Camping Tourism: A Case Study from Croatia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a temporary sojourn in a rural environment into a highly fragmented niche tourism sector. The trends among public-managed campgrounds seem to be moving away from rustic campgrounds that provide only a tent pad and a fire ring to more developed facilities that offer a range of different amenities, where campers still search for unique experiences that go above the opportunity to experience nature and social interaction. In addition, while camping styles and options changed significantly over the last years, coastal camping in particular became valorized as is it regarded with a heightened sense of nostalgia. Alongside this growing interest in the camping tourism, a demand for quality servicing infrastructure emerged in order to satisfy the wide variety of needs, wants, and expectations of an increasingly demanding traveling public. However, camping activity in general and quality of camping experience and campers’ satisfaction in particular remain an under-researched area of the tourism and consumption behavior literature. In this line, very few studies addressed the issue of quality product/service provision in satisfying nature based tourists and in driving their future behavior with respect to potential re-visitation and recommendation intention. The present study thus aims to investigate the drivers of positive and negative campsite experience using the case of Croatia. Due to the well-preserved nature and indented coastline, camping tourism has a long tradition in Croatia and represents one of the most important and most developed tourism products. During the last decade the number of tourist overnights in Croatian camps has increased by 26% amounting to 16.5 million in 2014. Moreover, according to Eurostat the market share of campsites in the EU is around 14%, indicating that the market share of Croatian campsites is almost double large compared to the EU average. Currently, there are a total of 250 camps in Croatia with approximately 75.8 thousands accommodation units. It is further noteworthy that Croatian camps have higher average occupancy rates and a higher average length of stay as compared to the national average of all types of accommodation. In order to explore the main drivers of positive and negative campsite experiences, this study uses principal components analysis (PCA) and an impact-asymmetry analysis (IAA). Using the PCA, first the main dimensions of the campsite experience are extracted in an exploratory manner. Using the IAA, the extracted factors are investigated for their potentials to create customer delight and/or frustration. The results provide valuable insight to both researchers and practitioners regarding the understanding of campsite satisfaction. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Camping%20tourism" title="Camping tourism">Camping tourism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=campsite" title=" campsite"> campsite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impact-asymmetry%20analysis" title=" impact-asymmetry analysis"> impact-asymmetry analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=satisfaction" title=" satisfaction"> satisfaction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38467/drivers-of-satisfaction-and-dissatisfaction-in-camping-tourism-a-case-study-from-croatia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38467.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">186</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">107</span> Faulty Sensors Detection in Planar Array Antenna Using Pelican Optimization Algorithm</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shafqat%20Ullah%20Khan">Shafqat Ullah Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ammar%20Nasir"> Ammar Nasir</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Using planar antenna array (PAA) in radars, Broadcasting, satellite antennas, and sonar for the detection of targets, Helps provide instant beam pattern control. High flexibility and Adaptability are achieved by multiple beam steering by using a Planar array and are particularly needed in real-life Sanrio’s where the need arises for several high-directivity beams. Faulty sensors in planar arrays generate asymmetry, which leads to service degradation, radiation pattern distortion, and increased levels of sidelobe. The POA, a nature-inspired optimization algorithm, accurately determines faulty sensors within an array, enhancing the reliability and performance of planar array antennas through extensive simulations and experiments. The analysis was done for different types of faults in 7 x 7 and 8 x 8 planar arrays in MATLAB. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Planar%20antenna%20array" title="Planar antenna array">Planar antenna array</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=" title=""></a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pelican%20optimisation%20Algorithm" title=" Pelican optimisation Algorithm"> Pelican optimisation Algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=" title=""></a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Faculty%20sensor" title=" Faculty sensor"> Faculty sensor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Antenna%20arrays" title=" Antenna arrays"> Antenna arrays</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186381/faulty-sensors-detection-in-planar-array-antenna-using-pelican-optimization-algorithm" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186381.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">81</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">106</span> Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Material Composition on Landslides</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mengqi%20Wu">Mengqi Wu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Haiping%20Zhu"> Haiping Zhu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chin%20J.%20Leo"> Chin J. The results show that the accumulation zone for all cases considered has a quadrilateral shape with two different bottom angles. The asymmetry of the accumulation zone can be attributed to the fact that soils in different parts of the landslide sliding can produce different speeds and suffer different resistances. The higher soil moisture can generate stronger cohesion between soils to reduce the volume of the sliding body during the landslide. The rock content can increase the accumulation angles to improve slope stability. The interaction between the irregular shapes of rocks and soils provides more resistance than that between spherical rocks and soils, which causes the slope with irregular rocks and soils to have higher stability. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=landslide" title="landslide">landslide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soil%20moisture" title=" soil moisture"> soil moisture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rock%20content" title=" rock content"> rock content</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=experimental%20simulation" title=" experimental simulation"> experimental simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167193/experimental-investigation-of-the-effect-of-material-composition-on-landslides" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167193.