<t><p class="indent1">I have appointed<MH5414> you as a prophet<MH5030> to the nations<MH1471>.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then I said<MH559>, “Oh<MH162>, Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>GOD<MH3068>! <t><p class="indent1">Behold<MH2009>, I do not know<MH3045> how to speak<MH1696>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> I am a youth<MH5288>.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>But the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, <p class="indent1stline">“Do not say<MH559>, ‘I am a youth<MH5288>,’ <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> everywhere<MH5921, 3605, 834> I send<MH7971> you, you shall go<MH1980>, <t><p class="indent1">And all<MH3605> that I command<MH6680> you, you shall speak<MH1696>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“Do not be<MH3372a> afraid<MH3372a> of them, <t><p class="indent1">For I am with you to save<MH5337> you,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> stretched<MH7971> out<MH7971> His hand<MH3027> and touched<MH5060> my mouth<MH6310>, and the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, <p class="indent1stline">“Behold<MH2009>, I have put<MH5414> My words<MH1697> in your mouth<MH6310>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>“See<MH7200>, I have appointed<MH6485> you this<MH2088> day<MH3117> over<MH5921> the nations<MH1471> and over<MH5921> the kingdoms<MH4467>, <t><p class="indent1">To root<MH5428> out<MH5428> and to tear<MH5422> down<MH5422>, <t><p class="indent1">To destroy<MH6> and to overthrow<MH2040>, <t><p class="indent1">To build<MH1129> and to plant<MH5193>.” <p class="hdg">The Almond Branch and Boiling Pot</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to me, saying<MH559>, “What<MH4100> do you see<MH7200>, Jeremiah<MH3414>?” And I said<MH559>, “I see<MH7200> a branch<MH4731> of an <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>almond<MH8247> tree<MH8247>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, “You have seen<MH7200> well<MH3190>, for I am <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>watching<MH8245> over<MH5921> My word<MH1697> to perform<MH6213a> it.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to me a second<MH8145> time<MH8145>, saying<MH559>, “What<MH4100> do you see<MH7200>?” And I said<MH559>, “I see<MH7200> a boiling<MH5301> pot<MH5518a>, facing<MH6440> away from the north<MH6828>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, “Out of the north<MH6828> the evil<MH7463a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>will be unleashed<MH6605a> on all<MH3605> the inhabitants<MH3427> of the land<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For, behold<MH2009>, I am calling<MH7121> all<MH3605> the families<MH4940> of the kingdoms<MH4467> of the north<MH6828>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>; “and they will come<MH935> and place<MH5414>, each<MH376> one<MH376> <i>of them,</i> his throne<MH3678> at the entrance<MH6607> of the gates<MH8179> of Jerusalem<MH3389>, and against<MH5921> all<MH3605> its walls<MH2346> around<MH5439>, and against<MH5921> all<MH3605> the cities<MH5892b> of Judah<MH3063>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>pronounce<MH1696> My judgments<MH4941> against<MH854> them concerning<MH5921> all<MH3605> their wickedness<MH7463a>, since<MH834> they have abandoned<MH5800a> Me and have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>offered<MH6999> sacrifices<MH6999> to other<MH312> gods<MH430>, and worshiped<MH2331c> the works<MH4639> of their own hands<MH3027>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/1-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Now, belt<MH247> <i>your garment</i> around<MH247> your waist<MH4975> and arise<MH6965>, and speak<MH1696> to them all<MH3605> that I command<MH6680> you.
