This focus is evident in the teachings of Jesus and the writings of the apostles, who consistently pointed believers away from the mere observance of religious rituals and towards a vibrant, faith-filled life centered on Christ.<br><br><b>Jesus and the Pharisees</b><br><br>One of the clearest examples of this teaching is found in Jesus' interactions with the Pharisees. The Pharisees were known for their strict adherence to the Law and their emphasis on ritual purity. However, Jesus often criticized them for their focus on external observances while neglecting the weightier matters of the law, such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. In <a href="/matthew/23-23.htm">Matthew 23:23</a>, Jesus says, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
