The study was conducted in a Malaysian Government Department and had three stages: baseline data collection, four-week intervention and two-month post intervention data collection. During the intervention and two-month post intervention phases, physical activity levels (determined by a pedometer) and basic health profiles (BMI, abdominal obesity, blood pressure) were measured. Staff (58 males, 47 females) with an average age of 33 years completed baseline data collection. Pedometer steps averaged 7,102 steps/day at baseline, although male step counts were significantly higher than females (7,861 vs. 6114). Health profiles were poor: over 50% were overweight/obese (males 66%, females 40%); hypertension (males 23%, females 6%); excess waist circumference (males 52%, females 17%). While 86 staff participated in the intervention, only 49 regularly reported their steps. There was a significant increase (17%) in average daily steps from 8,965 (week 1) to 10,436 (week 4). Unfortunately, participation in the intervention program was avoided by the less healthy staff. Two months after the intervention there was no significant difference in average steps/day, despite the fact that 89% of staff reporting they planned to make long-term changes to their lifestyle. An unexpected average increase of 2kg in body weight occurred in participants, although this was less than the 5.6kg in non-participants. A number of recommendations are made for future interventions, including the conclusion that pedometers were a useful tool and popular with participants. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedometers" title="pedometers">pedometers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=walking" title=" walking"> walking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health" title=" health"> health</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intervention" title=" intervention"> intervention</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56101/effectiveness-of-a-malaysian-workplace-intervention-study-on-physical-activity-levels" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56101.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">304</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">64</span> Design and Development of Fleet Management System for Multi-Agent Autonomous Surface Vessel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zulkifli%20Zainal%20Abidin">Zulkifli Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmad%20Shahril%20Mohd%20Ghani"> Ahmad Shahril Mohd Ghani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Agent-based systems technology has been addressed as a new paradigm for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing software systems. Agents are sophisticated systems that act autonomously across open and distributed environments in solving problems. Nevertheless, it is impractical to rely on a single agent to do all computing processes in solving complex problems. An increasing number of applications lately require multiple agents to work together. A multi-agent system (MAS) is a loosely coupled network of agents that interact to solve problems that are beyond the individual capacities or knowledge of each problem solver. However, the network of MAS still requires a main system to govern or oversees the operation of the agents in order to achieve a unified goal. We had developed a fleet management system (FMS) in order to manage the fleet of agents, plan route for the agents, perform real-time data processing and analysis, and issue sets of general and specific instructions to the agents. This FMS should be able to perform real-time data processing, communicate with the autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) agents and generate bathymetric map according to the data received from each ASV unit. The first algorithm is developed to communicate with the ASV via radio communication using standard National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) protocol sentences. Next, the second algorithm will take care of the path planning, formation and pattern generation is tested using various sample data. Lastly, the bathymetry map generation algorithm will make use of data collected by the agents to create bathymetry map in real-time. The outcome of this research is expected can be applied on various other multi-agent systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=autonomous%20surface%20vehicle" title="autonomous surface vehicle">autonomous surface vehicle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fleet%20management%20system" title=" fleet management system"> fleet management system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi%20agent%20system" title=" multi agent system"> multi agent system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bathymetry" title=" bathymetry"> bathymetry</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72389/design-and-development-of-fleet-management-system-for-multi-agent-autonomous-surface-vessel" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72389.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">271</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">63</span> Componential Analysis on Defining Sustainable Furniture in Traditional Malay Houses of Melaka</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nabilah%20Zainal%20Abidin">Nabilah Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fawazul%20Khair%20Ibrahim"> Fawazul Khair Ibrahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raja%20Nafida%20Raja%20Shahminan"> Raja Nafida Raja Shahminan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper discusses on how componential analysis is used in architecture, mainly in determining the absence and presence of furniture in Traditional Malay Houses. One of the reasons for this drawback is due to the relatively high cost needed to fly on the typical light aircraft. A smaller and lighter plane, widely known as Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) has the potential to attract more people to actively participate in numerous flying activities, such as for recreational, business trips or other personal purposes. In this paper, we propose a new LSA design with some simple, yet important analysis required in the aircraft conceptual design stage. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=light%20sport%20aircraft" title="light sport aircraft">light sport aircraft</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conceptual%20design" title=" conceptual design"> conceptual design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aircraft%20layout" title=" aircraft layout"> aircraft layout</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aircraft" title=" aircraft"> aircraft</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63570/keynote-speech-conceptual-design-of-a-short-take-off-and-landing-stol-light-sport-aircraft" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63570.