synthesis from carbon dioxide has been developing in Korea Institute of Energy Research. The scheme of direct synthesis of DMC from CO₂ and Methanol is 'CO₂ + 2MeOH ↔ DMC + H₂O'. Among them, reactants are CO₂ and MeOH, product is DMC, and byproduct is H₂O (water). According to Le Chatelier’s principle, removing byproduct (water) can shift the reaction equilibrium to the right (DMC production). The main purpose of this process is removing water during the reaction. For efficient in situ water removal (dehydration) and DMC separation, zeolite 4A membranes with very small pore diameter and hydrophilicity were introduced. In this study, pervaporation performances of binary and ternary DMC / methanol / water mixtures were evaluated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dimehtyl%20carbonate" title="dimehtyl carbonate">dimehtyl carbonate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=methanol" title=" methanol"> methanol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water" title=" water"> water</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zeolite%20membrane" title=" zeolite membrane"> zeolite membrane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pervaporation" title=" pervaporation"> pervaporation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71361/pervaporation-of-dimethyl-carbonate-methanol-water-mixtures-using-zeolite-membranes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71361.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">362</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> The Effect of Pulsator on Washing Performance in a Front-Loading Washer</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eung%20Ryeol%20Seo">Eung Ryeol Seo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hee%20Tae%20Lim"> Hee Tae Lim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eunsuk%20Bang"> Eunsuk Bang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soon%20Cheol%20Kweon"> Soon Cheol Kweon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jeoung-Kyo%20Jeoung"> Jeoung-Kyo Jeoung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ji-Hoon%20Choic"> Ji-Hoon Choic</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The object of this study is to investigate the effect of pulsator on washing performance quantitatively for front-loading washer. The front-loading washer with pulsator shows washing performance improvement of 18% and the particle-based body simulation technique has been applied to figure out the relation between washing performance and mechanical forces exerted on textile during washing process. As a result, the mechanical forces, such as collision force and strain force, acting on the textile have turned out to be about twice numerically. The washing performance improvement due to additional pulsate system has been utilized for customers to save 50% of washing time. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=front-loading%20washer" title="front-loading washer">front-loading washer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20force" title=" mechanical force"> mechanical force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fabric%20movement" title=" fabric movement"> fabric movement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pulsator" title=" pulsator"> pulsator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time-saving" title=" time-saving"> time-saving</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88328/the-effect-of-pulsator-on-washing-performance-in-a-front-loading-washer" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88328.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">261</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Study of Deflection at Junction in the Precast on Cyclic Loading</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jongho%20Park">Jongho Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ui-Cheol%20Shin"> Ui-Cheol Shin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jinwoong%20Choi"> Jinwoong Choi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sungnam%20Hong"> Sungnam Hong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sun-Kyu%20Park"> Sun-Kyu Park</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> While the numerous structures built the industrialization are aging, the effort for the maintenance is concentrated in many countries. However, the traffic jam, environmental damage, and enormous maintenance cost, and etc become a problem. So, in order to solve this, the modular bridge has been studied. This bridge is the structure which utilizes and assembles the standard precast member. Through this, the substitution of the existing bridge and advantage of the easy maintenance will be achieved. However, the reliability in the long-term behavior is insufficient due to the junction part between modular precast members. Therefore, in this research, the cyclic load loading experiment was performed on the junction and deflection was analyzed by long-term service in modular slab connection. The deflection of modular slab with junction was mostly generated when initial and final test. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modular%20bridge" title="modular bridge">modular bridge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deflection" title=" deflection"> deflection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyclic%20loading" title=" cyclic loading"> cyclic loading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=junction" title=" junction"> junction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28201/study-of-deflection-at-junction-in-the-precast-on-cyclic-loading" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28201.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">511</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">38</span> Assessment of Vermiculite Concrete Containing Bio-Polymer Aggregate</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aliakbar%20Sayadi">Aliakbar Sayadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20R.