In recent years, due to climate change, human activities and other factors the frequency of forest fires has increased considerably. The monitoring and prevention of forest fires have now become a global concern for forest fire prevention organizations. Currently, the methods for forest fire prevention largely consist of patrols, observation from watch towers. Thus, software like deployment of the wireless sensor network to prevent forest fire is being developed to get a better estimate of the temperature and humidity prospects. Now days, wireless sensor networks are beginning to be deployed at an accelerated pace. It is not unrealistic to expect that in coming years the world will be covered with wireless sensor networks. This new technology has lots of unlimited potentials and can be used for numerous application areas including environmental, medical, military, transportation, entertainment, crisis management, homeland defense, and smart spaces. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deployment" title="deployment">deployment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensors" title=" sensors"> sensors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20sensor%20networks" title=" wireless sensor networks"> wireless sensor networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forest%20fires" title=" forest fires"> forest fires</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3989/design-an-architectural-model-for-deploying-wireless-sensor-network-to-prevent-forest-fire" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3989.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">436</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">94</span> Lubricating Grease from Waste Cooking Oil and Waste Motor Sludge</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aseem%20Rajvanshi">Aseem Rajvanshi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pankaj%20Kumar%20Pandey"> Pankaj Kumar Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Increase in population has increased the demand of energy to fulfill all its needs. This will result in burden on fossil fuels especially crude oil. Waste oil due to its disposal problem creates environmental degradation. In this context, this paper studies utilization of waste cooking oil and waste motor sludge for making lubricating grease. Experimental studies have been performed by variation in time and concentration of mixture of waste cooking oil and waste motor sludge. The samples were analyzed using penetration test (ASTM D-217), dropping point (ASTM D-566), work penetration (ASTM D-217) and copper strip test (ASTM D-408). Among 6 samples, sample 6 gives the best results with a good drop point and a fine penetration value. The dropping point and penetration test values were found to be 205 °C and 315, respectively. The penetration value falls under the category of NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute) consistency number 1. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crude%20oil" title="crude oil">crude oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copper%20strip%20corrosion%20test" title=" copper strip corrosion test"> copper strip corrosion test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dropping%20point" title=" dropping point"> dropping point</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=penetration%20test" title=" penetration test"> penetration test</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55642/lubricating-grease-from-waste-cooking-oil-and-waste-motor-sludge" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55642.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">295</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">93</span> Approximations of Fractional Derivatives and Its Applications in Solving Non-Linear Fractional Variational Problems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Harendra%20Singh">Harendra Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rajesh%20Pandey"> Rajesh Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The paper presents a numerical method based on operational matrix of integration and Ryleigh method for the solution of a class of non-linear fractional variational problems (NLFVPs). Chebyshev first kind polynomials are used for the construction of operational matrix. Using operational matrix and Ryleigh method the NLFVP is converted into a system of non-linear algebraic equations, and solving these equations we obtained approximate solution for NLFVPs. Convergence analysis of the proposed method is provided. Numerical experiment is done to show the applicability of the proposed numerical method. The obtained numerical results are compared with exact solution and solution obtained from Chebyshev third kind. Further the results are shown graphically for different fractional order involved in the problems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20fractional%20variational%20problems" title="non-linear fractional variational problems">non-linear fractional variational problems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rayleigh-Ritz%20method" title=" Rayleigh-Ritz method"> Rayleigh-Ritz method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convergence%20analysis" title=" convergence analysis"> convergence analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=error%20analysis" title=" error analysis"> error analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57497/approximations-of-fractional-derivatives-and-its-applications-in-solving-non-linear-fractional-variational-problems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57497.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">298</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">92</span> Study the Action of Malathion Induced Enzymatic Changes in the Target Organ of Fish Labeo Rohita</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sudha%20Summarwar">Sudha Summarwar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jyotsana%20Pandey"> Jyotsana Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Deepali%20Lall"> Deepali Lall</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Malathion compound has the great tendency to be accumulated in the organs of the fishes both if it is present in traces or in higher amount in the aquatic environment. Tornadoes are violent atmospheric phenomenon that appear all over the world. Modelling tornadoes aim to reduce the loss of the human lives and material damage caused by the tornadoes. Dynamics of tornado is investigated by a numerical technique, the improved version of the projection method. In this paper, authors solve the problem for axisymmetric tornado vortex by the said method that uses a finite difference approach for getting an accurate and stable solution. The conclusions drawn are that large radial inflow velocity occurs near the ground that leads to increase the tangential velocity. The increased velocity phenomenon occurs close to the boundary and absolute maximum wind is obtained near the vortex core. The results validate previous numerical and theoretical models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20dynamics" title="computational fluid dynamics">computational fluid dynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematical%20model" title=" mathematical model"> mathematical model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Navier-Stokes%20equations" title=" Navier-Stokes equations"> Navier-Stokes equations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tornado" title=" tornado"> tornado</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67257/numerical-solution-of-a-mathematical-model-of-vortex-using-projection-method-applications-to-tornado-dynamics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67257.