To overcome the deficiencies of previous models and increase the explanatory power of fuzzy data, the graded mean integration (GMI) representation is applied to determine representative crisp regression coefficients. A fuzzy regression model is constructed based on the modified dissemblance index (MDI), which can precisely measure the actual total error. Compared with previous studies based on the proposed MDI and distance criterion, the results from commonly used test examples show that the proposed fuzzy linear regression model has higher explanatory power and forecasting accuracy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dissemblance%20index" title="dissemblance index">dissemblance index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20linear%20regression" title=" fuzzy linear regression"> fuzzy linear regression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graded%20mean%20integration" title=" graded mean integration"> graded mean integration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematical%20programming" title=" mathematical programming"> mathematical programming</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9968/a-fuzzy-linear-regression-model-based-on-dissemblance-index" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9968.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">438</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6513</span> Exposing Investor Sentiment In Stock Returns</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qiang%20Bu">Qiang Bu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper compares the explanatory power of sentiment level and sentiment shock. This research has analyzed the growth in state-level ASD prevalence against 45 different potentially explanatory factors, including socio-economic, demographic, healthcare, public policy, and political factors. The goal was to understand if these factors have adequate predictive power in modeling the differential growth in ASD prevalence across various states and if they do, which factors are the most influential. The key findings of this study include (1) the confirmation that the chosen feature set has considerable power in predicting the growth in ASD prevalence, (2) the identification of the most influential predictive factors, (3) given the nature of the most influential predictive variables, an indication that a considerable portion of the reported ASD prevalence differentials across states could be attributable to over and under diagnosis, and (4) identification of Florida as a key outlier state pointing to a potential under-diagnosis of ASD there. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=autism%20spectrum%20disorder" title="autism spectrum disorder">autism spectrum disorder</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clustering" title=" clustering"> clustering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=predictive%20modeling" title=" predictive modeling"> predictive modeling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159340/a-machine-learning-based-analysis-of-autism-prevalence-rates-across-us-states-against-multiple-potential-explanatory-variables" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159340.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">102</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6511</span> Supervised-Component-Based Generalised Linear Regression with Multiple Explanatory Blocks: THEME-SCGLR</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bry%20X.">Bry X.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Trottier%20C."> Trottier C.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mortier%20F."> Mortier F.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cornu%20G."> Cornu G.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Verron%20T."> Verron T.</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We address component-based regularization of a Multivariate Generalized Linear Model (MGLM). A set of random responses Y is assumed to depend, through a GLM, on a set X of explanatory variables, as well as on a set T of additional covariates. X is partitioned into R conceptually homogeneous blocks X1, ... , XR , viewed as explanatory themes. Variables in each Xr are assumed many and redundant. Thus, Generalised Linear Regression (GLR) demands regularization with respect to each Xr. By contrast, variables in T are assumed selected so as to demand no regularization. Regularization is performed searching each Xr for an appropriate number of orthogonal components that both contribute to model Y and capture relevant structural information in Xr. We propose a very general criterion to measure structural relevance (SR) of a component in a block, and show how to take SR into account within a Fisher-scoring-type algorithm in order to estimate the model. We show how to deal with mixed-type explanatory variables. The method, named THEME-SCGLR, is tested on simulated data. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Component-Model" title="Component-Model">Component-Model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fisher%20Scoring%20Algorithm" title=" Fisher Scoring Algorithm"> Fisher Scoring Algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GLM" title=" GLM"> GLM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PLS%20Regression" title=" PLS Regression"> PLS Regression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SCGLR" title=" SCGLR"> SCGLR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SEER" title=" SEER"> SEER</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=THEME" title=" THEME"> THEME</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19061/supervised-component-based-generalised-linear-regression-with-multiple-explanatory-blocks-theme-scglr" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19061.