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">105</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">105</span> Plastic Deformation of Mg-Gd Solid Solutions between 4K and 298K</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anna%20Kula">Anna Kula</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raja%20K.%20Mishra"> Raja K. Increase in Gd content strongly influences the work-hardening behavior and flow characteristics in tension and compression. Adiabatic instabilities have been observed in all alloys at 4K under both tension and compression. The frequency and the amplitude of adiabatic stress oscillations increase with Gd content. Profuse mechanical twinning has been observed under compression, resulting in a texture dominated by basal component parallel to the compression axis. Under tension, twining is less active and the texture evolution is affected mostly by slip. Increasing Gd concentration leads to the reduction of the tension and compression asymmetry due to weakening of the texture and stabilizing more homogenous twinning and slip, involving basal and non-basal slip systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mg-Gd%20alloys" title="Mg-Gd alloys">Mg-Gd alloys</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20properties" title=" mechanical properties"> mechanical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=work%20hardening" title=" work hardening"> work hardening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=twinning" title=" twinning"> twinning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21344/plastic-deformation-of-mg-gd-solid-solutions-between-4k-and-298k" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21344.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">539</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">104</span> International Comparison in Component of Design-Potential</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kazuko%20Sakamoto">Kazuko Sakamoto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It is difficult to explain the factor of design preference only in culture or a geographical environment. It is necessary to turn one's eyes also to the factor in an individual. The purpose of this research is to clarify design potential which is inherent in consumers. Design potential is the consciousness and interpretation to an individual design. That is, it catches quantitatively the preparatory state which faces design. For example, a mobile phone differs in designs, such as a color and a form, by the country or the area. It is considered because a regional consumer taste exists. The root is design potential. This consists of design participation, design knowledge, and design sensitivity. Having focused this time is by design sensitivity, and international comparison of the Netherlands, Bangladesh, China, and Japan was performed. As a result, very interesting finding has been derived. For example, although Bangladesh caught the similarity of goods by the color, other three nations were caught in the form. Moreover, although the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and China liked symmetry, only Japan liked asymmetry. This shows that history and a cultural background have had big influence to the design. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design-potential" title="design-potential">design-potential</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural%20difference" title=" cultural difference"> cultural difference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=form%20characteristic" title=" form characteristic"> form characteristic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=product%20development" title=" product development"> product development</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67486/international-comparison-in-component-of-design-potential" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67486.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">377</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">103</span> Islamic Equity Markets Response to Volatility of Bitcoin</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zakaria%20S.%20G.%20Hegazy">Zakaria S. A quantile regression approach is employed, after adjusting raw returns with respect to a broad set of relevant global factors and accounting for structural breaks in the data. The results reveal that upside volatility tends to exert negative influences on Islamic developed-market returns more in bear than in bull market conditions, while downside volatility positively affects returns during bear and bull conditions. For emerging markets, we find that the upside (downside) component exerts lagged negative (positive) effects on returns in bear (all) market regimes. By and large, the dependence structures turn out to be asymmetric. Our evidence provides essential implications for investors. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cryptocurrency%20markets" title="cryptocurrency markets">cryptocurrency markets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bitcoin" title=" bitcoin"> bitcoin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=realized%20volatility%20measures" title=" realized volatility measures"> realized volatility measures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymmetry" title=" asymmetry"> asymmetry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantile%20regression" title=" quantile regression"> quantile regression</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141351/islamic-equity-markets-response-to-volatility-of-bitcoin" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141351.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">188</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">102</span> Exploring the Role of Private Commercial Banks in Increasing Small and Medium Size Enterprises’ Financial Accessibility in Developing Countries: A Study in Bangladesh</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khondokar%20Farid%20Ahmmed">Khondokar Farid Ahmmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Robin%20Bown"> Robin Bown</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It is widely recognized that the formal financing of Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) by Private Commercial Banks (PCBs) is restricted. Due to changing financial market competition, SMEs are now important customers to PCBs in the member countries of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Various initiatives in enhancing the efficiency of risk assessment of PCBs have failed in increasing financing accessibility in the traditional financing system where information asymmetry is a key constraint. In this circumstance, PCBs need to undertake a holistic approach. Holistic approach refers to methods that attempt to fundamentally change established traditions. To undertake holistic approach, this study intends to find the entire established financing culture between PCBs and SMEs in a new lens beyond the tradition on the basis of two basic questions: &ldquo; What is the traditional lending culture between PCBs and SMEs&rdquo; and &ldquo; What could be potential role of PCBs to develop that culture where focusing on SME financing to PCBs&quot;. This study considered formal SME financing in Bangladesh by focusing on SMEs applying for their first loan. Bangladesh is a member country of ADB. The data collection method is semi-structured and we utilized face-to-face interviews with in-depth