Bates</b> (posted on 25-Feb-2008)<p>In this 1968-72? movie, a man (Gig Young) returns to the childhood home of his young bride (Carol Linley) to visit. The inhabitants are very rural, crude and superstitious. One in particular stands out (Oliver Reed) as the ringleader of a rough/goofy gang including his matching girl friend. He lives with his aunt in an old lighthouse, who has always told him the "old Mill" and the land it sits on are his inheretance (because she would never expect the only other survivor to come home because of the "Wakely Curse"; her parents died tragicly.) The "gang" goes ga ga over the classy blonde and jeolous over "Mr. New York" (and his flashy car)and a battle between the urban new and the rural crude insues, in between the mysterious, haunting scenes at the "old Mill". If this looks like a "made for T.V" movie, it's very well done, with it's haunting, jazzy background music and artfully done camara work. Filmed in a British studio, it still manages to look like some little isolated Eastern U.S. island location. Though to me, in the rough characters, they have pretty much captured south Louisiana boys. <p> <hr width=15% align=left><p><table><tr><td><img src="/rarrow.gif"></td><td>Have you seen this film?