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">353</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">90</span> Design of Compact Dual-Band Planar Antenna for WLAN Systems </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anil%20Kumar%20Pandey">Anil Kumar Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A compact planar monopole antenna with dual-band operation suitable for wireless local area network (WLAN) application is presented in this paper. The antenna occupies an overall area of 18 ×12 mm2. The antenna is fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) transmission line and it combines two folded strips, which radiates at 2.4 and 5.2 GHz. In the proposed antenna, by optimally selecting the antenna dimensions, dual-band resonant modes with a much wider impedance matching at the higher band can be produced. Prototypes of the obtained optimized design have been simulated using EM solver. The simulated results explore good dual-band operation with -10 dB impedance bandwidths of 50 MHz and 2400 MHz at bands of 2.4 and 5.2 GHz, respectively, which cover the 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN operating bands. Good antenna performances such as radiation patterns and antenna gains over the operating bands have also been observed. The antenna with a compact size of 18×12×1.6 mm3 is designed on an FR4 substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CPW%20antenna" title="CPW antenna">CPW antenna</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual-band" title=" dual-band"> dual-band</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20simulation" title=" electromagnetic simulation"> electromagnetic simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20local%20area%20network%20%28WLAN%29" title=" wireless local area network (WLAN)"> wireless local area network (WLAN)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85699/design-of-compact-dual-band-planar-antenna-for-wlan-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85699.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">209</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">89</span> Telephone Health Service to Improve the Quality of Life of the People Living with AIDS in Eastern Nepal</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ram%20Sharan%20Mehta">Ram Sharan Mehta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naveen%20Kumar%20Pandey"> Naveen Kumar Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Binod%20Kumar%20Deo"> Binod Kumar Deo </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Quality of Life (QOL) is an important component in the evaluation of the well-being of People Living with AIDS (PLWA). For this purpose, agriculture waste rice husk (RH) has been utilized. Among several types of agriculture waste, RH is considered to be cost-effective and easily accessible. In the present investigation, a chemical approach has been followed to extract silica nanoparticles. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) patterns indicated the amorphous nature of silica at lower temperature range. Silica and other mineral contents have been found using energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Morphological and structural studies have been carried out with the use of Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Transmission (FTIR) spectroscopy. Further, extracted silica from RH has been used for preparation of the glasses. The appearance of broad humps in XRD patterns confirmed the amorphous nature of prepared glasses. These glasses exhibited enhanced antibacterial effect against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The as-synthesized glass samples can be further used for physical and structural studies for drug loading applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rice%20husk" title="rice husk">rice husk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biosynthesized%20silica" title=" biosynthesized silica"> biosynthesized silica</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioactive%20glasses" title=" bioactive glasses"> bioactive glasses</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibacterial%20studies" title=" antibacterial studies"> antibacterial studies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125359/in-vitro-and-antibacterial-studies-for-silicate-phosphate-glasses-formed-with-biosynthesized-silica" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125359.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">114</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">87</span> Operating System Based Virtualization Models in Cloud Computing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dev%20Ras%20Pandey">Dev Ras Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bharat%20Mishra"> Bharat Mishra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20K.%20Tripathi"> S. The ability to run a hypervisor inside a virtual machine is important feature of virtualization and it is called nested virtualization. In today’s growing field of information technology, many of the virtualization models are available, that provide a convenient approach to implement, but decision for a single model selection is difficult. This paper explains the applications of operating system based virtualization in cloud computing with an appropriate/suitable model with their different specifications and user’s requirements. In the present paper, most popular models are selected, and the selection was based on container and hypervisor based virtualization. Selected models were compared with a wide range of user’s requirements as number of CPUs, memory size, nested virtualization supports, live migration and commercial supports, etc. and we identified a most suitable model of virtualization. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtualization" title="virtualization">virtualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=OS%20based%20virtualization" title=" OS based virtualization"> OS based virtualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=container%20based%20virtualization" title=" container based virtualization"> container based virtualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hypervisor%20based%20virtualization" title=" hypervisor based virtualization"> hypervisor based virtualization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68118/operating-system-based-virtualization-models-in-cloud-computing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68118.