%20Neitzert"> Thomas R. Vermiculite aggregate was replaced by poly-lactic acid in percentages of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 80%. Mechanical and thermal properties of concrete were investigated. Test results indicated that the inclusion of poly-lactic acid decreased the PH value of concrete and all the poly-lactic acid particles were dissolved due to the formation of sodium lactide and lactide oligomers when subjected to the high alkaline environment of concrete. In addition, an increase in thermal conductivity value of concrete was observed as the ratio of poly-lactic acid increased. Moreover, a set of equations was proposed to estimate the water-cement ratio, cement content and water absorption ratio of concrete. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=poly-lactic%20acid%20%28PLA%29" title="poly-lactic acid (PLA)">poly-lactic acid (PLA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vermiculite%20concrete" title=" vermiculite concrete"> vermiculite concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eco-friendly" title=" eco-friendly"> eco-friendly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20properties" title=" mechanical properties"> mechanical properties</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55427/assessment-of-vermiculite-concrete-containing-bio-polymer-aggregate" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55427.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">404</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Enhancement of Mechanical and Biological Properties in Wollastonite Bioceramics by MgSiO3 Addition</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jae%20Hong%20Kim">Jae Hong Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sang%20Cheol%20Um"> Sang Cheol Um</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jong%20Kook%20Lee"> Jong Kook Lee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Strong and biocompatible wollastonite (CaSiO3) was fabricated by pressureless sintering at temperature range of 1250~ 1300 ℃ and phase transition of to β-wollastonite with an addition of MgSiO3. Starting pure α-wollastonite powder were prepared by solid state reaction, and MgSiO3 powder was added to α-wollastonite powder to induce the phase transition α to β-wollastonite over 1250℃. Sintered wollastonite samples at 1250℃ with 5 and 10 wt% MgSiO3 were α+β phase and β phase respectively, and showed higher densification rate than that of α or β-wollastonite, which are almost the same as the theoretical density. Hardness and Young’s modulus of sintered wollastonite were dependent on the apparent density and the amount of β-wollastonite. Young’s modulus (78GPa) of β-wollastonite added 10 wt% MgSiO3 was almost double time of sintered α-wollastonite. From the in-vitro test, biphasic (α+β) wollastonite with 5wt% MgSiO3 addition had good bioactivity in simulated body fluid solution. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%CE%B2-wollastonite" title="β-wollastonite">β-wollastonite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20density" title=" high density"> high density</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MgSiO3" title=" MgSiO3"> MgSiO3</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phase%20transition" title=" phase transition "> phase transition </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25438/enhancement-of-mechanical-and-biological-properties-in-wollastonite-bioceramics-by-mgsio3-addition" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25438.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">581</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> Natural Frequency Analysis of Small-Scale Arch Structure by Shaking Table Test</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gee-Cheol%20Kim">Gee-Cheol Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joo-Won%20Kang"> Joo-Won Kang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Structural characteristics of spatial structure are different from that of rahmen structures and it has many factors that are unpredictable experientially. The recycling of STS produced in Korea for construction applications is limited due to its poor hydraulic properties. On the other hand, STS has high carbonation reactivity to CO2 as it contains gamma-C2S content. This material is ideal for mineral carbonation which is one of the techniques proposed for carbon emission reduction. The objective of this study is to investigate the feasibility of developing a zero-cement STS binder activated by carbonation as alternative cementitious material. The quantitative analyses for CO2 uptake of STS powder and STS blended cement were investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD). In addition, the compressive strength and microstructure of STS pastes after CO2 curing were evaluated. The membrane moves the sample radially to form the sample spots of different compounds as concentric rings, thus the MNP-Apts on the membrane enabled specific recognition of the target cells through a color ring generation by MNP-promoted colorimetric reaction of TMB (3,3&#39;,5,5&#39;-tetramethylbenzidine) and H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>. We detail how traditional methods often overlook future uncertainties, resulting in tracking biases when reliance is placed solely on immediate data without adjustments for predictive accuracy. Our investigation led to the development of the Predictive Tracking Project Control (PTPC) framework, which incorporates network simulation and Bayesian control models to adapt more effectively to project dynamics. The PTPC introduces controlled disturbances to better identify and separate tracking biases from useful predictive signals. We will demonstrate the efficacy of the PTPC with examples, highlighting its potential to enhance real-time project monitoring and decision-making, marking a significant shift towards more accurate project management practices. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=predictive%20tracking" title="predictive tracking">predictive tracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=project%20control" title=" project control"> project control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=signal-noise%20separation" title=" signal-noise separation"> signal-noise separation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bayesian%20inference" title=" Bayesian inference"> Bayesian inference</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192188/navigating-uncertainties-in-project-control-a-predictive-tracking-framework" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192188.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">18</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> A Study on Automotive Attack Database and Data Flow Diagram for Concretization of HEAVENS: A Car Security Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Se-Han%20Lee">Se-Han Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kwang-Woo%20Go"> Kwang-Woo Go</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gwang-Hyun%20Ahn"> Gwang-Hyun Ahn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hee-Sung%20Park"> Hee-Sung Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheol-Kyu%20Han"> Cheol-Kyu Han</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jun-Bo%20Shim"> Jun-Bo Shim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Geun-Chul%20Kang"> Geun-Chul Kang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyun-Jung%20Lee"> Hyun-Jung Lee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In recent years, with the advent of smart cars and the expansion of the market, the announcement of 'Adventures in Automotive Networks and Control Units' at the DEFCON21 conference in 2013 revealed that cars are not safe from hacking. As a result, the HEAVENS model considering not only the functional safety of the vehicle but also the security has been suggested. However, the HEAVENS model only presents a simple process, and there are no detailed procedures and activities for each process, making it difficult to apply it to the actual vehicle security vulnerability check. In this paper, we propose an automated attack database that systematically summarizes attack vectors, attack types, and vulnerable vehicle models to prepare for various car hacking attacks, and data flow diagrams that can detect various vulnerabilities and suggest a way to materialize the HEAVENS model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=automotive%20security" title="automotive security">automotive security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HEAVENS" title=" HEAVENS"> HEAVENS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=car%20hacking" title=" car hacking"> car hacking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=security%20model" title=" security model"> security model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20security" title=" information security"> information security</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84442/a-study-on-automotive-attack-database-and-data-flow-diagram-for-concretization-of-heavens-a-car-security-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84442.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">362</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> The Energy Efficient Water Reuse by Combination of Nano-Filtration and Capacitive Deionization Processes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Youngmin%20Kim">Youngmin Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jae-Hwan%20Ahn"> Jae-Hwan Ahn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seog-Ku%20Kim"> Seog-Ku Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hye-Cheol%20Oh"> Hye-Cheol Oh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bokjin%20Lee"> Bokjin Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hee-Jun%20Kang"> Hee-Jun Kang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The high energy consuming processes such as advanced oxidation and reverse osmosis are used as a reuse process. This study aims at developing an energy efficient reuse process by combination of nanofiltration (NF) and capacitive deionization processes (CDI) processes. Lab scale experiments were conducted by using effluents from a wastewater treatment plant located at Koyang city in Korea. Commercial NF membrane (NE4040-70, Toray Ltd.) and CDI module (E40, Siontech INC.) were tested in series. The pollutant removal efficiencies were evaluated on the basis of Korean water quality criteria for water reuse. In addition, the energy consumptions were also calculated. As a result, the hybrid process showed lower energy consumption than conventional reverse osmosis process even though its effluent did meet the Korean standard. Consequently, this study suggests that the hybrid process is feasible for the energy efficient water reuse. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capacitive%20deionization" title="capacitive deionization">capacitive deionization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20efficient%20process" title=" energy efficient process"> energy efficient process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanofiltration" title=" nanofiltration"> nanofiltration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20reuse" title=" water reuse"> water reuse</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87033/the-energy-efficient-water-reuse-by-combination-of-nano-filtration-and-capacitive-deionization-processes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87033.