branch managers, higher officials and owner-managers of SME customers of PCBs and higher officials of SME Foundation and the Bangladesh central bank. Discourse analysis method was used for data analysis on the frame of thematic discussion fully based on participants&rsquo; views. The research found that branch managers and loan officers have a high level of power in assessing and financing decision-making. There is a changing attitude in PCB sector in requiring flexible collateral assets. Branch managers (Loan Officers) consider value of business prospect of owner-mangers as complementary of collateral assets. However, the study found the assessment process of business prospect is entirely unstructured and linked with socio-cultural settings that does not support PCBs&rsquo; changing manner in terms of collateral requirement. The study redefined and classified collateral assets to include all financing constructs in a structure. The degree of value of the collateral assets determines the degree of business prospects. This study suggested applying an outside classroom-learning paradigm such as &ldquo;knowledge tour&rdquo; to enhance the value of the kinds of collateral assets. This is the scope of PCBs in increasing SMEs&rsquo; financing eligibility in win-win basis. The findings and proposition could be effective in other ADB member countries and audiences in the field. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CCA" title="CCA">CCA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financing" title=" financing"> financing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20asymmetry" title=" information asymmetry"> information asymmetry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PCA" title=" PCA"> PCA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PCB" title=" PCB"> PCB</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financing" title=" financing"> financing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40154/exploring-the-role-of-private-commercial-banks-in-increasing-small-and-medium-size-enterprises-financial-accessibility-in-developing-countries-a-study-in-bangladesh" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40154.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">200</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">101</span> The Effect of Dynamic Eccentricity on the Stator Current Spectrum of 550 kW Induction Motor </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saleh%20Elawgali">Saleh Elawgali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to present the effect of the dynamic eccentricity on the stator currents of squirrel cage induction machines, the current spectrums of a 550 kW induction motor was calculated for the cases of full symmetry and dynamic eccentricity. The effect of dynamic eccentricity is demonstrating via comparing the current spectrums related to dynamic eccentricity cases with the full symmetry one. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=current%20spectrum" title="current spectrum">current spectrum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20eccentricity" title=" dynamic eccentricity"> dynamic eccentricity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=harmonics" title=" harmonics"> harmonics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Induction%20machine" title=" Induction machine"> Induction machine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=slot%20harmonic%20zone." title=" slot harmonic zone."> slot harmonic zone.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9405/the-effect-of-dynamic-eccentricity-on-the-stator-current-spectrum-of-550-kw-induction-motor" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9405.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">400</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">100</span> Internal Capital Market Efficiency Study Based on Improved Cash Flow Sensitivity Coefficient - Take Tomorrow Group as an Example</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peng%20Lu">Peng Lu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liu%20Ting"> Liu Ting</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Because of the difficulty of financing from the external capital market, the reorganization and merger of private enterprises have formed a family group, seeking the help of the internal capital market to alleviate the capital demand. However, the inefficiency of the internal capital market can damage the effect it should have played, and even hinder the development of enterprises. This paper takes the "Tomorrow Group" as the research object to carry on the case analysis. After using the improved cash flow sensitivity coefficient to measure the efficiency of the internal capital market of Tomorrow Group, the inefficiency phenomenon is found. Then the analysis reveals that the reasons for its inefficiency include that the pyramidal equity structure is conducive to control, the separation of cash flow rights and control rights, the concentration of equity leads to poor balance, the abandonment of real industries and information asymmetry. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tomorrow%20group" title="tomorrow group">tomorrow group</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internal%20capital%20market" title=" internal capital market"> internal capital market</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=related-party%20transactions" title=" related-party transactions"> related-party transactions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Baotou%20tomorrow%20technology%20Co." title=" Baotou tomorrow technology Co."> Baotou tomorrow technology Co.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LTD" title=" LTD"> LTD</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116397/internal-capital-market-efficiency-study-based-on-improved-cash-flow-sensitivity-coefficient-take-tomorrow-group-as-an-example" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116397.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">136</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">99</span> Leverage Effect for Volatility with Generalized Laplace Error</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farrukh%20Javed">Farrukh Javed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Krzysztof%20Podg%C3%B3rski"> Krzysztof Podgórski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We propose a new model that accounts for the asymmetric response of volatility to positive ('good news') and negative ('bad news') shocks in economic time series the so-called leverage effect. In the past, asymmetric powers of errors in the conditionally heteroskedastic models have been used to capture this effect. Our model is using the gamma difference representation of the generalized Laplace distributions that efficiently models the asymmetry. It has one additional natural parameter, the shape, that is used instead of power in the asymmetric power models to capture the strength of a long-lasting effect of shocks. Some fundamental properties of the model are provided including the formula for covariances and an explicit form for the conditional distribution of 'bad' and 'good' news processes given the past the property that is important for the statistical fitting of the model. Relevant features of volatility models are illustrated using S&P 500 historical data. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heavy%20tails" title="heavy tails">heavy tails</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=volatility%20clustering" title=" volatility clustering"> volatility clustering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=generalized%20asymmetric%20laplace%20distribution" title=" generalized asymmetric laplace distribution"> generalized asymmetric laplace distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leverage%20effect" title=" leverage effect"> leverage effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conditional%20heteroskedasticity" title=" conditional heteroskedasticity"> conditional heteroskedasticity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymmetric%20power%20volatility" title=" asymmetric power volatility"> asymmetric power volatility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GARCH%20models" title=" GARCH models "> GARCH models </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18972/leverage-effect-for-volatility-with-generalized-laplace-error" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18972.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">386</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">98</span> The Probability Foundation of Fundamental Theoretical Physics</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quznetsov%20Gunn">Quznetsov Gunn</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the study of the logical foundations of probability theory, it was found that the terms and equations of the fundamental theoretical physics represent terms and theorems of the classical probability theory, more precisely, of that part of this theory, which considers the probability of dot events in the 3 + 1 space-time. Arc equipment is one of the largest receivers powered by the power system. Electric arc disturbances arising during melting process occurring in these furnaces are the cause of an abrupt change of the passive power of furnaces. Currents drawn by these devices undergo an abrupt change, which in turn cause voltage fluctuations and light flicker. The quantitative evaluation of the voltage fluctuations is now the basic criterion of assessment of an influence of unquiet receiver on the supplying net. The paper presents the method of determination of range of voltage fluctuations and light flicker at parallel operation of arc devices. The results of measurements of voltage fluctuations and light flicker indicators recorded in power supply networks of steelworks were presented, with different number of parallel arc devices. Measurements of energy quality parameters were aimed at verifying the proposed method in practice. This market is considered the most important to monitor daily, as the yield curve of future interest rates is often referred to as "the mother of all curves" due to its importance in the pricing of all global risk assets. The period after 2020 was characterized initially by a stimulative monetary policy, synchronized across major global economies, with a rapid and significant reduction of interest rates by central banks and expansionary fiscal policy and increased government debt. In a subsequent phase, from 2021 to 2022, the end of lockdowns, the boost in income through public subsidies, and increased demand for goods, combined with logistical bottlenecks, resulted in the most significant inflationary shock in decades. The Federal Reserve (Fed) employed an abrupt tightening, raising short-term interest rates from 0.00% to 5.25% p.a. (the highest since the 2000s) at record speed (March 2022 to July 2023), and even before the monetary tightening, long-term interest rates had already been on an upward trend since 2020. The speed at which the Fed raised short-term interest rates has a significant impact on the level and the volatility of yields across other maturities. Estimating models as APARCH and DCC-GARCH, this paper explores the interplay between conditional variance in the 2-year Treasuries and key macroeconomic variables for the U.S., highlighting asymmetric shocks, feedback effects, and spillovers between Treasury markets and macroeconomic volatility. The results evidenced volatility peaks, particularly during the Covid-19 lockdown, and the statistical tests confirmed ARCH/GARCH effects, corroborating high persistence, i.e. future variance being strongly affected by past variance. The univariate models GJR-GARCH and APARCH allowed to verify the importance of asymmetry, that is, bad news have a greater impact than good news on the conditional volatility of future interest rates. Then, the multivariate DCC-GARCH model confirmed the spillover between the volatility of Treasuries and volatility of macroeconomic variables, indicating the time-varying conditional correlation between the variable’s volatilities. Besides estimating a full specification for DCC-GARCH with all variables simultaneously, a robustness test with pairwise estimations confirmed the temporal dynamics of highly persistence volatility and corroborated the feedback effect between the 2-year Treasuries, the unemployment rate and expected inflation, suggesting that these variables are good predictors of the long-term interest rate, which is aligned with the Fed's dual mandate. The empirical results here are consistent with the literature and bring practical insights for risk management and investment strategies, supporting investors to better model asymmetry and downside risk in portfolios and to manage the interest rate risk by understanding how different maturities respond to economic conditions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=volatility" title="volatility">volatility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=US%20treasury" title=" US treasury"> US treasury</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=APARCH" title=" APARCH"> APARCH</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DCC-GARCH" title=" DCC-GARCH"> DCC-GARCH</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymmetric%20shocks" title=" asymmetric shocks"> asymmetric shocks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spillover" title=" spillover"> spillover</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/195404/volatility-of-interest-rates-in-the-us-after-covid-19-a-multivariate-garch-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/195404.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">3</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">94</span> Credit Risk and Financial Stability</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zidane%20Abderrezzaq">Zidane Abderrezzaq</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In contrast to recent successful developments in macro monetary policies, the modelling, measurement and management of systemic financial stability has remained problematical. Indeed, the focus of most effort has been on improving individual, rather than systemic, bank risk management; the Basel II objective has been to bring regulatory bank capital into line with the (sophisticated) banks’ assessment of their own economic capital. Even at the individual bank level there are concerns over appropriate diversification allowances, differing objectives of banks and regulators, the need for a buffer over regulatory minima, and the distinction between expected and unexpected losses (EL and UL). At the systemic level the quite complex and prescriptive content of Basel II raises dangers of ‘endogenous risk’ and procyclicality. Simulations suggest that this latter could be a serious problem. In an extension to the main analysis we study how liquidity effects interact with banking structure to produce a greater chance of systemic breakdown. We finally consider how the risk of contagion might depend on the degree of asymmetry (tiering) inherent in the structure of the banking system. A number of our results have important implications for public policy, which this paper also draws out. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=systemic%20stability" title="systemic stability">systemic stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20regulation" title=" financial regulation"> financial regulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=credit%20risk" title=" credit risk"> credit risk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=systemic%20risk" title=" systemic risk"> systemic risk</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34954/credit-risk-and-financial-stability" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34954.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">381</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">93</span> The Efficacy of Contractual Governance on Task and Relationship Conflict in Construction Projects</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jingya%20You">Jingya You</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yongqiang%20Chen"> Yongqiang Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuanyuan%20Hua"> Yuanyuan Hua</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wenqian%20Wang"> Wenqian Wang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Conflict is commonplace in construction projects, and construction projects always involve designing contracts between the owner and the contractor. However, how the contract affects the level of conflict between the owner and the contractor has not been elaborated. The purpose of this paper is to explain the effects of contractual complexity on the level of conflict, including task conflict and relationship conflict, and then to demonstrate the moderating role played by the interdependence between the owner and the contractor. Using data from owners and general contractors in the Chinese construction industry, this research reveals that contractual control will reduce relationship conflict. Contractual coordination will also reduce relationship conflict by the mediating effect of task conflict. Besides, under high joint interdependence, the positive relationship between task conflict and relationship conflict is strengthened, while high interdependence asymmetry has effects on weakening the relationship between task conflict and relationship conflict. The findings provide guidance for contract designers to draft suitable contracts in order to effectively deal with conflict. Additionally, this research implies that project managers should highlight the importance of contract in conflict management. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=construction%20projects" title="construction projects">construction projects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contract%20governance" title=" contract governance"> contract governance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interdependence" title=" interdependence"> interdependence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relationship%20conflict" title=" relationship conflict"> relationship conflict</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=task%20conflict" title=" task conflict"> task conflict</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100047/the-efficacy-of-contractual-governance-on-task-and-relationship-conflict-in-construction-projects" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100047.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">218</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">92</span> Modelling Operational Risk Using Extreme Value Theory and Skew t-Copulas via Bayesian Inference </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Betty%20Johanna%20Garzon%20Rozo">Betty Johanna Garzon Rozo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jonathan%20Crook"> Jonathan Crook</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fernando%20Moreira"> Fernando Moreira</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Operational risk losses are heavy tailed and are likely to be asymmetric and extremely dependent among business lines/event types. The approach considers the effect of two orthogonal components of the ground motions as well as the influence of soil-structure interaction. The approach involves the calculation of ductility demand hazard curves for symmetric systems and, alternatively, for systems with different degrees of asymmetry. To get this objective, demand hazard curves corresponding to different global ductility demands of the systems are calculated. Next, Uniform Exceedance Rate Spectra (UERS) are developed for a specific mean annual rate of exceedance value. Ratios between UERS corresponding to asymmetric and to symmetric systems located in soft soil of the valley of Mexico are obtained. Results indicate that the ductility demands corresponding to tilted structures may be several times higher than those corresponding to symmetric structures, depending on several factors such as tilting angle and vibration period of structure and soil. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymmetric%20yielding" title="asymmetric yielding">asymmetric yielding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seismic%20performance" title=" seismic performance"> seismic performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structural%20reliability" title=" structural reliability"> structural reliability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tilted%20structures" title=" tilted structures"> tilted structures</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22149/reliability-based-ductility-seismic-spectra-of-structures-with-tilting" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22149.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">509</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">90</span> Influence of the Financial Crisis on the Month and the Trading Month Effects: Evidence from the Athens Stock Exchange</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aristeidis%20Samitas">Aristeidis Samitas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Evangelos%20Vasileiou"> Evangelos Vasileiou </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this study is to examine the month and the trading month effect under changing financial trends. We choose the Greek stock market to implement our assumption because there are clear and long term periods of financial growth and recession. Daily financial data from Athens Exchange General Index for the period 2002-2012 are considered. The paper employs several linear and non-linear models, although the TGARCH asymmetry model best fits in this sample and for this reason we mainly present the TGARCH results. Empirical results show that changing economic and financial conditions influences the calendar effects. Especially, the trading month effect totally changes in each fortnight according to the financial trend. On the other hand, in Greece the January effect exists during the growth periods, although it does not exist when the financial trend changes. The findings are helpful to anybody who invest and deals with the Greek stock market. Moreover, they may pave the way for an alternative calendar anomalies research approach, so it may be useful to investors who take into account these anomalies when they draw their investment strategy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=month%20effect" title="month effect">month effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trading%20month%20effect" title=" trading month effect"> trading month effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic%20cycles" title=" economic cycles"> economic cycles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crisis" title=" crisis"> crisis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5526/influence-of-the-financial-crisis-on-the-month-and-the-trading-month-effects-evidence-from-the-athens-stock-exchange" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5526.