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">329</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">86</span> Gender and Change of Socio-Cultural Behavior: A Case Study of Sarangkot VDC of Kaski District</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Padam%20Pandey">Padam Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Madhu%20Sudan%20Dhakal"> Madhu Sudan Dhakal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> As a consequence of being a patrimonial society, most of the Nepalese women work inside the house and take care their children. Men are always regarded to be responsible for managing fund to fulfill the family requirement. Outgoing men of 25-35 for employment in foreign country is a common practice. In the absence of man, women aged of 20-45 have to be active in society. The responsibility of women is not only looking after inside the house but also leading the society. This study analysis gender aspect of household work and involvement in the society. This study shows that women are leading 56% different organizations in the society where 51% women spend more than 54% time in community development work. The involvement of man in the house work has significantly increased. The women leadership has succeeded to show the transparency in all the community development activities. It shows a model of social harmony, solidarity, and unity in the Sarankot Village Development Committee. Social behavior change towards women is a milestone of sustainable community development. The paper will discuss issues related to the selection of iron ore, structure of furnace, making of tuyeres, fashioning of blowers and firing temperatures through experiments conducted recently and scientific analyses of experimental work. Experiments were conducted in order to investigate iron smelting techniques used at the Early Historic site of Nathara-Ki-Pal. (73°47’E; 24°16N is located about 70 km south-east of Udaipur city). Geographically, Nathara-Ki-Pal has located the foot hills of Aravalli’s. Iron ore and iron slag can be seen on the surface of the site. The remains of 4 broken furnaces were recovered during excavations (2007 and 2008) and the site was excavated by Prof. Pandey from the Department of Archaeology of the Institute of Rajasthan studies, Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University. This shows that the site of Nathara-Ki-Pal was a center of iron smelting. Results of experiments performed both in the field reconstruction of a bloomery furnace and in the laboratory are discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=experimental%20studies" title="experimental studies">experimental studies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=furnace" title=" furnace"> furnace</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smelting%20techniques" title=" smelting techniques"> smelting techniques</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=making%20of%20tuyeres" title=" making of tuyeres"> making of tuyeres</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78056/an-experimental-study-of-iron-smelting-techniques-used-in-the-south-east-rajasthan-with-special-reference-to-nathara-ki-pal-udaipur" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78056.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">188</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">84</span> Microarray Data Visualization and Preprocessing Using R and Bioconductor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ruchi%20Yadav">Ruchi Yadav</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shivani%20Pandey"> Shivani Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Prachi%20Srivastava"> Prachi Srivastava</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Microarrays provide a rich source of data on the molecular working of cells. Each microarray reports on the abundance of tens of thousands of mRNAs. Virtually every human disease is being studied using microarrays with the hope of finding the molecular mechanisms of disease. Bioinformatics analysis plays an important part of processing the information embedded in large-scale expression profiling studies and for laying the foundation for biological interpretation. A basic, yet challenging task in the analysis of microarray gene expression data is the identification of changes in gene expression that are associated with particular biological conditions. Careful statistical design and analysis are essential to improve the efficiency and reliability of microarray experiments throughout the data acquisition and analysis process. One of the most popular platforms for microarray analysis is Bioconductor, an open source and open development software project based on the R programming language. This paper describes specific procedures for conducting quality assessment, visualization and preprocessing of Affymetrix Gene Chip and also details the different bioconductor packages used to analyze affymetrix microarray data and describe the analysis and outcome of each plots. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microarray%20analysis" title="microarray analysis">microarray analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=R%20language" title=" R language"> R language</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=affymetrix%20visualization" title=" affymetrix visualization"> affymetrix visualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioconductor" title=" bioconductor "> bioconductor </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20198/microarray-data-visualization-and-preprocessing-using-r-and-bioconductor" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20198.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">480</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">83</span> Valorization of Marine Seaweed Biomass: Furanic Platform Chemicals and Beyond</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sanjay%20Kumar">Sanjay Kumar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saikat%20Dutta"> Saikat Dutta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Devendra%20S.%20Rawat"> Devendra S. However, strain identification in terms of fuel productivity and over all economics of fuel generation remains a debatable challenge. Utilization of marine biomass, especially the ones important in the Indian subcontinent, in forming furanic fuels and specialty chemicals would likely to be a better value-addition pathway. Seaweed species e.g. Ulva, Sarconema, and Gracilaria species have been found more productive than land-based biomass sources due to their higher growth rate. Additionally, non-recalcitrant nature of marine biomass unlike lignocellulosics has attracted much attention in recent years towards producing bioethanol. Here we report the production of renewable, biomass-derived platform molecules such as furfural and 5-(chloromethyl) furfural (CMF) from a seaweed species which are abundant marine biomass. These products have high potential for synthetic upgradation into various classes of value-added compounds such as fuels, fuel-additives, and monomers for polymers, solvents, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seaweeds" title="seaweeds">seaweeds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ulva" title=" Ulva"> Ulva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CMF" title=" CMF"> CMF</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=furan" title=" furan"> furan</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57159/valorization-of-marine-seaweed-biomass-furanic-platform-chemicals-and-beyond" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57159.