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">182</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> Inhibitory Effects of Ambrosia trifida L. on the Development of Root Hairs and Protein Patterns of Radicles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ji-Hyon%20Kil">Ji-Hyon Kil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kew-Cheol%20Shim"> Kew-Cheol Shim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyoung-Ae%20Park"> Kyoung-Ae Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyoungho%20Kim"> Kyoungho Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ambrosia trifida L. is designated as invasive alien species by the Act on the Conservation and Use of Biodiversity by the Ministry of Environment, Korea. The study was mainly dedicated to illustrate the effect of application of electromagnetic field (EMF) on the rate of cementation. The magnetic flux was placed parallel to the iron rod and different magnetic field strength was studied. The results showed that without EMF, the rate of mass transfer was correlated by the equation: Sh= 1.36 Re0. 098 Sc0.33. The application of EMF enhanced the time required to reach high percentage copper cementation by 50%. The rate of mass transfer was correlated by the equation: Sh= 2.29 Re0. 95 Sc0.33, with applying EMF. This work illustrates that the enhancement of copper recovery in presence of EMF is due to the induced motion of Fe+n in the solution which is limited in the range of rod rotation speed of 300~900 rpm. The calculation of power consumption of EMF showed that although the application of EMF partially reduced the cementation time, the reduction of power consumption due to utilization of magnetic field is comparable to the increase in power consumed by introducing magnetic field of 2462 A T/m. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copper%20cementation" title="copper cementation">copper cementation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20field" title=" electromagnetic field"> electromagnetic field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copper%20ions" title=" copper ions"> copper ions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=iron%20cylinder" title=" iron cylinder"> iron cylinder</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17981/parallel-magnetic-field-effect-on-copper-cementation-onto-rotating-iron-rod" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17981.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">489</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> OLED Encapsulation Process Using Low Melting Point Alloy and Epoxy Mixture by Instantaneous Discharge</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyung%20Min%20Park">Kyung Min Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheol%20Hee%20Moon"> Cheol Hee Moon</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study we are to develop a sealing process using a mixture of a LMPA and an epoxy for the atmospheric OLED sealing process as a substitute for the thin-film process. Subjects were 152 secondary school science teachers (male 70 and female 82; middle school 50 and high school 102), who are teaching in 42 schools of 8 provinces. On the survey, science teachers were asked to answer on 5-point Lickert scale (from 1 to 5) how they thought of using practical works on purposes with domains of science objectives in school. They had positive views about using practical works for improving scientific inquiry process skills, science-related attitudes, and perceptions about STS literacy, and acquiring scientific knowledge. They would have the most willingness of using practical works for ‘Scientific Inquiry’ among domains of science objectives in school. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=secondary%20school" title="secondary school">secondary school</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=science%20teacher" title=" science teacher"> science teacher</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=practical%20work" title=" practical work"> practical work</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scientific%20inquiry" title=" scientific inquiry"> scientific inquiry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scientific%20knowledge" title=" scientific knowledge"> scientific knowledge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scientific%20attitude" title=" scientific attitude"> scientific attitude</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=STS" title=" STS"> STS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10717/secondary-science-teachers-views-about-purposes-of-practical-works-in-school-science" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10717.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">490</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">24</span> Beyond Classic Program Evaluation and Review Technique: A Generalized Model for Subjective Distributions with Flexible Variance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Byung%20Cheol%20Kim">Byung Cheol Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is widely used for project management, but it struggles with subjective distributions, particularly due to its assumptions of constant variance and light tails. To overcome these limitations, we propose the Generalized PERT (G-PERT) model, which enhances PERT by incorporating variability in three-point subjective estimates. Our methodology extends the original PERT model to cover the full range of unimodal beta distributions, enabling the model to handle thick-tailed distributions and offering formulas for computing mean and variance. This maintains the simplicity of PERT while providing a more accurate depiction of uncertainty. Our empirical analysis demonstrates that the G-PERT model significantly improves performance, particularly when dealing with heavy-tail subjective distributions. In comparative assessments with alternative models such as triangular and lognormal distributions, G-PERT shows superior accuracy and flexibility. These results suggest that G-PERT offers a more robust solution for project estimation while still retaining the user-friendliness of the classic PERT approach. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PERT" title="PERT">PERT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subjective%20distribution" title=" subjective distribution"> subjective distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=project%20management" title=" project management"> project management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexible%20variance" title=" flexible variance"> flexible variance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192135/beyond-classic-program-evaluation-and-review-technique-a-generalized-model-for-subjective-distributions-with-flexible-variance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192135.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">18</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Fault Detection of Pipeline in Water Distribution Network System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shin%20Je%20Lee">Shin Je Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Go%20Bong%20Choi"> Go Bong Choi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jeong%20Cheol%20Seo"> Jeong Cheol Seo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jong%20Min%20Lee"> Jong Min Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gibaek%20Lee"> Gibaek Lee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Water pipe network is installed underground and once equipped; it is difficult to recognize the state of pipes when the leak or burst happens. In this work, we develop online fault detection system of water pipe network using data of pipes such as flow rate or pressure. The transient model describing water flow in pipelines is presented and simulated using Matlab. The fault situations such as the leak or burst can be also simulated and flow rate or pressure data when the fault happens are collected. Recently, encapsulation technology such as Thin Film Encapsulation (TFE) has been developed for OLED, but it is not perfect to prevent moisture permeation on the side. In this study, we propose OLED encapsulation method using Low melting Point Alloy (LMPA). The LMPA line was designed in square box shape on the outer edge of the device and was formed by screen printing method. To determine if LMPA has an effect on OLED, we fabricated solution processed OLEDs with a square-shaped LMPA line and evaluate the I-V-L characteristics of the OLEDs. Also, the resistance characteristic of the LMPA line was observed by repeatedly bending the LMPA line. In order to solve this problem, self-healing concrete based on mineral admixture has become a major issue. Self-healing materials are those which have the ability of autonomously repairing some damages or small cracks in concrete structures. Concrete has an inherent healing potential, called natural healing, which can take place in ordinary concrete elements but its power is limited and is not predictable. The main mechanism of self-healing in cracked concrete is the continued hydration of unreacted binder and the crystallization of calcium carbonate. Some mineral admixtures have been found to promote the self-healing of cementitious materials. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of mineral admixture on the self-healing performances of high strength concrete. The potential capability of self-healing of cementitious materials was evaluated using isothermal conduction calorimeter. The self-healing efficiencies were studied by means of water flow tests on cracked concrete specimens. The results show a different healing behaviour depending on presence of the crystalline admixture. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mineral%20admixture" title="mineral admixture">mineral admixture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-healing" title=" self-healing"> self-healing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20flow%20test" title=" water flow test"> water flow test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crystallization" title=" crystallization"> crystallization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75654/effect-of-mineral-admixture-on-self-healing-performance-in-concrete" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75654.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">367</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> Suitability Evaluation of CNW as Scaffold for Osteoblast</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hoo%20Cheol%20Lee">Hoo Cheol Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dae%20Seung%20Kim"> Dae Seung Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sang%20Myung%20Jung"> Sang Myung Jung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gwang%20Heum%20Yoon"> Gwang Heum Yoon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hwa%20Sung%20Shin"> Hwa Sung Shin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Loss of bone tissue can occur due to a bone tissue disease and aging or fracture. Renewable formation of bone is mainly made by its differentiation and metabolism. For this reason, osteoblasts have been studied for regeneration of bone tissue. So, tissue engineering has attracted attention as a recovery means. In tissue engineering, a particularly important factor is a scaffold that supports cell growth. For osteoblast scaffold, we used the cellulose nanowhisker (CNW) extracted from marine organism. CNW is one of an abundant material obtained from a number of plants and animals. CNW is polymer consisting of monomer cellulose and this composition offers biodegradability and biocompatibility to CNW. Mechanical strength of CNW is superior to the existing natural polymers. In addition, substances of marine origin have a low risk of secondary infection by bacteria and pathogen in contrast with those of land-derived. For evaluating its suitability as an osteoblast scaffold, we fabricate CNW film for osteoblast culture and performed the MTT assay and ALP assay to confirm its cytotoxicity and effect on differentiation. Taking together these results, we assessed CNW is a potential candidate of a material for bone tissue regeneration. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bone%20regeneration" title="bone regeneration">bone regeneration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cellulose%20nanowhisker" title=" cellulose nanowhisker"> cellulose nanowhisker</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marine%20derived%20material" title=" marine derived material"> marine derived material</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=osteoblast" title=" osteoblast"> osteoblast</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7802/suitability-evaluation-of-cnw-as-scaffold-for-osteoblast" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7802.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">347</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">17</span> Self-Assembled Nano Aggregates Based On Polyaspartamide Graft Copolymers for pH-Controlled Release of Doxorubicin</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Van%20Tran%20Thi%20Thuy">Van Tran Thi Thuy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheol%20Won%20Lim"> Cheol Won Lim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dukjoon%20Kim"> Dukjoon Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A series of biodegradable copolymers based on polyaspartamide (PASPAM) were synthesized by grafting hydrophilic O-(2-aminoethyl)-O'-methylpoly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG), hydrophobic cholic acid (CA), and pH-sensitive hydrazine (Hyd) segments on a PASPAM backbone. The hydrazine group was effectively cleaved to release doxorubicin (DOX) conjugated on PASPAM in an acidic environment. The chemical structure of the polymer and the degree of substitution of each graft segment were analyzed using FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The size of the MPEG/Hyd/CA-g-PASPAM copolymer self-aggregates was examined by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The mean diameter of the self - aggregates increased from 125 to 200 nm at pH 7.4, as the degree of substitution of CA increased from 10 to 20 %. The release kinetics of DOX was strongly affected by the pH of the releasing medium. While less than 30% of the DOX-loaded was released in about 30 h at pH 7.4, more than 60% was released at pH 5.0 within the same time. The viability tests of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and human embryonic kidney cells (293T) show the potential application of MPEG/Hyd/CA-g-PASPAM copolymer self-aggregates in the controlled intracellular delivery for cancer treatments. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pH-sensitive" title="pH-sensitive">pH-sensitive</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drug%20delivery" title=" drug delivery"> drug delivery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyaspartamide" title=" polyaspartamide"> polyaspartamide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-assembly" title=" self-assembly"> self-assembly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nano-aggregates" title=" nano-aggregates"> nano-aggregates</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19167/self-assembled-nano-aggregates-based-on-polyaspartamide-graft-copolymers-for-ph-controlled-release-of-doxorubicin" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19167.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">358</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16</span> Study of Self-Assembled Photocatalyst by Metal-Terpyridine Interactions in Polymer Network</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong-Cheol%20Jeong">Dong-Cheol Jeong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jookyung%20Lee"> Jookyung Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu%20Hyeon%20Ro"> Yu Hyeon Ro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Changsik%20Song"> Changsik Song</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The design and synthesis of photo-active polymeric systems are important in regard to solar energy harvesting and utilization. In this study, we synthesized photo-active polymer, thin films, and polymer gel via iterative self-assembly using reversible metal-terpyridine (M-tpy) interactions. The photocurrent generated in the polymeric thin films with Zn(II) was much higher than those of other films. Apparent diffusion rate constant (kapp) was measured for the electron hopping process via potential-step chronoamperometry. As a result, the kapp for the polymeric thin films with Zn(II) was almost two times larger than those with other metal ions. We found that the anodic photocurrents increased with the inclusion of the multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) layer. Inclusion of MWNTs can provide efficient electron transfer pathways. In addition, polymer gel based on interactions between terpyridine and metal ions was shown the photocatalytic activity. Interestingly, in the Mg-terpyridine gel, the reaction rate of benzylamine to imine photo-oxidative coupling was faster than Fe-terpyridine gel because the Mg-terpyridine gel has two steps electron transfer pathway but Fe-terpyridine gel has three steps electron transfer pathway. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=terpyridine" title="terpyridine">terpyridine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photocatalyst" title=" photocatalyst"> photocatalyst</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-assebly" title=" self-assebly"> self-assebly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metal-ligand" title=" metal-ligand"> metal-ligand</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50618/study-of-self-assembled-photocatalyst-by-metal-terpyridine-interactions-in-polymer-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50618.