Waist circumference is related to abdominal obesity which has a significant effect on the increase of blood pressure. Inulin is one of prebiotic, that has health benefits by offering the potential for lipid management, that can be useful to decrease the risk factor of metabolic syndrome. The aim of the research is to evaluate the effect of 10 gram inulin-substituted ice cream in waist circumference and blood pressure of abdominal obesity adolescents. Inulin had the ability to produce Short Chain Fatty Acid which can improve blood pressure and waist circumference. Systolic blood pressure was significantly decreased in the treatment group (p=0.028) with the mean of reduction 7.35 ± 11.59 mmHg. However, diastolic blood pressure and waist circumference showed no significant effect. Waist circumference, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure was decreased in control group. These results suggest that inulin-substituted ice cream used as therapeutics and prevention for the early onset of metabolic syndrome. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blood%20pressure" title="blood pressure">blood pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inulin" title=" inulin"> inulin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metabolic%20syndrome" title=" metabolic syndrome"> metabolic syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waist%20circumference" title=" waist circumference"> waist circumference</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66625/effect-of-inulin-substituted-ice-cream-on-waist-circumference-and-blood-pressure-of-adolescents-with-abdominal-obesity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66625.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">411</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">57</span> Development of an Aerosol Protection Capsule for Patients with COVID-19</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isomar%20Lima%20da%20Silva">Isomar Lima da Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aristeu%20Jonatas%20Leite%20de%20Oliveira"> Aristeu Jonatas Leite de Oliveira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Roberto%20Maia%20Augusto"> Roberto Maia Augusto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Biological isolation capsules are equipment commonly used in the control and prevention of infectious diseases in the hospital environment. This type of equipment, combined with pre-established medical protocols, contributes significantly to the containment of highly transmissible pathogens such as COVID-19. Due to its hermetic isolation, it allows more excellent patient safety, protecting companions and the health team. In this context, this work presents the development, testing, and validation of a medical capsule to treat patients affected by COVID-19. To this end, requirements such as low cost and easy handling were considered to meet the demand of people infected with the virus in remote locations in the Amazon region and/or where there are no ICU beds and mechanical ventilators for orotracheal intubation. Conceived and developed in a partnership between SAMEL Planos de Saúde and Instituto Conecthus, the device entitled "Vanessa Capsule" was designed to be used together with the NIV protocol (non-invasive ventilation), has an automatic exhaust system and filters performing the CO2 exchange, in addition to having BiPaps ventilatory support equipment (mechanical fans) in the Cabin Kit. The results show that the degree of effectiveness in protecting against infection by aerosols, with the protection cabin, is satisfactory, implying the consideration of the Vanessa capsule as an auxiliary method to be evaluated by the health team. It should also be noted that the medical observation of the evaluated patients found that the treatment against the COVID-19 virus started earlier with non-invasive mechanical ventilation reduces the patient's suffering and contributes positively to their recovery, in association with isolation through the Vanessa capsule. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COVID-19" title="COVID-19">COVID-19</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20ventilators" title=" mechanical ventilators"> mechanical ventilators</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medical%20capsule" title=" medical capsule"> medical capsule</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-invasive%20ventilation" title=" non-invasive ventilation"> non-invasive ventilation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163906/development-of-an-aerosol-protection-capsule-for-patients-with-covid-19" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163906.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">56</span> Carbon Nanotubes Synthesized Using Sugar Cane as a Percursor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Romanovicz">Vanessa Romanovicz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Beatriz%20A.%20Berns"> Beatriz A. The objective was to produce CNTs to be used as catalyst supports for Proton Exchange Membranes. The influence of temperature, inert gas flow rate and concentration of the precursor is presented. The CNTs prepared were characterized using TEM, XRD, Raman Spectroscopy, and the surface area determined by BET. The results show that it is possible to form CNT from sugar cane by pyrolysis and the CNTs are the type multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The MWCNTs are short and closed at the two ends with very small surface area of SBET = 3.691m,/g. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carbon%20nanotubes" title="carbon nanotubes">carbon nanotubes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sugar%20cane" title=" sugar cane"> sugar cane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuel%20cell" title=" fuel cell"> fuel cell</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catalyst%20support" title=" catalyst support"> catalyst support</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3116/carbon-nanotubes-synthesized-using-sugar-cane-as-a-percursor" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3116.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">447</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">55</span> Market Acceptance of Irradiated Food in the City of Piracicaba, Brazil </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20de%20Cillos%20Silva">Vanessa de Cillos Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fabr%C3%ADcio%20Jos%C3%A9%20Piacente"> Fabrício José Piacente</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S%C3%B4nia%20Maria%20De%20Stefano%20Piedade"> Sônia Maria De Stefano Piedade</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Valter%20Arthur"> Valter Arthur</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The increasing concern in relation to safety and hygiene of food consumption makes it so that food conservation is studied. Food radiation is a technique used for conservation, but many consumers associate this technique with dangers such as environmental contamination and development of diseases. HaskellFL was tested against functional programming assignments submitted by students enrolled at the functional programming class at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and against exercises from the Exercism Haskell track that are publicly available on GitHub. Furthermore, the EXAM score was chosen to evaluate the tool’s effectiveness, and results showed that HaskellFL reduced the effort needed to locate an error for all tested scenarios. We demonstrate that by freeze-drying gene circuits with in vitro expression machinery, we can use complimentary RNA sequences to trigger colorimetric changes upon rehydration. We have successfully utilized both green fluorescent protein and luciferase-based reporters for easy visualization purposes in solution. Through several efforts, we are aiming to use this new platform technology to address a variety of needs in portable detection by demonstrating several more expression and reporter systems for detection functions on paper. In addition to RNA-based biodetection, we are exploring the use of various mechanisms that cells use to respond to environmental conditions to move towards all-hazards detection. Examples include explosives, heavy metals for water quality, and toxic chemicals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell-free%20lysates" title="cell-free lysates">cell-free lysates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=detection" title=" detection"> detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gene%20circuits" title=" gene circuits"> gene circuits</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=in%20vitro" title=" in vitro"> in vitro</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71047/paper-based-detection-using-synthetic-gene-circuits" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71047.