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">454</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">82</span> Synthesis and Thermoluminescence Study of Nanocrystalline Radiation Dosimeter CaSO₄:Ce/Sm/Dy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anant%20Pandey">Anant Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kanika%20Sharma"> Kanika Sharma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vibha%20Chopra"> Vibha Chopra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shaila%20Bahl"> Shaila Bahl</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pratik%20Kumar"> Pratik Kumar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20P.%20Lochab"> S. TL properties are investigated by chiefly changing the dopant element and also by varying the concentration of the dopant elements (from 0.05 mol % to 0.5 mol %) so as to establish the optimized dopant concentration for each of the activators. The method of salt preparation used is the typical chemical co-precipitation method and the technique used for characterization of the prepared samples is the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) technique. Further, the phosphors are irradiated with gamma radiation from Co-60 (1.25 MeV) source (dose range- 30 Gy to 500 Gy). The optimized concentration (vis-a-vis TL peak intensity) of activator for CaSO₄:Ce is found to be 0.2 mol %, for CaSO₄:Sm it is 0.1 mol % and for CaSO₄:Dy it is 0.2 mol %. Further, the primary study of the TL response curves for all the three phosphors confirms linearity in the studied dose range (i.e., 30 Gy to 500 Gy). Finally, CaSO₄:Dy was also studied for its energy dependence property which plays an important role in defining the utility of a phosphor for dosimetric applications. The range of doses used for the energy dependence study was from 30 Gy to 500 Gy from Cs-137 (0.662 MeV). The nano-phosphors showed potential to be used as radiation dosimeter in the studied range of gamma radiation and thus must be studied for a wider range of doses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gamma%20radiation" title="gamma radiation">gamma radiation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanocrystalline" title=" nanocrystalline"> nanocrystalline</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radiation%20dosimetry" title=" radiation dosimetry"> radiation dosimetry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermoluminescence" title=" thermoluminescence"> thermoluminescence</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89842/synthesis-and-thermoluminescence-study-of-nanocrystalline-radiation-dosimeter-caso4cesmdy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89842.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">175</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">81</span> Communication Barriers in Disaster Risk Management</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pooja%20Pandey">Pooja Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The role of communication plays an integral part in the management of any disaster, whether natural or human-induced, both require effective and strategic delivery of information. The way any information is conveyed carries the most weight while dealing with the disaster. Hence, integrating communication strategies in disaster risk management (DRM) are extensively acknowledged however, these integration and planning are missing from the practical books. Researchers are continuously exploring integrated DRM and have established substantial vents between research and implementation of the strategies (gaps between science and policy). For this reason, this paper reviews the communication barriers that obstruct effective management of the disaster. Communication between first responders (government agencies, police, medical services) and the public (people directly affected by the disaster) is most critical and lacks proper delivery during a disaster. And these challenges can only be resolved if the foundation of the problem is properly dealt with, which is resolving the issues within the organizations. Through this study, it was found that it is necessary to build the communication gap between the organizations themselves as most of the hindrances occur during the mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery phase of the disaster. The study is concluded with the main aim to review the communication barriers within and at the organizational, technological, and social levels that impact effective DRM. In the end, some suggestions are made to strengthen the knowledge for future improvement in communication between the responders and their organizations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=communication" title="communication">communication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organization" title=" organization"> organization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=barriers" title=" barriers"> barriers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=first%20responders" title=" first responders"> first responders</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disaster%20risk%20management" title=" disaster risk management"> disaster risk management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147007/communication-barriers-in-disaster-risk-management" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147007.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">300</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">80</span> Computational Study of Blood Flow Analysis for Coronary Artery Disease</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Radhe%20Tado">Radhe Tado</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ashish%20B.%20Deoghare"> Ashish B. These parameters are used to identify the mechanical factors responsible for the plaque progression and/or rupture in left coronary arteries (LCA) in coronary arteries. The initial step for CFD simulations was the construction of a geometrical model of the LCA. Patient specific artery model is constructed using computed tomography (CT) scan data with the help of MIMICS Research 19.0. For CFD analysis ANSYS FLUENT-14.5 is used.Hemodynamic parameters were quantified and flow patterns were visualized both in the absence and presence of coronary plaques. The wall pressure continuously decreased towards distal segments and showed pressure drops in stenotic segments. Areas of high WSS and high flow velocities were found adjacent to plaques deposition. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=angiography" title="angiography">angiography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20dynamics%20%28CFD%29" title=" computational fluid dynamics (CFD)"> computational fluid dynamics (CFD)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time-average%20wall%20shear%20stress%20%28TAWSS%29" title=" time-average wall shear stress (TAWSS)"> time-average wall shear stress (TAWSS)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wall%20pressure" title=" wall pressure"> wall pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wall%20shear%20stress%20%28WSS%29" title=" wall shear stress (WSS)"> wall shear stress (WSS)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78979/computational-study-of-blood-flow-analysis-for-coronary-artery-disease" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78979.