but they could<MH3202> find<MH7912> no<MH3606, 3809> ground<MH5931> of<MH5931> accusation<MH5931> or <i>evidence of</i> corruption<MH7844>, because<MH6903, 1768> he was trustworthy<MH540>, and no<MH3606, 3809> negligence<MH7960> or corruption<MH7844> was <i>to be</i> found<MH7912> in him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then<MH116> these<MH479> men<MH1400> said<MH560>, “We will not find<MH7912> any<MH3606> ground<MH5931> of<MH5931> accusation<MH5931> against this<MH1836> Daniel<MH1841> unless<MH3861b> we find<MH7912> <i>it</i> against<MH5922> him regarding the law<MH1882> of his God<MH426>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then<MH116> these<MH459> commissioners<MH5632> and satraps<MH324> came<MH7284> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>by<MH7284> agreement<MH7284> to the king<MH4430> and spoke<MH560> to him as<MH3652> follows<MH3652>: “King<MH4430> Darius<MH1868>, live<MH2418> forever<MH5957>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>All<MH3606> the commissioners<MH5632> of the kingdom<MH4437>, the prefects<MH5460> and the satraps<MH324>, the counselors<MH1907> and the governors<MH6347>, have consulted<MH3272b> together<MH3272b> that the king<MH4430> should establish<MH6966> a statute<MH7010> and enforce<MH8631> an injunction<MH633> that anyone<MH3606> who<MH1768> offers<MH1156> a prayer<MH1159> to any<MH3606> god<MH426> or person<MH606> besides<MH3861b, 4481> you, O king<MH4430>, for thirty<MH8533b> days<MH3118>, shall be thrown<MH7412> into the lions’<MH744> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>den<MH1358>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now<MH3705>, O king<MH4430>, establish<MH6966> the injunction<MH633> and sign<MH7560> the document<MH3792> so<MH1768> that<MH1768> it will not be changed<MH8133>, according to the law<MH1882> of the Medes<MH4076> and Persians<MH6540>, which<MH1768> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>may not be revoked<MH5709>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Thereupon<MH6903, 1836>, King<MH4430> Darius<MH1868> signed<MH7560> the document<MH3792>, that is, the injunction<MH633>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now when<MH1768> Daniel<MH1841> learned<MH3046> that the document<MH3792> was signed<MH7560>, he entered<MH5954> his house<MH1005> (and in<MH5954> his roof<MH5952> chamber<MH5952> he had windows<MH3551> open<MH6606> toward<MH5049> Jerusalem<MH3390>); and he continued kneeling<MH1289> on his knees<MH1291> three<MH8532> times<MH2166> a day<MH3118>, praying<MH6739> and offering<MH3029> praise<MH3029> before<MH6925> his God<MH426>, just<MH6903> as he had been doing<MH5648> previously<MH4481, 6928>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Then<MH116> these<MH479> men<MH1400> came<MH7284> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>by<MH7284> agreement<MH7284> and found<MH7912> Daniel<MH1841> offering<MH1156> a<MH1156> prayer<MH1156> and imploring<MH2604> <i>favor</i> before<MH6925> his God<MH426>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then<MH116> they approached<MH7127> and spoke<MH560> before<MH6925> the king<MH4430> about<MH5922> the king’s<MH4430> injunction<MH633>: “Did you not sign<MH7560> an injunction<MH633> that any<MH3606> person<MH606> who<MH1768> offers<MH1156> a<MH1156> prayer<MH1156> to any<MH3606> god<MH426> or person<MH606> besides<MH3861b, 4481> you, O king<MH4430>, for thirty<MH8533b> days<MH3118>, is to be thrown<MH7412> into the lions’<MH744> den<MH1358>?” The king<MH4430> replied<MH6032>, “The statement<MH4406> is true<MH3330a>, according to the law<MH1882> of the Medes<MH4076> and Persians<MH6540>, which<MH1768> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>may not be revoked<MH5709>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then<MH116> they responded<MH6032> and spoke<MH560> before<MH6925> the king<MH4430>, “Daniel<MH1841>, who<MH1768> is one