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">395</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">50</span> Multicenter Evaluation of the ACCESS HBsAg and ACCESS HBsAg Confirmatory Assays on the DxI 9000 ACCESS Immunoassay Analyzer, for the Detection of Hepatitis B Surface Antigen</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Roulet">Vanessa Roulet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc%20Turini"> Marc Turini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juliane%20Hey"> Juliane Hey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=St%C3%A9phanie%20Bord-Romeu"> Stéphanie Bord-Romeu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emilie%20Bonzom"> Emilie Bonzom</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahmoud%20Badawi"> Mahmoud Badawi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed-Amine%20Chakir"> Mohammed-Amine Chakir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Val%C3%A9rie%20Simon"> Valérie Simon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Viotti"> Vanessa Viotti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J%C3%A9r%C3%A9mie%20Gautier"> Jérémie Gautier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fran%C3%A7oise%20Le%20Boulaire"> Françoise Le Boulaire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Catherine%20Coignard"> Catherine Coignard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claire%20Vincent"> Claire Vincent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sandrine%20Greaume"> Sandrine Greaume</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isabelle%20Voisin"> Isabelle Voisin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Beckman Coulter, Inc. has recently developed fully automated assays for the detection of HBsAg on a new immunoassay platform. The objective of this European multicenter study was to evaluate the performance of the ACCESS HBsAg and ACCESS HBsAg Confirmatory assays† on the recently CE-marked DxI 9000 ACCESS Immunoassay Analyzer. Methods: The clinical specificity of the ACCESS HBsAg and HBsAg Confirmatory assays was determined using HBsAg-negative samples from blood donors and hospitalized patients. The clinical sensitivity was determined using presumed HBsAg-positive samples. Sample HBsAg status was determined using a CE-marked HBsAg assay (Abbott ARCHITECT HBsAg Qualitative II, Roche Elecsys HBsAg II, or Abbott PRISM HBsAg assay) and a CE-marked HBsAg confirmatory assay (Abbott ARCHITECT HBsAg Qualitative II Confirmatory or Abbott PRISM HBsAg Confirmatory assay) according to manufacturer package inserts and pre-determined testing algorithms. False initial reactive rate was determined on fresh hospitalized patient samples. The sensitivity for the early detection of HBV infection was assessed internally on thirty (30) seroconversion panels. Results: Clinical specificity was 99.95% (95% CI, 99.86 – 99.99%) on 6047 blood donors and 99.71% (95%CI, 99.15 – 99.94%) on 1023 hospitalized patient samples. A total of six (6) samples were found false positive with the ACCESS HBsAg assay. None were confirmed for the presence of HBsAg with the ACCESS HBsAg Confirmatory assay. Clinical sensitivity on 455 HBsAg-positive samples was 100.00% (95% CI, 99.19 – 100.00%) for the ACCESS HBsAg assay alone and for the ACCESS HBsAg Confirmatory assay. The false initial reactive rate on 821 fresh hospitalized patient samples was 0.24% (95% CI, 0.03 – 0.87%). Results obtained on 30 seroconversion panels demonstrated that the ACCESS HBsAg assay had equivalent sensitivity performances compared to the Abbott ARCHITECT HBsAg Qualitative II assay with an average bleed difference since first reactive bleed of 0.13. All bleeds found reactive in ACCESS HBsAg assay were confirmed in ACCESS HBsAg Confirmatory assay. Conclusion: The newly developed ACCESS HBsAg and ACCESS HBsAg Confirmatory assays from Beckman Coulter have demonstrated high clinical sensitivity and specificity, equivalent to currently marketed HBsAg assays, as well as a low false initial reactive rate. †Pending achievement of CE compliance; not yet available for in vitro diagnostic use. 2023-11317 Beckman Coulter and the Beckman Coulter product and service marks mentioned herein are trademarks or registered trademarks of Beckman Coulter, Inc. in the United States and other countries. Foreign direct investment is thus considered to be one of the solutions to this stability especially when it is used in development sectors. The present study was meant to understand whether the foreign direct investment stimulates economic growth performance in Rwanda. The foreign direct investments and economic growth (GDP) has been the subject of much debate among economic development researchers, aid donors as well as recipients in general and Rwanda in particular. In spite of this, there are only few empirical studies that investigate the contributions of foreign direct investments to economic growth in Rwanda. This study explores the relationship between foreign direct investments and economic growth in Rwanda using data that spans from 2000 to 2019 and establishing through causal study if changes in one variable cause changes in the other. The results show that foreign direct investments significantly contribute to the current level of economic growth. The findings imply that Rwanda could enhance its economic growth by effectively and strategically strengthening foreign direct investment plans. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=foreign%20direct%20investment%20%28FDI%29" title="foreign direct investment (FDI)">foreign direct investment (FDI)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic%20growth" title=" economic growth"> economic growth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GDP%20gross%20domestic%20product%20%28GDP%29" title=" GDP gross domestic product (GDP)"> GDP gross domestic product (GDP)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inflation" title=" inflation"> inflation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exchange%20rate" title=" exchange rate"> exchange rate</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/188725/impact-of-foreign-direct-investment-to-the-economic-growth-of-rwanda" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/188725.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">32</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">47</span> Laying Performance of Itik Pinas (Anas platyrynchos Linnaeus) as Affected by Garlic (Allium sativum) Powder in Drinking Water</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gianne%20Bianca%20P.%20Manalo">Gianne Bianca P. A total of 48 ducks (42 females and 6 males) were used in the study. The ducks were allocated into two treatments - with garlic powder (GP) and without garlic powder (control) in drinking water. Each treatment had three replicates with eight ducks (7 females and 1 male) per replication. The results showed that there was a significant (P = 0.03) difference in average egg weight where higher values were attained by ducks with GP (77.67 g ± 0.64) than the control (75.64 g ± 0.43). The supplementation of garlic powder in drinking water, however, did not affect the egg production, feed intake, FCR, egg mass, livability, egg quality and egg classification. The Itik Pinas with GP in drinking water had numerically higher income over feed cost than those without. GP in drinking water can be considered in raising Itik Pinas. Further studies on increasing level of GP and long feeding duration also merit consideration to substantiate the findings. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phytogenic" title="phytogenic">phytogenic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=garlic%20powder" title=" garlic powder"> garlic powder</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Itik-Pinas" title=" Itik-Pinas"> Itik-Pinas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=egg%20weight" title=" egg weight"> egg weight</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=egg%20production" title=" egg production"> egg production</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169537/laying-performance-of-itik-pinas-anas-platyrynchos-linnaeus-as-affected-by-garlic-allium-sativum-powder-in-drinking-water" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169537.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> Intersections and Consequences of the Epistemology and Methodology used in Equity-Related Chemistry Education Research</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20R.%20Ralph">Vanessa R. In this synthesis of two flagship journals of Chemistry Education Research: Chemistry Education Research and Practice and the Journal of Chemical Education, the use and investigation of equity was examined by the language, epistemology, and methodologies of the researchers. Findings include a considerable increase in the use and investigation of equity in these journals following the years 2012 and 2020. While an increase in consciousness of equity was apparent, epistemologies were stagnated. The majority reflects a deficit-oriented perspective wherein deficits are attributed to students as a “lack of achievement” inherent to specific “demographic groups” and minimized as “gaps” rather than systemic inequities. The lack of epistemological progress may be the result of reading and citing literature within discipline-based education research, failing to acknowledge the efforts propagated for decades by equity theory advancement in disciplines of sociology and psychology. To envision liberated educational systems across the globe, one must first contend with the biases within. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liberating%20education%20research" title="liberating education research">liberating education research</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=philosophy%20of%20research" title=" philosophy of research"> philosophy of research</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synthesis" title=" synthesis"> synthesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=review" title=" review"> review</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137219/intersections-and-consequences-of-the-epistemology-and-methodology-used-in-equity-related-chemistry-education-research" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137219.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">202</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> A Lesson in the Social Welfare System in Mexico: Limited Resources for Unlimited Needs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20L.%20Haro">Vanessa L. Responding to the challenge of combating gender violence and inequality, Mexico has created social programs and initiatives in hopes of addressing these issues and modernizing their gender norms, which currently disempower and dehumanize women, while simultaneously denying women the necessary tools needed to fight back or bring balance to the gender scales. Nevertheless, women in Mexico have made their voices heard with the most salient image of that of the mothers protesting while holding the photos of their young daughters who lost their lives. This case study on gender issues in Mexico works to acknowledge the diverse forces that contribute to the issue of gender violence, and to make a statement that this is a crisis that requires a more dynamic response within Mexico’s social welfare policies, and should not be allowed to continue to progress as a normative phenomenon. As the advocacy groups and protesters cry out, “Ni una menos! Yet, the role of chemical phenomena in an introductory chemistry course may define the extent to which the course is introductory, chemistry, and equitable. Picture, for example, the classic Ideal Gas Law problem. If one envisions a prompt wherein students are tasked with calculating a missing variable, then one envisions a prompt that relies on chemical phenomena as a context rather than as a model to understand the natural world. Consider a prompt wherein students are tasked with applying molecular models of gases to explain why the vapor pressure of a gaseous solution of water differs from that of carbon dioxide. Here, the chemical phenomenon is not only the context but also the subject of the prompt. Deliveries of general and organic chemistry were identified as ranging wildly in the integration of chemical phenomena. The more incorporated the phenomena, the more equitable the assessment task was for students of varying access to pre-college math and science preparation. How chemical phenomena are integrated may very well define whether courses are chemistry, are introductory, and are equitable. Educators of chemistry are invited colleagues to discuss the role of chemical phenomena in their courses and consider the long-lasting impacts of replicating tradition for tradition’s sake. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equitable%20educational%20practices" title="equitable educational practices">equitable educational practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemistry%20curriculum" title=" chemistry curriculum"> chemistry curriculum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=content%20organization" title=" content organization"> content organization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assessment%20design" title=" assessment design"> assessment design</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137218/evaluating-the-prominence-of-chemical-phenomena-in-chemistry-courses" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137218.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">197</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">43</span> Understanding Children’s Visual Attention to Personal Protective Equipment Using Eye-Tracking</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Cho">Vanessa Cho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Janet%20Hsiao"> Janet Hsiao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nigel%20King"> Nigel King</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Robert%20Anthonappa"> Robert Anthonappa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: The personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for health care workers (HCWs) have changed significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aim: To ascertain, using eye-tracking technology, what children notice the most when seeing HCWs in various PPE. Design: A Tobii nano pro-eye-tracking camera tracked 156 children's visual attention while they viewed photographs of HCWs in various PPEs. Eye Movement analysis with Hidden Markov Models (EMHMM) was employed to analyse 624 recordings using two approaches, namely (i) data-driven where children's fixation determined the regions of interest (ROIs), and (ii) fixed ROIs where the investigators predefined the ROIs. Results: Two significant eye movement patterns, namely distributed(85.2%) and selective(14.7%), were identified(P<0.05). Most children fixated primarily on the face regardless of the different PPEs. Children fixated equally on all PPE images in the distributed pattern, while a strong preference for unmasked faces was evident in the selective pattern (P<0.01). Conclusion: Children as young as 2.5 years used a top-down visual search behaviour and demonstrated their face processing ability. Most children did not show a strong visual preference for a specific PPE, while a minority preferred PPE with distinct facial features, namely without masks and loupes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COVID-19" title="COVID-19">COVID-19</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PPE" title=" PPE"> PPE</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dentistry" title=" dentistry"> dentistry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pediatric" title=" pediatric"> pediatric</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161863/understanding-childrens-visual-attention-to-personal-protective-equipment-using-eye-tracking" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161863.