but she, from her poverty<MG5303>, put<MG906> in all<MG3956> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>that she had<MG2192> to live<MG979> on.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And while some<MG5100> were talking<MG3004> about<MG4012> the temple<MG2413>, that it was decorated<MG2885> with beautiful<MG2570> stones<MG3037> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>vowed<MG334> gifts<MG334>, He said<MG3004>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>“<i>As for</i> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> which<MG3739> you are observing<MG2334>, the days<MG2250> will come<MG2064> when<MG1722, 3739> there will not be left<MG863> <i>one</i> stone<MG3037> upon <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>another<MG3037>, which<MG3739> will not be torn<MG2647> down<MG2647>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>They asked<MG1905> Him questions<MG1905>, saying<MG3004>, “Teacher<MG1320>, when<MG4219> therefore<MG3767> will these<MG3778> things<MG3778> happen<MG1510>? And what<MG5101> <i>will be</i> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>sign<MG4592> when<MG3752> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> are<MG3195> about<MG3195> to<MG3195> take<MG1096> place<MG1096>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004>, “See<MG991> to it that you are not misled<MG4105>; for many<MG4183> will come<MG2064> in My name<MG3686>, saying<MG3004>, ‘I am<MG1510> <i>He,</i>’ and, ‘The time<MG2540> is near<MG1448>.’ Do not go<MG4198> after<MG3694> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And when<MG3752> you hear<MG191> of wars<MG4171> and revolts<MG181>, do not be alarmed<MG4422>; for these<MG3778> things<MG3778> must<MG1163> take<MG1096> place<MG1096> first<MG4413>, but the end<MG5056> <i>will</i> not <i>follow</i> immediately<MG2112>.” <p class="hdg">Things to Come</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> He <i>continued by</i> saying<MG3004> to them, “Nation<MG1484> will rise<MG1453> against<MG1909> nation<MG1484>, and kingdom<MG932> against<MG1909> kingdom<MG932>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>and there will be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>massive<MG3173> earthquakes<MG4578>, and in various<MG2596> places<MG5117> plagues<MG3061> and famines<MG3042>; and there will be terrible<MG5400> sights<MG5400> and great<MG3173> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>signs<MG4592> from heaven<MG3772>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“But before<MG4253> all<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, they will lay<MG1911> their hands<MG5495> on you and persecute<MG1377> you, turning<MG3860> you over<MG3860> to the synagogues<MG4864> and prisons<MG5438>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>bringing<MG520> you before<MG1909> kings<MG935> and governors<MG2232> on<MG1752a> account<MG1752a> of<MG1752a> My name<MG3686>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>It will lead<MG576> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>an opportunity for your testimony<MG3142>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So<MG3767> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>make<MG5087> up<MG5087> your minds<MG2588> not to prepare<MG4304> beforehand<MG4304> to defend<MG626> yourselves; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>for I will provide<MG1325> you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>eloquence<MG4750> and wisdom<MG4678> which<MG3739> none<MG3756, 537a> of your adversaries<MG480> will be able<MG1410> to oppose<MG436> or<MG2228> refute<MG471>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But you will be betrayed<MG3860> even<MG2532> by parents<MG1118>, brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters, other</i> relatives<MG4773a>, and friends<MG5384>, and they will put<MG2289> <i>some</i> of you to<MG2289> death<MG2289>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>and you will be hated<MG3404> by all<MG3956> people<MG3956> because<MG1223> of My name<MG3686>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And <i>yet</i> not a hair<MG2359> of your head<MG2776> will perish<MG622>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>By your endurance<MG5281> you will gain<MG2932> your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>lives<MG5590>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>“But when<MG3752> you see<MG3708> Jerusalem<MG2419> surrounded<MG2944> by armies<MG4760>, then<MG5119> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>recognize<MG1097> that her desolation<MG2050> is near<MG1448>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> those<MG3588> who<MG3588> are in Judea<MG2449> must flee<MG5343> to the mountains<MG3735>, and those<MG3588> who<MG3588> are inside<MG3319> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>the city<MG846> must leave<MG1633>, and those<MG3588> who<MG3588> are in the country<MG5561> must not enter<MG1525> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>the city<MG846>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>because<MG3754> these<MG3778> are days<MG2250> of punishment<MG1557>, so that all<MG3956> things<MG3956> which have been written<MG1125> will be fulfilled<MG4092a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Woe<MG3759> to those<MG3588> women<MG3588> who are pregnant<MG2192, 1722, 1064>, and to those<MG3588> who are nursing<MG2337> babies<MG2337> in those<MG3588> days<MG2250>; for there will be great<MG3173> distress<MG318> upon the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>land<MG1093>, and wrath<MG3709> to this<MG3778> people<MG2992>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>and they will fall<MG4098> by the edge<MG4750> of the sword<MG3162>, and will be led<MG163> captive<MG163> into all<MG3956> the nations<MG1484>; and Jerusalem<MG2419> will be trampled<MG3961> underfoot<MG3961> by the Gentiles<MG1484> until<MG891> <i>the</i> times<MG2540> of the Gentiles<MG1484> are fulfilled<MG4137>. <p class="hdg">The Return of Christ</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>“There will be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>signs<MG4592> in <i>the</i> sun<MG2246> and moon<MG4582> and stars<MG798>, and on the earth<MG1093> distress<MG4928> among nations<MG1484>, in perplexity<MG640> at the roaring<MG2279> of the sea<MG2281> and the waves<MG4535>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>people<MG444> fainting<MG674> from fear<MG5401> and the expectation<MG4329> of the things that are coming<MG1904> upon<MG1904> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>world<MG3625>; for the powers<MG1411> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>the heavens<MG3772> will be shaken<MG4531>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And then<MG5119> they will see<MG3708> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> coming<MG2064> in a cloud<MG3507> with power<MG1411> and great<MG4183> glory<MG1391>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>But when these<MG3778> things<MG3778> begin<MG757> to take<MG1096> place<MG1096>, straighten<MG352b> up<MG352b> and lift<MG1869> up<MG1869> your heads<MG2776>, because<MG1360> your redemption<MG629> is drawing<MG1448> near<MG1448>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And He told<MG3004> them a parable<MG3850b>: “Look<MG3708> at the fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808> and all<MG3956> the trees<MG1186>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>as<MG3752, 2235> soon<MG3752, 2235> as<MG3752, 2235> they put<MG4261> forth<MG4261> <i>leaves,</i> you see<MG991> for yourselves<MG1438> and know<MG1097> that summer<MG2330> is now<MG2235> near<MG1451>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>So<MG3779> you too<MG2532>, when<MG3752> you see<MG3708> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> happening<MG1096>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>recognize<MG1097> that the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> is near<MG1451>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, this<MG3778> generation<MG1074> will not pass<MG3928> away<MG3928> until<MG2193> all<MG3956> things<MG3956> take<MG1096> place<MG1096>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Heaven<MG3772> and earth<MG1093> will pass<MG3928> away<MG3928>, but My words<MG3056> will not pass<MG3928> away<MG3928>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/21-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>“But be on your guard<MG4337>, so<MG3379> that<MG3379> your hearts<MG2588> will not be weighed<MG916> down<MG916> with dissipation<MG2897> and drunkenness<MG3178> and the worries<MG3308> of<MG982> life<MG982>, and that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>this day<MG2250> will not come<MG2186> on you suddenly<MG160>, like<MG5613> a trap<MG3803>;