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">395</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6510</span> Explaining Listening Comprehension among L2 Learners of English: The Contribution of Vocabulary Knowledge and Working Memory Capacity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Masrai">Ahmed Masrai</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Listening comprehension constitutes a considerable challenge for the second language (L2) learners, but a little is known about the explanatory power of different variables in explaining variance in listening comprehension. Since research in this area, to the researcher's knowledge, is relatively small in comparison to that focusing on the relationship between reading comprehension and factors such as vocabulary and working memory, there is a need for studies that are seeking to fill the gap in our knowledge about the specific contribution of working memory capacity (WMC), aural vocabulary knowledge and written vocabulary knowledge to explaining listening comprehension. Among 130 English as foreign language learners, the present study examines what proportion of the variance in listening comprehension is explained by aural vocabulary knowledge, written vocabulary knowledge, and WMC. Four measures were used to collect the required data for the study: (1) A-Lex, a measure of aural vocabulary knowledge; (2) XK-Lex, a measure of written vocabulary knowledge; (3) Listening Span Task, a measure of WMC and; (4) IELTS Listening Test, a measure of listening comprehension. The results show that aural vocabulary knowledge is the strongest predictor of listening comprehension, followed by WMC, while written vocabulary knowledge is the weakest predictor. The study discusses implications for the explanatory power of aural vocabulary knowledge and WMC to listening comprehension and pedagogical practice in L2 classrooms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=listening%20comprehension" title="listening comprehension">listening comprehension</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=second%20language" title=" second language"> second language</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vocabulary%20knowledge" title=" vocabulary knowledge"> vocabulary knowledge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=working%20memory" title=" working memory"> working memory</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78914/explaining-listening-comprehension-among-l2-learners-of-english-the-contribution-of-vocabulary-knowledge-and-working-memory-capacity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78914.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">383</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6509</span> Characteristics of the Poor in Malaysia: Evidence from E-Kasih Database an Explanatory Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zunaidah%20Ab%20Hasan">Zunaidah Ab Hasan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azhana%20Othman"> Azhana Othman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abd%20Halim%20Mohd%20Noor"> Abd Halim Mohd Noor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nor%20Shahrina%20Mohd%20Rafien"> Nor Shahrina Mohd Rafien</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study highlights some of the factors of the poor in Malaysia by household and individual level. The discussion covers the demographic, economic and social aspects. The data is derived from the National Databank of Poverty Malaysia (eKasih) for the year of 2013. The explanatory analysis is used to analyse factor of poverty in Malaysia specifically in Malacca. The evidence confirms that male are prone to be poor. For the ethnic, majority of the poor are Malays. The number of dependency and unskilled head of household also contributes to the factors to be poor. Despite that health and physical condition condition does not affect the household head is likely to be poor. Based on TCE, the research distinguishes control and coordination as different functions of the contract to investigate their complexity separately. And in a nuanced way, the dimensionality of contractual control is examined. Through the analysis of motivation and capability of strong or weak form opportunism, the framework focuses on the relationship between the complexity of above contractual dimensions and different types of opportunistic behavior and attempts to verify the possible explanatory mechanism. The explanatory power of the research model is evaluated in the light of empirical evidence from questionnaires. We collect data from Chinese companies in the construction industry, and the data collection is still in progress. The findings will speak to the debate surrounding the effects of contract complexity on opportunistic behavior. This nuanced research will derive implications for research on the role of contractual mechanisms in dealing with inter-organizational opportunism and offer suggestions for curbing contract parties’ opportunistic behavior in construction projects. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contractual%20complexity" title="contractual complexity">contractual complexity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contractual%20control" title=" contractual control"> contractual control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contractual%20coordinatio" title=" contractual coordinatio"> contractual coordinatio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=opportunistic%20behavior" title=" opportunistic behavior"> opportunistic behavior</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67361/contractual-complexity-and-contract-parties-opportunistic-behavior-in-construction-projects-in-a-contractual-function-view" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67361.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">384</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6507</span> Characterization and Predictors of Community Integration of People with Psychiatric Problems: Comparisons with the General Population</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J.%20Cabral">J. However, there are few studies that explore which factors can be associated and predict community integration. Moreover, community integration has been mostly studied in minority groups, and currently literature on the definition and manifestation of community integration in the more general population is scarce. Thus, the current study aims to characterize community integration and explore possible predictor variables in a sample of participants with psychiatric problems (PP, N=183) and a sample of participants from the general population (GP, N=211). Results show that people with psychiatric problems present above average values of community integration, but are significantly lower than their healthy counterparts. It was also possible to observe that community integration does not vary in terms of the socio-demographic characteristics of both groups in this study. Correlation and multiple regression showed that, among several variables that literature present as relevant in the community integration process, only three variables emerged as having the most explanatory value in community integration of both groups: sense of community, basic needs satisfaction and submission. These results also shown that those variables have increased explanatory power in the PP sample, which leads us to emphasize the need to address this issue in future studies and increase the understanding of the factors that can be involved in the promotion of community integration, in order to devise more effective interventions in this field. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=community%20integration" title="community integration">community integration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mental%20illness" title=" mental illness"> mental illness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=predictors" title=" predictors"> predictors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=psychiatric%20problems" title=" psychiatric problems"> psychiatric problems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29436/characterization-and-predictors-of-community-integration-of-people-with-psychiatric-problems-comparisons-with-the-general-population" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29436.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">487</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6506</span> Power, Pluralism, and History: Norms in International Societies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicole%20Cervenka">Nicole Cervenka</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> On the question of norms in international politics, scholars are divided over whether norms are a tool for power politics or a genuine reflection of an emergent international society. The line is drawn between rationalism and idealism, but this dialectical relationship needs to be broken down if we hope to come to a comprehensive understanding of how norms play out in international society. The concept of an elusive international society is a simplification of a more pluralistic, cosmopolitan, and diverse collection of international societies. The English School effectively overcomes realist-idealist dichotomies and provides a pluralistic, comprehensive explanation and description of international societies through its application to two distinct areas: human rights as well as security and war. We argue that international norms have always been present in human rights, war, and international security, forming international societies that can be complimentary or oppositional, beneficial or problematic. Power politics are present, but they can only be regarded as partially explanatory of the role of norms in international politics, which must also include history, international law, the media, NGOs, and others to fully represent the normative influences in international societies. A side-by-side comparison of international norms of war/security and human rights show how much international societies converge. World War II was a turning point in terms of international law, these forces of international society have deeper historical roots. Norms of human rights and war/security are often norms of restraint, guiding appropriate treatment of individuals. This can at times give primacy to the individual over the sovereign state. However, state power politics and hegemony are still intact. It cannot be said that there is an emergent international society—international societies are part of broader historical backdrops. Furthermore, states and, more generally, power politics, are important components in international societies, but international norms are far from mere tools of power politics. They define a more diverse, complicated, and ever-present conception of international societies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=English%20school" title="English school">English school</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=international%20societies" title=" international societies"> international societies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=norms" title=" norms"> norms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pluralism" title=" pluralism"> pluralism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27315/power-pluralism-and-history-norms-in-international-societies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27315.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">384</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6505</span> Towards Developing a Self-Explanatory Scheduling System Based on a Hybrid Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jian%20Zheng">Jian Zheng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yoshiyasu%20Takahashi"> Yoshiyasu Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuichi%20Kobayashi"> Yuichi Kobayashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tatsuhiro%20Sato"> Tatsuhiro Sato</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the study, we present a conceptual framework for developing a scheduling system that can generate self-explanatory and easy-understanding schedules. To this end, a user interface is conceived to help planners record factors that are considered crucial in scheduling, as well as internal and external sources relating to such factors. A hybrid approach combining machine learning and constraint programming is developed to generate schedules and the corresponding factors, and accordingly display them on the user interface. Effects of the proposed system on scheduling are discussed, and it is expected that scheduling efficiency and system understandability will be improved, compared with previous scheduling systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constraint%20programming" title="constraint programming">constraint programming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=factors%20considered%20in%20scheduling" title=" factors considered in scheduling"> factors considered in scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scheduling%20system" title=" scheduling system"> scheduling system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43995/towards-developing-a-self-explanatory-scheduling-system-based-on-a-hybrid-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43995.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">324</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6504</span> Soft Power: Concept and Role in Country Policy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Talip%20Turkmen">Talip Turkmen</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> From the moment the first beats, the first step into the world mankind finds him in a struggle to survive. Most important case to win this fight is power. Power is one of the most common concepts which we encounter in our life. Mainly power is ability to reach desired results on someone else or ability to penetrate into the behavior of others. Throughout history merging technology and changing political trade-offs caused the change of concept of power. Receiving a state of multipolar new world order in the 21st century and increasing impacts of media have narrowed the limits of military power. With increasing globalization and peaceful diplomacy this gap, left by military power, has filled by soft power which has ability to persuade and attract. As concepts of power soft power also has not compromised yet. For that reason it is important to specify, sources of soft power, soft power strategies and limits of soft power. The purpose of this study was to analyze concept of soft power and importance of soft power in foreign relations. This project focuses on power, hard power and soft power relations, sources of soft power and strategies to gain soft power. Datas in this project was acquired from other studies on soft power and foreign relations. This paper was prepared in terms of concept and research techniques. As a result of data gained in this study the one of important topics in international relations is balance between soft power. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soft%20power" title="soft power">soft power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=foreign%20policy" title=" foreign policy"> foreign policy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=national%20power" title=" national power"> national power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hard%20power" title=" hard power"> hard power</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33910/soft-power-concept-and-role-in-country-policy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33910.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">460</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6503</span> Reactive Power Cost Evaluation with FACTS Devices in Restructured Power System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20S.%20Walkey">A. Soft power can be defined as the capability of changing perception of any target mass by employing policies based on legality. The hard power, generally, uses military and economic instruments which are the concrete indicator of general power comprehension. More than providing a balance between soft and hard power, smart power creates a proactive combination by assessing existing resources. Military targeting process (MTP), as stated in smart power methodology, benefits from a wide scope of lethal and non-lethal weapons to reach intended end state. The Smart powers components can be used in military targeting process similar to using of lethal or non-lethal weapons. This paper investigates the current use of Smart power concept, MTP and presents a new approach to MTP from smart power concept point of view. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=future%20security%20environment" title="future security environment">future security environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hard%20power" title=" hard power"> hard power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=military%20targeting%20process" title=" military targeting process"> military targeting process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soft%20power" title=" soft power"> soft power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smart%20power" title=" smart power"> smart power</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32050/the-using-of-smart-power-concepts-in-military-targeting-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32050.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">475</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6500</span> Power Quality Evaluation of Electrical Distribution Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Idris%20S.%20Abozaed">Mohamed Idris S. This sudden increase in the number of concerns over power quality problems is a result of the huge increase in the use of non-linear loads. In this paper, power quality evaluation of some distribution networks at Misurata - Libya has been done using a power quality and energy analyzer (Fluke 437 Series II). The results of this evaluation are used to minimize the problems of power quality. The analysis shows the main power quality problems that exist and the level of awareness of power quality issues with the aim of generating a start point which can be used as guidelines for researchers and end users in the field of power systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20quality%20disturbances" title="power quality disturbances">power quality disturbances</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20quality%20evaluation" title=" power quality evaluation"> power quality evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=statistical%20analysis" title=" statistical analysis"> statistical analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrical%20distribution%20networks" title=" electrical distribution networks "> electrical distribution networks </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11250/power-quality-evaluation-of-electrical-distribution-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11250.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">533</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6499</span> A Succinct Method for Allocation of Reactive Power Loss in Deregulated Scenario</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J.%20S.%20Savier">J. If the reactive power is compensated at the consumer end, the need for reactive power flow from generators to the load can be avoided and hence the overall power loss can be reduced. The aim of this study was analyze the effect of social anxiety on school functioning in Secondary Education. Specifically, we examined the relationship between social anxiety and self-concept, academic goals, causal attributions, intellectual aptitudes, and learning strategies, personality traits, and academic performance, with the purpose of creating a causal-explanatory model of academic performance. The sample consisted of 2,022 students in the seven to ten grades of Compulsory Secondary Education in Spain (M = 13.18; SD = 1.35; 51.1% boys). We found that: (a) social anxiety has a direct positive effect on internal attributional style, and a direct negative effect on self-concept. Social anxiety also has an indirect negative effect on internal causal attributions; (b) prior performance (first academic trimester) exerts a direct positive effect on intelligence, achievement goals, academic self-concept, and final academic performance (third academic trimester), and a direct negative effect on internal causal attributions. It also has an indirect positive effect on causal attributions (internal and external), learning goals, achievement goals, and study strategies; (c) intelligence has a direct positive effect on learning goals and academic performance (third academic trimester); (d) academic self-concept has a direct positive effect on internal and external attributional style. Also, has an indirect effect on learning goals, achievement goals, and learning strategies; (e) internal attributional style has a direct positive effect on learning strategies and learning goals. Has a positive but indirect effect on achievement goals and learning strategies; (f) external attributional style has a direct negative effect on learning strategies and learning goals and a direct positive effect on internal causal attributions; (g) learning goals have direct positive effect on learning strategies and