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">183</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">79</span> Inflammatory Cytokine (Interleukin-8): A Diagnostic Marker in Leukemia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sandeep%20Pandey">Sandeep Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nimra%20Habib"> Nimra Habib</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ranjana%20Singh"> Ranjana Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abbas%20Ali%20Mahdi"> Abbas Ali Mahdi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Leukemia is a malignancy of blood that mainly affects children and young adults; while advancement in the early diagnosis will have the potential to improve the outcome of diseases. A wide range of disease including leukemia shows inflammatory signals in their pathogenesis. In a pilot study conducted in our laboratory, 52 people were screened, of which 26 had leukemia and 26 were free from any kind of malignancy. We performed the estimation of the inflammatory cytokine Interleukin-8 and it was found significantly raised in all the leukemia patients concerning healthy volunteers who participated in the study. Flow cytometry had been performed for the confirmation of leukemia and further genomic, and proteomic, analyses of the sample revealed that IL-8 levels showed a positive correlation in patients with leukemia. The results had shown constitutive secretion of interleukin-8 by leukemia cells. So, our finding demonstrated that IL-8 is considered to have a role in the pathogenesis of leukemia, and quantification of IL-8 levels in leukemia conditions might be more useful and feasible in the clinical setting for the prediction of drug responses where it may represent a putative target for innovative diagnostic toward effective therapeutic approaches. However, further research explorations in this area are needed that include a greater number of patients with all different forms of leukemia, and estimating their IL-8 levels may hold the key for the additional predictive values on the recurrence of leukemia and its prognosis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T-ALL" title="T-ALL">T-ALL</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IL-8" title=" IL-8"> IL-8</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leukemia%20pathogenesis" title=" leukemia pathogenesis"> leukemia pathogenesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cancer%20therapeutics" title=" cancer therapeutics"> cancer therapeutics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172772/inflammatory-cytokine-interleukin-8-a-diagnostic-marker-in-leukemia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172772.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">72</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">78</span> Comparison of Analgesic Efficacy of Ropivacaine and Levobupivacaine in Labour Analgesia by Dural Puncture Epidural Technique – A Prospective Double-blinded Randomized Trial</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J.%20Punj">J. The final product was characterized and confirmed by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Further, the thermoluminescence (TL) properties of the nanophosphor were studied by irradiating it with 1.25 MeV of gamma radiation and 65 MeV of carbon (C6+) ion beam. For gamma rays, two prominent TL peaks were observed with a low temperature peak at around 1070C and a high temperature peak at around 1570C. Furthermore, the nanophosphor maintained a linear TL response for the entire range of studied doses i.e. 10 Gy to 2000 Gy for both the temperature peaks. Moreover, when the nanophosphor was irradiated with 65 MeV of C6+ ion beam the shape and structure of the glow curves remained spectacularly similar and the nanophosphor displayed a linear TL response for the full range of studied fluences i.e. 5*1010 ions/cm2 to 1 *1012 ions/ cm2. Finally, various tests like reproducibility test and batch homogeneity were also carried out to define the final product. Thus, co-precipitation method followed by combustion technique was successful in effectively producing dosimetric grade CaF2:Tm for dosimetry of gamma as well as carbon (C6+) beam. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gamma%20radiation" title="gamma radiation">gamma radiation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ion%20beam" title=" ion beam"> ion beam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanocrystalline" title=" nanocrystalline"> nanocrystalline</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radiation%20dosimetry" title=" radiation dosimetry"> radiation dosimetry</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91069/investigating-nanocrystalline-caf2tm-for-carbon-beam-and-gamma-radiation-dosimetry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91069.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">184</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">76</span> Fluid Catalytic Cracking: Zeolite Catalyzed Chemical Industry Processes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mithil%20Pandey">Mithil Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ragunathan%20Bala%20Subramanian"> Ragunathan Bala Subramanian</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> One of the major conversion technologies in the oil refinery industry is Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) which produces the majority of the world’s gasoline. Some useful products are generated from the vacuum gas oil, heavy gas oil and residue feedstocks by the FCC unit in an oil refinery. Moreover, Zeolite catalysts (zeo-catalysts) have found widespread applications and have proved to be substantial and paradigmatic in oil refining and petrochemical processes, such as FCC because of their porous features. Several famous zeo-catalysts have been fabricated and applied in industrial processes as milestones in history, and have brought on huge changes in petrochemicals. So far, more than twenty types of zeolites have been industrially applied, and their versatile porous architectures with their essential features have contributed to affect the catalytic efficiency. This poster depicts the evolution of pore models in zeolite catalysts which are accompanied by an increase in environmental and demands. The crucial roles of modulating pore models are outlined for zeo-catalysts for the enhancement of their catalytic performances in various industrial processes. The development of industrial processes for the FCC process, aromatic conversions and olefin production, makes it obvious that the pore architecture plays a very important role in zeo-catalysis processes. By looking at the different necessities of industrial processes, rational construction of the pore model is critically essential. Besides, the pore structure of the zeolite would have a substantial and direct effect on the utilization efficiency of the zeo-catalyst. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catalysts" title="catalysts">catalysts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluid%20catalytic%20cracking" title=" fluid catalytic cracking"> fluid catalytic cracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=industrial%20processes" title=" industrial processes"> industrial processes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zeolite" title=" zeolite"> zeolite</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63403/fluid-catalytic-cracking-zeolite-catalyzed-chemical-industry-processes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63403.