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">90</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">42</span> Effect of Capillary Forces on Wet Granular Avalanches</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Jarray">Ahmed Jarray</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Magnanimo"> Vanessa Magnanimo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stefan%20Luding"> Stefan Luding</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Granular avalanches are ubiquitous in nature and occur in numerous industrial processes associated with particulate systems. When a small amount of liquid is added to a pile of particles, pendular bridges form and the particles are attracted by capillary forces, creating complex structure and flow behavior. We have performed an extensive series of experiments to investigate the effect of capillary force and particle size on wet granular avalanches, and we established a methodology that ensures the control of the granular flow in a rotating drum. The velocity of the free surface and the angle of repose of the particles in the rotating drum are determined using particle tracking method. The capillary force between the particles is significantly reduced by making the glass beads hydrophobic via chemical silanization. We show that the strength of the capillary forces between two adjacent particles can be deliberately manipulated through surface modification of the glass beads, thus, under the right conditions; we demonstrate that the avalanche dynamics can be controlled. The results show that the avalanche amplitude decreases when increasing the capillary force. We also find that liquid-induced cohesion increases the width of the gliding layer and the dynamic angle of repose, however, it decreases the velocity of the free surface. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=avalanche%20dynamics" title="avalanche dynamics">avalanche dynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capillary%20force" title=" capillary force"> capillary force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=granular%20material" title=" granular material"> granular material</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=granular%20flow" title=" granular flow"> granular flow</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69253/effect-of-capillary-forces-on-wet-granular-avalanches" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69253.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">276</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">41</span> Evaluation of the Patient Identification Process in Healthcare Facilities in a Brazilian City Area</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carmen%20Silvia%20Gabriel">Carmen Silvia Gabriel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20de%20F%C3%A1tima%20Paiva%20Brito"> Maria de Fátima Paiva Brito</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mariane%20de%20Paula%20Candido"> Mariane de Paula Candido</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Barato%20Oliveira"> Vanessa Barato Oliveira</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Patient identification is a necessary practice to ensure patient safety in any healthcare environment, including emergency care units, test laboratories, home care and clinics. The present study aimed to provide evidence that can effectively contribute to practices concerning patient identification. Its objective was to investigate patient identification in basic healthcare units through patient safety standards. To do so, a descriptive and non-experimental research outline study was carried out to inquire how patient identification takes place in a particular situation. All technical manager nurses from the chosen healthcare facilities were included in the sample for the study. Data was collected in September of 2014 after approval from the Committee of Ethics. All researched institutions fit the same profile: they’re public facilities for general care with observation beds. None of them has a wristband identification protocol or policy. Only one institution mentioned using some kind of visual identification; namely, body tags separated by colors according to the type of care, but it still does not apply the recommended tags by the Brazilian Ministry of Health. This study allowed the authors to acknowledge how important the commitment from the whole healthcare team in the patient identification process is and also acknowledge how necessary it is to implement institutional policies that may aid the healthcare units in this area to promote a quality and safe patient care. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=patient%20safety" title="patient safety">patient safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=identification" title=" identification"> identification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nursing" title=" nursing"> nursing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emergency%20care%20units" title=" emergency care units"> emergency care units</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21279/evaluation-of-the-patient-identification-process-in-healthcare-facilities-in-a-brazilian-city-area" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21279.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">406</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> Functional Profiling of a Circular RNA from the Huntingtin (HTT) Gene</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laura%20Gantley">Laura Gantley</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20M.%20Conn"> Vanessa M. The most common of these, Huntington’s disease, results from the expansion of the CAG repeat region in exon 1 of the HTT gene via an unknown mechanism. Non-coding RNAs have been implicated in the initiation and progression of many diseases; thus, we focus on one circular RNA (circRNA) molecule arising from non-canonical splicing (back splicing) of HTT pre-mRNA. This circRNA and its mouse orthologue were transgenically overexpressed in human cells (SHSY-5Y and HEK293T) and mouse cells (Mb1), respectively. High-content imaging and flow cytometry demonstrated the overexpression of this circRNA reduces cell proliferation, reduces nuclear size independent of cellular size, and alters cell cycle progression. Analysis of protein by western blot and immunofluorescence demonstrated no change to HTT protein levels but altered nuclear-cytoplasmic distribution without impacting the expansion of the HTT repeat region. As these phenotypic and genotypic changes are found in Huntington’s disease patients, these results may suggest that this circRNA may play a functional role in the progression of Huntington’s disease. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20biology" title="cell biology">cell biology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=circular%20RNAs" title=" circular RNAs"> circular RNAs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Huntington%E2%80%99s%20disease" title=" Huntington’s disease"> Huntington’s disease</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=molecular%20biology" title=" molecular biology"> molecular biology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neurodegenerative%20disorders" title=" neurodegenerative disorders"> neurodegenerative disorders</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156572/functional-profiling-of-a-circular-rna-from-the-huntingtin-htt-gene" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156572.