will drive us out from the land.” <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And they placed evil Rulers over them that would oppress them in their oppression and they were building cities, places of storage for Pharaoh, Pithom and Raamsis. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And as much as those oppressed them, so they were multiplying, and thus they were growing strong, and it was distressing them before the children of Israel. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>And the Egyptians were oppressing the children of Israel with hardship: <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>And they were making their lives bitter with hard labor in clay and in bricks and in every work of the field, all the servitude that they were serving for them with hardship.<p> <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>And the King of Egypt said to the Hebrew Midwives, the name of one of whom was Pua, and the name of another, Shupra: <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/1-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>And he said to them, “When you happen to deliver for a Hebrew woman, be looking, when kneeling;