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">354</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">75</span> Direct Compression Formulation of Poorly Compressible Drugs to Minimize the Tablet Defects</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abhishek%20Pandey">Abhishek Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Capping and lamination are the most common tablet defects with poorly compressible drugs the common example of that Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen. Generally both these drugs are compressed by wet granulation method which is very time consuming process Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen is widely used as prescription & non-prescription medicine. Ibuprofen mainly used in the treatment of mild to moderate pain related to headache, migraine, postoperative condition and in the management of spondylitis, osteoarthritis Acetaminophen used as an analgesic and antipyretic drug. Ibuprofen having high tendency of sticking to punches of tablet punching machine while Acetaminophen is not ordinarily compressible to tablet formulation because Acetaminophen crystals are very hard and brittle in nature and fracture very easily when compressed producing capping and laminating tablet defects therefore wet granulation method is used to make them compressible. The aim of study was to prepare Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen tablets by direct compression technique and their evaluation. In this Investigation tablets were prepared by using directly compressible grade excipients. Dibasic calcium phosphate, lactose anhydrous (DCL21), microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel PH 101). In the proposed scheme, Laguerre polynomials are used together with an operational matrix and collocation method to obtain approximate solutions of the coupled system, so that our proposed model is converted into a system of algebraic equations which can be solved employing the Newton method. The solution profiles of the coupled system are presented graphically for different particular cases. The salient feature of the present article is finding the stability analysis of the proposed method and also the demonstration of the lower variation of solute concentrations with respect to the column length in the fractional-order system compared to the integer-order system. To show the higher efficiency, reliability, and accuracy of the proposed scheme, a comparison between the numerical results of Burger’s coupled system and its existing analytical result is reported. There are high compatibility and consistency between the approximate solution and its exact solution to a higher order of accuracy. The exhibition of error analysis for each case through tables and graphs confirms the super-linearly convergence rate of the proposed method. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fractional%20coupled%20PDE" title="fractional coupled PDE">fractional coupled PDE</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stability%20and%20convergence%20analysis" title=" stability and convergence analysis"> stability and convergence analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diffusion%20equation" title=" diffusion equation"> diffusion equation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laguerre%20polynomials" title=" Laguerre polynomials"> Laguerre polynomials</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20method" title=" spectral method"> spectral method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125320/a-new-approach-for-solving-fractional-coupled-pdes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125320.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">145</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">73</span> Preparation of Amla (Phyllanthus emblica) Powder Using Spray Drying Technique</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shubham%20Mandliya">Shubham Mandliya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pooja%20Pandey"> Pooja Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20N.%20Mishra"> H. Amla is very high in vitamin C content. Spray drying of fruit juices represents another alternative way to improve the physicochemical stability and increase their shelf life. Samples of amla powder were produced using the spray drying method to investigate the effect of inlet temperatures and maltodextrin levels. The spray dryer model used was a laboratory scale dryer and samples were run at different temperatures and concentrations. The response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the spray-drying process for the development of amla powder. The resultant powders were then analyzed for vitamin C, moisture, solubility and dispersibility. The spray dried amla powder contains higher amounts of vitamin C when compared to commercial fruit juice powders. SEM analysis revealed that lower maltodextrin levels and higher inlet air temperatures resulted in smaller but smoother particles. At lower temperature, vitamin C content is high as compared to higher temperature. Spray drying is an effective as well as an economic method which can be commercially used for making powder rather than by tray or solar drying as more fraction is retained with less cost. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amla%20powder" title="Amla powder">Amla powder</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physiochemical%20properties" title=" physiochemical properties"> physiochemical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=response%20surface%20methodology" title=" response surface methodology"> response surface methodology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spray%20drying" title=" spray drying"> spray drying</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100795/preparation-of-amla-phyllanthus-emblica-powder-using-spray-drying-technique" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100795.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">244</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">72</span> Iodine-Doped Carbon Dots as a Catalyst for Water Remediation Application</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anurag%20Kumar%20Pandey">Anurag Kumar Pandey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tapan%20Kumar%20Nath"> Tapan Kumar Nath</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Santanu%20Dhara"> Santanu Dhara</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Polluted water by industrial effluents or dyes has become a major global concern, particularly in developing countries. Such environmental contaminants constitute a serious threat to biodiversity, ecosystems, and human health worldwide; thus, their treatment is critical. The usage of nanoparticles has been discovered to be a potential water treatment method with high efficiency, cheap manufacturing costs, and green synthesis. Carbon dots have attracted the interest of researchers due to their unique properties, such as high water solubility, ease of production, great electron-donating ability, and low toxicity. In this context, we synthesized iodine-doped clove buds-derived carbon dots (I-CCDs) for the Fenton-like degradation of environmental contaminants in water (such as methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine-B (Rh-B) dye). The formation of I-CCDs has been confirmed using