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">100</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Factors Associated with Weight Loss Maintenance after an Intervention Program</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Filipa%20Cortez">Filipa Cortez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Pereira"> Vanessa Pereira</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: The main challenge of obesity treatment is long-term weight loss maintenance. The 3 phases method is a weight loss program that combines a low carb and moderately high-protein diet, food supplements and a weekly one-to-one consultation with a certified nutritionist. Sustained weight control is the ultimate goal of phase 3. Success criterion was the minimum loss of 10% of initial weight and its maintenance after 12 months. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with successful weight loss maintenance after 12 months at the end of 3 phases method. Methods: The study included 199 subjects that achieved their weight loss goal (phase 3). Weight and body mass index (BMI) were obtained at the baseline and every week until the end of the program. Therapeutic adherence was measured weekly on a Likert scale from 1 to 5. Subjects were considered in compliance with nutritional recommendation and supplementation when their classification was ≥ 4. After 12 months of the method, the current weight and number of previous weight-loss attempts were collected by telephone interview. The statistical significance was assumed at p-values < 0.05. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS TM software v.21. Results: 65.3% of subjects met the success criterion. The factors which displayed a significant weight loss maintenance prediction were: greater initial percentage weight loss (OR=1.44) during the weight loss intervention and a higher number of consultations in phase 3 (OR=1.10). Conclusion: These findings suggest that the percentage weight loss during the weight loss intervention and the number of consultations in phase 3 may facilitate maintenance of weight loss after the 3 phases method. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=obesity" title="obesity">obesity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weight%20maintenance" title=" weight maintenance"> weight maintenance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low-carbohydrate%20diet" title=" low-carbohydrate diet"> low-carbohydrate diet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dietary%20supplements" title=" dietary supplements"> dietary supplements</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93360/factors-associated-with-weight-loss-maintenance-after-an-intervention-program" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93360.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">150</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">38</span> Therapeutic Potential of mAb KP52 in Human and Feline Cancers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abigail%20Tan">Abigail Tan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heng%20Liang%20Tan"> Heng Liang Tan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Ding"> Vanessa Ding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=James%20Hui"> James Hui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eng%20Hin%20Lee"> Eng Hin Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andre%20Choo"> Andre Choo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Comparative oncology investigates the similarities in spontaneous carcinogenesis between humans and animals, in order to identify treatments that can benefit these patients. Companion animals (CA), like canines and felines, are of special interest when it comes to studying human cancers due to their exposure to the same environmental factors and develop tumours with similar features. The purpose of this study is to explore the cross-reactivity of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) across cancers in humans and CA. Material and Methods: A panel of CA mAbs generated in the lab was screened on multiple human cancer cell lines through flow cytometry to identify for positive binders. Shortlisted candidates were then characterised by biochemical and functional assays e.g., antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) and western blot assays, including glycan studies. Results: Candidate mAb KP52 was generated from whole-cell immunisation using feline mammary carcinoma. KP52 showed strong positive binding to human cancer cells, such as breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Furthermore, KP52 demonstrated strong killing ( > 50%) as an ADC with Saporin as the payload. Western blot results revealed the molecular weight of the antigen targets to be approximately 45kD and 50kD under reduced conditions. Glycan studies suggest that the epitope is glycan in nature, specifically an O-linked glycan. Conclusion: Candidate mAb KP52 has a therapeutic potential as an ADC against feline mammary cancer, human ovarian cancer, human mammary cancer, human pancreatic cancer, and human gastric cancer. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ADC" title="ADC">ADC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comparative%20oncology" title=" comparative oncology"> comparative oncology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mAb" title=" mAb"> mAb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=therapeutic" title=" therapeutic"> therapeutic</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114328/therapeutic-potential-of-mab-kp52-in-human-and-feline-cancers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114328.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">173</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Chemical Study of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCS) from Xylopia aromatica (LAM.) Therefore it is extremely important to investigate, identify and isolate volatile substances, since they can be used in different areas, such as food, medicine, cosmetics, perfumery, aromatherapy, pesticides, repellents and other household products through methods for extracting volatile constituents, such as solid phase microextraction (SPME), hydrodistillation (HD), solvent extraction (SE), Soxhlet extraction, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), stream distillation (SD) and vacuum distillation (VD). The Chemometrics is an area of chemistry that uses statistical and mathematical tools for the planning and optimization of the experimental conditions, and to extract relevant chemical information multivariate chemical data. In this context, the focus of this work was the study of the chemical VOCs by SPME of the specie X. aromatica, in search of constituents that can be used in the industrial sector as well as in food, cosmetics and perfumery, since these areas industrial has a considerable role. In addition, by chemometric analysis, we sought to maximize the answers of this research, in order to search for the largest number of compounds. The investigation of flowers from X. aromatica in vitro and in alive mode proved consistent, but certain factors supposed influence the composition of metabolites, and the chemometric analysis strengthened the analysis. Thus, the study of the chemical composition of X. aromatica contributed to the VOCs knowledge of the species and a possible application. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemometrics" title="chemometrics">chemometrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flowers" title=" flowers"> flowers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HS-SPME" title=" HS-SPME"> HS-SPME</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xylopia%20aromatica" title=" Xylopia aromatica"> Xylopia aromatica</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29441/chemical-study-of-volatile-organic-compounds-vocs-from-xylopia-aromatica-lam-mart-annonaceae" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29441.