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">416</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">89</span> Risk Aversion and Dynamic Games between Hydroelectric Operators under Uncertainty</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdessalem%20Abbassi">Abdessalem Abbassi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahlem%20Dakhlaoui"> Ahlem Dakhlaoui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lota%20D.%20Tamini"> Lota D. In each type of market structure we determine the water release path in closed-loop equilibrium. We show how a monopoly can manage its hydropower dams by additional pumping or storage depending on the relative abundance of water between different regions to smooth the effect of uncertainty on electricity prices. In the oligopolistic case with symmetric rates of risk aversion, we determine the conditions under which the relative scarcity (abundance) of water in the dam of a hydroelectric operator can favor additional strategic pumping (storage) in its competitor’s dams. When there is asymmetry of the risk aversion coefficient, the firm’s hydroelectricity production increases as its competitor’s risk aversion increases, if and only if the average recharge speed of the competitor’s dam exceeds a certain threshold, which is an increasing function of its average water inflows. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymmetric%20risk%20aversion" title="asymmetric risk aversion">asymmetric risk aversion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=closed-loop%20Cournot%20competition" title=" closed-loop Cournot competition"> closed-loop Cournot competition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electricity%20wholesale%20market" title=" electricity wholesale market"> electricity wholesale market</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydropower%20dams" title=" hydropower dams"> hydropower dams</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38716/risk-aversion-and-dynamic-games-between-hydroelectric-operators-under-uncertainty" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38716.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">354</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">88</span> Person-Environment Fit (PE Fit): Evidence from Brazil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jucelia%20Appio">Jucelia Appio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Danielle%20Deimling%20De%20Carli"> Danielle Deimling De Carli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Henrique%20Rocha%20Fernandes"> Bruno Henrique Rocha Fernandes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nelson%20Natalino%20Frizon"> Nelson Natalino Frizon</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this paper is to investigate if there are positive and significant correlations between the dimensions of Person-Environment Fit (Person-Job, Person-Organization, Person-Group and Person-Supervisor) at the &ldquo;Best Companies to Work for&rdquo; in Brazil in 2017. Efficient method for this disease detection must be carried out to minimize the production loss. This paper presents a pattern recognition system that comprises three stages for the detection of citrus greening from Orange leaves: segmentation, feature extraction and classification. Image segmentation is accomplished by adaptive thresholding. The feature extraction stage comprises of three visual descriptors i.e. shape, color and texture. From shape feature we have used asymmetry index, from color feature we have used histogram of Cb component from YCbCr domain and from texture feature we have used local binary pattern. Classification was done using support vector machines and k nearest neighbors. The best performances of the system is Accuracy = 88.02% and AUROC = 90.1% was achieved by automatic segmented images. Our experiments validate that: (1). Segmentation is an imperative preprocessing step for computer assisted diagnosis of citrus greening, and (2). The combination of shape, color and texture features form a complementary set towards the identification of citrus greening disease. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=citrus%20greening" title="citrus greening">citrus greening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pattern%20recognition" title=" pattern recognition"> pattern recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feature%20extraction" title=" feature extraction"> feature extraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=classification" title=" classification"> classification</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98969/an-automated-system-for-the-detection-of-citrus-greening-disease-based-on-visual-descriptors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98969.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">184</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">86</span> Portfolio Selection with Active Risk Monitoring</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc%20S.%20Paolella">Marc S. It introduces a so-called risk fear portfolio strategy which combines portfolio optimization with active risk monitoring. The former selects optimal portfolio weights. The latter, independently, initiates market exit in case of excessive risks. The strategy agrees with the stylized fact of stock market major sell-offs during the initial stage of market downturns. The advantages of the new framework are illustrated with an extensive empirical study. It leads to superior multivariate density and Value-at-Risk forecasting, and better portfolio performance. The proposed risk fear portfolio strategy outperforms various competing types of optimal portfolios, even in the presence of conservative transaction costs and frequent rebalancing. The risk monitoring of the optimal portfolio can serve as an early warning system against large market risks. In particular, the new strategy avoids all the losses during the 2008 financial crisis, and it profits from the subsequent market recovery. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comfort" title="comfort">comfort</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20crises" title=" financial crises"> financial crises</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=portfolio%20optimization" title=" portfolio optimization"> portfolio optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=risk%20monitoring" title=" risk monitoring"> risk monitoring</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28504/portfolio-selection-with-active-risk-monitoring" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28504.