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">346</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">61</span> Establishing Digital Forensics Capability and Capacity among Malaysia&#039;s Law Enforcement Agencies: Issues, Challenges and Recommendations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sarah%20Taylor">Sarah Taylor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nor%20Zarina%20Zainal%20Abidin"> Nor Zarina Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Zabri%20Adil%20Talib"> Mohd Zabri Adil Talib</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Although cybercrime is on the rise, yet many Law Enforcement Agencies in Malaysia faces difficulty in establishing own digital forensics capability and capacity. In this paper, a design of a compact 3-stage differential voltage controlled ring oscillator (VCRO) with low phase noise, low power and higher tuning bandwidth is proposed in 0.18 µm CMOS technology. The VCRO is designed with symmetric load and positive feedback techniques to achieve higher gain and minimum delay. The proposed VCRO can operate at tuning range of 3.9-5.0 GHz at 1.6 V supply voltage. The circuit consumes only 1.0757 mW of power and produces -129 dbc/Hz. The total active area of the proposed VCRO is only 11.74 x 37.73 µm2. It requires a deep understanding by the building managers on the factors that contribute to health and safety performances. This study attempted to develop an explanatory architectural safety performance model for stratified low-cost housing in Malaysia. The proposed Building Safety and Health Performance (BSHP) model was tested empirically through a survey on 308 construction practitioners using Partial Least Squares (PLS) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) tool. Statistical analysis results supports the conclusion that architecture, building services, external environment, management approaches and maintenance management have positive influence on safety and health performance of stratified low-cost housing in Malaysia. The findings provide valuable insights for construction industry to introduce BSHP model in the future where the model could be used as a guideline for training purposes of managers and better planning and implementation of building management. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20management" title="building management">building management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stratified%20low-cost%20housing" title=" stratified low-cost housing"> stratified low-cost housing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=safety" title=" safety"> safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20model" title=" health model"> health model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25509/architectural-building-safety-and-health-performance-model-for-stratified-low-cost-housing-education-and-management-tool-for-building-managers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25509.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">555</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">58</span> Influential Factors on Woodcarvings in Traditional Malay Houses of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurdiyana%20Zainal%20Abidin">Nurdiyana Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raja%20Nafida%20Raja%20Shahminan"> Raja Nafida Raja Shahminan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fawazul%20Khair%20Ibrahim"> Fawazul Khair Ibrahim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Timber vernacular houses in Malaysia are unique heritage buildings which can be identified through their designs, structure, architectural elements and ornamentations. Woodcarvings are common forms of ornamentations and decorations in Traditional Malay Houses and they can be found throughout Malaysia including in Negeri Sembilan. As a multi-cultural, multi-racial, and multi-religion state which uniquely practices the matrilineal social system, Negeri Sembilan has a strong connection to its’ history and heritage and in particular the distinctive vernacular architecture. The purpose of this paper is to underline the factors that influence the woodcarvings in Traditional Malay Houses in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The houses studied were from the archives of measured drawings in Center of Built Environment in the Malay World (KALAM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The findings indicated several factors influencing the woodcarver’s works and also the applications of the woodcarvings such as religious factors, cultural factors and political factors. These factors among several other shows that woodcarvings were predetermined before being carved and that they were not just merely placed without reason but are functioning pieces of aesthetic ornamentation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=influences" title="influences">influences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=traditional%20Malay%20houses" title=" traditional Malay houses"> traditional Malay houses</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=woodcarvings" title=" woodcarvings"> woodcarvings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-cultural" title=" multi-cultural"> multi-cultural</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25633/influential-factors-on-woodcarvings-in-traditional-malay-houses-of-negeri-sembilan-malaysia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25633.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">509</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">57</span> Value in Exchange: The Importance of Users Interaction as the Center of User Experiences</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ramlan%20Jantan">Ramlan Jantan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norfadilah%20Kamaruddin"> Norfadilah Kamaruddin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shahriman%20Zainal%20Abidin"> Shahriman Zainal Abidin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this era of technology, the co-creation method has become a new development trend. In this light, most design businesses have currently transformed their development strategy from being goods-dominant into service-dominant where more attention is given to the end-users and their roles in the development process. As a result, the conventional development process has been replaced with a more cooperative one. Consequently, numerous studies have been conducted to explore the extension of co-creation method in the design development process and most studies have focused on issues found during the production process. In the meantime, this study aims to investigate potential values established during the pre-production process, which is also known as the ‘circumstances value creation’. User involvement is questioned and crucially debate at the entry level of pre-production process in value in-exchange jointly spheres; thus user experiences took place. Thus, this paper proposed a potential framework of the co-creation method for Malaysian interactive product development. The framework is formulated from both parties involved: the users and designers. The framework will clearly give an explanation of the value of the co-creation method, and it could assist relevant design industries/companies in developing a blueprint for the design process. This paper further contributes to the literature on the co-creation of value and digital ecosystems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=co-creation%20method" title="co-creation method">co-creation method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=co-creation%20framework" title=" co-creation framework"> co-creation framework</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=co-creation" title=" co-creation"> co-creation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=co-production" title=" co-production"> co-production</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100837/value-in-exchange-the-importance-of-users-interaction-as-the-center-of-user-experiences" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100837.