achievement goals. The structural equation model fit the data well (CFI = .91; RMSEA = .04), explaining 93.8% of the variance in academic performance. Finally, we emphasize that the new causal-explanatory model proposed in the present study represents a significant contribution in that it includes social anxiety as an explanatory variable of cognitive-motivational constructs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=academic%20performance" title="academic performance">academic performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adolescence" title=" adolescence"> adolescence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive-motivational%20variables" title=" cognitive-motivational variables"> cognitive-motivational variables</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20anxiety" title=" social anxiety"> social anxiety</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62729/causal-explanatory-model-of-academic-performance-in-social-anxious-adolescents" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62729.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">332</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6494</span> Power Integrity Analysis of Power Delivery System in High Speed Digital FPGA Board</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anil%20Kumar%20Pandey">Anil Kumar Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Power plane noise is the most significant source of signal integrity (SI) issues in a high-speed digital design. All 10 power planes of HSD board are analyzed separately by using 3D Electromagnetic based PI solver, then the transient simulation is performed on combined PI data of all planes along with voltage regulator modules (VRMs) and 70 current drawing chips to get the board level power noise coupling on different high-speed signals. De-coupling capacitors are placed between power planes and ground to reduce power noise coupling with signals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20integrity" title="power integrity">power integrity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power-aware%20signal%20integrity%20analysis" title=" power-aware signal integrity analysis"> power-aware signal integrity analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20simulation" title=" electromagnetic simulation"> electromagnetic simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=channel%20simulation" title=" channel simulation"> channel simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48620/power-integrity-analysis-of-power-delivery-system-in-high-speed-digital-fpga-board" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48620.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">436</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6493</span> Nietzsche&#039;s &#039;Will to Power&#039; as a Potentially Irrational-Rational Psychopathology: How and Why Amor Fati May Prove to Be Its &#039;Horse Whisperer&#039;</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nikolai%20David%20Blaskow">Nikolai David Blaskow</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nietzsche's scholarship in the main has never quite resolved its deeply divided, at times self-contradictory responses to what Friedrich Nietzsche might have actually meant by his notion of the 'will to power'. Yet, in the context of the current global pandemic and climate change crisis, never has there been a more urgent need to investigate and resolve that contradiction. This paper argues for the 'will to power' as being a potentially irrational-rational psychopathology, one that can properly be understood only by means of Nietzsche's agonistic insights into another psychopathology—that of ressentiment. The argument also makes a case for the contention that amor fati (Nietzsche’s positive affirmation of life) may prove to be ressentiment's cure. In addition, as an integral part of the case’s methodology, the lens defined as the Mimetic and Scapegoat theory of Rene Girard (1923-2015) is brought to bear on resolving the contradiction. Ressentiment and Mimetic Theory will prove to be key players in the investigation, in as much as they expose the reasons for a modernity in crisis. The major finding of this study is that when the explanatory power of the two theories is applied, an understanding of the dynamics of the crisis in which we find ourselves emerges. The keys to that insight will include: (1) how these two psychopathologies closely resemble the contemporary neurologically defined 'borderline conditions' and their implications for culture (2) how identity politics stifle exemplary leadership, and so create toxic cultures (3) a critical assessment of Achille Mbembe's (2019) re-working of Frantz Fanon's 'ethics of the passerby' and its resonances with Nietzsche's amor fati. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agon" title="agon">agon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=amor%20fati" title=" amor fati"> amor fati</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=borderline%20conditions" title=" borderline conditions"> borderline conditions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethics%20of%20the%20passer%20by" title=" ethics of the passer by"> ethics of the passer by</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exemplary%20leadership" title=" exemplary leadership"> exemplary leadership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=identity%20politics" title=" identity politics"> identity politics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mimesis" title=" mimesis"> mimesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ressentiment" title=" ressentiment"> ressentiment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scapegoat%20mechanism" title=" scapegoat mechanism"> scapegoat mechanism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133526/nietzsches-will-to-power-as-a-potentially-irrational-rational-psychopathology-how-and-why-amor-fati-may-prove-to-be-its-horse-whisperer" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133526.