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">308</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15</span> Stock Market Prediction Using Convolutional Neural Network That Learns from a Graph</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mo-Se%20Lee">Mo-Se Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheol-Hwi%20Ahn"> Cheol-Hwi Ahn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kee-Young%20Kwahk"> Kee-Young Kwahk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyunchul%20Ahn"> Hyunchul Ahn</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Over the past decade, deep learning has been in spotlight among various machine learning algorithms. In particular, CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), which is known as effective solution for recognizing and classifying images, has been popularly applied to classification and prediction problems in various fields. In this study, we try to apply CNN to stock market prediction, one of the most challenging tasks in the machine learning research. In specific, we propose to apply CNN as the binary classifier that predicts stock market direction (up or down) by using a graph as its input. That is, our proposal is to build a machine learning algorithm that mimics a person who looks at the graph and predicts whether the trend will go up or down. Our proposed model consists of four steps. In the first step, it divides the dataset into 5 days, 10 days, 15 days, and 20 days. And then, it creates graphs for each interval in step 2. In the next step, CNN classifiers are trained using the graphs generated in the previous step. In step 4, it optimizes the hyper parameters of the trained model by using the validation dataset. To validate our model, we will apply it to the prediction of KOSPI200 for 1,986 days in eight years (from 2009 to 2016). The experimental dataset will include 14 technical indicators such as CCI, Momentum, ROC and daily closing price of KOSPI200 of Korean stock market. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convolutional%20neural%20network" title="convolutional neural network">convolutional neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title=" deep learning"> deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Korean%20stock%20market" title=" Korean stock market"> Korean stock market</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stock%20market%20prediction" title=" stock market prediction"> stock market prediction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80318/stock-market-prediction-using-convolutional-neural-network-that-learns-from-a-graph" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80318.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">425</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> Mixed Matrix Membranes Based on [M₂(DOBDC)] (M = Mg, Co, Ni) and Polydimethylsiloxane for CO₂/N₂ Separation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyunuk%20Kim">Hyunuk Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yang%20No%20Yun"> Yang No Yun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Sohail"> Muhammad Sohail</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jong-Ho%20Moon"> Jong-Ho Moon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Young%20Cheol%20Park"> Young Cheol Park</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which are emerging absorbents assembled from metal ions and organic ligands, have attracted attention for their permanent porosity and design of tunable pore size. In this work, we synthesized [M₂(DOBDC)(DMF)₂] (M = Mg, Co, Ni) and determined their single-crystal structures by X-ray crystallography. The removal of coordinated guest molecules generates Lewis acidic sites and showed high CO₂ adsorption affinity. Both CO₂ adsorption capacity and surface area are much higher than reported values in literature. To fabricate MMMs, microcrystalline [M₂ (DOBDC)(DMF)₂] was synthesized by microwave reaction and dispersed in PDMS solution. The MMMs with a various amount of [M₂ (DOBDC)(DMF) ₂] in PDMS were fabricated by a solution casting method. [M₂ (DOBDC)(DMF)₂]@PDMS membrane showed higher CO2 permeability and CO₂/N₂ selectivity than those of PDMS. Therefore, we believe that MMMs combining polymer and MOFs provide new materials for CO₂ separation technology. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metal-organic%20frameworks" title="metal-organic frameworks">metal-organic frameworks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed%20matrix%20membrane" title=" mixed matrix membrane"> mixed matrix membrane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CO2%2FN2%20separation" title=" CO2/N2 separation"> CO2/N2 separation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polydimethylsiloxane%20%28PDMS%29" title=" polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)"> polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72483/mixed-matrix-membranes-based-on-m2dobdc-m-mg-co-ni-and-polydimethylsiloxane-for-co2n2-separation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72483.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">206</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13</span> Antioxidant Effects of C-Phycocyanin on Oxidized Astrocyte in Brain Injury Using 2D and 3D Neural Nanofiber Tissue Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seung%20Ju%20Yeon">Seung Ju Yeon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seul%20Ki%20Min"> Seul Ki Min</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jun%20Sang%20%20Park"> Jun Sang Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yeo%20Seon%20Kwon"> Yeo Seon Kwon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hoo%20Cheol%20Lee"> Hoo Cheol Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyun%20Jung%20Shim"> Hyun Jung Shim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Il-Doo%20Kim"> Il-Doo Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ja%20Kyeong%20Lee"> Ja Kyeong Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hwa%20Sung%20Shin"> Hwa Sung Shin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In brain injury, depleting oxidative stress is the most effective way to reduce the brain