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">56</span> Assessing the Corporate Identity of Malaysia Universities in the East Coast Region with the Market Conditions in Ensuring Self-Sustainability: A Study on Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Suffian%20Hadi%20Ayub">Suffian Hadi Ayub</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Rezal%20Hamzah"> Mohammad Rezal Hamzah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nor%20Hafizah%20Abdullah"> Nor Hafizah Abdullah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sharipah%20Nur%20Mursalina%20Syed%20Azmy"> Sharipah Nur Mursalina Syed Azmy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hishamuddin%20Salim"> Hishamuddin Salim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The liberalisation of the education industry has exposed the institute of higher learning (IHL) in Malaysia to the financial challenges. Without good financial standing, public institution will rely on the government funding. Ostensibly, this contradicts with the government’s aspiration to make universities self-sufficient. With stiff competition from private institutes of higher learning, IHL need to be prepared at the forefront level. The corporate identity itself is the entrance to the world of higher learning and it is in this uniqueness, it will be able to distinguish itself from competitors. This paper examined the perception of the stakeholders at one of the public universities in the east coast region in Malaysia on the perceived reputation and how the university communicate its preparedness for self-sustainability through corporate identity. The findings indicated while the stakeholders embraced the challenges in facing the stiff competition and struggling market conditions, most of them felt the university should put more efforts in mobilising the corporate identity to its constituencies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=communication" title="communication">communication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corporate%20identity" title=" corporate identity"> corporate identity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=market%20conditions" title=" market conditions"> market conditions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=universities" title=" universities"> universities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38341/assessing-the-corporate-identity-of-malaysia-universities-in-the-east-coast-region-with-the-market-conditions-in-ensuring-self-sustainability-a-study-on-universiti-sultan-zainal-abidin" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38341.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">314</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">55</span> JENOSYS: Application of a Web-Based Online Energy Performance Reporting Tool for Government Buildings in Malaysia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norhayati%20Mat%20Wajid">Norhayati Mat Wajid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Murad%20Zainal%20Abidin"> Abdul Murad Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Faiz%20Fadzil"> Faiz Fadzil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Yusof%20Aizad%20Mukhtar"> Mohd Yusof Aizad Mukhtar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> One of the areas that present an opportunity to reduce the national carbon emission is the energy management of public buildings. To our present knowledge, there is no easy-to-use and centralized mechanism that enables the government to monitor the overall energy performance, as well as the carbon footprint, of Malaysia&rsquo;s public buildings. Therefore, the Public Works Department Malaysia, or PWD, has developed a web-based energy performance reporting tool called JENOSYS (JKR Energy Online System), which incorporates a database of utility account numbers acquired from the utility service provider for analysis and reporting. For test case purposes, 23 buildings under PWD were selected and monitored for their monthly energy performance (in kWh), carbon emission reduction (in tCO₂eq) and utility cost (in MYR), against the baseline. This paper demonstrates the simplicity with which buildings without energy metering can be monitored centrally and the benefits that can be accrued by the government in terms of building energy disclosure and concludes with the recommendation of expanding the system to all the public buildings in Malaysia. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy-efficient%20buildings" title="energy-efficient buildings">energy-efficient buildings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20management%20systems" title=" energy management systems"> energy management systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=government%20buildings" title=" government buildings"> government buildings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=JENOSYS" title=" JENOSYS"> JENOSYS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88725/jenosys-application-of-a-web-based-online-energy-performance-reporting-tool-for-government-buildings-in-malaysia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88725.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">174</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">54</span> Performance Evaluation of Vermiculite as Adsorbent Material for Solar-Assisted Air-Conditioning in Tropical Climate</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norhayati%20Mat%20Wajid">Norhayati Mat Wajid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Murad%20Zainal%20Abidin"> Abdul Murad Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hasila%20Jarimi"> Hasila Jarimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamaruzaman%20Sopian"> Kamaruzaman Sopian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adnan%20Ibrahim"> Adnan Ibrahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmad%20Fazlizan"> Ahmad Fazlizan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afif%20Safwan"> Afif Safwan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Solar-adsorption air-conditioning system (SADCS) is an alternative to the conventional vapor compression system (VCS). SADCS have advantages over VCS system, such as 1) a green cooling technology which utilizes solar energy to drive the adsorption/desorption cycle, 2) can be operated using green refrigerant HFC free pure water, 3) mechanically simpler, and 4) lower operating noise level since it has no moving parts other than the magnetic valves. Several advancements have been achieved in these fields in the last decade, but further research is still needed to escalate this technology to a practical level. Hence, this paper presents a literature survey and a review that add insights into the current state-of-the-art of SADCS technologies with emphasis on the practical researches that were conducted at the laboratory scale and commercial level. In this paper, the performance evaluation of vermiculite as adsorbent material for SADCS in tropical climate discussed in comparison to other adsorbent material such as silica gel. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adsorption%20cooling" title="adsorption cooling">adsorption cooling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar-assisted%20cooling" title=" solar-assisted cooling"> solar-assisted cooling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HVAC" title=" HVAC"> HVAC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tropical%20climate" title=" tropical climate"> tropical climate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20thermal" title=" solar thermal"> solar thermal</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144652/performance-evaluation-of-vermiculite-as-adsorbent-material-for-solar-assisted-air-conditioning-in-tropical-climate" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144652.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">154</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">53</span> Temperature Distribution in Friction Stir Welding Using Finite Element Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Armansyah">Armansyah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=I.%20P.%20Almanar"> I. In order to obtain temperature distribution in the welded aluminum plates during welding operation, transient thermal finite element analyses are performed. Heat input from tool shoulder and tool pin are considered in the model. A moving heat source with a heat distribution simulating the heat generated by frictions between tool shoulder and workpiece is used in the analysis. Three-dimensional model for simulated process is carried out by using Altair HyperWork, a commercially available software. Transient thermal finite element analyses are performed in order to obtain the temperature distribution in the welded Aluminum plates during welding operation. The developed model was then used to show the effect of various input parameters such as total rate of welding speed and rotational speed on temperature distribution in the workpiece. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frictions%20stir%20welding" title="frictions stir welding">frictions stir welding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature%20distribution" title=" temperature distribution"> temperature distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20method" title=" finite element method"> finite element method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=altair%20hyperwork" title=" altair hyperwork"> altair hyperwork</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14092/temperature-distribution-in-friction-stir-welding-using-finite-element-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14092.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">543</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">52</span> Profiling on the Holistic Identity of Malaysian Gifted Learners</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rorlinda%20Yusof">Rorlinda Yusof</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siti%20Aishah%20Hassan"> Siti Aishah Hassan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afifah%20Mohamad%20Radzi"> Afifah Mohamad Radzi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Hakimie%20Zainal%20Abidin"> Mohd Hakimie Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amran%20Rasli"> Amran Rasli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Inderbir%20Sandhu"> Inderbir Sandhu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this study is to examine the self-identities of gifted and talented students and the relationship between self-identity and academic accomplishment. A random sample of 300 students enrolled in a secondary education programme at the Pusat GENIUS@pintar Negara was chosen as respondents of a 151-item holistic-identity component development tool. The validity of the instrument was assessed using Principal Components Analysis and Factor Analysis via an inter-Item Correlation Matrix (Loading values 0.44 to 0.86), which resulted in the formation of eight dimensions. The Cronbach's Alpha was calculated to determine the instrument's reliability (the overall result was 0.98). The results showed that students' holistic-identity profiles were relatively high (mean=4.09, standard deviation=0.449). In addition, spiritual identity received the greatest mean score (4.34) out of the eight components of identity investigated, while leadership identity received the lowest mean score (3.88). A conceptual framework for Islamic school leadership is recommended to implement spiritual values without differentiation to harmonize spiritual and intellectual intelligence among all the students. Instrumentation and fittings were destroyed in the fire. To make it worst, this incident occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, making collecting and testing evidence delayed. In addition to that, the storage tank belonged to a third-party company which requires legal agreement prior to the refinery getting approval to test the remains. Despite all that, the investigation had to be carried out with stakeholders demanding answers. The investigation team had to devise alternative means to support whatever little evidence came out as the most probable root cause. International standards, practices, and previous incidents on similar tanks were referred. To narrow down to just one root cause from 8 possible causes, transient simulations were conducted to simulate the overpressure scenarios to prove and eliminate the other causes, leaving one root cause. This paper shares the methodology used and details how transient simulations were applied to help solve this. The experience and lessons learned gained from the event investigation and from numerous case studies via transient analysis in finding the root cause of the accident leads to the formulation of future mitigations and design modifications aiming at preventing such incidents or at least minimize the consequences from the fire incident. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fire" title="fire">fire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transient" title=" transient"> transient</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title=" simulation"> simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relief" title=" relief"> relief</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166904/predicting-root-cause-of-a-fire-incident-through-transient-simulation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166904.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">95</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">50</span> Effect of Particles Size and Volume Fraction Concentration on the Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Diffusivity of Al2O3 Nanofluids Measured Using Transient Hot–Wire Laser Beam Deflection Technique</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=W.