We describe experiments conducted in our laboratory showing spatial navigation learning in amphibians and their dependence on a functional medial pallium (homologous area to the mammalian hippocampus). The results indicate that these animals use both the information provided by the geometry as visual cues, but when both types of reference are presented in conflict they prefer geometry to orient (as results found in amniotes). El uso de este modelo animal para estudiar la evolución de la cognición espacial, brinda la ventaja adicional, al no poseer neocorteza, de poder indagar acerca de los circuitos cerebrales básicos que subyacen a este tipo de conducta. En este trabajo se describen los distintos procedimientos y dispositivos experimentales que se utilizan para el estudio de las habilidades de orientación y navegación espacial en anfibios y sus bases neurales. Este trabajo consiste en el estudio de caso sobre la aplicación del Juego denominado “Conhecendo o Parque Ecológico” realizado sobre una población de 68 alumnos entre 10 y 12 años pertenecientes a una escuela de Brasil. El juego tiene un tablero con el mapa del Parque Ecológico Municipal de Ourinhos. Las sendas reales del Parque son los caminos que los jugadores deben recorre en el tablero para llegar al destino. Durante el recorrido, los jugadores entran en casillas donde aparecen interrogaciones, que corresponden a las cartas que tratan los siguientes temas: conocimiento del Parque del Municipio, conceptos cartográficos y cuestiones de conservación ambiental. La aplicación del juego ha supuesto comprobar que los alumnos se motivaran en la localización y orientación en el Parque con la ayuda de la rosa de los vientos. Los juegos de simulación realizados a partir de mapas, como representaciones reales de espacios conocidos, permiten al alumno desarrollar: la comprensión de la orientación espacial, la comprensión del concepto de escala y entender la importancia de la leyenda. Para tal propósito y con base en los resultados topográficos que se obtuvieron en el marco de la temporada de campo 2013-2014 del Proyecto Arqueológico Las Labradas, Sinaloa, es necesario abordar, aunque sea tangencialmente, el concepto de espacio y urbanismo. Durante el levantamiento topográfico se realizaron una serie de mediciones en Las Labradas y La Flor del Océano, con el fin de obtener un mapa topográfico georreferenciado de ambos sitios y poder analizarlo espacialmente. El resultado de no tomarla en cuenta es, por desgracia, que entonces los visitantes invierten tiempo y energía en entender cómo está organizada una exposición, cómo llegar de un punto otro en un sitio patrimonial, o incluso en ubicar un objeto o edificio en particular. Aún más: en ocasiones es responsable de que los públicos se queden sin ver aquello que era el elemento más importante del sitio del museo, del que se enteran de regreso en su casa, cuando alguien se lo hace notar. Para resolver este problema, los museos se han apoyado en la disciplina del wayfinding o disciplina de la orientación en el espacio, desarrollada originalmente en la arquitectura y el urbanismo, pero que también fue objeto de análisis de las ciencias cognitivas. Una de sus aplicaciones prácticas se da en el llamado diseño contextual, vía el diseño arquitectónico, gráfico (e incluso auditivo), precisamente para apoyar la orientación: lo que conocemos popularmente como señalética de orientación espacial. Aquí exploraremos en qué consiste el wayfinding, resumiremos algunos de los hallazgos de los museólogos que han estudiado su aplicación al museo, así como su extensión hacia los sitios patrimoniales, como las zonas arqueológicas.