infarct size. C-phycocyanin (C-Pc) is a well-known antioxidant protein that has neuroprotective effects obtained from green microalgae. Astrocyte is glial cell that supports the nerve cell such as neuron, which account for a large portion of the brain. In brain injury, such as ischemia and reperfusion, astrocyte has an important rule that overcomes the oxidative stress and protect from brain reactive oxygen species (ROS) injury. However little is known about how C-Pc regulates the anti-oxidants effects of astrocyte. In this study, when the C-Pc was treated in oxidized astrocyte, we confirmed that inflammatory factors Interleukin-6 and Interleukin-3 were increased and antioxidants enzyme, Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase was upregulated, and neurotrophic factors, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) was alleviated. Also, it was confirmed to reduce infarct size of the brain in ischemia and reperfusion because C-Pc has anti-oxidant effects in middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) animal model. These results show that C-Pc can help astrocytes lead neuroprotective activities in the oxidative stressed environment of the brain. In summary, the C-PC protects astrocytes from oxidative stress and has anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, neurotrophic effects under ischemic situations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=c-phycocyanin" title="c-phycocyanin">c-phycocyanin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=astrocyte" title=" astrocyte"> astrocyte</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reactive%20oxygen%20species" title=" reactive oxygen species"> reactive oxygen species</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ischemia%20and%20reperfusion" title=" ischemia and reperfusion"> ischemia and reperfusion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neuroprotective%20effect" title=" neuroprotective effect"> neuroprotective effect</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50872/antioxidant-effects-of-c-phycocyanin-on-oxidized-astrocyte-in-brain-injury-using-2d-and-3d-neural-nanofiber-tissue-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50872.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">320</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Surface Modified Quantum Dots for Nanophotonics, Stereolithography and Hybrid Systems for Biomedical Studies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Redouane%20Krini">Redouane Krini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lutz%20Nuhn"> Lutz Nuhn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hicham%20El%20Mard%20Cheol%20Woo%20Ha"> Hicham El Mard Cheol Woo Ha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yoondeok%20Han"> Yoondeok Han</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kwang-Sup%20Lee"> Kwang-Sup Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong-Yol%20Yang"> Dong-Yol Yang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jinsoo%20Joo"> Jinsoo Joo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rudolf%20Zentel"> Rudolf Zentel</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> To use Quantum Dots (QDs) in the two photon initiated polymerization technique (TPIP) for 3D patternings, QDs were modified on the surface with photosensitive end groups which are able to undergo a photopolymerization. We were able to fabricate fluorescent 3D lattice structures using photopatternable QDs by TPIP for photonic devices such as photonic crystals and metamaterials. The QDs in different diameter have different emission colors and through mixing of RGB QDs white light fluorescent from the polymeric structures has been created. Metamaterials are capable for unique interaction with the electrical and magnetic components of the electromagnetic radiation and for manipulating light it is crucial to have a negative refractive index. In combination with QDs via TPIP technique polymeric structures can be designed with properties which cannot be found in nature. This makes these artificial materials gaining a huge importance for real-life applications in photonic and optoelectronic. Understanding of interactions between nanoparticles and biological systems is of a huge interest in the biomedical research field. We developed a synthetic strategy of polymer functionalized nanoparticles for biomedical studies to obtain hybrid systems of QDs and copolymers with a strong binding network in an inner shell and which can be modified in the end through their poly(ethylene glycol) functionalized outer shell. These hybrid systems can be used as models for investigation of cell penetration and drug delivery by using measurements combination between CryoTEM and fluorescence studies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomedical%20study%20models" title="biomedical study models">biomedical study models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lithography" title=" lithography"> lithography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photo%20induced%20polymerization" title=" photo induced polymerization"> photo induced polymerization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum%20dots" title=" quantum dots"> quantum dots</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28367/surface-modified-quantum-dots-for-nanophotonics-stereolithography-and-hybrid-systems-for-biomedical-studies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28367.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">526</span> </span> </div> </div> <ul class="pagination"> <li class="page-item disabled"><span class="page-link">&lsaquo;</span></li> <li class="page-item active"><span class="page-link">1</span></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hee%20Cheol%20Kim&amp;page=2">2</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hee%20Cheol%20Kim&amp;page=2" rel="next">&rsaquo;</a></li> </ul> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