%20Mahmood%20Mat%20Yunus">W. The nanofluids were prepared using single step method (i.e. by dispersing nanoparticle directly in base fluid) which was gathered in ultrasonic device for approximately 7 hours. The transient hot-wire laser beam displacement technique was used to measure the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of the prepared nanofluids. The thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity were obtained by fitting the experimental data to the numerical data simulated for aluminum oxide in distilled water. The results show that the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of nanofluids increases in non-linear behavior as the particle size increases. While, the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of Al2O3 nanofluids was observed increasing linearly with concentration as the volume fraction concentration increases. We believe that the interfacial layer between solid/fluid is the main factor for the enhancement of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of Al2O3 nanofluids in the present work. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transient%20hot%20wire-laser%20beam%20technique" title="transient hot wire-laser beam technique">transient hot wire-laser beam technique</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Al2O3%20nanofluid" title=" Al2O3 nanofluid"> Al2O3 nanofluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20size" title=" particle size"> particle size</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=volume%20fraction%20concentration" title=" volume fraction concentration"> volume fraction concentration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3987/effect-of-particles-size-and-volume-fraction-concentration-on-the-thermal-conductivity-and-thermal-diffusivity-of-al2o3-nanofluids-measured-using-transient-hot-wire-laser-beam-deflection-technique" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3987.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">551</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">49</span> Using Thinking Blocks to Encourage the Use of Higher Order Thinking Skills among Students When Solving Problems on Fractions </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Halim%20Abdullah">Abdul Halim Abdullah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nur%20Liyana%20Zainal%20Abidin"> Nur Liyana Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahani%20Mokhtar"> Mahani Mokhtar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Problem-solving is an activity which can encourage students to use Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Learning fractions can be challenging for students since empirical evidence shows that students experience difficulties in solving the fraction problems. However, visual methods can help students to overcome the difficulties since the methods help students to make meaningful visual representations and link abstract concepts in Mathematics. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether there were any changes in students&rsquo; HOTS at the four highest levels when learning the fractions by using Thinking Blocks. 54 students participated in a quasi-experiment using pre-tests and post-tests. Students were divided into two groups. The experimental group (n=32) received a treatment to improve the students&rsquo; HOTS and the other group acted as the control group (n=22) which used a traditional method. Data were analysed by using Mann-Whitney test. The results indicated that during post-test, students who used Thinking Blocks showed significant improvement in their HOTS level (p=0.000). In addition, the results of post-test also showed that the students&rsquo; performance improved significantly at the four highest levels of HOTS; namely, application (p=0.001), analyse (p=0.000), evaluate (p=0.000), and create (p=0.000). Therefore, it can be concluded that Thinking Blocks can effectively encourage students to use the four highest levels of HOTS which consequently enable them to solve fractions problems successfully. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thinking%20Blocks" title="Thinking Blocks">Thinking Blocks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Higher%20Order%20Thinking%20Skills%20%28HOTS%29" title=" Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)"> Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fractions" title=" fractions"> fractions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=problem%20solving" title=" problem solving"> problem solving</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55882/using-thinking-blocks-to-encourage-the-use-of-higher-order-thinking-skills-among-students-when-solving-problems-on-fractions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55882.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">270</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">48</span> Microstructures and Chemical Compositions of Quarry Dust As Alternative Building Material in Malaysia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Murad%20Zainal%20Abidin">Abdul Murad Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tuan%20Suhaimi%20Salleh"> Tuan Suhaimi Salleh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siti%20Nor%20Azila%20Khalid"> Siti Nor Azila Khalid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noryati%20Mustapa"> Noryati Mustapa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Quarry dust is a quarry end product from rock crushing processes, which is a concentrated material used as an alternative to fine aggregates for concreting purposes. In quarrying activities, the rocks are crushed into aggregates of varying sizes, from 75mm until less than 4.5 mm, the size of which is categorized as quarry dust. The quarry dust is usually considered as waste and not utilized as a recycled aggregate product. The dumping of the quarry dust at the quarry plant poses the risk of environmental pollution and health hazard. Therefore, the research is an attempt to identify the potential of quarry dust as an alternative building material that would reduce the materials and construction costs, as well as contribute effort in mitigating depletion of natural resources. The objectives are to conduct material characterization and evaluate the properties of fresh and hardened engineering brick with quarry dust mix proportion. The microstructures of quarry dust and the bricks were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the results suggest that the shape and surface texture of quarry dust is a combination of hard and angular formation. The chemical composition of the quarry dust was also evaluated using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and compared against sand and concrete. The quarry dust was found to have a higher presence of alumina (Al₂O₃), indicating the possibility of an early strength effect for brick. They are utilizing quarry dust waste as replacement material has the potential of conserving non-renewable resources as well as providing a viable alternative to disposal of current quarry waste. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20materials" title="building materials">building materials</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cement%20replacement" title=" cement replacement"> cement replacement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quarry%20microstructure" title=" quarry microstructure"> quarry microstructure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quarry%20product" title=" quarry product"> quarry product</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20materials" title=" sustainable materials"> sustainable materials</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143286/microstructures-and-chemical-compositions-of-quarry-dust-as-alternative-building-material-in-malaysia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143286.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">182</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">47</span> Service Interactions Coordination Using a Declarative Approach: Focuses on Deontic Rule from Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Rules Models</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurulhuda%20A.%20Manaf">Nurulhuda A. The complexity in coordinating service interactions reflects how important the techniques and approaches require for designing and coordinating the interaction between participant services to ensure the overall goal of a collaboration between participant services is achieved. The objective of this research is to develop capability of steering a complex service interaction towards a desired outcome. Therefore, an efficient technique for modelling, generating, and verifying the coordination of service interactions is developed. The developed model describes service interactions using service choreographies approach and focusing on a declarative approach, advocating an Object Management Group (OMG) standard, Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Rules (SBVR). This model, namely, SBVR model for service choreographies focuses on a declarative deontic rule expressing both obligation and prohibition, which can be more useful in working with coordinating service interactions. The generated SBVR model is then be formulated and be transformed into Alloy model using Alloy Analyzer for verifying the generated SBVR model. The transformation of SBVR into Alloy allows to automatically generate the corresponding coordination of service interactions (service choreography), hence producing an immediate instance of execution that satisfies the constraints of the specification and verifies whether a specific request can be realised in the given choreography in the generated choreography. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=service%20choreography" title="service choreography">service choreography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=service%20coordination" title=" service coordination"> service coordination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=behavioural%20modelling" title=" behavioural modelling"> behavioural modelling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=complex%20interactions" title=" complex interactions"> complex interactions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=declarative%20specification" title=" declarative specification"> declarative specification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=verification" title=" verification"> verification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=model%20transformation" title=" model transformation"> model transformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semantics%20of%20business%20vocabulary%20and%20rules" title=" semantics of business vocabulary and rules"> semantics of business vocabulary and rules</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SBVR" title=" SBVR"> SBVR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122564/service-interactions-coordination-using-a-declarative-approach-focuses-on-deontic-rule-from-semantics-of-business-vocabulary-and-rules-models" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122564.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">154</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> Sustainability Analysis and Quality Assessment of Rainwater Harvested from Green Roofs: A Review</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mst.%20Nilufa%20Sultana">Mst. Global climate change is due to rapid urbanization, industrialization, high population growth and current vulnerability of the climatic condition. Water is becoming scarce as a result of global climate change. To mitigate the problem arising due to global climate change and its drought effect, harvesting rainwater from green roofs, an environmentally-friendly and versatile technology, is becoming one of the best assessment criteria and gaining attention in Malaysia. This paper addresses the sustainability of green roofs and examines the quality of water harvested from green roofs in comparison to rainwater. The factors that affect the quality of such water, taking into account, for example, roofing materials, climatic conditions, the frequency of rainfall frequency and the first flush. A green roof was installed on the Humid Tropic Centre (HTC) is a place of the study on monitoring program for urban Stormwater Management Manual for Malaysia (MSMA), Eco-Hydrological Project in Kualalumpur, and the rainwater was harvested and evaluated on the basis of four parameters i.e., conductivity, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH and temperature. These parameters were found to fall between Class I and Class III of the Interim National Water Quality Standards (INWQS) and the Water Quality Index (WQI). Some preliminary treatment such as disinfection and filtration could likely to improve the value of these parameters to class I. This review paper clearly indicates that there is a need for more research to address other microbiological and chemical quality parameters to ensure that the harvested water is suitable for use potable water for domestic purposes. The change in all physical, chemical and microbiological parameters with respect to storage time will be a major focus of future studies in this field. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Green%20roofs" title="Green roofs">Green roofs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=INWQS" title=" INWQS"> INWQS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MSMA-SME" title=" MSMA-SME"> MSMA-SME</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rainwater%20harvesting" title=" rainwater harvesting"> rainwater harvesting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20treatment" title=" water treatment"> water treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20quality%20parameter" title=" water quality parameter"> water quality parameter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=WQI" title=" WQI"> WQI</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23143/sustainability-analysis-and-quality-assessment-of-rainwater-harvested-from-green-roofs-a-review" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23143.