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">525</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">85</span> Revisiting the Impact of Oil Price on Trade Deficit of Pakistan: Evidence from Nonlinear Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag Model and Asymmetric Multipliers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qaiser%20Munir">Qaiser Munir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamid%20Hussain"> Hamid Hussain</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Oil prices are believed to have a major impact on several economic indicators, leading to several instances where a comparison between oil prices and a trade deficit of oil-importing countries have been carried out. Building upon the narrative, this paper sheds light on the ongoing debate by inquiring upon the possibility of asymmetric linkages between oil prices, industrial production, exchange rate, whole price index, and trade deficit. The analytical tool used to further understand the complexities of a recent approach called nonlinear auto-regressive distributed lag model (NARDL) is utilised. Our results suggest that there are significant asymmetric effects among the main variables of interest. Further, our findings indicate that any variation in oil prices, industrial production, exchange rate, and whole price index on trade deficit tend to fluctuate in the long run. Moreover, the long-run picture denotes that increased oil price leads to a negative impact on the trade deficit, which, in its true essence, is a disproportionate impact. In addition to this, the Wald test simultaneously conducted concludes the absence of any significant evidence of the asymmetry in the oil prices impact on the trade balance in the short-run. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trade%20deficit" title="trade deficit">trade deficit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oil%20prices" title=" oil prices"> oil prices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=developing%20economy" title=" developing economy"> developing economy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NARDL" title=" NARDL"> NARDL</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114070/revisiting-the-impact-of-oil-price-on-trade-deficit-of-pakistan-evidence-from-nonlinear-auto-regressive-distributed-lag-model-and-asymmetric-multipliers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114070.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">133</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">84</span> Triggering Supersonic Boundary-Layer Instability by Small-Scale Vortex Shedding</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guohua%20Tu">Guohua Tu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhi%20Fu"> Zhi Fu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhiwei%20Hu"> Zhiwei Hu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neil%20D%20Sandham"> Neil D Sandham</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jianqiang%20Chen"> Jianqiang Chen</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Tripping of boundary-layers from laminar to turbulent flow, which may be necessary in specific practical applications, requires high amplitude disturbances to be introduced into the boundary layers without large drag penalties. As a possible improvement on fixed trip devices, a technique based on vortex shedding for enhancing supersonic flow transition is demonstrated in the present paper for a Mach 1.5 boundary layer. The compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved directly using a high-order (fifth-order in space and third-order in time) finite difference method for small-scale cylinders suspended transversely near the wall. For cylinders with proper diameter and mount location, asymmetry vortices shed within the boundary layer are capable of tripping laminar-turbulent transition. Full three-dimensional simulations showed that transition was enhanced. A parametric study of the size and mounting location of the cylinder is carried out to identify the most effective setup. It is also found that the vortex shedding can be suppressed by some factors such as wall effect. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=boundary%20layer%20instability" title="boundary layer instability">boundary layer instability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=boundary%20layer%20transition" title=" boundary layer transition"> boundary layer transition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vortex%20shedding" title=" vortex shedding"> vortex shedding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=supersonic%20flows" title=" supersonic flows"> supersonic flows</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20control" title=" flow control"> flow control</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61412/triggering-supersonic-boundary-layer-instability-by-small-scale-vortex-shedding" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61412.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">365</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">83</span> Measuring Audit Quality Using Text Analysis: An Empirical Study of Indian Companies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leesa%20Mohanty">Leesa Mohanty</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ashok%20Banerjee"> Ashok Banerjee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Better audit quality signifies the financial statements of the auditee firm reflect true and fair view of their actual state of affairs, which reduces information asymmetry between management and shareholders, as a result, helps protect interests of shareholders. This study examines the impact of joint audit on audit quality. It is motivated by the ongoing debate where The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the regulatory body governing auditors, has advocated the finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the mandatory use of joint audit in private banks to enhance the quality of audit. Earlier, the Government of India had rejected the plea by ICAI for mandatory joint audits in large companies stating it is not a viable option for promoting domestic firms. We introduce a new measure of audit quality. Drawing from the domain of text analytics, we use relevant phrases in audit reports to gauge audit quality and demonstrate that joint audit improves audit quality. We also, for robustness, use prevalent proxy for audit quality (Big N Auditor, ratio of audit fees to total fees) and find negative effect of joint audit on audit quality. We, therefore highlight that different proxy for audit quality show opposite effect of joint audit. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=audit%20fees" title="audit fees">audit fees</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=audit%20quality" title=" audit quality"> audit quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Big%20N.