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">362</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> The Plant Hormone Auxin Impacts the Profile of Aroma Compounds in Tomato Fruits (Solanum lycopersicum)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Caroline%20De%20Barros%20Bonato">Vanessa Caroline De Barros Bonato</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruna%20Lima%20Gomes"> Bruna Lima Gomes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luciano%20Freschi"> Luciano Freschi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eduardo%20Purgatto"> Eduardo Purgatto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The plant hormone ethylene is closely related to the metabolic changes that occur during fruit ripening, including volatile biosynthesis. Although knowledge about the biochemistry pathways that produce flavor compounds and the importance of ethylene to these processes are extensively covered, little is known about the regulation mechanisms. In addition, growing body of evidences indicates that auxin is also involved in controlling ripening. However, there is scarce information about the involvement of auxin in fruit volatile production. This study aimed to assess auxin-ethylene interactions and its influence on tomato fruit volatile profile. Fruits from tomato cultivar Micro-Tom were treated with IAA and ethylene, separately and in combination. The hormonal treatment was performed by injection (IAA) or gas exposure (ethylene) and the volatiles were extracted by Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) and analyzed by GC-MS. Ethylene levels and color were measured by gas chromatography and colorimetry, respectively. The results indicate that the treatment with IAA (even in the presence of high concentrations of exogenous ethylene), impacted the profile of volatile compounds derived from fatty acids, amino acids, carbohydrates and isoprenoids. Ethylene is a well-known regulator of the transition from green to red color and also is implicated in the biosynthesis of characteristic volatile compounds of tomato fruit. The effects observed suggest the existence of a crosstalk between IAA and ethylene in the aroma volatile formation in the fruit. A possible interference of IAA in the ethylene sensitivity in the fruit flesh is discussed. The data suggest that auxin plays an important role in the volatile synthesis in the tomato fruit and introduce a new level of complexity in the regulation of the fruit aroma formation during ripening. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aroma%20compounds" title="aroma compounds">aroma compounds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fruit%20ripening" title=" fruit ripening"> fruit ripening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fruit%20quality" title=" fruit quality"> fruit quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phytohormones" title=" phytohormones"> phytohormones</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23649/the-plant-hormone-auxin-impacts-the-profile-of-aroma-compounds-in-tomato-fruits-solanum-lycopersicum" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23649.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">399</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">35</span> Iodine Nutritional Knowledge of Food Handlers: A Capricorn and Waterberg District Study, Limpopo Province, South Africa</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Solomon%20Ngoako%20Mabapa">Solomon Ngoako Mabapa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Selekane%20Ananias%20Motadi"> Selekane Ananias Motadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nteseng%20Mailula"> Nteseng Mailula</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hlekani%20Vanessa%20%20Mbhatsani"> Hlekani Vanessa Mbhatsani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lindelani%20Fhumudzani%20Mushaphi"> Lindelani Fhumudzani Mushaphi </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: South Africa has indeed made good progress towards IDD elimination, as far as implementation of salt iodization and coverage of iodized salt are concerned, the education and promotion aspects of the iodized salt intervention are seriously lacking. Here, a direct displacement-based seismic design approach for frame buildings with hysteretic energy dissipation systems (HEDS) is applied. The building is constituted by two individual structural systems consisting of: 1) A main elastic structural frame designed for service loads and 2) A secondary system, corresponding to the HEDS, that controls the effects of lateral loads. The procedure implies to control two design parameters: A) The stiffness ratio (α=K_frame/K_(total system)), and B) The strength ratio (γ= V_damper / V_(total system)). The proposed damage-controlled approach contributes to the design of a more sustainable and resilient building because the structural damage is concentrated on the HEDS. The reduction of the design displacement spectrum is done by means of a damping factor (recently published) for elastic structural systems with HEDS, located in Mexico City. Two limit states are verified: Serviceability and near collapse. Instead of the traditional trial-error approach, a procedure that allows the designer to establish the preliminary sizes of the structural elements of both systems is proposed. The design methodology is applied to an 8-story steel building with buckling restrained braces, located in soft soil of Mexico City. With the aim of choosing the optimal design parameters, a parametric study is developed considering different values of α and γ. The simplified methodology is for preliminary sizing, design, and evaluation of the effectiveness of HEDS, and it constitutes a modern and practical tool that enables the structural designer to select the best design parameters. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damage-controlled%20buildings" title="damage-controlled buildings">damage-controlled buildings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=direct%20displacement-based%20seismic%20design" title=" direct displacement-based seismic design"> direct displacement-based seismic design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimal%20hysteretic%20energy%20dissipation%20systems" title=" optimal hysteretic energy dissipation systems"> optimal hysteretic energy dissipation systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hysteretic%20dampers" title=" hysteretic dampers"> hysteretic dampers</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22154/modern-seismic-design-approach-for-buildings-with-hysteretic-dampers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22154.