Games also have a unique power to bring people, communities and nations together.</p> <p>Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, at the Fortaleza BRICS Summit held in 2014, called for evolving mechanisms to enhance collaboration and competitions in Sports within BRICS countries. Following up on his initiative, in 2015 at Ufa Summit in Russia, he announced India’s intention to convene first BRICS Games in 2016 under India’s BRICS Chairship.</p> <p>India organised 1<sup>st</sup> BRICS Under-17 Football tournament in Goa from 5-15 October, 2016. The 2nd BRICS Games took place at Guangzhou in China from 17-21 June 2017, wherein BRICS teams competed in Volleyball, Wushu and Taolu games. A 20-member delegation from India performed Yoga at the opening ceremony of 2nd BRICS Games.</p> <p>South Africa organised the 3<sup>rd</sup> BRICS games from 17 to 22 July, 2018 at Johannesburg, comprising Men’s/ Women’s Volleyball and Women’s Football events. In 2018, BRICS leaders recommended to expand the BRICS Sports Game program. </p> <p>BRICS Sports Ministers in their 1<sup>st</sup> meeting on 25th August, 2020, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “Cooperation in the field of Physical Culture and Sport” to strengthen cooperation in Sports within BRICS countries.</p> <p>India is looking forward to host BRICS Games in 2021 alongside the Khelo India Games.