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">533</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> Increasing Sulfur Handling Cost Efficiency Using the Eco Sulfur Paving Block Method at PT Pertamina EP Field Cepu</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adha%20Bayu%20Wijaya">Adha Bayu Wijaya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Zainal%20Abidin"> A. Commercial applications of sulfur processed products can be found in various aspects of life, for example in the use of processed sulfur as paving blocks. The Gundih Central Processing Plant (CPP) is capable of producing 14 tons/day of sulfur pellets. This amount comes from the high H2S content of the wells with a total concentration of 20,000 ppm and a volume accumulation of 14 MMSCFD acid gas. H2S is converted to sulfur using the thiobacillus microbe in the Biological Sulfur Recovery Unit (BSRU) with a sulfur product purity level greater than 95%. In 2018 sulfur production at Gundih CPP was recorded at 4044 tons which could potentially trigger serious problems from an environmental aspect. The use of sulfur as material for making paving blocks is an alternative solution in addressing the potential impact on the environment, as regulated by Government Regulation No.22 of Year 2021 concerning the Waste Management of Non-Hazardous and Toxic Substances (B3), and the high cost of handling sulfur by third parties. The design mix of ratio sulfur paving blocks is 22% cements, rock ash 67%, and 11% of sulfur pellets. The sulfur used in making the paving mixture is pure sulfur, namely the side product category without any contaminants, thereby eliminating the potential for environmental pollution when implementing sulfur paving. Strength tests of sulfur paving materials have also been confirmed by external laboratories. The standard used in making sulfur paving blocks refers to the SNI 03-0691-1996 standard. With the results of sulfur paving blocks made according to quality B. Currently, sulfur paving blocks are used in building access to wells locations and in public roads in the Cepu Field area as a contribution from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sulphur" title="sulphur">sulphur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=innovation" title=" innovation"> innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=paving%20block" title=" paving block"> paving block</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CSR" title=" CSR"> CSR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sulphur%20paving" title=" sulphur paving"> sulphur paving</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/175532/increasing-sulfur-handling-cost-efficiency-using-the-eco-sulfur-paving-block-method-at-pt-pertamina-ep-field-cepu" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/175532.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">75</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">44</span> Thermoelectric Cooler As A Heat Transfer Device For Thermal Conductivity Test</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Murad%20Zainal%20Abidin">Abdul Murad Zainal Abidin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azahar%20Mohd"> Azahar Mohd</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nor%20Idayu%20Arifin"> Nor Idayu Arifin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siti%20Nor%20Azila%20Khalid"> Siti Nor Azila Khalid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Julzaha%20Zahari%20Mohamad%20Yusof"> Mohd Julzaha Zahari Mohamad Yusof</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A thermoelectric cooler (TEC) is an electronic component that uses ‘peltier’ effect to create a temperature difference by transferring heat between two electrical junctions of two different types of materials. TEC can also be used for heating by reversing the electric current flow and even power generation. A heat flow meter (HFM) is an equipment for measuring thermal conductivity of building materials. During the test, water is used as heat transfer medium to cool the HFM. The existing re-circulating cooler in the market is very costly, and the alternative is to use piped tap water to extract heat from HFM. However, the tap water temperature is insufficiently low to enable heat transfer to take place. The operating temperature for isothermal plates in the HFM is 40°C with the range of ±0.02°C. When the temperature exceeds the operating range, the HFM stops working, and the test cannot be conducted. The aim of the research is to develop a low-cost but energy-efficient TEC prototype that enables heat transfer without compromising the function of the HFM. The objectives of the research are a) to identify potential of TEC as a cooling device by evaluating its cooling rate and b) to determine the amount of water savings using TEC compared to normal tap water. Four (4) peltier sets were used, with two (2) sets used as pre-cooler. The cooling water is re-circulated from the reservoir into HFM using a water pump. The thermal conductivity readings, the water flow rate, and the power consumption were measured while the HFM was operating. The measured data has shown decrease in average cooling temperature difference (ΔTave) of 2.42°C and average cooling rate of 0.031°C/min. The water savings accrued from using the TEC is projected to be 8,332.8 litres/year with the application of water re-circulation. The results suggest the prototype has achieved required objectives. Further research will include comparing the cooling rate of TEC prototype against conventional tap water and to optimize its design and performance in terms of size and portability. The possible application of the prototype could also be expanded to portable storage for medicine and beverages. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20efficiency" title="energy efficiency">energy efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermoelectric%20cooling" title=" thermoelectric cooling"> thermoelectric cooling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pre-cooling%20device" title=" pre-cooling device"> pre-cooling device</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20flow%20meter" title=" heat flow meter"> heat flow meter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20technology" title=" sustainable technology"> sustainable technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20conductivity" title=" thermal conductivity"> thermal conductivity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144569/thermoelectric-cooler-as-a-heat-transfer-device-for-thermal-conductivity-test" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144569.