Bouter (Chair)</h3><div class="sppb-addon-content">Professor of Methodology and Integrity, <br/>Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands <br/><br/>Lex Bouter obtained a MSc degree in Medical Biology at Utrecht University and joined Maastricht University in 1984, where he was trained as an epidemiologist and obtained his PhD. In 1988 he published a textbook on epidemiology, the seventh revised Dutch edition of which appeared in 2016 and the first English edition in 2018. In 1992, he took up a tenured position as Professor of Epidemiology in Amsterdam. From 2006 until 2013 he was Rector Magnificus of his university. <br/><br/>Subsequently, Professor Bouter prepared for a return to science during a sabbatical leave. In 2014 his tenured professorship was broadened to Methodology and Integrity. He is currently involved in teaching and research regarding responsible conduct of research, questionable research practices and research misconduct. She assists the university senior management team in recommending policies, processes, and strategies for enhancing the University’s research capacity and performance. Her portfolio includes research data management and education, research integrity policy review, promoting responsible conduct of research, research postgraduate education, cross faculty research collaboration in Hong Kong and mainland China. Professor Sham has delivered plenary and keynote lectures on research integrity issues in different continents. She is a member of the planning committee for the Asia-Pacific Research Integrity (APRI) Network, and the Co-Chair for the 6th World Conference on Research Integrity to be held in Hong Kong in 2019.</p> <p>Professor Sham obtained her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge. She received her postdoctoral training in Developmental Genetics in the National Institute for Medical Research in London, U.K., before joining the University of Hong Kong. She served as Assistant Dean (Research) and Head of the Department of Biochemistry in the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, and is currently Convenor of the Research Cluster of Developmental and Stem Cell Biology in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. After further specialist training in Paediatric Cardiology at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and research training at the Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, USA, she joined The Lancet as a full-time Medical Editor in 1998. In March 2002, she became Executive Editor, and in July 2006 Senior Executive Editor. She joined the Committee on Publication Ethics in 1999, was elected to Council in 2002, and served as Vice-Chair from 2006 to March 2012. She was a member of the planning committee of the first and second World Conference on Research Integrity (Lisbon 2007, Singapore 2010) and she co-chaired the planning committee for the third and fourth World Conference on Research Integrity (Montreal 2013, Rio 2015). Prior to joining RMIT University, he worked in research management at the University of Melbourne and Deakin University. Dr. Barr has also worked as a biomedical scientist in Australia and the United States.</p> <p>Specialising in research integrity and ethics, Dr. Barr has developed and implemented initiatives in policy, education and training, and support services that aim to enhance the responsible conduct of research at universities. He also conducts research in research integrity, and is working to develop Guiding Principles for Research Integrity for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.</p> <p>Dr. Barr has a BSc (Hons) and a PhD in immunology from the University of Melbourne. He is a Training Fellow of the Australasian Research Management Society and an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne. Sonia is coordinator of the Professional Masters Program in Science Education [<em>Educação, Gestão e Difusão em Biociências</em>] at IBqM. She is coordinator of the Advisory Council for Research Ethics at UFRJ and former member of the Research Integrity Committee of the Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). She represented the field of humanities and social sciences in this committee. She has been among the organizers of Brazilian Meeting on Research Integrity, Science and Publication Ethics (BRISPE), held biannually in Brazil since 2010. SRCR is responsible for the implementation of the Tri-Agency Framework on Responsible Conduct of Research on behalf of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The Secretariat is also responsible for the Tri-Council Policy Statement: <em>Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans</em>.<br/><br/>She is a lawyer whose career has focused on health law and public policy. A native of Montreal, Susan received her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College, civil law and common law degrees from McGill University, and a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto. Her professional experience includes positions as a senior research associate at the Centre for Medicine, Ethics and Law at McGill University, Director of Legislation and Law Reform at the Canadian Bar Association, legal counsel at Health Canada and Director of Research for the Law Commission of Canada. Since 2010, she has been the Head of the Administrative Office of the Austrian Agency for Research Integrity and is involved in all RI activities on the national level. She is engaged in training, advising, policy making and investigating allegations of research misconduct.