of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>exiles<MH1123, 1547> from Judah<MH3061>, pays<MH7761> no<MH3809> attention<MH2942> to you, O king<MH4430>, or to the injunction<MH633> which<MH1768> you signed<MH7560>, but keeps offering<MH1156> his prayer<MH1159> three<MH8532> times<MH2166> a day<MH3118>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then<MH116>, as soon<MH1768> as the king<MH4430> heard<MH8086> this statement<MH4406>, he was deeply<MH7690> distressed<MH888>, and set<MH7761> <i>his</i> mind<MH1079> on rescuing<MH7804> Daniel<MH1841>; and until<MH5705> sunset<MH4606, 8122> he kept exerting<MH7712> himself to save<MH5338> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Then<MH116> these<MH479> men<MH1400> came<MH7284> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>by<MH7284> agreement<MH7284> to the king<MH4430> and said<MH560> to the king<MH4430>, “Recognize<MH3046>, O king<MH4430>, that it is a law<MH1882> of the Medes<MH4076> and Persians<MH6540> that no<MH3606, 3809> injunction<MH633> or statute<MH7010> which<MH1768> the king<MH4430> establishes<MH6966> may be changed<MH8133>.” <p class="hdg">Daniel in the Lions’ Den</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Then<MH116> the king<MH4430> gave<MH560> orders<MH560>, and Daniel<MH1841> was brought<MH858> in and thrown<MH7412> into the lions’<MH744> den<MH1358>. The king<MH4430> said<MH560> to Daniel<MH1841>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Your God<MH426> whom<MH1768> you continually<MH8411> serve<MH6399> will Himself<MH1932> rescue<MH7804> you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And a stone<MH69> was brought<MH858> and placed<MH7761> over<MH5922> the mouth<MH6433> of the den<MH1358>; and the king<MH4430> sealed<MH2857> it with his own signet<MH5824> ring<MH5824> and with the signet<MH5824> rings<MH5824> of his nobles<MH7261>, so<MH1768> that<MH1768> nothing<MH3809, 6640> would be changed<MH8133> regarding Daniel<MH1841>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then<MH116> the king<MH4430> went<MH236> to his palace<MH1965> and spent<MH1006b> the<MH1006b> night<MH1006b> fasting<MH2908>, and no<MH3809> entertainment<MH1761a> was brought<MH5954> before<MH6925> him; and his sleep<MH8139> fled<MH5075> from him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then<MH116> the king<MH4430> got<MH6966> up<MH6966> at dawn<MH8238>, at the break<MH5053> of<MH5053> day<MH5053>, and went<MH236> in a hurry<MH927> to the lions’<MH744> den<MH1358>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And when he had come<MH7127> near<MH7127> the den<MH1358> to Daniel<MH1841>, he cried<MH2200> out<MH2200> with a troubled<MH6088> voice<MH7032a>. The king<MH4430> began<MH6032> speaking<MH6032> and said<MH560> to Daniel<MH1841>, “Daniel<MH1841>, servant<MH5649> of the living<MH2417> God<MH426>, has your God<MH426>, whom<MH1768> you continually<MH8411> serve<MH6399>, been<MH3202> able<MH3202> to rescue<MH7804> you from the lions<MH744>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then<MH116> Daniel<MH1841> spoke<MH4449> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>to the king<MH4430>, “O king<MH4430>, live<MH2418> forever<MH5957>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>My God<MH426> sent<MH7972> His angel<MH4398> and shut<MH5463> the lions’<MH744> mouths<MH6433>, and they have not harmed<MH2255> me, since<MH6903, 1768> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>I was found<MH7912> innocent<MH2136> before<MH6925> Him; and also<MH638> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>toward<MH6925> you, O king<MH4430>, I have committed<MH5648> no<MH3809> crime<MH2248>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/6-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Then<MH116> the king<MH4430> was very<MH7690> glad<MH2868> and gave<MH560> orders<MH560> for Daniel<MH1841> to be lifted<MH5559b> up<MH5559b> out of the den<MH1358>.