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">483</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">33</span> The Mediating Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Driven Customer Experience in the Relationship Between AI Voice Assistants and Brand Usage Continuance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=George%20Cudjoe%20Agbemabiese">George Cudjoe Agbemabiese</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Paul%20Kosiba"> John Paul Kosiba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Boadi%20Nyamekye"> Michael Boadi Nyamekye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Narkie%20Tetteh"> Vanessa Narkie Tetteh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caleb%20Nunoo"> Caleb Nunoo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed%20Muniru%20Husseini"> Mohammed Muniru Husseini</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The smartphone industry continues to experience massive growth, evidenced by expanding markets and an increasing number of brands, models and manufacturers. As technology advances rapidly, manufacturers of smartphones are consistently introducing new innovations to keep up with the latest evolving industry trends and customer demand for more modern devices. This study aimed to assess the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) voice assistant (VA) on improving customer experience, resulting in the continuous use of mobile brands. Specifically, this article assesses the role of hedonic, utilitarian, and social benefits provided by AIVA on customer experience and the continuance intention to use mobile phone brands. Using a primary data collection instrument, the quantitative approach was adopted to examine the study's variables. Data from 348 valid responses were used for the analysis based on structural equation modeling (SEM) with AMOS version 23. Three main factors were identified to influence customer experience, which results in continuous usage of mobile phone brands. These factors are social benefits, hedonic benefits, and utilitarian benefits. In conclusion, a significant and positive relationship exists between the factors influencing customer experience for continuous usage of mobile phone brands. The study concludes that mobile brands that invest in delivering positive user experiences are in a better position to improve usage and increase preference for their brands. The study recommends that mobile brands consider and research their prospects' and customers' social, hedonic, and utilitarian needs to provide them with desired products and experiences. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20intelligence" title="artificial intelligence">artificial intelligence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuance%20usage" title=" continuance usage"> continuance usage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=customer%20experience" title=" customer experience"> customer experience</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smartphone%20industry" title=" smartphone industry"> smartphone industry</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/173354/the-mediating-role-of-artificial-intelligence-ai-driven-customer-experience-in-the-relationship-between-ai-voice-assistants-and-brand-usage-continuance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/173354.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">80</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> Objective Assessment of the Evolution of Microplastic Contamination in Sediments from a Vast Coastal Area</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Morgado">Vanessa Morgado</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ricardo%20Bettencourt%20da%20Silva"> Ricardo Bettencourt da Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carla%20Palma"> Carla Palma</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The environmental pollution by microplastics is well recognized. Microplastics were already detected in various matrices from distinct environmental compartments worldwide, some from remote areas. Various methodologies and techniques have been used to determine microplastic in such matrices, for instance, sediment samples from the ocean bottom. In order to determine microplastics in a sediment matrix, the sample is typically sieved through a 5 mm mesh, digested to remove the organic matter, and density separated to isolate microplastics from the denser part of the sediment. The physical analysis of microplastic consists of visual analysis under a stereomicroscope to determine particle size, colour, and shape. The chemical analysis is performed by an infrared spectrometer coupled to a microscope (micro-FTIR), allowing to the identification of the chemical composition of microplastic, i.e., the type of polymer. Creating legislation and policies to control and manage (micro)plastic pollution is essential to protect the environment, namely the coastal areas. The regulation is defined from the known relevance and trends of the pollution type. This work discusses the assessment of contamination trends of a 700 km² oceanic area affected by contamination heterogeneity, sampling representativeness, and the uncertainty of the analysis of collected samples. The methodology developed consists of objectively identifying meaningful variations of microplastic contamination by the Monte Carlo simulation of all uncertainty sources. This work allowed us to unequivocally conclude that the contamination level of the studied area did not vary significantly between two consecutive years (2018 and 2019) and that PET microplastics are the major type of polymer. The comparison of contamination levels was performed for a 99% confidence level. The developed know-how is crucial for the objective and binding determination of microplastic contamination in relevant environmental compartments. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=measurement%20uncertainty" title="measurement uncertainty">measurement uncertainty</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-ATR-FTIR" title=" micro-ATR-FTIR"> micro-ATR-FTIR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microplastics" title=" microplastics"> microplastics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ocean%20contamination" title=" ocean contamination"> ocean contamination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sampling%20uncertainty" title=" sampling uncertainty"> sampling uncertainty</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162613/objective-assessment-of-the-evolution-of-microplastic-contamination-in-sediments-from-a-vast-coastal-area" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162613.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">89</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Best Combination of Design Parameters for Buildings with Buckling-Restrained Braces</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%81ngel%20de%20J.%20L%C3%B3pez-P%C3%A9rez">Ángel de J. As a solution to the structural and non-structural damage caused by intense ground motions, several seismic energy dissipating devices, such as buckling-restrained braces (BRB), have been proposed. BRB have shown to be effective in concentrating a large portion of the energy transmitted to the structure by the seismic ground motion. A design approach for buildings with BRB elements, which is based on a seismic Displacement-Based formulation, has recently been proposed by the coauthors in this paper. It is a practical and easy design method which simplifies the work of structural engineers. The method is used here for the design of the structure-BRB damper system. The objective of the present study is to extend and apply a methodology to find the best combination of design parameters on multiple-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) structural frame &ndash; BRB systems, taking into account simultaneously: 1) initial costs and 2) an adequate engineering demand parameter. The design parameters considered here are: the stiffness ratio (&alpha; = K<sub>frame</sub>/K<sub>total</sub>), and the strength ratio (&gamma; = V<sub>damper</sub>/V<sub>total</sub>); where K represents structural stiffness and V structural strength; and the subscripts &quot;frame&quot;, &quot;damper&quot; and &quot;total&quot; represent: the structure without dampers, the BRB dampers and the total frame-damper system, respectively. The selection of the best combination of design parameters &alpha; and &gamma; is based on an initial costs analysis and on the structural dynamic response of the structural frame-damper system. The methodology is applied to a 12-story 5-bay steel building with BRB, which is located on the intermediate soil of Mexico City. It is found the best combination of design parameters &alpha; and &gamma; for the building with BRB under study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=best%20combination%20of%20design%20parameters" title="best combination of design parameters">best combination of design parameters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BRB" title=" BRB"> BRB</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buildings%20with%20energy%20dissipating%20devices" title=" buildings with energy dissipating devices"> buildings with energy dissipating devices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buckling-restrained%20braces" title=" buckling-restrained braces"> buckling-restrained braces</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20costs" title=" initial costs"> initial costs</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59780/best-combination-of-design-parameters-for-buildings-with-buckling-restrained-braces" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59780.