Two teams of the <a href="/entry/National_Football_League" title="National Football League">National Football League</a> play in Maryland, the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore and the Washington Redskins in Prince George's County. The Baltimore Orioles are the Major League Baseball franchise in the state. The National Hockey League's Washington Capitals used to play in Maryland until the construction of a new Washington-based arena in 1997. Lacking a <a href="/entry/National_Basketball_Association" title="National Basketball Association">National Basketball Association</a> franchise, many Maryland residents are fans of the Washington Wizards. There are also a number of smaller sports franchises in the state, including five minor league <a href="/entry/Baseball" title="Baseball">baseball</a> teams. </p><p><br/></p> <h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Notes">Notes</span></h2> <div class="mw-references-wrap mw-references-columns"><ol class="references"> <li id="cite_note-1"><span class="mw-cite-backlink"><a href="#cite_ref-1">↑</a></span> <span class="reference-text"><a class="external text" href="http://www.visitmaryland.org/Students/Pages/MarylandFacts.aspx">Maryland Facts</a>.