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">155</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">43</span> Influence of Thermal Processing Methods on Antinutrient of Artocarpus heterophyllus Seeds</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marina%20Zulkifli">Marina Zulkifli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Faizal%20Mashhod"> Mohd Faizal Mashhod</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noriham%20Abdullah"> Noriham Abdullah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this study was to determine the antinutrient compounds of jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) seeds as affected by thermal processes. The linear stability analysis is used, and the eigenvalue is obtained using the Galerkin method. The impact of the Soret and Coriolis force on the onset of stationary convection in a system is analysed with respect to various Binary fluid parameters and presented graphically. It is found that an increase of the Soret values, destabilize the Binary fluid layer system. However, elevating the values of the Coriolis force helps to lag the onset of convection in a system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benard%20convection" title="Benard convection">Benard convection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=binary%20fluid" title=" binary fluid"> binary fluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Coriolis" title=" Coriolis"> Coriolis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soret" title=" Soret "> Soret </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68076/soret-driven-convection-in-a-binary-fluid-with-coriolis-force" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68076.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">386</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Development of Portable Water Jet Cutter Mobile Hand Tool: Analysis of Nozzle Geometries and Materials</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Razali%20Bin%20Abidin">Razali Bin Abidin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents the development of a portable water jet cutter for soft materials such as meat. Food waste decomposition process was conducted for 14 days and kept at 20°C and 30°C in self-made bioreactor. VOCs emissions from both samples were collected at different stages of decomposition starting at day 0, day 1, day 3, day 5, day 7, day 10, day 12 and day 14. It was analyzed using TD-GC/MS. Findings showed that various VOCs were released during decomposition of food waste. Compounds produced were influenced by time, temperature and the physico-chemical characteristics of the compounds. The most abundant compound released was dimethyl disulfide. Potential health risk of exposure to this compound is represented by hazard ratio, HR, calculated at 1.6 x 1011. Since HR equal to or less than 1.0 is considered negligible risk, this indicates that the compound posed a potential risk to human health. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=volatile%20organic%20compounds" title="volatile organic compounds">volatile organic compounds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decomposition%20process" title=" decomposition process"> decomposition process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=food%20waste" title=" food waste"> food waste</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20risk" title=" health risk"> health risk</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39703/volatile-organic-compounds-from-decomposition-of-local-food-waste-and-potential-health-risk" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39703.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">520</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Political Cinema: Rewriting The Malaysian Political History Through Documentary Films </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raja%20Rodziah%20Binti%20Raja%20Zainal%20Hassan">Raja Rodziah Binti Raja Zainal Hassan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The development of Malaysian political cinema is rapidly taking shape in the local film industry. The paper focuses on the production of independent political documentary by two Malaysian filmmakers, Amir Muhammad and Fahmi Reza. Revolutionary cinema can be understood by utilizing the Third Cinema Theory in order to analyse the meaning and its impact on the audience. The issue surrounding the political cinema in Malaysia is the question of national identity. The implementation of racial or ethnic based politics has resulted in hostility within Malaysia’s multiracial society. Amir Muhammad and Fahmi Reza revisit the Malaysian political history through their films in order to understand the reasons behind the hostility and conflict. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Political%20cinema" title="Political cinema">Political cinema</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=third%20cinema%20theory" title=" third cinema theory"> third cinema theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=revolutionary%20cinema" title=" revolutionary cinema"> revolutionary cinema</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=national%20identity" title=" national identity"> national identity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=racial%20or%20ethnic%20politics" title=" racial or ethnic politics"> racial or ethnic politics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2388/political-cinema-rewriting-the-malaysian-political-history-through-documentary-films" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2388.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">433</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> Solving Directional Overcurrent Relay Coordination Problem Using Artificial Bees Colony</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20H.%20Hussain">M. The coordination optimization of DOCRs is formulated as linear programming (LP) problem. The objective function is introduced to minimize the operating time of the associated relay which depends on the time multiplier setting. The proposed technique is to taken as a technique for comparison purpose in order to highlight its superiority. The proposed algorithms have been tested successfully on 8 bus test system. The simulation results demonstrated that the ABC algorithm which has been proved to have good search ability is capable in dealing with constraint optimization problems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20bees%20colony" title="artificial bees colony">artificial bees colony</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=directional%20overcurrent%20relay%20coordination%20problem" title=" directional overcurrent relay coordination problem"> directional overcurrent relay coordination problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relay%20settings" title=" relay settings"> relay settings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time%20multiplier%20setting" title=" time multiplier setting"> time multiplier setting</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9892/solving-directional-overcurrent-relay-coordination-problem-using-artificial-bees-colony" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9892.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">330</span> </span> </div> </div> <ul class="pagination"> <li class="page-item disabled"><span class="page-link">&lsaquo;</span></li> <li class="page-item active"><span class="page-link">1</span></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zulkifli%20Zainal%20Abidin&amp;page=2">2</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zulkifli%20Zainal%20Abidin&amp;page=3">3</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zulkifli%20Zainal%20Abidin&amp;page=2" rel="next">&rsaquo;</a></li> </ul> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