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">252</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6492</span> All Optical Wavelength Conversion Based On Four Wave Mixing in Optical Fiber</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Surinder%20Singh">Surinder Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gursewak%20Singh%20Lovkesh"> Gursewak Singh Lovkesh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We have designed wavelength conversion based on four wave mixing in an optical fiber at 10 Gb/s. Question (I) arises from the doubt that since observation is the basis of all our factual knowledge, unobservable entities cannot be known. Question (II) arises from the doubt that since scientific representations are inextricably laden with the subjective, idiosyncratic, and a priori features of human cognition and scientific practice, they cannot convey any reliable information on how their objects are in themselves. A way of understanding scientific realism (SR) is through three lines of inquiry: ontological, semantic, and epistemological. Ontologically, scientific realism asserts the existence of a world independent of human mind. Semantically, scientific realism assumes that theoretical claims about reality show truth values and, thus, should be construed literally. Epistemologically, scientific realism believes that theoretical claims offer us knowledge of the world. Nowadays, the literature on scientific realism has proceeded rather far beyond the realism versus antirealism debate. This stance represents a middle-ground position between the two according to which science can attain justified true beliefs concerning relational facts about the unobservable realm but cannot attain justified true beliefs concerning the intrinsic nature of any objects occupying that realm. That is, the structural content of scientific theories about the unobservable can be known, but facts about the intrinsic nature of the entities that figure as place-holders in those structures cannot be known. There are two possible versions of SR: Epistemological Structural Realism (ESR) and Ontic Structural Realism (OSR). On ESR, an agnostic stance is preserved with respect to the natures of unobservable entities, but the possibility of knowing the relations obtaining between those entities is affirmed. OSR includes the rather striking claim that when it comes to the unobservables theorized about within fundamental physics, relations exist, but objects do not. Focusing on ESR, questions arise concerning its ability to explain the empirical success of a theory. Empirical success certainly involves predictive success, and predictive success implies a theory’s power to make accurate predictions. But a theory’s power to make any predictions at all seems to derive precisely from its core axioms or laws concerning unobservable entities and mechanisms, and not simply the sort of structural relations often expressed in equations. The specific challenge to ESR concerns its ability to explain the explanatory and predictive power of successful theories without appealing to their substantive ontologies, which are often not preserved by their successors. The response to this challenge will depend on the various and subtle different versions of ESR and OSR stances, which show a sort of progression through eliminativist OSR to moderate OSR of gradual increase in the ontological status accorded to objects. Knowing the relations between unobserved entities is methodologically identical to assert that these relations between unobserved entities exist. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eliminativist%20ontic%20structural%20realism" title="eliminativist ontic structural realism">eliminativist ontic structural realism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=epistemological%20structuralism" title=" epistemological structuralism"> epistemological structuralism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=moderate%20ontic%20structural%20realism" title=" moderate ontic structural realism"> moderate ontic structural realism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ontic%20structuralism" title=" ontic structuralism"> ontic structuralism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115437/the-predictive-power-of-successful-scientific-theories-an-explanatory-study-on-their-substantive-ontologies-through-theoretical-change" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115437.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">118</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6490</span> Carrier Communication through Power Lines</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pavuluri%20Gopikrishna">Pavuluri Gopikrishna</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B.%20Neelima"> B. The main objective of this suggested work is to transmit our message signal after frequency modulation by the help of FM modulator IC LM565 which gives output proportional to the input voltage of the input message signal. And this audio power is received from the power line by the help of isolation circuit and demodulated from IC LM565 which uses the concept of the PLL and produces FM demodulated signal to the listener. Message signal will be transmitted over the carrier signal that will be generated from the FM modulator IC LM565. Using this message signal will not damage because of no direct contact of message signal from the power line, but noise can disturb our information. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=amplification" title="amplification">amplification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fm%20demodulator%20ic%20565" title=" fm demodulator ic 565"> fm demodulator ic 565</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fm%20modulator%20ic%20565" title=" fm modulator ic 565"> fm modulator ic 565</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phase%20locked%20loop" title=" phase locked loop"> phase locked loop</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20isolation" title=" power isolation"> power isolation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31017/carrier-communication-through-power-lines" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31017.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">552</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6489</span> Investigation of Magnetic Resonance Wireless Charger Efficiency for Mobile Device</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SeungHee%20Ryu">SeungHee Ryu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Junil%20Moon"> Junil Moon</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The magnetic resonance wireless power transfer system is widely researched due to its benefits such as spatial freedom. We examine whether cultural factors play any role in determining dividend payout policy in banks. The results suggest that banks in high masculinity countries tend to pay higher dividends than low masculinity countries. The results also show that banks in high uncertainty avoidance (UA) countries tend to pay lower dividends than high UA countries. Additionally, the results of this study indicate that banks in high long-term orientation (LTO) countries tend to pay lower dividends than low LTO countries. However, two other cultural factors of power distance (PD) and individualism do not have any incremental explanatory power on the dividend payouts. Overall, this research adds to our understanding of the bank’s dividend payout policies. First, evidence on the relationship between the cultural factors and bank’s level of dividend payouts should be useful to investors.