various spectroscopy techniques. I-CCDs have demonstrated remarkable optical, cytocompatibility, and antibacterial capabilities. The C-dots that were synthesized were found to be an effective catalyst for the reduction of MB and Rh-B utilizing NaBH4 as a reducing agent. UV-visible spectroscopy was used to construct a detailed pathway for dye reduction step by step. As-prepared I-CCDs have the potential to be a promising solution for wastewater purification and treatment systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=iodine-doped%20carbon%20dots" title="iodine-doped carbon dots">iodine-doped carbon dots</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wastewater%20treatment%20and%20purification" title=" wastewater treatment and purification"> wastewater treatment and purification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20friendly" title=" environmental friendly"> environmental friendly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibacterial" title=" antibacterial"> antibacterial</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179292/iodine-doped-carbon-dots-as-a-catalyst-for-water-remediation-application" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179292.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">82</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">71</span> Exaptive Urbanism: Evolutionary Biology and the Regeneration of Mumbai’s Dhobighat</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Piyush%20Bajpai">Piyush Bajpai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sneha%20Pandey"> Sneha Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Mumbai’s Dhobighat, 150 year old largest open laundry in the world, is the true live-work place and only source of income for some of Mumbai’s highest density ‘urban poor’ residents. The regeneration of Dhobighat, due to its ultra prime location and complex socio-political culture has been a complex issue. This once flourishing urban industrial core has been degrading for the past several decades mainly due to the decline of the open laundry business, the site’s over burdened infrastructure and conflicting socio-political and economic forces. The phenomena of ‘exaptation’ or ‘co-option’ has been observed by evolutionary biologists as a process responsible for producing highly tenacious and resilient offsprings within a species. The reddish egret uses its wings to cast shadow in shallow waters to attract small fish and hunt them. An unrelated feature used opportunistically to produce a very favorable result. How can this idea of co-option be applied to resolve the complex issue of Dhobighat’s regeneration? Our paper proposes a new methodology/approach for the regeneration of Dhobighat through the lens of evolutionary biology. Forces and systems (social, political, economic, cultural and ecological) that seem conflicting or unrelated by nature are opportunistically transformed into symbiotic and complimentary relationships that produce an inclusive, resilient and holistic solution for the regeneration of Dhobighat. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20regeneration" title="urban regeneration">urban regeneration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exaptation" title=" exaptation"> exaptation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resilience" title=" resilience"> resilience</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dhobighat" title=" Dhobighat"> Dhobighat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mumbai" title=" Mumbai"> Mumbai</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10760/exaptive-urbanism-evolutionary-biology-and-the-regeneration-of-mumbais-dhobighat" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10760.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">296</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">70</span> Numerical Homogenization of Nacre</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Arunachalam">M. Under applied loads the tablets slide over the adjacent tablets, thus generating inelastic deformation and toughness on macroscopic scale. A two dimensional finite element based homogenization methodology is adopted for obtaining the effective material properties of Nacre using a representative volume element (RVE) at finite deformations. In this work, the material behaviour for tablet and interface are assumed to be Isotropic elastic and Isotropic elastic-perfectly plastic with strain softening respectively. Numerical experiments such as uniaxial tension test along X, Y directions and simple shear test are performed on the RVE with uniform displacement and periodic constraints applied at the RVE boundaries to obtain the anisotropic homogenized response and maximum local stresses within each constituents of Nacre. Homogenized material model is then tested for macroscopic structure under three point bending condition and the results obtained are comparable with the results obtained for detailed microstructure based structure, thus homogenization provides a bridge between macroscopic scale and microscopic scale and homogenized material properties obtained from microstructural (RVE) analysis could be used in large scale structural analysis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element" title="finite element">finite element</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=homogenization" title=" homogenization"> homogenization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inelastic%20deformation" title=" inelastic deformation"> inelastic deformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=staggered%20arrangement" title=" staggered arrangement"> staggered arrangement</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37390/numerical-homogenization-of-nacre" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37390.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">318</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">69</span> Role of Amount of Glass Fibers in PAEK Composites to Control Mechanical and Tribological Properties</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jitendra%20Narayan%20Panda">Jitendra Narayan Panda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jayashree%20Bijwe"> Jayashree Bijwe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raj%20K.%20%20Pandey"> Raj K. In this work, influence of amount (30 and 40 %) of short glass fibers (GF) in two composites containing PAEK (60 and 50 %) and synthetic graphite (10 %) on mechanical and tribological behaviour was studied. The composites were developed by injection molding and evaluated in adhesive wear mode (pin on disc configuration) against mild steel disc. The load and speed were selected as variable input parameters while coefficient of friction (µ), specific wear rate (K0) and PVlimit (pressure × velocity) values were selected as output parameters for performance evaluation. Although higher amount of GF lead to better mechanical properties, tribological properties were not in tune to this. Overall, µ and K0 for both composites were in the range 0.04-0.08 and 3-8x 10-16 m3/Nm respectively and decreased with increase in applied PV values till failure was observed. PVlimit was indicated by 112 and 100 MPa m/s. Such high PVlimit values are not reported for any polymer composites running in dry conditions in the literature. The mechanical properties of the C40 composite (40 % GF) proved superior to C30 composite (30 % GF). However, all tribological properties of C40 were inferior to C30. It exhibited higher µ, higher K0 and slightly lower PVlimit value. The higher % fibers proved detrimental for tribo-performance and worn surface analysis by SEM & EDAX was done on the discs & pins to understand wear mechanisms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PAEK%20composites" title="PAEK composites">PAEK composites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pin-on-disk" title=" pin-on-disk"> pin-on-disk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PV%20limit" title=" PV limit"> PV limit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=friction" title=" friction"> friction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81829/role-of-amount-of-glass-fibers-in-paek-composites-to-control-mechanical-and-tribological-properties" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81829.