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">258</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Use of SUDOKU Design to Assess the Implications of the Block Size and Testing Order on Efficiency and Precision of Dulce De Leche Preference Estimation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J%C3%A9ssica%20Ferreira%20Rodrigues">Jéssica Ferreira Rodrigues</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J%C3%BAlio%20Silvio%20De%20Sousa%20Bueno%20Filho"> Júlio Silvio De Sousa Bueno Filho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20Rios%20De%20Souza"> Vanessa Rios De Souza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Carla%20Marques%20Pinheiro"> Ana Carla Marques Pinheiro</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study aimed to evaluate the implications of the block size and testing order on efficiency and precision of preference estimation for Dulce de leche samples. Efficiency was defined as the inverse of the average variance of pairwise comparisons among treatments. Precision was defined as the inverse of the variance of treatment means (or effects) estimates. The experiment was originally designed to test 16 treatments as a series of 8 Sudoku 16x16 designs being 4 randomized independently and 4 others in the reverse order, to yield balance in testing order. Linear mixed models were assigned to the whole experiment with 112 testers and all their grades, as well as their partially balanced subgroups, namely: a) experiment with the four initial EU; b) experiment with EU 5 to 8; c) experiment with EU 9 to 12; and b) experiment with EU 13 to 16. To record responses we used a nine-point hedonic scale, it was assumed a mixed linear model analysis with random tester and treatments effects and with fixed test order effect. Analysis of a cumulative random effects probit link model was very similar, with essentially no different conclusions and for simplicity, we present the results using Gaussian assumption. R-CRAN library lme4 and its function lmer (Fit Linear Mixed-Effects Models) was used for the mixed models and libraries Bayesthresh (default Gaussian threshold function) and ordinal with the function clmm (Cumulative Link Mixed Model) was used to check Bayesian analysis of threshold models and cumulative link probit models. It was noted that the number of samples tested in the same session can influence the acceptance level, underestimating the acceptance. However, proving a large number of samples can help to improve the samples discrimination. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acceptance" title="acceptance">acceptance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=block%20size" title=" block size"> block size</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed%20linear%20model" title=" mixed linear model"> mixed linear model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=testing%20order" title=" testing order"> testing order</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=testing%20order" title=" testing order"> testing order</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72560/use-of-sudoku-design-to-assess-the-implications-of-the-block-size-and-testing-order-on-efficiency-and-precision-of-dulce-de-leche-preference-estimation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72560.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">321</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> Evaluation of Methods for Simultaneous Extraction and Purification of Fungal and Bacterial DNA from Vaginal Swabs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20De%20Carvalho">Vanessa De Carvalho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chad%20MacPherson"> Chad MacPherson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Julien%20Tremblay"> Julien Tremblay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Julie%20Champagne"> Julie Champagne</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stephanie-Anne%20Girard"> Stephanie-Anne Girard</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: The interactions between bacteria and fungi in the human vaginal microbiome are fundamental to the concept of health and disease. The means by which the microbiota and mycobiota interact is still poorly understood and further studies are necessary to properly characterize this complex ecosystem. The aim of this study was to select a DNA extraction method capable of recovering high qualities of fungal and bacterial DNA from a single vaginal swab. Methods: 11 female volunteers ( ≥ 20 to < 55 years old) self-collected vaginal swabs in triplicates. Three commercial extraction kits: Masterpure Yeast Purification kit (Epicenter), PureLink™ Microbiome DNA Purification kit (Invitrogen), and Quick-DNA™ Fecal/Soil Microbe Miniprep kit (Zymo) were evaluated on the ability to recover fungal and bacterial DNA simultaneously. The extraction kits were compared on the basis of recovery, yield, purity, and the community richness of bacterial (16S rRNA - V3-V4 region) and fungal (ITS1) microbiota composition by Illumina MiSeq amplicon sequencing. Results: Recovery of bacterial DNA was achieved with all three kits while fungal DNA was only consistently recovered with Masterpure Yeast Purification kit (yield and purity). Overall, all kits displayed similar microbiota profiles for the top 20 OTUs; however, Quick-DNA™ Fecal/Soil Microbe Miniprep kit (Zymo) showed more species richness than the other two kits. Conclusion: In the present study, Masterpure Yeast purification kit proved to be a good candidate for purification of high quality fungal and bacterial DNA simultaneously. These findings have potential benefits that could be applied in future vaginal microbiome research. Whilst the use of a single extraction method would lessen the burden of multiple swab sampling, decrease laboratory workload and off-set costs associated with multiple DNA extractions, thoughtful consideration must be taken when selecting an extraction kit depending on the desired downstream application. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bacterial%20vaginosis" title="bacterial vaginosis">bacterial vaginosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20extraction" title=" DNA extraction"> DNA extraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microbiota" title=" microbiota"> microbiota</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mycobiota" title=" mycobiota"> mycobiota</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vagina" title=" vagina"> vagina</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vulvovaginal%20candidiasis" title=" vulvovaginal candidiasis"> vulvovaginal candidiasis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=women%E2%80%99s%20health" title=" women’s health"> women’s health</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95405/evaluation-of-methods-for-simultaneous-extraction-and-purification-of-fungal-and-bacterial-dna-from-vaginal-swabs" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95405.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">201</span> </span> </div> </div> <ul class="pagination"> <li class="page-item disabled"><span class="page-link">&lsaquo;</span></li> <li class="page-item active"><span class="page-link">1</span></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20A.%20Julliete&amp;page=2">2</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanessa%20A.%20Julliete&amp;page=2" rel="next">&rsaquo;</a></li> </ul> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