%20Auditor" title=" Big N. At these enterprises large parts of bodies of rotation are made on stamping units or bending and forming machines. In Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University in alliance with JSC "Magnitogorsk Metal and Steel Works" there was suggested and implemented the technology for producing such items based on a combination of asymmetric rolling processes and plastic bending under conditions of the plate mill. In this paper, based on finite elemental mathematical simulation in technology of a combined process of asymmetric rolling and bending plastic has been improved. It is shown that for the same curvature along the entire length of the metal sheet it is necessary to introduce additional asymmetry speed when rolling front end and tape trailer. Production of large bodies of rotation at mill 4500 JSC "Magnitogorsk Metal and Steel Works" showed good convergence of theoretical and experimental values of the curvature of the metal. Distinct ULF signatures are detected in 44 out of the 131 magnetospheric traversals prior to or after observing a KHW. In particular, 39 of these 44 ULF events are highly coherent at the frequency of maximum power spectral density. The waves observed at the dayside, which appears mainly at the duskside and naturally following the KHW occurrence asymmetry, are significantly different to the events behind the dawn-dusk terminator and have the following distinct wave characteristics: they oscillate clearly in the perpendicular (azimuthal) direction to the mean magnetic field with a wave normal angle more in the parallel than the perpendicular direction, increase in absolute ellipticity with distance from noon, are almost exclusively right-hand polarized, and are observed mainly for frequencies in the range 0.02-0.04 Hz. These results indicate that the dayside ULF waves are likely to shear Alfvén waves driven by KHWs at the magnetopause, which in turn manifests the importance of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in terms of mass transport throughout the Mercury magnetosphere. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultra-low%20frequency%20waves" title="ultra-low frequency waves">ultra-low frequency waves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=kelvin-Helmholtz%20instability" title=" kelvin-Helmholtz instability"> kelvin-Helmholtz instability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnetospheric%20processes" title=" magnetospheric processes"> magnetospheric processes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mercury" title=" mercury"> mercury</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=messenger" title=" messenger"> messenger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20and%20momentum%20transfer%20in%20planetary%20environments" title=" energy and momentum transfer in planetary environments"> energy and momentum transfer in planetary environments</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51968/observations-of-magnetospheric-ulf-waves-in-connection-to-the-kelvin-helmholtz-instability-at-mercury" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51968.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">240</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">80</span> Conformity and Differentiation in CSR Practices on Capital Market Performance: Empirical Evidence from Stock Liquidity and Price Crash Risk</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jie%20Zhang">Jie Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chaomin%20Zhang"> Chaomin Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jihua%20Zhang"> Jihua Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Haitong%20Li"> Haitong Li</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Using the theory of optimal distinctiveness, this study examines the effects of conformity and differentiation within corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices on capital market performance. Analysing data from Chinese A-share listed firms from 2007 to 2022, this paper demonstrates that when firms conform to the expected scope of CSR, such behaviour enhances investor attention and market acceptance, thereby boosting stock liquidity. Conversely, emphasising differentiation in CSR practices more effectively mitigates stock price crash risk by addressing principal–agent problems and decreasing information asymmetry. This paper also investigates how organisational and environmental factors moderate the relationship between conformity and differentiation in CSR practices and their impact on capital market performance. The results also show that the influence of conformity on stock liquidity is accentuated in smaller firms and environments with stringent legal oversight. By contrast, the benefits of differentiation in reducing stock price crash risk are amplified in firms with robust corporate governance and markets characterised by high uncertainty. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corporate%20social%20responsibility" title="corporate social responsibility">corporate social responsibility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20responsibility%20practices" title=" social responsibility practices"> social responsibility practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capital%20market%20performance" title=" capital market performance"> capital market performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimal%20distinctiveness" title=" optimal distinctiveness"> optimal distinctiveness</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192548/conformity-and-differentiation-in-csr-practices-on-capital-market-performance-empirical-evidence-from-stock-liquidity-and-price-crash-risk" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192548.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">20</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">79</span> Epistemic Stance in Chinese Medicine Translation: A Systemic Functional Perspective</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yan%20Yue">Yan Yue</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Epistemic stance refers to the writer’s judgement about the certainty of the proposition, which demonstrates writer’s degree of commitment and confidence to the status of the information. Epistemic stance can exert great consequence to the validity or reliability of the values of a statement, however, to date, it receives little attention in translations studies, especially from the perspective of systemic functional linguistics (SFL) and with the relation to translator’s domain knowledge. This study is corpus-based research carried out in SFL perspective, which investigates translator’s epistemic stance pattern in Chinese medicine discourse translations by translators with and without medical domain knowledge. Overall, our findings show that all translators tend to be neither too assertive nor too doubted about Chinese medicine statements, and they all tend to express their epistemic stance in a subjective rather than objective way. Individually, there is a clear pattern of epistemic stance marked off by translators’ medical expertise, which further consolidates the previous finding that epistemic asymmetry is found most salient between lay people and professionals. However, contrary to our hypothesis, translators as clinicians who have more medical knowledge are found to be more tentative to TCM statements than translators as non-clinicians. This finding could serve to refine the statements about the relation between writer’s domain knowledge and epistemic stance-taking and the current debate whether Chinese medicine texts should only be translated by clinicians. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=epistemic%20stance" title="epistemic stance">epistemic stance</a>,