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">201</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">68</span> A Critical Review of the Success Model of Indian Pharmaceutical Industry</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ekta%20Pandey">Ekta Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Indian Pharmaceutical Industry is ranked third largest by volume and fourteenth by value. The aim is to understand the impact of anti-trust laws, intellectual property rights, industry competition acts and regulations are quite crucial in determining effective economic policy and have overall lasting effects on international trade and ties. The proposed paper examines the position of Indian domestic firms relative to multinational pharmaceutical firms tries to throw some light on the growth curve of Indian pharmaceutical sector. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20pharmaceutical%20ingredients" title="active pharmaceutical ingredients">active pharmaceutical ingredients</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=competition%20act" title=" competition act"> competition act</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pharmaceutical%20industry" title=" pharmaceutical industry"> pharmaceutical industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TRIPS" title=" TRIPS"> TRIPS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76944/a-critical-review-of-the-success-model-of-indian-pharmaceutical-industry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76944.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">438</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">67</span> Role of Preoperative and Postoperative Endovaginal Ultrasound and 24-Hour Pad Test in Evaluation of Efficacy of Various Treatment Modalities for Stress Urinary Incontinence</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J.%20B.%20Sharma">J. Methods: It is a prospective study conducted over 40 women of SUI by endovaginal ultrasound on rest and Valsalva preoperatively and six months postoperatively for levator hiatus, pubovisceral thickness, urethral length, and bladder neck position. A 24-hour pad test was also performed on all women at the same time for grading of SUI. Treatment given was medical in 4 (10%), Burch colposuspension in 18 (45%), and tension-free obturator tape in 18 (45%). Results: Mean age, parity, and body mass index in the study were 41.60 years, 2.73, and 24.2 kg/m², respectively. All 40 (100%) patients had SUI, with the mean duration of symptoms being 4.04 years. On the 24-hour pad test, mild SUI was in 4 (10%), moderate SUI in 33 (82.5%), and severe SUI in 3 (7.5%), with mean preoperative 24-hour pad test being 36.69 gm which significantly reduced to 9.79 gm postoperatively (p 0.001). There was a significant change in levator hiatus and pubovisceral thickness with the treatment of SUI. Overall urethral length increased, but there was a significant decrease in urethral length on Valsalva after the treatment (0.40 versus 0.28 cm, p 0.04) and a significant reduction in bladder neck descent after Valsalva after treatment (0.41 cm versus 0.27 cm, p 0.001). Conclusion: Endovaginal ultrasound and 24-hour pad test are useful diagnostic modalities for SUI diagnosis and to see the impact of treatment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress%20urinary%20incontinence" title="stress urinary incontinence">stress urinary incontinence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=endovaginal%20ultrasound" title=" endovaginal ultrasound"> endovaginal ultrasound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=24-hours%20pad%20test" title=" 24-hours pad test"> 24-hours pad test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pubovisceral%20muscle%20thickness" title=" pubovisceral muscle thickness"> pubovisceral muscle thickness</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162013/role-of-preoperative-and-postoperative-endovaginal-ultrasound-and-24-hour-pad-test-in-evaluation-of-efficacy-of-various-treatment-modalities-for-stress-urinary-incontinence" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162013.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">93</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">66</span> Local Residents' Perceptions of Economic Impacts of Urban Riverfront Development: Case of Sabarmati Riverfront Development</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Smriti%20Mishra">Smriti Mishra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jaydip%20Barman"> Jaydip Barman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shashi%20Kant%20Pandey"> Shashi Kant Pandey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Many scholars suggest that waterfront development projects have an all round impact on cities. However, their research stops short of considering the perception of local residents, of what they think about the impact of such developments and the kind of waterfront development which they would prefer to support. Therefore, this paper attempts to address this imbalance in the literature by analysing a survey of residents' perceptions of such developments. The paper discusses the issue in the Indian context by considering Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project (SRFD) of Ahmadabad. It gives an overview of the project components of the SRFD; discusses its development issues and concerns associated with it. It further examines the structural relationship between socio-economic and demographic attributes of local residents and their attitudes and perception towards the economic impact of such developments. The study suggests that the economic component that riverfront development will attract more investment in their community and that riverfront development will increase real estate tax revenue emerged as strong components. While the economic component of substantial premiums to developers, land owners and local government and the other of cost of developing riverfront facilities are too much of a burden on government and public sector agencies appear to be weaker economic components of the perceived economic impacts of urban riverfront development. This paper also gives an overview of the urban waterfront development in the global scenario. It highlights the need to consider residents perception in the development of such projects. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
